My boyfriend and I recently visited last Sunday and we were very happy with the restaurant. We both had a cup of gumbo and it was piping hot (I seen other reviews that said their food was cold that was not an issue for us) the gumbo was really good, we shoulda got a bigger portion. My boyfriend wanted chicken and waffles (but the waffle maker was broken and that's the reason I didn't give 5 stars across the board) so he got the crawfish etouffee instead and he enjoyed it. He really liked their sweet tea as well. I got the catfish and grits and was so good! Our waitress was nice and continued to check on us. The ambiance was nice, we were casual because we were at the casino across the street. It gives a jazz vibe if there was a live band! Dined in after church. The waiter was superb. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. I ordered collard greens, yams and 2 smothered pork chops with rice, cornbread, $5 bread pudding special. I sent the collard greens back as I really didn't like their taste. I can't tell what was wrong but it didn't taste right. The yams and rice and cornbread was good. The pork chops were big and tasted like they were fried and some gravy poured over them. They were not tender. The gravy had a good flavor. I ate 1 pork chop and bought the other one home to slow cook it more to make it tender. read more

The reviews for this place are spot on. The service was sub par but i think that's because they charge 18% gratuity on any party of 1 or more. The oxtails were tender but they had no flavor other than that of gravy. They were also very fatty. The sides were cold. I'm pretty sure the green beans were canned. The drinks were no better. There was too much ice strawberry puree and the lemon juice used was clearly concentrate and not fresh. read more

I was in town, and my friend recommended this spot. She ordered the catfish with shrimp, and I went with the fried pork chops, greens, and candied yams. My friend said her fish and shrimp had no seasoning -- meanwhile, I think my pork chops got all of it because they were extremely salty. The candied yams tasted like they came straight out of a can or were mixed with canned sweet potatoes. The greens were okay, but they didn't taste like fresh ones. Both my cornbread and yams were served at room temperature. My friend ordered lemonade and said it tasted like Country Time from the can. I had the sweet tea, which was actually really good. When I got the bill, I noticed an automatic 18% gratuity added on top of 10% taxes -- almost a 30% increase to the total. The restaurant itself was clean, the music was nice, and the ambiance was great, but overall, the food and prices just weren't worth it. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back. read more

Came in this particular day mid day and maybe 2 people were there I had the smothered chicken, rice & gravy, Mac & Cheese and cornbread. Solid experience. I wasn't sure what to expect from this restaurant, and walking in, it had an interesting vibe tweet. On one side, there are fancy tables with lined cloth and cushioned seating. On the other side, there are metal tables and chairs, an open bar, and wide space. Since I wasn't there for a fancy time, I sat on the metal table side. Service was great, they were very quick and were friendly. I got my food fairly quickly. I ordered gator bites since I've never had alligator before. I also ordered smothered shrimp, which comes with a complementary salad. I don't have any other experience with alligator, so I cannot compare their dish to others, but I thought they were good. For those who haven't had gator before, the meat was fairly tough. However, it tasted good. The complementary salad was just complementary salad. The smothered shrimp was very flavorful, and the sauce complemented the rice and shrimp very well. Usually, I do not like rice dishes because of restaurants' frequent imbalance between flavor, but this dish was very good. I highly recommend the smothered shrimp dish if you come here. I think this place would work well for any sort of large groups or for a romantic dates. read more

The gumbo had crab shells in it - like significant chunks. When I mentioned it, the chef came out and lectured me that " people from Louisiana" know what to expect from gumbo. I let her know I was aware of what gumbo is and normally it doesn't have shells in it. They also automatically add 18% grat, so there is no incentive for good service. read more

I dined at Cassandra's On the River in Shreveport three times while attending a regional conference March 26-29, 2026. I had (1) wings with collard greens and coleslaw; (2) chicken and waffles with greens; and (3) the catfish platter with hush puppies, fries, and coleslaw. All dishes were delicious but the catfish was the real star! It was piping hot, crunchy and seasoned just right. I am pictured with the owner Cassandra who was delightful to meet. I experienced once challenge with a to go order that was very delayed but Cassandra's husband who is the manager personally resolved the issue. Overall, considering the conference had 6,000 attendees in Shreveport, I believe the restaurant accommodated customers well. The menu had special $19.08 conference pricing for several dishes which was thoughtful and much appreciated! There was conference related signage and pink and green balloon columns to acknowledge conference attendees which was lovely and far more than any other establishment did in the area. I highly recommend this restaurant and will return if I'm ever in Shreveport again. read more

