Date: 10/7/2020 Time: 8:35 AM 52° Cloudy My husband and I usually do our recycling with Standard Iron & Metal on San Leandro Blvd. Due to COV-19, they have been closed. I called them a few months ago, inquiring as to when will they be opened for business. They gave me a recommendation to check out Cash for Cans for recycling. This morning we stopped by Cash for Cans. We arrived before 9:00 AM, we lucked out and found street parking across the street. They were already opened. People were already lined up with their bags of cans, plastic and glass bottles. The process was quick. It was like an assembly line. Employees were available to help us along the way. They emptied our aluminum cans into gray containers. I noticed the red containers were for plastic bottles. I have to admit the service here was better than Standard. My husband and I were in and out of there in about 10 minutes. There will be more returned visits to Cash for Cans for recycling. Thanks to Standard for their recommendation. We have options for recycling. Yay!

Before coming here separate bottles/cans by the type of material in a bag. There is only street parking available. Upon arrival: 1) Place cans/bottles in the designated colored bins. Red bins are for glass. Black bins could be for aluminum or plastic. 2) Line up to get bins weighted. 3) An employee will record the weight and calculate the amount of money you will get. 4) You print your name and sign that record paper. 5) An employee gives you a paper stating how much money you will get. 6) Walk over to a window to redeem your money. I came on a Saturday around 9AM and was in and out within ~10 minutes. I recommend to bring gloves or sanitizer to use upon leaving since the handles on the bins get dirty and sticky over time.

This place gives a good rate on bottles and cans. I will be going this weekend to sell some stuff. They could upgrade their bins though!

Showed up mid-day & the place was shut down, with an OPEN sign on the door and a very long line of unhappy people. Go somewhere else.

For reference, I received ~$18 for 3 trash bags of cans and 2 trash bags of plastic bottles (not crushed).

On some school e-waste collection events, they even wanted to charge me $10 or $20 for bringing them the junks...no thank you. I was paid $0.35/lb for computers (59 lb) and $0.11/lb for the TV (44 lb). I collect a bit over $25 for the e-waste, which is pretty good. Actually, I brought in two 40 inch LCD TVs and another customer at the parking lot asked to purchase one TV for $10 thinking of trying to repair it. Overall, it's a great experience. Customer service was quick and friendly.

I had a terrible experience at CalWest Recycling. The owner was incredibly rude and unprofessional…read morefrom start to finish. Not only was he cursing at me, but he also called me a "dick," which is completely unacceptable behavior for someone running a business. To make matters worse, I was instructed to unload and move my own pallet of batteries for recycling. After I had already done the work, I was suddenly told I couldn't continue because I was wearing Birkenstocks. If that was actually a safety policy, one of the employees could have easily told me before I started unloading instead of waiting until I was finished. When I was told I had to wait in my car, I simply walked over to my vehicle, and the owner continued insulting me by calling me a "dick" as I left. Customer service and basic professionalism were completely absent. There are plenty of other recycling businesses that treat their customers with respect. I would definitely recommend taking your business elsewhere.
