They fry in canola oil. Took our grandson to lunch, his fav is chicken nuggets but I can't eat at the major fast food chains. Luckily there is Athen's burger which has always been a reliable good place. It's locally owned and good quality fast food. Grandson enjoyed his oreo shake, chicken nuggets & fries, hubs had a cheeseburger & we shared onion rings, & I had a chicken gyro. Everything was fresh, hot, and yummy. You order at the counter & they bring it to you, drinks are self serve. Service was really nice & we didn't even know you could add on to the kids menu with a shake. I have had their fish & chip before, everything there is good, and they have weekly (or daily?) specials (today was lamb burger, beef barley soup, chicken caesar), and a lot of choices of shake flavors (including mango!). Amazing customer service and the establishment is pretty big! What I love the most is their chilli is all beef, with no beans. Prices are absolutely affordable, $10 for a cheeseburger and the patty tastes moist. The food is fresh and right off the grill. Chilli has no beans which I love! The beef is fresh and all natural. A solid casual dining experience. Our usuals are burgers and zucchini fries. Instead of a beef burger well done, it was a turkey burger this time which was over a juicy half inch thick. The zucc fries came crispy and enough for a couple hungry people. You're greeted warmly as you enter and receive super efficient service at the counter. The large black board shows specials and a rather impressive variety of shake flavors served diner style in a tall glass and the extra in the metal mixing cup, as enjoyed by a young child in a table nearby. Oh, the indulgences of youth! A few months ago I had the grilled chicken salad special with some fresh strawberries & blueberries on mixed green lettuce. At the rate I'm going, I'm going to turn into a burger. If I did, I would be in good company. When I rolled up to Athens at dinnertime, the parking lot was almost full. Considering the other businesses they share the little stop mall with, I knew it was for them. They attract a really divers crowd. Bikers, parents and kids, couples, seniors, and a group of men who looked suspicioualy like vets. I had to wait in line about 10 minutes. Not bad. Give you time to check out the menu. Had to wait for my food about 10 minutes. Also not bad. The reward was well worth the wait. Thick burger, fresh fixings, and char. Think burger king char about 1000 times better. The nest was well done, but not dry. Just enough toppings to keep things interesting, but not make it too messy. Lots of other offerings if burgars aren't your thing To include over 1/2 dozen different milkshake options. Everything I saw looked delicious. My mango one was creamy and cold in the front and all mango on the back. I went away full and satisfied. Something to note, the space is bigger thank you would think. I think they took over a neighboring business and knocked down the wall. So really big and easy to find a table. I got the Athens burger combo with curly fries. The curly fries were solid, it's like Jack-In-The-Boxes but with fresher oil? It just tasted cleaner even though it was equally greasy hah. The Athens burger was good. The patty was really chard, but the insides were still juicy. The veggies tasted fresh. It's a really solid burger, not the best that I've ever had. This place is relatively close to my fire station, so we will stop by here occasionally if we're unable to cook for ourselves. Really good menu, quite good food too. The storefront is quite deceiving; in the strip mall, it looks like it's tiny. When in fact, it's quite spacious and very nice on the inside. The guys working there are rather friendly too. It's a 3.5 for me. Was craving a tuna melt so did a quick search on DoorDash delivery. I ordered from this place also because the variety of sides. The food and ingredients all seemed like good quality and fresh. The tuna melt was a tinge too salty and could've used some pepper and maybe even diced celery. I couldn't tell if they forgot the cheese or used a really really thin slice of cheese because it seemed to be missing with no melty cheese stringy pulls at all when I split the sandwich. I ordered the combo basket of mushrooms and zucchini. it was a good quantity of both, but lacked flavor, including salt. with that said, I'd rather have something fried be bland, than salty, since you can just add s&p but can't ever take saltiness away. they would really benefit from throwing their sides in a big silver bowl and tossing with s&p after frying. What drew me here was the no-frills diner look, and affordable prices. When you arrive, you'll grab a menu and order from the counter. From there it's self seating. For me, I've been on a tuna melt kick, so I went with that, plus an order of the Buffalo tater tots. The tuna melt was really solid and a great deal at $9.50 for just the sandwich. The tots were good but the sauces and toppings needed to be distributed better and the sauce a little thicker. Still good though. We also ordered a basket a mixed basket of fries with regular and sweet potato. Those