Terrific food and service! I hosted a birthday lunch of 8 people yesterday at Piccino Presidio. All attendees thoroughly enjoyed their meals off the regular menu (a very good assortment of appetizers, salads, pastas, pizzas, and fish), beverages (wine, beer, soft drinks, and mocktails),, and desserts. Karen was wonderful to work with in the planning stages confirming Piccino could accommodate a group our size (originallly 9) on the date required, the dietary restrictions (2 Pescaterians, 1 shellfish allergy), and offer outside dining. Piccino was easy to find off 101 near the Golden Gate Bridge (guests came from the East Bay, North Bay, and Peninsula). A short, lovely drive through the northern end of the Presidio (which I hadn't been to since it was decommisioned as a military base), with good parking available. The restaurant ambiance is very nice with a fully-stocked bar. The covered patio offered outside dining with heaters to keep off the chill. Ina is a wonderful server, easily and thoroughly answering all menu questions, serving orders quickly, and checking back with us to make sure we had everything we needed. Came here for brunch over the weekend, as my husband and I wanted to try something new outside of our regular rotation. We have been to Piccino only in Dogptach, and I hadn't even realized they opened a Presidio outpost. This location is quite large compared to their original location, and the atmosphere is a nice setting. It's in Presidio, but on the edge, close to the Marina. Eating here makes me feel like I'm out of San Francisco for a bit. We shared the Brentwood corn arancini, which was made with saffron and lemon aioli on the side, and quite delicious. I got the Piccino Cheeseburger, which had wagyu beef, provolone cheese, crispy prosciutto, arugula, brioche, and fries. It was a decent burger. I loved the crispy prosciutto, the beef, the cheese, and fries were the lovely thick kind. I think they were going for an Italian style burger, with the arugula and all. However, I just felt like it was missing the things I personally love in a burger, such as the tomato, onions (raw or grilled), and lettuce in large pieces. Although it was a decent burger, it just wasn't quite the burger I love at heart. My husband got the Mortadella Panuzzo, which was a think sandwich with mortadella, arugula, etc. on the inside, came with garlic fries. He enjoyed his sandwich too. What it came down to though was that it was quite an expensive meal. My burger was $28, and his sandwich was also $28. But this was the price of a nice setting, quite cozy, and not having a wait. No one kicking you out. Just a pleasant morning. Service was prompt, great. I would recommend this place if you're catching up with friends from out of town you hadn't seen in a while, as you can hang out here and really catch up, without feeling like there are people eyeing your table. read more

Stumbled across this great spot for a weekend lunch! We were walking around Palace of Fine Arts and just found this on the map-- so glad we did. It's located in a really quiet part of Presidio with a cute terrace and lovely hills. It seems like reservations are preferred, we got lucky to be sitted on Sunday at 11am (opening time) since there was only one table open-- shows how popular! Staff was super friendly. I think our server's name was Brandon? Everyone was really attentive and sweet to us. I typically don't care for sweet brunch so I was hesitant at first but I ended up LOVING our choices. We got a ragu with polenta, fennel salad, and a funghi pizza. The star of the show for me was the ragu polenta-- soooo rich in flavor! It was served with a runny egg on top which added a whole other level. Portions are pretty good size. Delicious pasta and pizza, beautiful interior, amazing service! THE FOOD: We ordered the heirloom tomato salad, corn tortellini, chiocciole, fico pizza and the fungi pizza. Everything was delicious. I especially loved the fungi pizza. So many mushrooms...and the sauce was so flavorful. The chiocciole was a lemon sauce based pasta. Light and refreshing - perfect for summer. I really liked the corn tortellini but I wish the serving size was larger. Unfortunately I feel that whenever I order tortellini at restaurants, the portions are quite small (under 10 pieces), so this wasn't a big surprise either. The dish itself was great though! At the end of the meal the waitress brought out a panna cotta on the house for us as we were celebrating a special occasion. Very much appreciated! THE SERVICE: The waiter and waitresses were all very attentive during our meal, coming by and checking on us at just right frequency. During the meal I accidentally dropped the ENTIRE pizza on the ground When I called over the waitress, we all shared a laugh when she saw the sad pizza on the ground. After that, she hurriedly put in another order to the kitchen and brand new pizza came out 5 minutes later. Super quick. No complaints with the service! AMBIANCE: We were sat in the outdoor patio which is absolutely beautiful, especially around sunset. Perfect for dates, special occasions, or larger gatherings. A bit of a challenge to find this restaurant