This was my first visit to this location. When I walked in, I was greeted by a young man who was very polite, which I appreciated. I ordered the Biscoff waffle and the Strawberry Specialty waffle. When my order arrived, the presentation was quite pleasant; however, the experience quickly went downhill. The waffles were cold and very hard to cut. The texture was not what I expect from a fresh waffle. I usually visit the SouthPark location (if it's still open), and this experience did not compare. I was able to eat the Biscoff waffle, but the Strawberry Specialty waffle was so bad that I ended up throwing it away. Unfortunately, based on this visit, I will not be returning. read more

No real organization or leadership here, the food is amazing and the drinks are hit or miss. The staff is friendly just not organized. Best example is today went in for breakfast and ordered coffee and a chai latte. Got the coffee out but the lid wasn't secured so it spilled out. Then my next drink didn't come out till asked about due to the entire staff being star struck by a man that came in for his waffle and coffee. Then when I got my drink it was the wrong size. I was hoping for this place to be the best place ever but it just wasn't what we hoped. First the waffles were not fresh. It was pulled out of a plexiglass cabinet and warmed. The waffle was a bit cold and dry. We ordered 2 waffles the cinnamon roll and the bacon. Cinnamon roll was just a lot of brown sugar and very little frosting. When I think of a cinnamon roll it's all icing and that's what makes it awesome. So mine was dry. The bacon was okay. Service was nothing to write about. Nothing over the top not too friendly. I had the Cinnamon Roll Waffle (Belgian waffle topped with vanilla buttercream and brown sugar/cinnamon mix, $5.75), which is one of their specialty waffles. It was incredibly fluffy, moist, sweet, and full of deliciousness. It did feel like being served from a food truck when it arrived in a small paper container rather than a plate (and the prices resemble that of a food truck too). Don't expect the whole restaurant experience - you order at the front, seat yourself, your food is brought to your table, and then you clean after yourself. Hidden gem tucked into Marvin rd, Cast Iron waffles provides decadent gourmet waffles from friendly staff in a quiet neighborhood, with ample seating inside and out. These waffles are delicious and on the sweet side in most variations, so I paired a lumberjack which has a savory salty flavor thanks to the bacon with a coffee without any cream to balance it out. I tried the deluxe waffle as well and for me, it was a bit too sweet but I had no complaints from the family. The smoothies are also great, though a bit sugary. There are plenty of items, but given the nature your basically eating doughnuts for breakfast. I had one waffle and finished the second half of another that my child didn't want, and I'll say that was too much sugar for me. In the future I'll split a waffle and only have half. I walked around the peaceful neighborhood to burn off some extra energy. While anyone could easily eat an entire waffle alone, I'd be hard pressed to recommend it. Splitting one with a friend is definitely the way to go. There's plenty of seating inside and out, lined along the window so you get a sunny view, outside there are two nooks with tables that will keep you out of the wind and in full view of the sun, so even on a cold day you can enjoy the outdoors comfortably. The area is quiet and though the road is nearby the traffic is not noticeable. Overall it's a great area. Being in a neighborhood the parking in front is slim, but there is a parking lot across the road. Part of it is open parking and park has signs for towing, I didn't risk it (even on a Sunday) and figure it's best not to tempt, so pay attention to the signage. I loved visiting this small local business and will definitely be returning here regularly as a family treat. read more

We stopped here for a quick breakfast after visiting friends in Charlotte and it was awesome. From the minute we walked in, it was such a welcoming and pleasant experience. The food was great- we had the naked waffles with powdered sugar (didn't need any extra syrup. It was soft and crisp in all the right places and it tasted like there was some caramelization on certain places on the waffle) and the lemon blueberry waffle (the whipped cream, blueberries, custard? So so delicious). There was an issue with our drinks, but they resolved it quickly and didn't make us feel bad about it. The best waffle I've had in Charlotte, no 'maybe' or 'probably' needed, just a freaky good waffle! I normally trek the North side of the QC but today I had a co-worker in need of help in Ballantyne. Afterwards, both starving and half-lost, I decided to fire up the ol' Yelp Search for a quick bite to eat. Thus, here I find myself at Cast Iron! Its a cute, warm coffee bar that serves waffles, waffles, and more waffles. They have 'speciality' waffles, 'DELUXE' waffles, plain waffles, and even frozen waffles to take home. How could they be any better than your average hotel continental breakfast? These are Liege-Style Belgian waffles. Made with more of a dough than a batter, and mixed with a coarse sugar that contributes to the unique texture, these are a true delight if you've never had one. You're probably going to think that the waffle is small at first, but I'd say that one Liege waffle is equivalent to 2 regular ones. Today I got the berries & cream waffle that's Topped with strawberries, blueberries, and fresh whipped cream. First off the waffle, somehow chewy and airy at the same time. Just the right amount of bite and the coarse sugar I mentioned gives the denser body a nice contrast. They don't sweeten the whipped cream (or if they do it's very little) which works great with the sweeter waffle, and of course the fruit contributes to the sugar content anyway. It was just a splendid and filling breakfast in such a compact dish! Their iced coffee is great as well. I'm starting to get more and more accustomed to no sugar with my coffee and their custom blend is perfect for this. I did add a splash of half and half only to cut the sharper notes a bit, but I would drink it black if offered! A bit surprised that they don't have bacon or eggs here, but as I said, the waffle alone is very filling. I still think it would make a good addition for a more complete breakfast destination. The staff is pleasant and know their menu very well, as I heard them patiently explaining the menu to another customer who was undecided. After reading all the reviews on Yelp of how good this place was I felt like I could not leave Charlotte without giving these waffles a try. They were good, but not the best waffle ever! I had a deluxe waffle with my son, by daughter had one with just nutella on it and my husband had a special called the lumberjack which had bacon on it. First they need to update their online menu.
