I have driven down Anderson Lane probably a thousand times, and somehow never noticed Casita Guanajuato (Mexican city where the owner is from) until today. I finally stopped in this morning, and I'm honestly wondered how I managed to pass by it for so long. The food is traditional Mexican cuisine that tastes like it came straight from your mom's kitchen. I ordered two tacos - sausage and egg & sausage and potato. At first glance you could tell the ingredients were mixed by hand. All the ingredients were fresh, well-seasoned, and enjoyable to eat. The tacos were $2.75 each, which is an amazing price in any market. The portions were generous, and the flavors were authentic. Loved my tacos.. The atmosphere is simple and unassuming. Hilda, my server, was pleasant. I was planning to buy one taco, and she convinced me to buy two tacos. She had such welcoming spirit and a familial tone; I could not resist. (05/03) Came by with my partner after a long day of running errands and being near the area, and this place was by far one of the worst taquerias we've been to service wise. The staff working there are so inattentive and slow, no one came by to refill either of our waters or chips and we had to get up and go to the counter to get their attention for anything. The queso again tasted like microwaved Kraft cheese, but the enchiladas plate tasted fine. It wasn't spectacular by any means and it was also $12 which is ridiculous, but at least it was edible I guess... Wouldn't come back sadly :( read more

If I could give zero stars I would. This is in Austin Tx but I'm from Fort Worth Tx on vacation. We were passing it & we saw a Happy Hour sign. We turned the truck around to go try it out. We go in order 2 margaritas at the counter they said pick a table. When they brought the drinks they brought menus. We told them we were just having a drink. Few minutes later she comes back for our order I said again we are just drinking. She said we have to order something to be able to drink there. We said there is nothing posted saying we have to order food. Tells us her Manager was going to come talk to us... We go out every Friday for margaritas so we know a good or bad margarita. Now at this point we have tried the margaritas & they are disgusting but we wasn't going to say anything. The lady keeps saying we have to order something. So my full margarita was a total waste of money that I couldn't even drink. As we paid the bill I told her it sucks that I'm paying for a drink I can't even tolerate enough to drink. Overall disappointing. I had poor service. The chicken in my meal had weak seasoning (I say weak because it tasted plain). I had flies bothering me as I tried to eat. My glass was never refilled. I didn't finish my meal, but no one returned with a check, so I couldn't ask for something to take it home in before I gave it to the flies. I almost don't want to write this review since it may be one of the best kept breakfast taco secrets in all of Austin. These days, it's not shocking to find a taco spot charging $5+ for a single breakfast taco (which is outrageous). And then you find out that the $5 taco has two bites worth of filling and you leave unsatisfied. This place flips the script on that trend. Three tacos (must be all the same fillings) for $4! I repeat $4! Each taco is nicely filled and then you top it off with the perfect amount of spicy green sauce. I typically go with the chorizo but all options are great. This hidden gem reminds me of all of the cool little places we have lost over the past couple of decades in Austin. Clarita was my server and she was absolutely wonderful. When the tostadas arrived, almost fell out of my chair upon seeing how huge they were! I ended up taking one home for later... Lucky me!!! I had read an online review from a regular who proclaimed that they have "The Best Tortilla Soup Anywhere". Tortilla Soup has long been my go-to barometer for Mexican restaurants, so I will definitely be trying that very soon...(lol! We had a late breakfast of scrambled eggs, refried beans, chilaquiles or house-made soft light corn tortillas, chorizo or cheese, Ranchero or salsa verde. The service was fast and friendly and the place was busy on a late Friday morning. Good value for the money. For comparable restaurants in its class, we give it a 5. Me and the wife allways sitt in the back part of the restaurant (once they told me it wasn't available and that was fine by me) after asking a server if it was ok, We proceeded to sit. We chose the table towards the very back (our favorite table) and she proceeds to give us the worst service I've gotten at a restaurant so far. A morning breakfast for convenience was just a lack of interest for a repeat visit to this small place. The decor could use more of a lively update and the obvious wires "hanging around" added to the sad appearance. Just a simple touchup to secure any lose wires and paint into the wall color and maybe a small decorative (mid wall) border detail could liven up the place. The service was fair; prices were fair and the food was hearty for such a small place. Just lacking in appeal and authenticity to the "central Mexico flair of colour". A small restaurant that has a good menu, but could just get a bit more lively in appearance. We randomly stopped here on our way to our airBNB late night for some soup. I got the tortilla, and Hub got the pozole. We added chips and salsa and sopaipillas. It came to a LOT of food. The soups are easily two portions each. Everything was good. They separated the ingredients for my tortilla soup, so everything was fresh when I mixed it at the airbnb. The sopaipilla was made well with drizzled honey, and it was puffy and light. The salsa was traditional and good. If you have bad salsa, forget about the rest. So it's a good no thrills mex place. I did read some of the negative reviews afterward, and I'm not sure I will eat here again because one of the reviews grossed me out so much. But hey, before I was informed, it got 4 stars from me. The food came with forks, knives, napkins in styrofoam boxes inside a white and happy smile-yellow face bag. I tried this place for two reasons: 1) The place I really wanted to try was closed on Monday and this place was within 1/2 a mile from the place that I really wanted and 2) this place had great reviews on Google Reviews. The reviews were for another name other than "La Casita", but it's the same place and same address (maybe the name was changed; I don't know). I called in an order to go. The lady that answered the phone hardly spoke English. This should have been a red flag, but I was being optimistic due to the Google Reviews. The service was awful and I didn't even dine-in; I can only imagine how the service would have been had I. I walked in and just stood behind a guy at the register for a few minutes while the waitresses acted as if we weren't there. They didn't acknowledge us or say someone will be with us momentarily. Two ladies literally stood there talking to one another and it wasn't about work either--it was a casual conversation as if they weren't working. Then a lady walked in, they greeted her as if they were excited to see her, and started chatting with her. This whole time the waitresses are not attending to the people that are actually dining in. Finally, the guy ahead me is helped followed by me. Well, I ordered enchiladas and a side of tortillas. I should have asked if the tortillas were homemade before I let them charge me nearly $2 for store bought tortillas that were gross. The enchiladas were not good. The beans and rice had no flavor.
