Come here for breakfast!! The dinner is fine for the price, but nothing to write home about. We've been here three times at this point this summer. It's great! We always get the early bird special (7 am - 9 am). You won't find a better deal than that on the island. The food is filling and delicious. Both the pancakes and French toast are delicious. It's quite busy before 9 am, too. The staff is different for the dinner shift and the breakfast shift. Both groups are wonderful. There's also plenty of parking on site. We ordered dinner from here recently. I ordered the Seafood combo entree. It included a choice of soup (I chose Manhattan clam chowder) or soup, 2 side options (I chose coleslaw and macaroni and cheese). The food was well packaged. The sides were delicious and filling. This was the first time I tried Manhattan clam chowder. Barely any clams, plenty of vegetables, and good tomato broth. It was still pretty good. The coleslaw and macaroni and cheese were plentiful. The seafood combo - shrimp was good, scallops were pretty good, flounder was fine. The crab cake could've been a bit better. It was mushy and somewhat salty. Would I come here again? Of course! stopped in on our way home from the cape may ferry for a late lunch/early dinner. service took a few minutes longer than anticipated since there were not too many tables full at the time, but i had my patient pants on so that was not really too bad? the food however was just meh. chicken caesar wrap was fine, literally just unseasoned chicken, dressing, and lettuce. fried shrimp sandwich had no little aioli or mayo or anything so it was pretty dry and also just like fine? nothing really to write home about. tbh wish we had gotten breakfast for dinner or something from here instead bc the reviews are saying the breakfast is where its at, so hope the best for this business but not sure if we will return. read more

Came in late last night for our mini weekend trip and to our surprise the restaurant said they close at 8pm but allowed us to come in to eat. We showed up @730pm. Staff were friendly like always and the server did a great job getting refills and bringing us utensils and things we needed. My party of 4 got a mix of different items. I opted for the blt with fries, my sister got the crab cake sandwich with fries and my daughter got a cheese steak with fries. We ended up getting a slice of carrot cake and cheese cake. We used to visit Castaway Cafe regularly when prices were better but, like most fixed income retirees nowadays, we aren't dining out as much. Major cutbacks and restaurants are at the top of the cutback list. Prices everywhere have gotten overwhelming. No wonder restaurants are closing in record numbers. read more

We loved our breakfast at Castaway! The early bird special is an incredible deal - two adults and a hungry toddler ate for less than $20! The special includes 2 eggs, 2 pancakes or French toast, a meat, and potatoes or tater tots - plus coffee! It was a ton of food and all really hit the spot. We also shared a large bowl of fruit - and it was actually the good stuff (fresh strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, grapes and banana) - normally I feel like people skimp on the fruit and give half melon rinds...not Castaway. The service was excellent and they had a decent crowd at 730 on a Saturday that was growing by the time we left. Highly recommend for a good, hearty and affordable breakfast ! read more

Was looking for some breakfast before hopping on the ferry to Lewes and saw the good reviews and stopped in for breakfast to fuel up for some biking. When I walked in, I was welcomed by staff members and was quickly seated. Shortly thereafter, was sipping on a much needed cup of coffee. Did not want anything to heavy and was happy to see Monday's breakfast special which was 1 pancake, 1 breakfast meat, 1 egg, home fries, and coffee for only $4.99. The meal was decent and you could not beat the price anywhere. After placing the order, food came out pretty quick and was as described. Definitely joined the clean plate club and was the perfect portion for what I was looking for. All in all, a great fins that I will be sure to visit again. While I did not take advantage of the coffee refills, they did attempt to top of my coffee which is always a sign of good service. Been here a few times now and each time the meals have blown me away. Castaway is a very well run place from top to bottom. Each time we've visited here the place has been packed, but it never seems to affect the service. Everything still runs as it should even when the restaurant is full. Their menu is pretty big serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and desserts. They have all of your American diner staples so it shouldn't be too tough to find something good. The menu might seem simple but everything is a lot better than you would expect. My favorite dishes so far have been the Prime Rib and the Chicken Cordon Bleu. Most recently I've had that Prime Rib and that piece of meat was cooked just the way it was requested, was super tender, and tasted amazing. Your money goes pretty far here too. The menu prices are very reasonable with very good portion sizes, even for a big boy like myself. I don't really have any criticisms of the place and would definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the area. read more

