My boyfriend and I stayed at the lodge after getting a coupon on Crowd Cut. Otherwise I would probably have never heard of the place. The word I would use to describe the place is quaint. If you are looking for a "Lutsen Resort" this probably isn't your spot. But if you are looking for a comfortable place to stay that is near the lake, Lutsen, Cascade River State Park and Grand Marais this is your spot. We stayed in one of the smaller cabins, which was everything we needed - including a wood fireplace. We don't have kids but they do have swings, a playset, basketball hoop and group bonfire ring that I think kids would enjoy. Or adults - if you're like us ;) We ate at the restaurant on the property one night. It was pretty good. Mostly basic stuff. Good BLT. Decent beer and liquor selection. Overall, I would say this place has a cabin vibe that feels sincere to the North Shore. read more

I have now stayed at Cascade Lodge twice and enjoyed it very much both times. We stayed in the lodge once, and most recently in their smallest cabin, cabin 8. We found their prices comparable to others in the area. Their location is beautiful and they have a ton to do both on site and nearby. It was fun having the Restaurant right next door as they have a decent bar and had live music. Yes, as others have said, they do not have cell phone service, unless you have Verizon. However, you really shouldn't need phone service if you are up to enjoy a weekend away. In case of bad weather, they do have cable/dish and have games and books in their lodge. We do plan to be back! read more

The food at the restaurant is amazing! I couldn't eat my entire 1/2 pound burger, but it was fantastic. It's the best burger I've had in a long time. My husband really liked his meal too. I so wanted to give this place a good rating because we have been coming to the area for ages and at one time it was a family favorite. Love the historical lodge vibe and decor but I'm also there for food and beverages. After three strike outs this place is off our list for good. The last straw was two nights ago for happy hour and appetizers (last two times were for dinner with friends). We were not immediately seated and when we finally were we waited for at least five minutes before placing a drink order. There were only two other tables so the servers were not slammed. We waited and waited and waited. No sign of the server but we could hear them in the kitchen chatting it up. Finally, we had enough and went to the kitchen. Asked for our drinks and inquired about the food. A few minutes later the server comes out with the appetizers and NO drinks! She jokingly says 'oh, I guess I forgot your drinks!'. No apology given. Finally she brings them. We were not happy. The happy hour is a joke with $1.00 off drinks. The appetizers were sloppily prepared - the veggies included shriveled tomatoes. Yuck. We had to ask for our tab . When she comes back to run our card she points out where to press on the screen for her tip. I blame the management for the rudeness and poor training or lack there of and the food isn't that great. There are plenty of other places that will take your money without the grief. read more

$33.95 for a king cut prime is a little steep in this location if you have flawless execution. Sadly the execution wasn't flawless. They plated the prime withe the wrong sides. I asked for and end cut and didn't get one. They blamed the cook and apologized. I wouldn't likely come back. Too much $$$$ for what you get. They may be trying to soak the tourists on the holiday weekend but you need to have flawless execution then... on a side note they had a good one man band tonight. read more

We stopped here for dinner, and the menu prices were higher than those found on their website. The lettuce in the salad bar was turning brown, and they had limited items from which to choose. I had a sirloin steak that lacked seasoning. The side of broccoli was fresh and well cooked. Wow, terrible reservation policy and business practice. Due to an illness, hotel was contacted to change reservation dates and were given more than 24 hours notice. When contacting through Lutsen Mountain, they originally refused due to a 2 week cancellation policy which is completely unreasonable. When contacting directly they agreed to change the dates, then decided two hours later that they wouldn't honor the change. Cascade hosted our wedding, and it could not have gone better. Tom and Jelena (the owners) went above and beyond for us. I mentioned that a tree branch was hanging low, so we will just need to keep an eye out, next thing I know, I turn around and Tom has the entire tree trimmed up. They were so accommodating, finding ways to make whatever we wanted work. The food at the happy hour and dinner was amazing and the entire staff was so fun and nice - our family and friends are still talking about it! We were able to secure most of the resort for our guests, and all accommodations were amazing. The cabins were clean and beautiful. The bridal party stayed and got ready in the Lakeview Chalet, and it was perfect! So spacious and had everything we needed. I cannot recommend staying here for a weekend, hosting an event or even just grabbing a bite to eat here enough. You will NOT be disappointed!! Thank you so much, Cascade! I have only been to their restaurant, but I have always been satisfied with their food. Their service is a tad bit slow, so if you are in a rush this might not be the best place to go. Their club sandwich is very good with thick cut bacon and their fries are good as well. The dinner menu does seem a bit pricey so we have only gone there for lunch. read more