if you use Google Maps - just fyi!! It takes you down by the YMCA. Don't use Maps. It's best to enter from Lombard, turn onto Chestnut and then make the left on Lyon and it's literally right past the gate at Lyon on the walking path. Tons of parking on Lyon around 5pm as well. The food and cocktails were delicious. A few quibbles: The corn and lemon arancini sounded phenomenal. They were completely overwhelmed by saffron. The corn and lemon should have been able to shine, but NOPE. It was an odd combo. Not BAD, per se. But not good either. The bucatini pomodoro was delicious but the pasta was severely overcooked. It was almost mush. Super disappointing at an Italian restaurant. And at the first seating?! But the flavors were great. We also had the Hemingway Daiquiris, an Old Fashioned, the Chip Stack, Focaccia, and for dessert the zeppole and the stone fruit crostata. Everything was fantastic. Solid place to have some pasta or pizza; just a short walk away from the Palace of Fine Arts. Located in the Presidio, it makes for a nice place to grab food if in the area. We got pizzas, and they were all filling. The assortment of flavors and pizzas were all solid. Dough was supple, easily carrying the assortment of toppings. It was solid pizza, but not earth shattering. Pastas were also ordered, and the feedback was positive. They were solid portions, but I wouldnt characterize them as big. We came for dinner and were able to be seated before our reservation time. The staff was nice and gave us time to review the menu, and took our order promptly as well. We ordered a little bit of everything, and shared pizzas as well. The bianca pizza was very cheesy, and the spicy oil was just a nice touch to the cheese. It is a thin crust pizza, but it is very filling. Everyone enjoyed their dishes, and while we were full we decided to also grab dessert. Charming restaurant tucked into The Presidio right by the Lombard Gate. I found it on Yelp (naturally) after my son finished his Open Water swim at Aquatic Park. Piccino is a loft-like restaurant in rough-hewn wood with one main interior space, large rooms surrounding the great room for private dining plus a rustic bar with plentiful seating. Outside, a lovely covered terrace with pergola. Service was a little slow but it fit the laid back Sunday vibe. I think only two people were handling all the patrons and yet they remained unflustered and smiling. They really enjoyed talking about the food and the plates' ingredients. Standout dishes were the wild mushroom pizza ($24), all produce from their farm in Healdsburg, and the incredible buttermilk panna cotta with honeycomb kiwi (a must order, $14). The acidic pop of summer tomatoes were the highlight of one tapas-sized plate, the beef and pork polpettes. The teeny polpettes, however, were precious at $18 for 5 marble-sized very miniature meatballs! Chicken sandwich looked slightly burnt but tasted great and the chicken, very juicy. Piccino is a wonderful spot to catch up with friends and have an expertly mixed craft cocktail and dinner. And, for company or family events, they can easily accommodate larger groups. It's a special location with an emphasis on creativity and hyper-local farm fresh produce. Pleasantly surprised to find this tasty and creative menu restaurant in the Presidio. We came here to visit the Presidio including the famous Yoda Fountain and Skywalker Ranch company store, and found a lunch reservation at this place. The menu is a little upscale for some, so probably not a great place for youngsters but the variety of items we tried were all fantastic. I definitely would come back. read more

Pizza is very strong flavored. Nice ambiance here. Service I think they seem a tad daft unfortunately but the food itself is nice and good for a brunch. Not a fan of the honey as it was dripping everywhere and the fig combo was a bit odd, but prosciutto on pizza is always reliable. The funghi pizza was a bit better, with very mushroom (obviously) notes. The trick is to switch between the two, with sweet and savory. Pizzas are about a personal size but I recommend doing family style. Tables next to us had a salad that looked good and a nice looking French toast. This is a neat spot tucked into the old Letterman complex. Very hip loft/industrial vibe. It's good for parties of all sizes. Service is laid back and metered. Always felt taken care of not oversold. The food was really good. They say everything is meant to be shared. That said, it's true, but small plates seem meant for two. We were all over the-menu. I feel like the small plates and pastas were the strongest. Scallop in Polenta, Meatball very good. Salad was a bit small to be shared. Homemade pasta was a star for me. Looking for an quiet spot to catch up with longtime friends? Consider coming for lunch on a Thursday at 11:30am. A very spacious footprint. I recall coming when it was a different restaurant. There's both indoor and outdoor dining available. They offer validated parking of $5.00. I couldn't find the parking garage so we parked in the neighborhood. The hostess said if you plugged in 1 Letterman it'll direct you to the garage. The four of us sat in the