My partner, dog, and I stopped by for late lunch after a walk at the Wiss. We chose this spot because its dog friendly. Atmosphere is friendly and we enjoyed the outdoor space however, food and service were on the disappointing side. We ordered two wraps, fries, onion rings, and a side salad. The wraps were extremely underwhelming. Tortilla was dry and the salad/chicken in the wrap was undersauced. The side salad that came with one of the wraps was old. I could tell because the cucumber slices were DRY. How can a vegetable that's 95% water be dry lmao this is a salad that was made yesterday. Anyway on the plus side, the chicken in the wraps were well seasoned and juicy. Best thing we ordered was the onion rings. They were very crispy and deep fried. Also came with a delicious horseradish cream sauce. Unfortunately, I wouldn't return here. Other than the mostly lackluster food, service was also slow. And a couple small things were missed like incorrect salad dressing and a side of sauce that wasn't given. I had higher expectations and sadly this place fell short read more

I waited awhile to post this review since I didn't want our very sweet waitress to get in any trouble. TL:DR, vegetarians beware! On the menu they have little icons next to all the "vegetarian options" but something in my gut told me not to trust it. I saw they had a vegetarian caesar salad that they could make into a warp and I was planning on getting that. I asked the waitress to double check that the dressing did not have anchovies, which I never do, and guess what? She came back and told me that the kitchen said it does have anchovies! So it is NOT vegetarian! I got the veggie burger option, which was underwhelming and greasy. I even felt hesitant to eat it after learning they mislabeled the other vegetarian options. We won't be going back to this spot unfortunately. Hopefully they update the menu soon. Someone with a fish allergy might also see that it's labeled veg and think its safe for them! read more

My son moved to the area, so we walked to this Tavern. I can tell this will be a place we come back to! We sat outside and the atmosphere was perfect! Our server was attentive and had great suggestions! We had the Tavern Lemonade, espresso martini, and Prosecco- drinks were all excellent! ** get the sweet potato fries with sweet aoli, it tastes like dessert! If you live within walking distance of Hilltown, then you would give it 5 stars, because this neighborhood can be a culinary slog otherwise. The food is hearty and well-made for bar fare, and they can even dish up a salad that won't scare you. Excellent happy hour specials, Monday through Friday are pretty sweet. They make solid cocktails and have a great rotating set of craft beers, although someone REALLY likes Hazy IPAs. My wife and I have come here for YEARS and have always enjoyed it. Tonight, was the last night. After some drinks at the bar, the bartender didn't give me my card back. I let her know politely and she accused me of being drunk and to "check my pockets and wallet" because "she never EVER makes a mistake like that". After 15 minutes of argument and other patrons yelling at me because the bartender completely disregarded the fact that she was a moron, THEY FOUND THE CARD!!! It's magic! This place is great! The menu is solid and the food lives up to expectations! The staff was all very kind and helpful (I forget our waitress' name but she had curly hair that I believe was in braids at night on Friday, shoutout to her for being great). They hook you up with a large carafe of ice cold water which is great during the heat. There were a variety of seating options, indoor, outdoor, bar, tented area outside, really whatever you're feeling they have. The prices were definitely fair as well. Ok, where do I begin. I have eaten here many times...in the restaurant/bar area and outside and have gotten A LOT of take out. I think this is one of my favorite places to eat outside in the spring/summer/fall. Why? Because it's not on a busy street and the food is just good. And there is parking! There is no traffic you just sit outside and enjoy the amazing food. They have a covered tent if it's not the best weather and a huge patio. And the crowd is mostly local and low key. The menu isn't super extensive but they do good food. Service is always on par - whether you are a in big crowd or with small kids or just by yourself. So what have I had: - Hilltown Flatbread - when you get it - it doesn't seem like a lot but it is so yummy. The short rib and cheese on there in addition to the aioli -so good. -Fish Tacos - Yes - they are very meaty and so delicious. and normally I'm sorta iffy about the pickled cabbage but its a must here. -Chicken Fingers - absolute YES. They are fresh and juicy and not out of a freezer bag. When you have these - you never want any other chicken fingers from any other restaurant. and the kids menu has the same chicken fingers - just less of them (if you have kids). -Wings- not fatty, crispy and just how you want wings - meaty. -Hilltown Burger - I almost ALWAYS have someone order this when I go there if I don't order it myself. I just love it - juicy and delicious. -Crispy Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich - Again - you cannot wrong with this one. The chicken is just so so meaty and juicy. This is how you want a chicken sandwich to be. We also ALWAYS get this. -South Philly Fried Chicken Sandwich - Similar chicken to the above - just different toppings - while I prefer the above - with just the pickles/mayo/slaw - this is a runner up to that. -Black & Tan Fish & Chips- So much fish, so good, meaty and not greasy. This is great if you're craving fried fish. Also great during Lent. -Shepard's Pie - the only dish I'm not a super fan on. It's just ok. -Desserts - I've ordered the red velvet and oreo cake - once- probably won't do it again. They don't excel on their desserts like they do their food. Now I'll admit that at first I thought the poutine seemed a little pricey, but when it came (the short rib, cheese, and gravy) it was practically a meal for two people. A LOT of meat cooked super tender. I had the fish and chips and my wife had the southern chicken sandwich. Two more large meals. Fish was crispy and light, the chicken sandwich was a whole, huge chicken breast. I felt the breading on the chicken was a little bland, but my wife really enjoyed it. We are very happy to have moved in just down the street from this place. Consistently good food, great rotating list of drafts, spacious outdoor seating. A few small requests to the owners: #1 and most importantly, please find a way to use glassware. In 2022, it's gross to be serving in disposable plastic. Bar glassware is cheap, a Hobart dishwasher costs a few thousand $, and you're done. Or just get a big enough washing sink. #2: The jukebox. Yes, it's cool technology to have every song ever recorded digitally on-tap, but this misses the point of a bar jukebox. Your place is supposed to have a personality. A point of view. Find a way to curate the selection, and your guests will have a more genuine experience. #3: I hesitate to mention it, for fear of retaliation from ... everyone. But would you consider a tv-free zone? Many of us stare at screens all day long already. Even crazier, some of us don't actually love sportsball. Being surrounded by other people throwing objects in 4K Hypercolor HDR ThunderSound is not everyone's favorite way to chill with friends. I discovered this place about 4-5 years ago, and was AMAZED by their juicy pub burgers and hand-cut fries. For years, the burgers were cooked EXACTLY to order... Medium rare was pink, just this side of bloody, and every bite was depressing because you knew eventually there would be none left. The last THREE chances I gave them (today being the last) my burger was served well-done. The last TWO times I explicitly (nearly BEGGED) the waitress to tell the chef MEDIUM RARE and to PLEASE not over-cook it. The times I went, it was not busy. There were only a couple of other diners, so it wasn't a kitchen being overwhelmed. It was a chef who doesn't give a shit. The fries still rock. It's a shame, though, that what was once my favorite burger in the state is now something I would not order on a bet. read more