don't come salted and it definitely needed some. I have rated this place recently, but it has been here for a long time. Ever since being here in the late 90' Athens Burgers has been a prominent feature of Dublin blvd. Like a traditional restaurant with modern features. Its a nice place for a traditional gyro, an old fashioned burger, or even a crab melt. Authentic onion rings and thick crispy fries, or I believe even curly fries regular or spicy. I am sure they serve milkshakes, and a number of other dishes. Its a nice place to sit down, with friendly staff bringing your order to whatever table you choose. It has ample space for larger gatherings in an area off to the main dining area. I believe you would need arrangements. So far everything has been great, I love the burgers but I typically get the gyro, can't resist. read more

The best! I've been coming to Athens for over 10 years and it has consistently been great! Whenever you walk in the door you feel like family. Tonight I ordered a full basket of onion rings, pesto chicken sandwich and a beer. The chicken pesto was grilled chicken with pesto sauce, cheese, sun dried tomatoes (I got no tomato) all on a Parmesan crusted bread and was amazing. The chicken was juicy and the pesto was very fresh tasting. The onion rings were fried to perfection! Not once did I bite any onion ring and get the dreaded whole piece of onion coming out. I haven't come back since they remodeled and the restaurant is totally changed now! They knocked out the booths, and added a bar and high top tables and low tables. I got a patty melt, fried combo ( fried mushrooms & fried onion rings ) but you can choose a combo of whatever you want. The prices are still pretty good, $12 for a large patty melt, and the fried combo was $10 but was more than enough food for 6 people. Great neighborhood non chain restaurant for diner classics. Found this burger place when me and my wife were looking for a quick lunch and we loved it. Unpretentious, clean and spacious spot. They focus in their food and you can see that. Blue cheese burger was spot on, fresh ingredients, decent patty and great overall combination of flavors. My wife had their Buffalo chicken sandwich and it was so juicy, plus the extra jalapeños that we added really kicked up a notch. The stars of our meal were the fried mushrooms, perfectly crispy on the outside and when you take a bite (I recommend eating the whole thing in one bite) all the juices burst into your mouth and the explosion feeling really made a nice food experience. What a huge space for a burger restaurant. It seems to be too big, there's tons of open space in the middle. In turn, they do retain heat longer. No flavor, but salt is right there on the table. Burger is where it's at. I did you standard cheeseburger with whatever comes with it. Pickles, lettuce tomate, mayo, and raw red onion. I could do without the raw onion, as it tends to linger on me the rest of the day. Prefer the grilled onion and I'm sure you can customize it. But the actual burger itself was a hit. Tons of flavor, cooked perfectly. Not the biggest patty, but I think everything in the burger is balanced well with each other. We've been here several times but now are moving out of the area, so this will be our last time. We were sweaty and disgusting after packing/moving. We needed real food, a step up from drive thru. I usually get the bacon avocado cheeseburger with onion rings. My husband switches off with the blue cheese burger, chili cheese fries and regular cheeseburger. Every time it's been delicious. This time I asked if they sold wine To Go. I remember during Covid this became a thing that restaurants started selling alcohol To Go since you weren't allowed to dine in. Service is friendly and the food is made with care and to order. The burger was satisfying. The one issue is that the frozen beef patty has a ceiling on how good it can taste. If they used better beef, it would really elevate it. Fries were also satisfying and made to order, but tasted as if they were frozen and not made in house. The prices are not particularly cheap. I'm getting near the end of my stay here in Dublin and the greater East Bay of the Bay Area. I'm glad to be back in the safe suburbs after visiting some sketchy parts of East Oakland looking for iconic old school restaurants. So, I'm wanting a burger or something like that, and my friend from Dublin, knows of a burger place that's been here open for like 25 years or more. Athens Burgers Restaurant is located on the older part of Dublin Blvd, as opposed to the new and shiny east Dublin area of new shopping centers and upscale stores. Old school burger place it is .... easy to find and no prob parking, unlike Oakland. I thought of a burger but they have a Patty melt on the menu, one of my fave sandwiches. I get that for $9.50 and my friend does as well. We get to go as it's a nice day to eat outside at a park or something. I can smell the Patty Melts in the car as we drive away. Wow, this is one good Patty Melt with the bread grilled perfect, crispy on the outside with melty cheese and a nice burger patty inside with grill onions.
