My wife and I stopped here over the weekend, Saturday night, and had a lousy experience. I am going to be brief: Pros: Server was pleasant and tried really hard. Beer was cold and reasonably priced. Cons: Restaurant was a mess, salad was ice berg lettuce with white onions, bread was cold, spaghetti was mediocre, at best. Will we return? Not hardly! The steak and cheese was mediocre the reason I'm giving them a one star because there's no opportunity to give a zero star or negative star it's difficult to find a good Italian place in a small town but when you don't follow simple instructions such as "please toast my bread well done before you put the sandwich together" doesn't register in your head, you really need to change jobs. The service was good but the food was very bad. We ordered pizza and we couldn't even eat it because it was so chewy.

So here's the truth, we eat here a lot. Why? Because I can order online and I don't have to call or we'd just order italian touch. The food is not consistent rarely, it's really good but mostly, it's simply mediocre. The wings lol I'm just lazy, I could microwave frozen wings and throw them out for dinner and they'd be the same exact thing and I'd actually have dressing on the side as requested, which I've never gotten from here. The sandwiches, eww and I've ordered dinners only to be tremendous disappointed. I've not written this review because I was willing to settle just so I could have delivery but never again. If you don't mind non traditional Italian food, made with canned vegetables and untrained staff then you may not be disappointed. Waiters are very nice but untrained. Environment is fair, prices are ok. FOOD, no love, no passion in it what so ever. Canned vegetables and sauce most likely. Had a very horrible experience here today I don't even want to rate this place one star. My mother got a salad only lettuce and tomatoes when she got to the bottom of the salad there was a crumpled up used napkin. We immediately alerted the server who came over and apologized and offered 10 percent with no manager. After we had to ask for a manager, he finally came out and said that there was no way that it could be possible as it was straight from a bag and then blamed the distributor and then said he would never serve anything like that. I called him out as he did serve that to my mother and he got angry and yelled at us and then ran off to the back. Never coming here again, one time lasagna had grey cheese I thought this place was better but what a health hazard they need a the health inspector to come investigate. I love this place. They can cook some food and a wide arrange of food but I ordered tonight on a night with no power. Met the driver at the bottom of the driveway. And the order was incomplete. Called the store, they didn't seem to care. I told them don't bother and they were fine with agreeing to that. To me that is not acceptable. We stopped by here for a quick lunch and omgosh everything was amazing!! We had the best service with the sweetest waitress. Service was absolutely prompt, and the food, wow. The Philly cheesesteak pizza was so on point, the cheesiest, most perfect pizza I've ever had and I'm usually going for the plain slice or a Hawaiian. Portions are also huge here and everything is well priced. I'd come here all the time if I lived nearby! read more

Not bad. I bought a large 16" Cheese pizza and was not disappointed nor was I over impressed but somewhere in the middle :) the cheese seems to be quality mozz cheese (Grande?) and not mixed with cheddar like some places do. It is semi NYC style foldable pizza and the cheese juices drip off onto my shirt just how I like it!!! I realized I had had this pizza before at their Strasburg,VA location and this pizza was made just a little bit better than I remembered at the other location. Overall it is not bad and the price is reasonably low at $10.99 for a 16" Cheese and I think a small 10" is only 6.00 and some change. Which is wayyyyy better than getting a cardboard ready made Little Caesars pizza for basically the same price! Probably one of the better pizzas in this area. read more

Decided to try this location because of the reviews and that it was "real authentic Italian". Yeah, No! Sorry. I was a bit disappointed. The bruschetta was served on Texas Toast and had a half melted slice of mozzarella cheese on it. The salad was good (but really, how bad can you mess up salad?). I ordered the spaghetti. Blah. Sauce wasn't great, while portions were in pure abundance it just wasn't good. This was not authentic Italian. The garlic bread was stale and sorry to say, if I bought Garlic Bread from the freezer section, would have been a lot better than what they offered. Don't think I'll be going back while here. EDIT: Tried the pizza because friends said I should. I will admit, pizza is very good!! Even made it 3stars. read more

The most recent encounter with the restaurant was horrible. When I moved to the area a few years ago I was the biggest supporter of the restaurant. The food was great and so was the restaurant until this year. I came to the restaurant a few times this year and was not pleased with the food or cleanliness of the restaurant. My very last time here was in July 2014 I came to have dinner with my 7 yo son. From the minute we walked in we were bombarded by flies we sat down more flies. We sat in a booth next to the wall second from the window and when we looked up on the ceiling in the light fixture was about 30 dead flies. It was so gross. It took about 10 mins for someone to take our drink order. While we waited for drinks we were batting flies from our faces. The whole time we waited for our food more and more flies. Eventually I had enough and said to the waitress that I want my check we are leaving and I didn't want my food bc flies landed in it more then a dozen times. The waitress said that the restaurant sprays for flies every night without even apologizing for our awful experience. Well the spraying wasn't enough obviously. I then left vow to never return. read more

