I've been eating here with my family since I was much younger. I always get the cheese enchilada dinner with refried beans. They're great people. Went there for lunch since they have some really good specials. It's more of a TexMex restaurant for me but it's really good. I went with the Footlong Burrito(fajita) and it comes with Rice and Beans for $8.95. You can add nacho cheese on top for an extra $1. They also have some really good salsas that are not too spicy. read more

Not going to be wordy here. The infamous fried avocado was good, but the price $3-6 too steep. The al a carte taco on the other hand... fabulous price... they don't skimp on the meat. FINALLY FOUND ANOTHER PLACE IN TEXAS THAT KNOWS HOW TO SERVE AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD!!! This place is fantastic The service is quick, friendly and attentive. The chips and salsa are some of the best I've ever had. My boyfriend and I split the Footlong Burrito and it was perfect. Huge and I could barely finish it but it was delicious. Also, they have the best Horchata that I have found in Houston. Tastes just like it does in California. This is a nice little gem in South Houston. Worth coming and giving it a try and falling in love with it like we just did! It's a small place with kind of tight parking but OH MAN. We will most definitely be back! Sadly every time I go the staff is very rude if you don't speak Spanish. I understand mistakes happen especially when making to go orders but today really topped it. I called in my order and the girl acted like she couldn't understand me at all. I switched to speaking Spanish thinking maybe it would help, but I didn't. I asked for chicken and got beef. I asked for guacamole no sour cream and they didn't give me either. The rice was hard like it had been left out to dry or it was yesterday rice. The red salsa to go with the chips smelled like it was off so I threw it away. The only upside was my daughters meal came out right and she enjoyed it. I honestly don't know why I tried to give this place another try. Thank you for solidifying my distrust that my meal will come out the way I order it wether it be in person or over the phone. read more

In the sea of Mexican restaurants along Edgebrook, this is one that truly stands out as an authentic Tex-Mex spot, not just another taqueria. I came in one day during lunch since I had a project in Pasadena and was able to have a nice meal that hit the spot, without breaking the bank. Their menu is an interesting fusion of mexican and cajun cooking with dishes such as shrimp amd crawfish stuffed avocado, blackened pork chops, and crawfish etouffee. I was craving Tex-Mex, so I ordered the beef fajita enchiladas to see how well they handled a basic tex mex dish. Turns out, it was really good and I finished the entire plate pretty easily. I usually don't eat Mexican rice, but theirs was pretty good. read more

Great local spot for a no frills meal. Food is cooked fresh and portions are sizeable. Their margaritas are strong though pricing isn't so clear. I think the fancy ones are $7 but they have some listed for $3.50, though I've never managed to find those. Their menu is extensive and so far I haven't gone wrong ordering. Plenty of parking now that the building next door was taken down, and the staff is super friendly. read more

I've been really excited to try this place after hearing about the stuffed avocado. Overall the food is pretty good and the prices are affordable. Service today was horrible!! Our server was in a horrible mood and so rude! We were waiting on my sister to arrive for a few minutes and not sure if that ticked her off. Even though we ordered drinks and an appetizer. She would completely ignore questions or assistance. We also noticed she would smile at other tables but never ours. Just had a bitch face the whole time. Excuse my French but when you take your parents out to celebrate a late Father's Day I'm very user at this. We got our food and no silverware!! The wrong beer. Empty drinks, no refill on chips but TONS of salsa left over. We literally had to ask passing by waitresses for assistance. Eventually without us complaining we got a new waitress that was 100 times better. Shrimp and crawfish ettouffe tasted old, I've had it there before and was highly disappointed this time. My sister got the fried avocado and no one at the table liked it. My parents loved the fajitas and my brother liked the flautas. Fajita nachos were good although they missed sides. Will not be going there again after this experience! read more

I was introduced to this family-run restaurant by one of my friends (who is also a Yelper), so I may be a bit bias. :-) First off, service was excellent. Not only was our waitress polite and attentive, but even the owner (who also takes an active role in the kitchen) came by to talk with us and ask about our meals. Anytime I visit a place where its evident that the owner still takes an active part in the kitchen duties, I'm impressed. Too many times "hired help" performs all the duties while the owners are absent or no longer involved in the "hands on" part of the restaurant. Anyhow I ordered the Carnitas de Michoacan: tender, juicy pieces of pork that are deep fried--but not battered. They were excellent, still juicy and flavorful on the inside with a slight crispness on the outside. The carnitas were served with rice, beans, corn tortillas, guacamole and fresh pico de gallo... A+ in my book of culinary favorites! The restaurant is also very family friendly, as two young children were in our party and the staff were very accommodating. I will definitely be trekking up to Houston again to try other items on their menu, as its surprisingly quite extensive (and unique: Tex-Mex + Cajun) for a small family restaurant! read more

Stopped to grab some Lunch with a coworker before heading back to the office from a work errand... Was shocked at the friendliness of the place. We were greeted and introduced to the owner who offered to help with food suggestions as it was out first time there. We asked about good seafood items on the menu. We tried the special, not on the menu, fried avocado stuffed with shrimp and crawfish. It was good; filling was delicious. After that we ordered some typical tacos: carnitas and fajita. Well to our surprise the owner sent us two complimentary seafood enchiladas. The enchilada was certainly delicious. So simple. It was smothered in a sort of creole gravy. Inside it's a nice restaurant with an upscale feel to it. I ordered a house salad for $9 to start and the Pasta Rosa entree for another $28. The salad arrived first with a generous amount of romaine lettuce with diced tomatoes, cucumber, shredded carrots and chopped eggs on top. With my chosen ranch dressing it was a good tasting salad. The Pasta Rosa dish had sliced Parmesan strips on top of penne with shrimp, crawfish and sausage for the protein with mushrooms and a tomato cream sauce. This meal initially tricked me. My first impression was that while there was plenty of protein the taste of the tomato cream sauce was lacking some flavor. I expected more. However as I kept eating and getting beyond the top layer of the food the flavor increased significantly. I think that the proteins caused the sauce in the lower half of the dish to create more punch. This dish got better and better and I changed my mind. It turned out to be a very good tasting and filling meal. Finally the table service was very good too. P.S. I also tried part of another appetizer which was the bar b q shrimp for $16. They were tasty. I like Rouxpour and would return. My only negative is that their prices are a little on the high side in my opinion.

I was still a bit skeptical when ordering, but I knew they wouldn't steer me wrong. This place is clean with a huge dining room. Service was great, and prices are not bad at all. We were seated immediately upon walking in on a Sunday, right before the lunch rush came. I am salivating as I'm writing this because the flavors of everything we ordered is still fresh on my mind!! Bottom line: just try it at least once! They know what they're doing here. It's no wonder this place is poppin!! Next time I'm back, I'll try to make another stop so I can get my own bag of crawfish. I played it safe this visit and got the Crawfish Etouffee, lol. I was lazy to peel them, so this fit the bill for me that day. We all liked what we ordered, but I was traumatized from my first experience with crawfish from a seafood boil I went to a few years back. Crawfish Cafe renewed my faith, and I am now a believer!!
