But I would skip the seafood clam spaghetti because it was just salty and lacking flavor. The chicken parm was underwhelming because it was thin and soggy but the accompanying pasta was delicious (I chose gluten free). I am extremely disappointed by how my friend and I were treated here on Labor Day. We arrived for a late lunch around 3:00 p.m. with my friend's service dog, which he requires because of a medical condition. The restaurant was nearly empty, yet the bartender whom I believe was named Joel refused to allow us to sit at a regular table in the back. He repeatedly insisted that we could sit only outside or at the bar. We calmly explained that this was a service dog and even showed documentation, but he continued to refuse us a table. His attitude was dismissive and made us feel unwelcome and humiliated, so we eventually left without eating. I have lived in San Francisco for 20 years and currently live in the Marina. I have never experienced anything like this. Refusing reasonable access to a person accompanied by a service dog is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about discrimination. The restaurant must educate its employees about service-animal access requirements and the respectful treatment of customers with disabilities. After this experience, I will not return, and I cannot recommend this restaurant to friends, visitors, or anyone who expects to be treated with dignity. read more

The pizza was also soggy, and when we raised it with the waiter, it was taken back and we were told that the chefs said it was meant to come out that way, slightly undercooked. I understand that Neapolitan-style pizza can be softer in the center, but this felt genuinely underbaked and wet rather than simply soft or chewy. The pear and gorgonzola salad was bland and lacked flavor. The arancini were okay, but nothing particularly memorable. Overall, the meal fell well short of expectations. For a neighborhood Italian restaurant in the Marina, I expected much better execution, especially on the pizza. To the pizza chefs: there seems to be a recurring theme in feedback that the pizzas can come out soggy. I'd encourage the team to take that seriously rather than dismissing it as simply "how it's meant to be." Soft, foldable Neapolitan-style pizza is one thing; soggy and underbaked is another. How have I never rated this place before?! aside from the long way occasionally definitely one of my favorite Italian spots. The drinks are really good. The lemon cellos are delicious especially! We always get a server named Morgan and she's very kind, smiling; we do really enjoy her company. I've been here so many times I've gotten many things on the menu. I say the best things were most likely the bean soup, really delicious, and the Formaggio. The meat dishes are really nice as well. You have the Ragu which is always a hit! Sat outside with my dog on a Tuesday night for dinner. There are heaters outside so it was quite comfortable. Very dog friendly, and service was amazing. Our waiter was so attentive all night, recommended dishes and brought my dog water. I got two glasses of the groth Sauvignon blanc. It paired really nicely with the mussels and spaghetti chitarra. The spaghetti was al dente and the lobster was so delicious. My friend got the rigatoni alla vodka with shrimp. Super creamy and fresh shrimp. Made a reservation for a Saturday at 7pm. The website said they are open for reservations on Saturday, but OpenTable said they don't do reservations for Fridays and Saturdays. Luckily, they did take reservations, so OpenTable just needs to be updated. We were sat outside and provided some blankets, as well as turning on the heaters above. Our hostess and server were very very nice and attentive. For how much the brussels sprouts were, the serving was huge! Our main course came out, and we could tell they waited for all of our food to be ready before bringing it to us. It was a game of Goldilocks. One person's food was cold, others were lukewarm, and others were super hot. The cold one was so cold we had to ask them to reheat it, which they were kind enough to do. The restaurant is well-sized, colorful, and fun, with Italian-inspired decor sprawled throughout, and ample indoor and outdoor seating. Service by all staff was friendly and efficient. My best friend and I got the same thing, the Linguine alle Vongole. There were lots of clams, the pasta was well-cooked, and for the portion and price, it was good. Have been here twice recently and the first time was a five-star for sure -- the standout dish was the gnocchi, which was so delightfully crispy at the top, gooey and cheesy sauce underneath, and perfectly chewy gnocchi. Really solid Italian spot!! I ordered the sea bass because I've been on a Whole Foods diet, it was incredibly flavorful and cooked to perfection. We arrived around 9 p.m., knowing that the restaurant closes at 10. The reception was very friendly, but unfortunately, the rest of the experience felt really rushed. Within a minute of sitting down, we were already being asked if we were ready to order. The food came out quickly, which was good, but the pasta was quite undercooked. What was most uncomfortable, though, was that while we were still eating, the check was dropped on our table without us asking for it. No one asked if we wanted dessert, another drink, or anything else. As we were barely finishing, they started clearing away plates, glasses, and everything from the table. And to top it off, they started switching the patio lights on and off, which made us feel even more pressured to leave. I completely understand the restaurant closes at 10 and that staff have closing duties, but we arrived a full hour before closing, not at the last minute. We stopped to have Saturday lunch after passing by their pretty outdoor patio (offered by shaded and full sun options) with the prettiest, brightly dinnerware that brought us back to the Mediterranean. We ordered based on