I was moving to Nashville from Arizona when I saw the sign for great southern food so I figured I will try it since I never been to the south. Worst experience ev in my life. Almost turned back to Az. The employees and customers made it very clear I was not welcome. I never experienced anything racial ever. As I held the door door open for customers coming out they told me it's about time you people opened my door. Too much to explain but definitely think twice about this place. I was also sat in the back directly next to the dishwasher. Go around this place . I feel sorry for those who have to do this to others. read more

Absolutely loved this place and although its a buffet the food was really good. There was a lot of choices there was chicken both fried and baked, meatloaf and chicken and dumplings. I've had better chicken & dumplings but the fried chicken was seasoned and juicy. The macaroni and cheese was creamy and super cheesy, they had greens, green beans, mashed potatoes and they tasted homemade very good taste, they had a huge variety of sides to many to mention them all. Also 2 soups, 4 types of beans, I had the white beans and they were good. The salad bar, dessert bar and fruit bar all had so much to choose from. Also they had fresh fried cornbread cakes and those alone were worth stopping in to try. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the iced tea it seemed week to me but I do like it a bit on the strong side.. this place is GREAT read more

Don't waste your time for breakfast. Although cheap, food was not good. Unfortunately it was bland, greasy and overcooked. The billboards and website was misleading. The Dixie cafe there is only lunch and dinner. Country store has lots of old candy and gums from when we were kids! read more

Two stars for my overall review, but please note the five star worthy home made sweet cucumber salad, true southern red cabbage slaw and several vegetable options on the buffet. The various greens were fresh; however, they were heavily salted. The kids will enjoy the white cheddar Mac and Cheese, which looked like Velveeta, and the peach cobbler (yum.) I had expected a "carved meat" option for Sunday lunch, but the chicken made up for the lack of this perk. The fresh breasted chicken, and the pineapple ham were also very good, BUT... FILTHY, filthy everywhere but the buffet serving dishes. Dust bunnies are hanging from never before washed pictures, and the wires that supply the lighting are caked in cooking grease and hanging with dust. The brick floors and rough sawn walls need a professional cleaning. For just opening one hour before our arrival, the floors were not swept, griddle was not cleaned, the glass on the buffet "sneeze" shield had caked grease in the corners and on the metal framing. We had always wanted to hit this tourist trap, but, we won't be back. I can get a full chicken take out for 4 people just down the road at kroger for the price of one person through the buffet. Oh, and lines!!! It might take you 2 hours to eat on a special occasion day. read more

If you must, stop in for the junk tourist trap souvenirs. Did I say junk? T-shirts, toys etc, etc ad nauseum. Please save you digestive system and DO NOT proceed to the dining area. Jackson has several fine restaurants, you will thank me later. The museum, which was taken OFF the National Historic Registry when it was moved from downtown Jackson many years ago, is probably fairly good. There is another railroad museum at the original depot just south of downtown. it's an interesting local museum. read more

Ok. I'm a bit partial to Casey Jones because my grandmother works here. All the food is fried, they hang on to a cheesy train legacy who died 111 years ago, because to be quite honest....Jackson, TN really isn't all that exciting. With that being said --- here is my review: Casey Jones Village has been around since 1978. It showcases a museum of the home of where good ole Casey grew up until his death. It has the train cabooses you can rent when you want your 9 year old to have a slumber party, a putt-putt golf course, little souvenir shops, and of course the country store itself. All the little amenities that a tourist traps needs. For the locals, it is a place to go enjoy a nice early morning breakfast, or to bring your family to on holidays. Their menu has all the comfort foods of the South. Chicken n dumplins', catfish, mac and cheese, or if they have it open - head for the buffett where you can consume a week's worth of caleries in one sitting. It may be bad for ya, but man....it can be oh so good and sinful at the same time. I've grown up with this place just as many Jacksonians have. Everyone knows about it and has been there a time or six. Either way it goes, regardless of how corny it is, I recommend it simply because it is what we are known for aside from Carl Perkins. read more