My mother said the women's bathroom smelled absolutely terrible. She ordered the chicken and waffles and loved them. (Forgot to take picture) And I ordered the vegetable plate. Collard greens, red beans and rice, and Mac and cheese. $14 total with a piece of cornbread. The side dish was too small to serve collard greens on for a vegetable plate. This side of greens had less than last time. I have a video of my side of greens having only 3.5-four forkfuls of greens. That was really disappointing. However, they had a much better flavor than last time. The Mac and cheese had a unique flavor. The red beans and rice were very well seasoned and had a great flavor. We came to Cassandra's for a birthday dinner. This was my first time but I've heard a lot of great things about it. What stood out to me was the wonderful service and how fast the food came out considering we had a party of 20, plus they were busy when we arrived. Another thing that I appreciated was the owner (Cassandra) walked around greeting customers and assisting with the hosting and cleanup. The ambiance of the restaurant is casual but adapts well if you would prefer to dress up or be formal. The restaurant is clean and well-managed. My food was a bit room temperature but I didn't make a fuss about it. We had a lot of orders. The beef tips were flavorful and tender and the gravy had lots of flavor. The Mac n cheese and fried okra were good and my brother enjoyed his smothered shrimp. The portion sizes are amazing in these two dishes. I'm full for the rest of the day. I will come back to try another dish. Their speciality seems to be seafood so I'm looking forward to trying that on my next time here. read more

Visited from out of town and met my sisters here for lunch. There was plenty of parking at Bally's and a minute walk to the restaurant. We were seated right away, and our kind waitress Shamiya immediately came over to take our drink order and answer questions. We had the gator bites and boudine rolls for appetizers, and they were really good and had a nice flavorful sauce. For entrée I had the beans with sausage, and my daughter had the fried fish. The beans were a little overcooked but had good flavor, and there were plenty. My daughter really enjoyed the fish also. The restaurant was very clean inside and had a great atmosphere. It's a great location right outside of Ballys and near the sci-port center. Service was a little slow upon entering and getting sat but the waitress had a friendly attitude and was basically the only one servicing all the tables. Our table ordered the shrimp Alfredo, crawfish étouffée, hamburger steak, gator bites and my grilled oyster plate. I hate to say it but everything everybody else ordered was great. I guess I had envisioned my grilled oysters being the garlic buttery type, however they were far from that. I think sautéed with onion and peppers and Nobody liked it. I'll never order that again or recommend it. We were in a rush to eat to get to the parade so I didn't complain and ate my sides. I hope this area including all the restaurants do well because it seemed to be pretty dead. The boardwalk nearby has no stores anymore. First time at Cassandra the food and service was a 10/10. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very elegant and very clean. The only thing was some items on the menu were very expensive for the size of the portion you received with the dish. They had a live band and played great music. I was in Shreveport with my wife this weekend for her organizations conference and we were looking for a nice restaurant to have dinner as I wanted really good catfish. Made a call around 7:30pm to ask if reservations were required and was told no, first come first serve. We arrived roughly 8:30pm and upon approaching the hostess desk I was informed to give them a moment as they were about to change over and there would then be a cover charge. Now, I just called an hour ago asking about reservations and this could have been mentioned. For a restaurant with a 3.5 out of 5 stars rating that automatically charges an 18% gratuity for anywhere from 1 person up plus tax this is ridiculous. Have you read your own reviews???? When they are equally as bad as they are good you need to fix something and a cover charge and automatically billed gratuity is not the place. How about start with your staff's communication and redress your billing practices. Just my thoughts. With that, those wanting to give it a go I found great catfish at The Port Seafood and Oyster Bar. The Price was great also. read more

Went last night the ambience was nice. The service was good. The food was OK.for the price of the entrées. I definitely feel like the portion size did not match. I ordered fish and shrimp. I literally received half of a fillet split in half which made of two pieces of fish that's highway robbery for almost 30 bucks. The fries I could tell were the bottom of the bag because the pieces were broken like the end of a fry bag would be. my drink which was a lemon drop martini was pleasantly delicious so the bartender got it right I wouldn't say that I would come back and patronize however I wouldn't not recommend this place read more

Enjoyed a lunch at Cassandra's on Thursday Oct 10th . 1st approached the hostess desk and was greeted and welcomed they were all very nice and made us all feel welcomed ! The restaurant itself by appearance very clean and also a major plus went to the restroom ,one of the cleanest restrooms in a restaurant I have ever seen as we all knows that speaks VOLUMES. Next headed over to the bar area with a view of the Aquarium and Rosy our amazing waitress introduced herself . Rosy was the absolute best the entire time providing options and a complete natural with so much personality ! Ok on to the most important part the food that all 3 of us had we thought was the most flavorful food ever, we felt it was downhome southern food . I had the crabcake salad absolutely delicious and my mom had the grilled shrimp with mashed potatoes and she loved every bit of it also we had the fried green tomatoes presentation was outstanding on all dishes .