recommendations by the server - Pear Gorgonzola salad, meatballs and cacio e pepe pasta. We loved the salad, all the ingredients worked really well together. Meatballs were also good and sizable. We didn't love the pasta - it was a bit dry so we will try a different item in the future. We also ordered a beer that never arrived and the server didn't notice so it was still on the bill but they corrected it upon informing them. I have been to Casaro Osteria several times before, always accompanied by my service dog, a 20-pound Cockapoo. On previous visits, when the weather permitted, I always chose to sit outside and never experienced any issues. Today, however, the situation was very different. Because the sun was extremely strong and there was not enough full shade outside, my friend and I asked to sit indoors. The tables in the front dining room were mostly occupied, and the available ones were directly next to the windows and exposed to the sun. We therefore asked if we could sit in the back dining area, where it was noticeably calmer and more comfortable. There were very few customers inside the restaurant at the time, and only one couple was seated in that area. The bartender, who appeared to be acting as the manager on duty, initially told us that we could not sit in the back area because of my dog. I explained that my dog is not a pet but a service dog, and I even offered to provide documentation. Despite this explanation, he repeated that dogs were not allowed in that area and instead offered us a small, coffee-table-style table directly beside the window and in the sun. We clearly explained that we did not want to sit there because of the direct sunlight. Unfortunately, the interaction felt very one-sided. Rather than listening to our needs and trying to understand why we were requesting another table, he continued telling us what he was willing to arrange without taking our concerns or preferences into consideration. I felt extremely uncomfortable and discriminated against because of my need to be accompanied by my service dog. This was honestly the first time I have ever experienced something like this. I could not understand why such a simple accommodation could not initially be made, especially when the restaurant was far from full and another couple was already sitting in the exact area we had requested. Eventually, he changed his position and told us that we could sit in the back area after all. Unfortunately, by that point, the experience had already made us feel so unwelcome that we no longer wanted to stay. What concerns me most is thinking about what might happen to someone who is less comfortable speaking up for themselves. Would they simply accept being placed somewhere they did not want to sit because they felt they had no other choice? I was particularly shocked to have this experience in the Pacific Heights neighborhood, especially considering that I have never encountered this type of problem elsewhere, including while traveling internationally with my service dog. I am grateful that my friend was with me and witnessed the entire interaction. Unfortunately, after several positive visits in the past, this experience has completely changed my impression of Casaro Osteria. The restaurant has not only lost me as a customer, but also several people I would otherwise have continued recommending it to. read more

We visited Casaro Osteria at an off time between lunch and dinner, which I think is the way to go! We got seated right away, but by the time we were wrapping up our meal around 5PM, the restaurant was packed. They had some outdoor seating in the front, but that was full, so we were seated indoors. The interior was nicely decorated with a wall of vintage Italian posters, a good-looking bar, and lots of plants. I also loved their colorful, floral tableware! For N/A drinks, they had both mocktails (which were really pricy) and wine, so I got a glass of N/A Sauvignon Blanc. This exceeded my expectations - so crisp and similar to the real thing! For food, my friend and I ordered the Parmigiana Pizza and Gnocchi Quattro Formaggi to share. Both items were good, but the Parmigiana Pizza was our favorite! The tomato sauce, eggplant, and shaved parmesan went so well together, and the burrata on top was so decadent. The only downside was the floppiness of the slices, which is always the case with Neapolitan-style Pizza. The Gnocchi Quattro Formaggi was super rich and filling. This dish was basically Mac & Cheese, but with Gnocchi. I'm glad we ordered it to share! My friends also enjoyed their food, including the Grilled Cauliflower and Mafaldine Ragu Napoletano. The Caesar Salad, although it sounded promising with the anchovies and hard boiled eggs, was not my favorite though... it just fell flat in terms of flavor. And although the menu said it was comprised of little-gem lettuce, the lettuce in the salad did not match the compact crunchy-yet-tender leaves that I picture in my mind when I think of little-gem. The Ziti Genovese Pasta took the cake. So delicious. The 6 hour slow cooked white onions and short ribs, along with a generous dusting of pecorino, were incredible. I was also a fan of the very firm (aldente) texture of the pasta, it really added to the dish. The Prosciutto Pizza was so good, and somehow the more I ate, the better it got. I recommended this spot to my friends to try for our girls night, however, the service was extremely inconsistent and unhelpful. We made a reservation for 10pm but the restaurant called us to inform us the kitchen closes at 10:30. The restaurant agreed to seat us for our reservation made. We called our Waymo to head to the restaurant around 9:30 but the restaurant called us again to let us know their kitchen actually closes at 10pm. After some back and forth, we let them know to cancel our reservation due to difficulties. The main entrees were halibut filet and homemade magaldine ragù napoletano. Both were very tasty and fresh.