We stumbled into Castiglia's after the other Italian restaurant nearby was found to be closed. Because my fiance and I were both hungry and tired, this place became our plan B. After eating here, I wish we had tried plan C. They brought me out the wrong entree, and when they did bring the correct one, the chicken in my chicken amalfi was a sliced up, deep fried chicken patty with sauce on it. The pasta and sauce left a odd aftertaste in my mouth. Leanes dish was a bit better, but not by much. We both ate what we were served due to the hunger pains we were experiencing, however given a bit more planning, I would not stop here again. To be fair, the place was full when we entered, and most people appeared to be eating pizza, so that may be their strong dish because it certainly was not their pasta dishes. read more

Nothing fancy, just a good pizza/sub/pasta restaurant. If you want gourmet, go somewhere else. We visited while on a hiking vacation in the area and enjoyed it so much, we came back. We had pizza and eggplant parm. And a side order of meatballs (3 tennis ball sized w/marinara). Large portions that tasted great. No wonder why they were full both week nights we visited! read more

Hits the spot every time!! My husband & I usually eat here at least 1 sometimes 2x a month. The staff is fast and friendly and the food is delicious. The pizza is much better than the chain restaurants no matter what toppings you get. I also highly recommend the steak & cheese. As many of you have seen from my previous reviews, I'm pretty harsh. I love my Budweiser and being able to smoke in restaurants. Castiglia's is one of those interesting shopping center restaurants, nestled between a Big Lots discount store and a Goodwill store. That should tell you the clientele and the ambiance of the place. In fact, we were at Big Lots and needed food. I saw the gaudy neon signs when we pulled in and suggested we give it a try. We wanted to look at the menu first, but they had it posted in the foyer, which was pretty dark, so we had to go inside. The decor was typical Americanized Italian. Murals of gondolas, Rome, etc on the walls, wicker wrapped wine bottles on the tables, as well as the standard red/white checked plastic table cloths. We sat down and Jennifer, the waitress, was by our side. She was friendly and very helpful, suggesting various items (and giving us insider tips) on the menu. We ordered two Budweisers and jalapeno poppers to start. The beer was fresh and cold. The poppers weren't so good, but better than some places. A bit over done and the jalapeno inside were tough, which made it difficult to bite through. As one reviewer said, the menu featured over 100 items, but to be fair, quite a few of them were variations on the same thing. For example, they had manicotti, but they also had three or four variations of manicotti. The same with a lot of the menu. Everything looked good on paper, but we decided on their medium supreme pizza...and two more Buds. The pizza was almost perfect. The crust was NY style, sort of. I grew up in New York and know pizza. This was just a bit thicker than true NY style, but it was fresh dough and had a good crispy texture on the bottom. The vegetables obviously had been sitting for the day and were a bit wilted, but the sauce, cheese, peperoni and sliced sausage were just right. Jennifer was attentive (following the 3-5-7 rule...ask if you don't know what that is) and took care of us very well. While it's not our new favorite place, it's on our list of places to stop at...after Big Lots. ;-) read more

Eh. The eggplant parm was ok - but I am not entirely sure it wasn't frozen. The filling in my stuffed shells was good, but not great. The overall problem was the sauce. It had no actual tomatoes in it, and looked oily ... not olive oily, just oily. Perhaps out of a jar. It served the purpose of providing me with pasta, but just barely. read more

I haven't eaten here in years, but last night we stopped in for a pitcher of beer (which equalled to about 5 glasses for only $7 of premium beer). So prices started off good to begin with. We both ordered an Italian sub (cant remember the exact name of it). He ordered his hot, I ordered mine cold and it was delicious and huge. The sub was stuffed with so much meat and cheese I had an entire meal left over for lunch (which I just polished off). Ordered a side of fries with his meal which we both ended up sharing and still had some left over. I can't advise on any other items here since it has been so long, but the subs are definitely on point. read more

While out doing some last minute Christmas shopping at Big Lots (yes we still refer to the holiday as Christmas here in the Shen Valley), we decided to grab a quick bite to eat at Castigila's in Front Royal, which was next door. The wait staff was excellent, fast service with a smile, and our server frequently checked that we were satisfied. The menu had many selections, on par with most Mom and Pop Italian/Greek places you see around the Northern Va area. We decided on a Cheese steak for lunch with french fries, and an unsweetened tea. The food was ready in a reasonable period of time, arrived piping hot, and all ingredients were fresh. This is our second time dining at Castiglia's, our previous visit was carry out pizza, that just was not very good. However, this time the food was fairly good and we will probably visit again. The decor could use some updating. It is somewhat dated and the ceiling tiles had many unsightly stains from what appeared to be old roofing leaks. Of course it does come down to the food, and I would rate my experience as a positive. read more

Food is wonderful, the steak and cheeses and hot ham and cheeses are awesome. However, the service is sometimes a hit and miss. Sometimes we will go in there and it will be fairly busy and we will still have awesome service, other times it's the opposite. Empty restaurant, bad service. Just depends. Last time my husband and I stoped in and ate our waiter wasn't the best. Took forever to get our salads and then he brought my husbands food and 15 minutes later mine. I would not recommend this place if you're under a time crunch, however the food is worth the wait. read more