Returned for dinner last night. I usually have breakfast here. We were early around 4 pm. Actually we both had the chopped sirloin with gravy . I had my gravy on the side with mashed potatoes. My sister had a double helping of the mashed potatoes, no greens for her! medium for both sirloins and done perfectly. My salad was crisp just right. My sisters bean soup look just like our mothers. It was very good. Took half home and packed our dessert to go too. Had my bread pudding later with whipped cream and some Grand Marnier . Good food , very kind server. Will be back ! read more

Arrived at 5:30 and it was not crowded. Plenty of staff. Was seated and given beverages. Noticed my server was on the phone taking a long extensive order. I waited over 10-15 minutes while she finished and other staff stood around. When she got off the phone, she yelled I'll be with you in a second but rather than waiting on me ( or asking someone else) she disappeared again to put the phone order in the computer. After another 5 minutes I got up and left. I Saw her on the way out and told her I was leaving. She seemed surprised and told me she was still entering the order in the computer. After receiving suggestions to go to Castaway Cafe, we decided to give breakfast a try and very much enjoyed it! Our timing was perfect as a rush coming in as we were leaving around 11:00am on a Sunday. Our waitress Maryanne was a doll, giving recommendations for a return dinner trip and ensuring we enjoyed our meals. I had the crab Omlette which was the perfect balance of crab, old bay, cheese and egg. As someone who loves condiments and sauce it would have been even more enjoyable with a creamy sauce on top. The homemade home fries we're delicious and the portion was perfect at a reasonable price point. Others at the table enjoyed the sausage and gravy biscuits, stuffed french toast, and build your own breakfast sandwich. Definitely planning on heading back, perhaps for dinner next time! read more

We headed here for dinner later on a Monday night and we're pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and service. The service was top notch and super helpful with this being our first visit - thanks Kim! The food was better than expected and the portion size(as others have commented )are significant. We could have fed a family of 4 on the shrimp scampi alone! Soup and salad starters were great, plus warm rolls. Not sure if the soup is made on site, but was very good. Appreciated that we could get one of the soups to go. We also had chicken parmigiana and fried shrimp which were very good. All the sides were generous and did not disappoint. We tried the mac n cheese, hand cut fries, mashed potatoes and Cole slaw. All were really good. If I had one critique it would be more vegetable side options. They could already offer -we didn't think to ask, but it wasn't on the menu. The costs are more than reasonable for the portion size. We will be back for sure! read more

Also ordered the 4 pc fried chicken early bird and this was VERY dissapointing. Literally received a thigh and pieces of chicken wing (1 wingy drum and 2 wingy wings). Came here on a Thursday morning and, enjoyed one of their breakfast specials. Yummy pancakes and sausage with coffee. All for $5.99, can't beat that with a stick! Three big pancakes and two juicy sausages. I asked for well done meat and, they were made just the way I like them. My belly was filled and very happy. I waddled out of the restaurant with a full belly! The waitress was friendly and, we never needed to ask for coffee refills. My partner in crime ordered an omelette with crab meat and home fries. This too was delicious. We will be coming back for sure! The price we paid was a surprise too. Has became my new go to place ! Castaways never disappoints . They have been warm and welcoming anytime that I've been there . Excellent customer service . It has a homey vibe , not a touristy vibe . A waitress quickly greets you & takes your order , if you're ready . There isn't a long wait for your food which comes out fresh and warm . The music blends nicely and isn't over bearing . The decor is beachy, cozy . They have 2 fair sized rooms . You're not cramped into a small room . I've read many good reviews about this place so I thought I'd give it a try . They didn't disappoint . There is also plenty of free parking . I have to smile inside each time I go there . It has become my new favorite local restaurant . Enjoy ! read more
