Awesome drink specials (can you say $5 redbull vodka? no, then how about $5 for a beer and shot daily?) along with the shot wheel will certainly get you started off on the right foot! Interested in staying a while longer? That is fine too as their bartenders know how to take care of you, just make sure you remember to take care of them. I've never been charged a cover and don't think I'm special enough for them to be waiving one for me. So there is no reason not check it out on your next trip to the 'yunk! read more

Classic Manayunk establishment. Just a tad off of Main Street all the way at the end on Shurs ave. I'm guessing this place mainly caters to the college crowd after all it was a place frequented when I was in college almost full decade ago now. They have descent specials from time to time and I'm not sure if it is a perennial thing but they had a shot wheel there where you paid a designated amount and got the the shot it landed on. Can't get served anywhere else because you are beyond fucked up? This is the place to go! The beer is served in plastic cups for a reason... It's not a bad place, just a place that knows it's clientele. It's also cheap as hell. So, hey, take advantage of the $5 shot and a beer deal they seem to run every day. It's any draft beer plus any shot. Of course, they don't stock anything that's not cheap shit, but it sounds good! Overall, this is your typical college bar. One of the people in the group need to go home and fell on his way out the staff brought him some ice which I thought was super nice. I don't understand how this place stays in business. I have been here twice and the place has been filthy. The floors are sticky with old beer, the bartenders are half dressed and look like they are on drugs, and the food looks awful. I tried to give it a second chance but when I walked in I saw a few kids who were clearly underage, and decided that was it for me. A little off the beaten track, but definitely worth it for the lack of cover charge at night. The draft list is a little limited but was definitely a step or two above just serving Miller and Coors, thank goodness. I believe I saw Goose Island, so I was heartened by the presence of small breweries alongside Yuengling and Guinness. I was initially a little put off by the ridiculous guy to girl ratio, because it made it seem much more like a stodgy sports bar, but as the night wore on, more females started to arrive, so it evened out a bit. This establishment is dark and very loud due to the little dance floor that's up half a level from the entrance. Will likely return because it's a little smaller and less crowded than other Manayunk joints, and because of the good Saturday night specials ($5 shot and beer, discounted apps, etc). read more

First time at this bar we roll up with about 10 people around 7:00 and head straight to the bar to start drinking. My friend raved about how great this place was so we were hype to check it out. Someone asks the bartender for an LIT, pretty popular drink I'd say, and the guy just kind of stares into space. It took him almost 10 minutes to admit he had no idea what an LIT was so the person who ordered it gave up and ordered a beer. Then I notice a sign for $5 vodka house special drinks, so assuming the bartender knew what their house drinks were made up of, I order a Manayunk Cherry... surprise, the bartender had NO IDEA what was in the drink and had to go look at the poster hanging on the wall. Now the drink was pretty simple and spelled out for him and he still didn't make it correctly. It tasted awful and there was maybe a half of a shot of vodka in it, but it was only $5 so I tried to suck it down and get over it. Next, my friend saw they had $10 rum buckets, what a steal!... so she orders a coconut rum bucket... now get ready for this one; the bartender gets ice in the bucket, looks around like a lost puppy and then asks her, "so you want just Coke and rum?" Honest mistake I guess, maybe he hear "rum and Coke bucket" instead of "coconut rum bucket"?? She ended up saying never mind and orders the drink I got. To all of our surprise, she gets handed a drink HALF the size of mine. Now he claims he messed up with my drink and gave me a bigger cup, but you'd think he'd give her the same size as mine, explain he made a mistake and would just make them correctly next time. Nope. She paid the same price for half the drink I received. I honestly started ordering beer instead because I felt like it was more hassle free. Then we all got hungry. 6 of us ordered burger and fries special for $5. Again such a great price, and most of their food is cheaper than most bars so we were excited. I order a burger for myself and one other person, ask for them both a medium temperature --and I watched him push the buttons on the computer to make sure I would get my food cooked correctly. After taking almost 20 minutes, I get two burgers extremely well done. One of the other 6 ordered his burger RARE, and also gets a very over cooked burger. Not sure how someone can mess up that bad. The burgers seemed to be precooked and then refrozen because there was points in the 6 bites I took that had pieces of something hard in the burger. I didn't even make it half way through before throwing it out. Now I stilled tipped well on the food and the drinks because maybe the staff was having a bad day or it was one of their first times working--who knows. I'm in the bar / restaurant business so I get it. But unsurprising to me, I end the night with food poisoning... I didn't drink enough to make myself sick, because after that burger I stuck to mostly water because my stomach wasn't feeling great almost immediately after eating, but I didn't expect to be up until 6:30 in the morning running in and out of the bathroom (mind you I left the bar around 9 and got home around 11:30 when the food poisoning kicked in. For sure never returning to this bar again--one miserable experience was more than enough for me. read more

Came to manayunk to visit my friend from college last Sunday.. I live in NYC and have a New Jersey license (where I am originally from) and when I got carded at the door the bouncer asked me my phone number which has a nyc area code and he said "have fun somewhere else" and wouldn't let me in and was unnecessarily rude about it. Came all the way to philly from New York to get denied entry for no reason- mind you I'm 26. Never coming back to this bar. I love Roxx. My boyfriend and I frequent here every weekend for the cheap drinks and the bartenders. The food is decent. Typical bar food. $5 double energydrink/vodka on the weekends and $5 shot and a beer from 10-12 on the weekends. Shot wheel is great too. read more

Castle Roxx is an awesome spot to bring a few friends. The chix are always mediocre which helps for a beer goggles night, not for the morning after. Stayed about 100 yards away from this fantastic bar in June 2016 for 5 days. Had to go in the first evening as I couldn't gain access to the apartment I'd rented, Tim the boss man dropped everything to get me into the apartment ! in terms of bars, I guess its ok....it obviously does its job and gets people drunk. its a 2 level bar, with a dance floor on the first floor and a full bar on the 2nd...with stairs in between....I don't think the stairs are a great idea for the drunk people...since 9 times out of 10...they'll probably fall down the steps. the food kinda sucks...fries are too greasy...same with the steaks...chicken isn't always cooked fully. could be a great place, if they changed some stuff read more
