Needed a quick lunch and was driving by so decided to hop in to check it out. Easy parking in the strip mall lot. Inside looked good, nice and clean joint with big TVs. So I got a fish burrito to go. An unexpected find while working in Pleasantant. I'm accustomed to excellent Mexican food having lived in San Diego and was pleasantly surprised having found Rancho Grande Taqueria. I ordered the green enchilada with chicken and was blown away by the texture, quality and quantity of the enchiladas. The side of rice and beans created the perfect balance between the zesty green sauce and the creamy beans with fluffy rice. A generous portion of guacamole and sour cream added an extra layer of flavor, creating the perfect bite. The resaturant serves beer which is a plus! What a big disappointment. We opted to go here over our favorite taqueria, and boy did we regret on this evening. The Friday evening crowd had a steady flow, so we'd expect it to be satisfactory. Immediately upon arriving, I noticed the prices were very expensive for what is an otherwise clean hole-in-a-wall restaurant. 6" quessadillas are around $8, burritos are over $12, and our taco salads were $17.95. I quickly looked up other sit down Mexican restaurants nearby and they're less expensive. Our usual favorite taqueria is at least 40% less expensive. The service is swift and everything else was a miss. We ordered the al pastor and bbq chicken for our taco salads. The meat is drenched in sauce and overwhelmed all other flavors in our meal. The actual meat is not marinated do that the actual meat has flavor. The grilled chicken burrito was meh. It made for a horrible eating experience. It's a family owned business, and they're always super nice whether we order over the phone or in person they always have great welcoming energy. My go to is the carne asada super burrito with no sour cream it's packed with tons of flavor! It definitely gives authentic Mexican restaurant, reminds me of all the great Mexican restaurants my Dad would take me to as a kid in Hayward/San Leandro area and honestly it's sometimes hard to find that authenticity in the Tri-Valley. Came here on recommendation from a friend, and had a great meal! I originally wanted quesabirria tacos, but they were out of the birria meat. Back in 2020 I was 19 and living alone, working next door to here barely making enough to live and eat. I would come here after work and they would feed me until I could not eat anymore, sometimes refusing payment and just helped me out with a meal. Looking back years later, I realized that this taqueria had no obligation to help keep me fed, or to send me home with free boxes of rice after my long shifts at work, but they still did. We have been regulars at Rancho since before I can remember. We eat there 1-2x a week. They have really gone down hill over the last year. Every time we order lately, something is not correct or something we paid extra for was not included. This burrito was $15+ and it was 50% sour cream and the size of a small kids burrito. It was a late afternoon, not having lunch yet and torn on what to eat as well as wanting to try some place different. I settled on Mexican and remembering a place I had drove by many times. In the back of a strip mall, tucked in the far corner was this place. It's a small relatively tidy place with a 49 diner capacity. I ordered the super burrito with carnitas protein and a small fountain drink (Diet Coke). It has a nice salsa bar with a variety of salsas. Also, a self serve chips table. The burrito was brought out quickly. After a couple of bites, I can taste the roasted spiced pork reminiscent of traditional pull pork without bbq sauce. Together with the filling of beans, rice, cheese, sour cream and guacamole sprinkled with salsa made a tasty burrito. The chips with salsa and burrito bites were awesome. The service was friendly and kind. Diner traffic did varied during my visit. There was an ebb and flow. I would definitely stop by if I'm in the neighborhood. read more

First time at rancho grande taqueria! I got a Super Burrito and my friend got the Jumbo Burrito. The wait was about 5 minutes for our food on a Sunday evening. See the picture attached for my burrito. It was heavy and filling! I heard great things about their salsas and they did not disappoint. The chips were fresh and that deserves extra recognition. Can't go wrong with their chips and salsa. I would come back again if I'm in the area. Excellent service. Staff checked in on my friend and I to make sure we were content and happy as well. I haven't gone here in a while and decided to try it again. I ordered through doordash and got the super burrito with barbacoa($13.75) and a birria taco($3.35). The taco was good but the tortilla was so soggy I had to eat it with a fork. Of course I'm not expecting the standard to be the same as eating in. The taco tastes great and probably would order that again. The disappointment was when I got the the burrito. I order it to be cut in half and when I opened it up, there was a 99% mixture of rice, guacamole, onion, salsa, and sour cream. COVID-19 DoorDash delivery review. Ordering was not that easy through DoorDash. DH got it three soft taco combo plate, but it only allowed you to enter choice one and choice three for the meat. DH typed in the choices that he wanted: Carnitas, Cabeza, and Barbacoa. All three were OK, surprisingly not too greasy, but seemingly undersalted. They did not put the salsa on there directly, so adding this really helped up the flavor. This is not a lot of food, so DH, a light eater, was still a bit hungry afterwards. I ordered a regular two mix meat burrito with Al Pastor and grilled chicken. The translations are found in the second meat choice on the menu. The burrito was a pretty good size and wrapped in aluminum foil. The meat and fillings were tender and moist. The rice was probably a little too soft, but that's OK. Both the rice and beans were pretty salty, so it complemented the under salted meat well. The tortilla was very soft and fresh. I had about half a burrito leftover and DH had a few bites. The thin house-made tortilla chips were excellent. We put a note to include chips and they gave us three small bags. Along with small cups of salsa. The red salsa it was slightly spicier than the green one, but neither was extremely spicy. We asked for mild salsa. Salsa was slightly watered down, but the flavor profile was good. We tried one shrimp taco and it was very plain. I don't think they seasoned the shrimp in any way. This was not bad, but I don't think we are going to order it again. It comes with shredded lettuce. Overall, a pretty good authentic Mexican restaurant, but you have to set your expectations accordingly. This is a basic place to eat, not fancy Kenji alt - Lopez type of food! I think it is better than the other authentic Mexican places we have tried in the area, so I gave them an extra star. But don't go out of your way to eat here! We can make tastier Carnitas at home, but then again, we are using the Serious Eats recipe! read more

We had 7 tacos with grilled beef; omg so delicious Service was friendly and foods came out fresh and fast. There were free chips and salsa that were tasty too. Inside of restaurants was clean not huge place but enough for family and friends gathering. Foods were very authentic compared to other Mexican restaurants in that area. We ended up take out for tamales and burritos after finishing eating 7 tacos. Highly recommend this place and we will go back to try other dishes soon. read more