I am going to rate this 4 stars for mainly the great cabin that we stayed in, but the pub/restaurant i would not rate very well. The cabin we had was cute, cozy and the gentleman who checked us in was very polite and nice. We missed happy hour, our own fault, but we wanted to have a few cocktails in the pub part to start off our mini vaca. To sum it up the service was very slow as the waitresses were also the bartenders too. They aere NOT busy and qe onky krdered drinks. We were kind of talking quietly about how the service was bad and a lady came over drom another table to ask if we had a problem. At first i said no, and the she asked if service was ok. I felt like a moron but i said yes, the service was way slow and noticed when she was to be making our drinks she was talking to locals sitting at the bar. We learned that she was new and onviously felt bad and we just wanted to pay our tab and leave. Then the man came over from the table and told us they were the owners and that he was sorry and picked up our check. We didn't want them to pay our tab but just concentrate service when trainjng employees. We came back the next night for dinner, the food was not that good but the service was SPOT ON. We enjoyed the few days we stayed at the cabin, very clean, comfietable, fun, beautiful and private. read more

We stayed here this last weekend and would definitely not be recommending this place to anyone. As far as affordability Cascade is great. The room we stayed in unfortunately was very noisy and smelled like the septic tank that was outside the window. When we mentioned this to the staff we were ignored. The bright side to the stay was the restaurant next door was great for breakfast and dinner and the staff at the restaurant was very pleasant. Stay elsewhere and stop by for breakfast. read more

Stayed over the Christmas weekend in their "suite." Accommodations were pretty much what you expect in Minnesota lodge-style offerings. In the rooms, the floor lamp was obviously bought at someone's garage sale; the table lamp had electricity to the bulb, so it had that going for it, but the rest of the lamp was pretty much "dis-assembled." The real burn for me was the fact that they sold me a "dine and wine" package but I later found out that their restaurant was not open on Christmas Day...When we arrived we were told that the restaurant was also closed on Christmas Eve ( that pretty much covered the entire time we would be there). At the desk the lady said the package would be deducted from the bill...When we checked out it was still on the bill. I mentioned this to the guy at the desk and he said "Aawww" in that "poor puppy" attitude. Crap. I can easily afford the $75 or so for the package but the whole attitude, plus I was sold a package that wasn't available with no apologies, convinces us we will never go back. read more

Very disappointed this time around, my husband and I have been coming to the North shore for years, and Cascade was the place we would go every morning for breakfast because prices were reasonable and the service was great. Well, time have changed, it seems under new management the restaurant has gone down hill. I had to hunt down someone to refill our coffee cups, when I asked for regular creamer, we were brought the flavored stuff which neither of us can stand, and the food, it was ok, I do have to say, potatoes o Brien may be Irish, but I think most people would rather have the option to have something not riddled with peppers. On that note, my husband and I decided to start cooking our own breakfast at our hotel. Another thing, I use to really enjoy watching the hummingbirds at the feeders In the windows, sadly this time, not a one Hummer to be seen, could have been the feeders we're moldy and they didn't want to drink?? We stopped here for an early dinner during our vacation and left incredibly disappointed. Our server Hunter was very sweet and friendly, and the atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for: rustic and quaint. My boyfriend ordered the fettuccini Alfredo with chicken and I ordered the Cajun chicken entree, which was described as being topped with "fresh pico de gallo". My boyfriends pasta was awesome, but my dish was awful. The pico was not pico: it was diced red onion and huge chunks of pinkish-white tomatoes, which tasted incredibly sour. After one small bite, I told the waitress that I couldn't eat it and would like to send it back in exchange for a pasta dish, and apologized profusely as I HATE having to send food back (I only do so if I literally cannot eat it). A few minutes later, our server returned and sheepishly asked if I wanted the chicken boxed to take home. I said no, that I really didn't like it and that it was very sour, almost bad. She then explained that the owner would not discount my meal, so she suggested I take it home. My mind was blown, and I told her that if that were the case, I didn't want anything else to eat, I would rather leave hungry. A few more minutes went by and the server returned again to tell us that the owner was going to come talk to us. We waited another fifteen minutes and finally the owner came to our table, and after shaking my hand and introducing herself, said she would not discount the food because she had tried it and it "tasted fine". I told her that quite frankly it didn't matter how it tasted to her, that I wouldn't eat it and wouldn't pay for it. She then attempted to lecture me on the principles of food costs in restaurants, explaining that she couldn't discount the food or she would lose money. I mentioned that I have worked in the restaurant industry my entire life and that the most important thing was that the customer left happy after each meal. Her response? "Agree to disagree". I couldn't believe that this conversation had even taken place. She eventually offered to discount the chicken and replace it with another meal, but I had suggested this 30 minutes prior and had been told no, so at this point all I wanted to do was leave. Thankfully the chicken was not on our tab, or I would've had a much bigger problem! I apologized to our server Hunter up and down, as it was obvious that she had felt completely uncomfortable after her rude owner's interaction with our table. We also overheard the owner making rude comments to other servers during our time there. We tipped Hunter extra just for having to deal with that woman! We will never be back, and we vacation here 4-5 times a summer. Sad, because it would've been our new breakfast spot for sure, had the owner showed any understanding of customer service and restaurant management. read more