main section of the restaurant at a table tucked away in the corner. We decided on family style dining with exception of hubby who wanted a cheeseburger - wagyu beef. Served with steak fries. Plated nicely. We shared - * salsiccia pizza. Wow! Such a lovely spot, super accessible via the Presidio Go shuttle. I went here for brunch with a group of five, and luckily, we were able to get seated at the bar without a reservation. The staff were great with putting our group at one of the corners so we could all chat with each other, and making the bar counter layout work well for our party. Interior is modern, with a mix of bar seating and tables, with nice large windows for natural light contrasting with the more dimly lit interior. Great spot for conversation and catching up. There's also a patio if you want to find a more sunny spot. We got a bunch of dishes to share. The ginger scone was good, somewhat like a ginger cookie with jam. The banana muffin was alright, but the butter it came with really made it come together. The savory bread pudding was the star of meal, with the sweet and savory flavors coming together super well. Eggy, with a flavorful bechamel, with the bacon and cheddar mixed in as more muted flavors. The beet and pear salad was good, though I am partial to beets in general. Out of the two pizzas we got, I preferred the funghi more over the salsiccia. The pizzas are sized well for splitting between two people maybe with one side. Great spot for brunch, with the food overall being a hit and the atmosphere and staff being superb. Came to celebrate a friend's birthday and we had an amazing time. The service was phenomenal, the staff checked on us often to make sure we were doing okay. The seating was perfect for groups. The interior is large, and it's not too loud inside. The food was also delicious! We got: - beet and pear salad - pork and beef polpette - wild mushroom lasagna (I'm not a fan of mushrooms, but the sauce in this dish was 5/5) - agnolotti - bistecca per la tavola - potato and leek pizza - margherita pizza - there was one other dish we got, but I don't remember the name and it's not on the menu. Piccino Presidio is a beautiful spot tucked inside the park (an ideal setting for a date night or a relaxed group dinner). My spouse and I came here for a lovely evening out and were impressed with both the food and the atmosphere. We started with the shaved fennel salad, which was light and refreshing, but also had a surprising depth thanks to the saffron vinaigrette. The sweet pop of the pickled sultanas with the salty feta and briny olive chermoula was really well-balanced & definitely not your average salad. The pappardelle with short rib ragu was rich and deeply flavorful. The short rib was tender and hearty, and the pasta had the perfect chewy texture. A touch of fried rosemary added a nice aromatic crunch that tied the dish together beautifully. Our main was the Bistecca per la Tavola, served with spiced carrots, fingerling potatoes, and salsa verde. It was cooked just right (medium rare) and the spices on the steak were bold but not overwhelming. We were definitely stuffed by the end, but happily so. The space itself is modern, clean, inviting, and elegant enough for a special night but still casual and welcoming. Portions are generous, so it's great for sharing. The staff were friendly and attentive, checking in just the right amount throughout the meal. What really made the evening special was the location being in the Presidio, we were able to take a peaceful evening stroll right after dinner. Piccino Presidio is the second location of the popular Italian restaurant that started in Dogpatch in 2006. It is right in the midst of the Lucasfilm Presidio campus. Excellent service and friendly staff. I love the location and the option for outdoor seating in such a beautiful part of the Presidio. I ordered a fried chicken sandwich and wasn't impressed. It was generously sized and was accompanied by plenty of fries but both lacked crunch and texture expected from fried food. The chicken itself was moist, however could have used more seasoning. The slaw inside the sandwich was a nice touch. I hate leaving fries unfinished on my plate and I only do when they're undercooked. About a quarter of them needed a few minutes more in the deep fryer. My friend invited me to a weekday lunch here. I haven't been to the Presidio in years, likely when the Aloha Festival was still held here. We went to Piccino right after visiting the Balloon Museum, and it was such a cute, cozy spot! