Their buns are so fresh soft and there's something amazing about the beer steamed links here, which is that they have an amazing texture due to the tight casing on the sausage and allows for this amazing juicy flavorful bites. Legit dog joint! 11 years after moving to the East Bay, I tried Casper's 11 minutes before I moved to LA. What?! Yup. LOVED it! What did I love? The throwback architecture and design. The ex-con-ish dog slayer/chef AND especially the union represented cashier/order taker (she was 23 years in!) To be honest, I'm not a serious dogger. However, I visited Detroit two years ago and my pal took my to Lafayette Coney Dogs and I fell deeply in lust for chili cheese dogs! I'd eyed Casper's for years and always thought it wasn't my gig - flat wrong. I loved the place - the vibe, the food...it's serious 5 star! Been here for quite some time now, and I only now got a chance to visit when a buddy forced me to try the place. I mean, it's definitely no-frills, so don't expect an experience here. But if you've got a hankering for some good old fashioned hot dogs, you really can't go wrong with Casper's. I have no idea how they stay in business. We used to love Caspers but they went downhill. I bought two regular Dogs and got chopped onions instead of sliced- the sliced onion is part of the appeal. I got half the onions of normal. The dogs were luke warm as well. I'm not going there anymore. Maybe Kaspers is Livermore is still good. read more

Love Caspers Hot Dogs, but......sometimes..sometimes folks, they don't steam the buns enough. They put a new set of buns in and they come out just bready and crusty with no steamy softness. No frills for sure! A classic hot dog joint with a very limited menu that you definitely cant be mad at. Every casper dog has an incredible casing that snaps upon every chew. The buns are perfectly steamed and the toppings are generous. I will admit the chili is a bit on the bland side for my liking but can be made up flavor wise if you add the additional topping. Definitely a knife and fork meal. I grew up in San Ramon and for as long as I can remember Casper's has always been there. They never updated their look either which is kind of cute. Even though I grew up in the area I had only been to Casper's once many many moons ago. I didn't have the chance to go back until today. The service here is very friendly. I got a chili cheese dog combo which comes with chips and a drink. This is one of the few places in the area you can get a chili cheese dog without having to drive out all the way to a Sonic. The chili here is real chili that includes beans, usually the fast food version doesn't have beans in their chili. The cheese they use here is shredded cheddar. I kind of wish they used nacho cheese with it. The combos are around $6-$7, which is kinda pricey considering a hot dog and drink at Costco is $1.50 or at Sonic it's around $1.99 for chili cheese dogs. It's nice though to support a local business. read more

I've been coming here for years and I'm a creature of habit. Always get the Hot Link and Casper Dog, chips and a drink. The hot link is one of the best flavored links I ever found. Casper's have their own sausage factory in San Leandro and the recipe is outstanding. This place is always clean and service is good. It's best to eat in house since the dogs are steamed. This was my first time eating at Casper's, which is a little odd considering I've lived less than 5 minutes away for as long as I can remember and hot dogs are one of my favorite foods. Overall I really enjoyed my experience at this establishment. When I walked in the place was very clean and I was greeted immediately, I didn't know what I wanted to order and I didn't feel pressure to hurry up when I was looking over the menu (I was the only person looking to order food, so maybe it's different when they are busy). I decided to order the chile cheese dog with onions to go. The hot dog was delicious. The chili had the right level of spice and the hotdog had the right level of snap. Today was Mother's Day and my mom wanted a Casper's hot dog - she loves them. We decided to check on Google what their hours were and it said 8:30. In our heads we had an hour. We drove over and we were the only ones in the parking lot save for the one employee working. It looked like he was closing down (the floors had been recently mopped, and the tables and counters looked wiped down). He asked what we wanted and started to make them. He already seemed annoyed because there was no greeting, no chatting while we were standing there, just silence. Because I don't like silence (I work retail so I like to talk and chat with customers a little bit so our interaction isn't just transactional) I decided to make a little joke about us being THOSE people for coming towards closing knowing we had an hour. He responded with "You ARE those people!". No chuckle, "just kidding", nothing. Since I actually DON'T like being "those" people, I said "Your website says you close at 8:30" (I meant Google, but usually it pulls from the website. "No it doesn't." "I checked Google and it says 8:30". "We close at 8". *Definitely felt awkward and so did my mom.* He began to explain that the website doesn't have the hours listed because they want to be able to change the hours when they want and they've tried to talk to Google about it but they won't change it. He further explained how we have all given over our data to either Apple or Google and they know everything about us and Casper's doesn't want that. I'm awkwardly laughing and trying to sort of ease the tension because I feel guilty for coming in and am getting a lecture on modern day technology. As this lecture is going on, my mom is inching closer and closer to the exit. Finally he hands us our food and tells her to have a happy Mother's Day. This entire thing took 5 minutes. 5 minutes. In that time my experience completely changed my attitude of Casper's. What needs to happen is for them to post their hours on their website...and if your hours change, you change your signage, website, social media pages, etc. just like every other business does. As of right now, Google says it closes on Sunday at 8:30, Yelp says it's actually CLOSED on Sundays, and their website says nothing. No Casper's for me anymore, unless mom wants one. read more

Amazing dogs!!!!! I got my chili cheese dog to go because I was in a hurry. Generally speaking, hot-dogs to go are just.. ya know.. hot dogs, you can't expect too much from them. What a surprise when I opened my box and had my first bite!!!!!!!!!!! The dog itself was easily the best I've ever had.. it tasted fresh, flavorful, juicy. This isn't just a hot dog to get you by, it's an actual darn good hot dog! Very filling, too!! The guys working there were funny and very efficient. The place is cash-only but they do have an ATM machine in the corner. My only wish is that their menu included onion rings, cheese curds, or whatever other disgustingly delicious junk goodies I love to normally eat with my hot dogs... but for now, their dogs will be enough to keep me coming back!! read more