Ate here back on Memorial Day Saturday with my mom, great aunt and great uncle. We can for the breakfast buffet. We are from Atlanta, and we're in town for my cousin's wedding. We wanted to try a non-chain restaurant for breakfast, and we were very pleased. We didn't have to wait long to pay (you pay prior to eating), and we were seated pretty quickly. There was a class reunion also going on, so it was extremely busy. But, everything was fresh and tasted really good. Our waitress was very kind and was pretty attentive. The management also had her on the party, as well as several booths. I believe it was a bit much for her to handle, but she did it well. Their pancakes had a good flavor, but were a bit dry. The donut bar was so good. They had fresh strawberry jelly to put on it!! The sausage gravy had a good flavor, and had a slight heat to it! The grits were also really good. The biscuits were very fluffy. They had chocolate gravy. It looked good, but I didn't try it. I also tried the Farmer's Perk coffee stand in the country store. I had the mudslide Mocha iced. It had a great flavor. And was not too sweet. We also ventured outside to the old chapel. It was beautiful and I was glad to know it is still used for services! read more

The buffet was decent. $12.99 for a Sunday Buffet is a decent price. It's southern cooking and is pretty heavy but it was tasty. The Country Store was nifty to look around, they have some great candy selections and all sorts of nifty toys and vintage items. The train museum is small but if you go to the buffet you get a free adult entry with the purchase of an adult entry. Children under 5 are free at the museum. Since we only had to pay for one of us we went in with our son. He mostly enjoyed the steam engine outside and the play tables in the gift shop. I'm glad we didn't have to pay more than $6.50. It took about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Collierville. Not a bad drive but I'd suggest hitting the other train museum or making sure you have other things to do. While Casey Jones Village was interesting it sure isn't a destination spot and you won't kill a ton of time there. read more

Stopped here on our way through Jackson in Jan. 2021. Due to all the Covid restrictions, we were glad to finally be able to eat at at place that had a salad bar and buffet. They do enforce masks when you are not at your table (including going to the buffet), as well as, wiping down the buffet bar and tables. The food was good, especially the salad bar...lots of options and variety. I don't see how anyone could leave hungry! The price was reasonable - $48 for 3 adults. This could be a very cool place to dine and take in all the decor., however it is in desperate need of a deep cleaning! There are spider webs hanging from the ceiling, and the floor looked nasty. The restrooms are dirty, smelly, and way below average. There was an inch of dust on the stall walls and the latch didn't work. Again, the decor. is really cool and the food was good, but the place itself needs a thorough deep cleaning! read more

This is a great place for tourists (checked it out on our way to Memphis). There are some pretty awesome and intriguing (canned possum, anyone?) souvenirs. Elvis memorabilia, lots of candy, t shirts, keychains, etc. Also, some interesting antiques. Don't know how the food was (didn't look all that great). Make sure to at least stop in! Stopped in for lunch with my husband while traveling. I'm not a fan of buffets but I went anyway because my husband wanted to eat here. I was surprised the food was amazing. Visited Sunday, 07/25, food was good, some selections better than others, fried cornbread excellent, fried chicken excellent, meatloaf excellent, candied yams excellent, shrimp and grits excellent, soups excellent. I'd never been there before, had heard mixed reviews but was pleased with the food. So I give 5 STARS for the food. My issue is with the facilities, SHAME SHAME shame on you ... the ladies room was filthy, 5 stalls and two of them out of order, smelly, hot humid, dirty floor, outdated fixtures. Do your patrons a favor, clean your bathrooms every hour and fix what is broken. Better yet, update your restrooms, you can afford it. I give 1 star for restrooms, would give none but had to choose something. Cleanliness matters!!!!! read more

My family stopped in while traveling back home and we were not impressed. After almost a 30 minute wait and specifically asking for a booth because we have a toddler; they gave us a booth after complaining and the food was horrible. Salad bar options were great but you can't enjoy it with slimy lettuce. The meats offered were either over cooked or dry and the sides were about the same. The only thing enjoyable was the mash potatoes and veggies on the salad bar. Not to mention 2 of the 3 silverware packages had dirty silverware in them and the table had a dusty and crusted food napkin dispenser. We will not be going back. read more