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming -- perfect for a relaxing meal. The wine was amazing, and the customer service was awesome. The food was simple, but in the best way -- everything was fresh, flavorful, and really well done. Prices were reasonable, especially for San Francisco and the neighborhood. It's tucked away and a little tricky to find at first, but totally worth it once you get there. I visited SF about two months ago, so I can't remember exactly what I ordered, but I do remember leaving really happy and satisfied. Such a relaxing, charming, and classy laid back ambiance. Parking was so easy in the garage next door with $5 restaurant validated ticket. The man at the ticket booth to the garage was super friendly and informative and once you park in the garage there's signs and stairs "Piccino". Reservations for outdoor shaded patio. Hostess welcomed us and sat us right away for Sunday brunch--had beautiful park views. Food options were fairly limited but we had the scramble, pea salad, arancini, and french toast. While the portion size of the French toast was a tiny slice it was still good. The scramble and salad were excellent. You can taste the freshness of the farm to table experience. First, don't put "Piccino" in the uber app or it will take you randomly into the campus. Put Lyon street and Chestnut street and walk through the gate. It's on your left. We arrived to a very unbothered hostess who ask "can I help you?" before even saying hello. We were seated and everyone else was nice and friendly. We sat in a back corner area and it was nice and spaced out with low lighting. Not too loud. We ordered drinks, some apps, and pasta. No stand out bites. Everything was good but not mind blowing. The food was good. I don't like giving one stars, but the service was so lacking to the point that I felt embarrassed. We entered through the parking garage and the restaurant patio is just outside the parking lot door. So upon arriving I asked a wait staff person who was staring into space, if my party had arrived. She seemed annoyed and said 'The hostess is over there' (pointing to the other end of the restaurant which must be the primary entrance for anyone who didn't park in the lot?). The obvious annoyance seemed unnecessary given that I smiled and asked nicely. I had to ask the wait staff to clear off empty drink glasses twice. The tables are not large and for a party of 6 people, space becomes an issue. We got two appetizers that were quite good, as were the cocktails. The appetizer plates and utensils were cleared and I was the only person at the table who ordered a salad. A large salad. This was brought out and placed in front of me. The waiter left before I could ask if the other five people at my table could get more appetizer plates and utensils, so we could, OBVIOUSLY, share said salad. I kept trying to get waitstaff's attention for the next 25 minutes so we could all enjoy a bit of the large salad. Completely ignored, despite lots of looks, a few waves and several 'excuse me's'. So I kept asking my party if they wanted some salad and everyone pointed out they didn't have any utensils, so it probably wasn't a great idea. So I was the only one eating. Then the main dishes appeared. My main dish appeared and I now had two dishes and no one else at my table even had utensils. At this point my party, a great group of people, are laughing and giggling that I am the only person at my table that will be eating tonight. We all took it in stride and were amused. Finally after 4 or 5 minutes, everyone else was gradually served. One at a time. Again I had to ask for the water carafe to be filled. The food was really good. The waitstaff experience, including a bartender I tried to ask to take our checks, just ooozed with unhidden annoyance. This review is a bit conflicting to write, however based on my experience its very unlikely id go back or recommend this place. The customer service is very inconsistent. Upon arrival the host was very rude about us not having reservations. While she was able to accommodate us, her immediate response to us was "you need to be out by 7", it was roughly 5 PM when we arrived and the place was empty. The food was subpar and nothing to rave about. Portions were very small. Each waitress/waiter was either rude or friendly. Overall a poor experience. I was looking for a place where to have a brunch without staying in line and where to walk after it. Therefore I thought about Piccino in Presidio. The restaurant has a parking garage reserved but you can park also along the street. They have a nice patio where we stayed. Food was mediocre: we ordered a pizza for sharing (it was ok), I ate the spring vegetable scramble with goat cheese and potatoes on side and it was good. My husband and my best friend shared the prosciutto gnocco fritto but they didn't really enjoyed (gnocco fritto was kind of harsh). I love the Piccino dog patch location so I was really excited to see they opened up a new spot in Presidio where Sessions used to be. Me and my boyfriend went on opening night and had a great experience. The service was super friendly and explained the menu thoroughly and called out the items unique to the Presidio location. My favorite dish was the Dungeness Crab Polenta (recommended by the server) - it was so flavorful and creamy and had a great amount of crab. I also liked the Garlic Leek Pizza, which was great with the addition of Calabrian chili oil in the side and sausage topping. We also ordered the chiocciole pasta which was a little too watery for my taste. But really enjoyed everything else. The atmosphere inside is very spacious with bar and outdoor patio seating. Overall really happy with this new addition to the Presidio restaurants. Will definitely be back! read more
