Four years ago I was terrified when my mom told me I was going to get braces because everywhere I went they told me I was going to need to lose four teeth.

Let's hope it won't take another 4wks for another callback, yikes. It's been 1 month of me calling twice a week, emailing once, one *in-person* plea with hand-delivered letter, and twice a week phone pleas with the staff: I have urgent questions that affect [the existence of]my treatment plan going forward & am in proven emergency pain (ER x4/5wks), I kept telling the staff this and today I find out... they never told the Dr I called nor why: that he has a patient with time sensitive urgent questions from this past month who explained why he needs to call back asap each time she talks with staff, etc. he was finally just told today "someone has treatment questions, non-urgent." Trust: tanked, heart: broken. I literally told them I'd lost a tooth while waiting the last week alone, just to find out the doctor was surprised that apparently I had some questions about treatment if I ever had suicidal ideations, it would be after hearing this. Bc of course I also missed his call somehow & he called back after-hours, cheerily saying I should call back if I still had questions let's call it 3 weeks bc of course he was on vacation last week, but what professional office takes this long to respond to something marked urgent with the doctor not being told, I even said why it's urgent, how I was afraid of not getting help, how certain treatment details might derail the whole thing, the plan needs to be changed , etc etc. so there's nothing forgivable here that I see. I made it so simple at the end I turned it into two easy questions he could've answered in a VM. I thought he just was bad at getting back to me. I was so respectful too, you know how hard it was to only call twice a week cheerfully asking to be called back about time-sensitive information, knowing whatever they said over the phone, you'd probably have to call next week too as per habit? Sucks So yeah, urgent questions still unanswered from May 18. Let yall know if that ever changes or if they'll explain/admit which would give me closure, mostly tho I just need the surgeon to know to update things immediately that would affect my insurance like the fact they couldn't even tell him THAT part. Rude is an understatement lol, I'll have to go there in-person tomorrow just to get service and it takes me two buses to get there. Also did they not think I would notice. I can't eat solids since May 18th & this negligence has been really traumatic. I was in so much pain I couldn't sit down for weeks. And I keep saying that so to know that didn't move them enough to pass along my email, letter, messages, even today I gave a quick urgent reminder for them to say to him so he could've even answered it in a VM. So to know nothing I said moved anyone when I'm on the verge of tears half the time, like there's level ten pain then there's tooth pain, ammiright?

I got in the next day for a visit, and was booked for treatment immediately. The staff is wonderful, the "quote" is clear and exactly that, an estimate of what my insurance will cover. The staff is a well oiled machine and work very well together. I met Dr. Yen, and he was extremely personable and caring. I did not feel rushed. I had treatment done under general anesthesia at my request, and was at ease leaving the appointment. Then I made the mistake of going on Tiktok and Instagram watching videos of aftercare and got really nervous. I almost cancelled but I am glad I didn't. When I returned for treatment, I did wait a bit long in the waiting room but Dr. Yen explained that when he entered the room, and the treatment staff was so kind and caring. I was clearly nervous and they really helped me get through it, I woke up with no issues or discomfort. I had the treatment 3 days ago, I have had ZERO pain. Slightly sore around my jaw, no swelling or bruising. I am so happy with my results so far, I will tell everyone about my wonderful experience.

That said the entire billing experience is very shady and misleading. In the initial consultation, I was informed that they have a contract with my employer and a discount(~85%?) and they provided me an estimate accordingly. Please do not fall for this, if they tell you this. Do your research, find out if they are in-network and definitely contact your insurance before you start treatment. Post treatment billing has been a nightmare. Their ledger kept adjusting. Earlier, they mentioned that the pending bill was a certain amount ( which is less than the yearly maximum that the insurance can cover). Once insurance mailed them a check for the yearly maximum, suddenly I see magical adjustment and I suddenly get a magic number added to my bill which I now owe. I ended up owing double the earlier estimate. If you are not concerned about medical/dental bills but just need a good oral surgeon, this is still a very good place. However, if billing/surprise expenses is a concern, please be very cautious *BEFORE* treatment. There are also lots of other options in the bay. I would suggest looking around.

I was greeted immediately and helped by the front desk staff. I was then walked back to my exam/operating room, which appeared clean and simple with calming music playing. Someone briefed me on post-operative care and took care of the billing/insurance right from my chair. I then met Dr. Lim. She was very nice and made me feel at ease about the procedure. The IV catheter placement was fast and painless. I was sedated with IV anesthesia as well as local anesthesia. Before I knew it, I was awake. The procedure took no more than 45 minutes. The staff called my partner to pick me up as soon as I was awake. I had such a great experience here! Dr. Lim and all her staff were so great. As a side note, they have you fill out a patient exam form before your procedure. This saved so much time the actual day of procedure. And, it's paperless!

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST-- especially Dr. Eligio Arsenio…read more I had a deeply troubling experience at South Bay Dental Center. In April, Dr. Eligio Arsenio performed a dental filling without informing me of any risks or offering post-treatment guidance. I received no follow-up care, no consent documents, and no warnings about potential complications. By May, I began experiencing pain, which I initially thought was due to wisdom teeth. I had all four removed -- but the pain persisted. Eventually, an oral surgeon diagnosed swelling and bone inflammation caused by the improper filling. He strongly advised me to have the filling corrected and confirmed it likely caused the issue. I later had to undergo osseous surgery and now require a root canal -- all of which could have been avoided with proper care. I've contacted the clinic multiple times over the past few weeks to request my medical records and raise my concerns. To this day, they have not responded. As a patient, I have a legal right to access my own records, and their refusal to even acknowledge my request is unacceptable and unprofessional. This experience has cost me not only money but also months of pain and anxiety. I am now filing formal complaints with the California Dental Board and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Office for Civil Rights for violation of patient rights. I hope this review helps prevent others from going through the same.

During my appointments it is always a smooth process and they make me feel comfortable in the chair. What I don't appreciate is the lack of quality service from the front desk and lack of professional, prompt, communication. I don't know what their issue is but everytime I call to schedule an appointment there is always an issue about my appointment "not being confirmed" or "not scheduled" even though I had called and spoke with someone over the phone to schedule and confirm my appointments literally 2 days before. This has happened several times and truly affects the experience and service that this place provides, making me feel undervalued as a client. I've shown up here having scheduled and confirmed the appointment the week before yet I show up and they tell me my appointment is on the schedule but wasn't confirmed at the dentist isn't here yet. ??????????? How does that make any sense I confirmed the appointment when I scheduled it last week. It disrupts my schedule and routine and wastes my time truthfully They lack appropriate customer service and follow up communication. There needs to be a better system in place for appointments because I do love the work that the dentists do here. It's a shame the front desk doesn't resemble the same care, it seems very unorganized.