Seriously disappointed...... Decided to take a day trip to the Safari Park then to Casey Jones for dinner. The park was great, Casey Jones not so much. I've only eaten here a couple of times several years ago and the food was exceptional. Today the section was low. A lot of the food was barely room temperature. The hot water corn bread was soggy, the greens and yams looked and tasted like Glory canned products. The dressing tasted too "sagey" I was very disappointed in that. The peach cobbler was cold and the crust was dry and crummy. And to top it off on the way out my kids wanted the penny candy at the door. Well it's $8.99 a pound, I hesitated to buy but I did anyway...... bad idea. The candy is too over priced to be penny candy so most people in their right minds don't purchase it. So it sits and sits in those very large whiskey barrels until some one FINALLY purchases it only to get a ways up the road and discovery it's stale VERY STALE. A one pound bag of $8.99 mess. All and all it seems like the restaurant isn't ran by the same people from back in the day when you had to wait for hours outside just to get a seat because the food was just that good. The food at the buffet was really good! I do recommend that anyone that loves southern food stop there for a filling meal. But, I had to give that sorry train museum one star (I really wanted to put zero stars). The customer service there is horrible! I took my kids there and had some fat, bastard yell at them for not noticing a sign on the door that stated you had to pay to get on the train outside. I didn't even notice the sign, but instead of him pointing out the sign, he proceeded to yell that my kids need to learn how to read! It was a simple mistake, and it could have been handled very differently. Never going back again! read more

The restaurant food looks good, but the server and the line man must have had an issue that he wouldn't take care of her and she wasn't the best at the time but the food seems to be good Asked for a refund and the Manager made it happen. It times like these we have to treat one another better. On another note the server kept wiping her hands on her pants no gloves I hope that Management does some training the Resturant has always had great food and good service. Went to buffet today for lunch for the last time ever!! Food was good but terrible customer service! Cashier rang us up with military discount and when I asked about senior discount, (which was a better deal than senior) go figure....she said they couldn't void out to re ring up with senior discount. I asked for manager or supervisor but they were conveniently in a meeting. Also, I would have thought drinks would have been included in a buffet price!!! Never again will I go there!! Everything was terrible! Well, our drinks were ok once we got the correct beverages but nothing food wise was worth having. Dressing was so dry it crumbled. Some food items were cold and others over cooked. Greens had a bitter taste. Cabbage had no flavor and was water logged. Rolls were out of a bag. Fried cornbread was way too think. I love the Old Country Store. Their buffet is one of the best in Jackson. They have tons of choices on their salad bar and the rest of the food is even better!! The banana pudding is great but, grab some as soon as you can because it seems to be everyone else's favorite too. I also like the fudge and ice cream parlor. The fudge is homemade and to die for. I love how they have tons of souvenirs to buy in their shop. All kinds of candy you can't find anywhere else. Things my mom and dad remember and I had no clue to what they were til they made me try it. It's a trip back in time for alot of people. I've also been to the train museum and my kids had a blast. You can't beat the prices. One of the cheapest places you can go for a vacation or just a Saturday afternoon. You can just park, eat, and explore!! read more

...Been about 3-4 years since i was at this spot. If your train happens to stop near i40 in Jackson, although a tourist spot, its still worth checking out Casey Jones Village. Southern food, sweet tea, trains, and fudge is about all i remember from this spot. People were friendly, prices were ok, and the fudge was great! Almost didn't stop here because of the negative reviews. I am so glad We did; the food was excellent and so many great choices expertly prepared just like my grandmother; the hot water corn beard was excellent cooked right on the spot. They call them hoecakes in these parts. The chicken and the fish was excellently seasoned and the greens were just what you would expect; all three different varieties. They had so many varieties of southern food it was hard to decide. The place could use a little cleaning especially the brick floor. But are you really going to look at the floor or enjoy a great southern meal? read more