Wife and I rented one of the small cabins for our weekend Snowboarding getaway at Lutsen. We chose Cascade because it was close enough to the mountain and a good price for there ski and stay package. We are glad we did. Had a nice Minnesota cabin feel. Cozy and comfy for what we needed it for. We plan to return again for our next snowboard trip! read more

Stayed here in November 2011. Dirty, musty smelling and outdated-hasn't been updated since early 70's and no maintenance since. Bathroom tub clogged badly, caulk was gross/moldy/deteriorated, lighting was very bad, room was cramped and bed was lumpy, uneven and OLD. Very disappointing since this was a birthday gift. Staff is very nice though. Restaurant staff was very good as well. I would not recommend this at all. read more

This is not your spa experience. It's rooms are quite small but have wifi. and tv. A dated lounge in the lodge has a warm feeling especially in winter. Also available is a game room for kids in the basement. We stayed for 3 nights which was 2 too many for the small cabin and hard creaky bed we had, but 1 night could be done. read more

Friendly staff, clean room, bed was comfortable for a motel. The furniture and such looked a little old but that doesn't define the place as a whole. My girlfriend and I had been camping 4 days prior to our stay here about 2hrs 15 minutes away from the lodge. We got into grand Marais at 10...ate late breakfast early lunch around 11, but check in wasn't until 3, we badly wanted to shower, and get clean clothes on. So we called the motel to see if we could check in early at noon (keep in mind check in isn't until 3). They were sooooo kind. They asked the people who clean the rooms to clean our room first so we could get in by 12:30 at the earliest. They called me back within a half hour of me requesting early check in and said we could show up at noon instead of 12:30 it was great. When we got there everyone was so kind. Our room was very clean. Nice bed, nice bathroom. Overall it was a great stay. We were only there for one evening, and left the next morning at 10. But it was such a nice stay and I would go again, for even longer. We did not try the restaurant though. One last thing, great view. We stayed in Cabin 5A wonderful view... read more

Our dessert at the Cascade Restaurant was the highlight of our meal. While the food was good, the chocolate milk shake, lava cake, classic apple pie with ice cream and caramel syrup and blackberry peach were devine. I split pasta Alfredo with my daughter, and it was plenty for the two of us. The Alfredo was creamy but rather bland. It was better after a fairly heavy hand with the salt shaker. One piece of my husband's fried chicken was cooked but cold in the center. The potatoes were barely warm. Our server was friendly but she was slammed with several tables all sitting down in her section at once. That definitely affected the quality the service she provided. I don't believe it's a reflection of the restaurant though. A sweet trio was playing Irish music the night we were there which added to the overall quaint North Shore ambiance. Booked through a deal site where we stayed 2 nights for $150 from July 19-21. Very glad we only paid what we paid. We stayed in a 2nd floor room (202) facing Lake Superior. Upon walking into our room, we were hit by a wall of stuffy, chemical laden air. The room was about 3 decades out of date. There was paint peeling off of the windows and window sills and they were very dirty. When opened the window to air out room, I found a dirty band-aide on the sill. The bathroom needed a major update. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls all over and the fake wood veneer was peeling off of the sink area. Our shower was unusable. We had to shower in the communal shower for our whole stay. When I told the front desk about the broken shower, they did say they would have fixed it for us but this shower had been broken for a long time. I was able to twist the shower head in a complete circle in the wall and the tub spout gushed water no matter what I did. Another thing that I was surprised about was we did not receive any housekeeping service through our stay. Their policy did say that they would provide housekeeping service to the lodge rooms. When we went to the front desk to ask for fresh towels, they kept a record of what towels they were giving us! Overall, I was not impressed. I am very familiar with Lutsen, MN and had wanted to stay in this lodge for a long time. I will never return. And I will not recommend this lodge to anyone else. read more

My wife and I eat at the Cascade Lodge Restaurant at least once every time we come up to the North Shore and have been very happy with our experiences here. Last week we stopped for dinner and I had the special, which was the hot roast beef sandwich. The beef was tender and portion size was ample. A bonus was having no fat on the beef! I thought that they were a little skimpy on the potatoes, which tasted homemade as well as the tasty gravy. My wife had the Moroccan Medley and just loved it. The chicken breast was tender and not over-seasoned. The rice and vegetables were fresh and also had the right amount of seasoning. The waitresses are very efficient and not in such a hurry to not stop and make small talk with you. We'll keep going back. read more