Hilltown Tavern is a go to spot for myself and my family. The beer and food selection is fantastic! The cheese steak egg rolls and the shrimp quesadilla are out of this world. The inside is a little small and can get really loud during happy hour but they have a fantastic outdoor patio that is dog friendly, they leave out water bowls for your furry friend. The take out beer selection is usually always on point as well- plenty of local craft companies and other seasonal craft selections to take on the go resonantly priced. The staff is overall friendly and efficient I have visited this place a lot because it's local and it's very consistent. We will definitely keep going back. read more

To be honest I would give this place a 3.5 but yelp Doesn't let you do that. It's pretty decent bar food. Got the cheese steak flat bread which was good. The fried chicken sandwich with garlic parm fries. The sandwich was delicious, however I'm pretty sure the fries were not garlic parm, I double checked with the waitress and she said they were but they didn't look like the ones in the pictures they advertise. The looked and tasted like regular fries and were too greasy for my taste. Also ordered the garlic parm wings which were good. Nice selection of beer. Outside seating is really cute, I'm excited to come back summer time- reminds me of a beer garden. My only Complaint was the service, our waitress was not very attentive and we had to wave her down a few times which was annoying. Other than that, I would recommend. read more

This is a nice little neighborhood bar and restaurant that has really good food and drinks. My fiance and I brought our dog with us and sat outside in their outdoor dining section. They even brought treats and water for the dog! Any way, I ordered the fish and chips which were delicious and huge! I had to take a to go container. The fish was crispy and airy. Watching it down with a Deschutes fresh squeezed IPA made it that much better. My fiance got the Buffalo shrimp. That was really good too. And they had good blue cheese which is not something you can always take for granted. Can't wait to go back more this summer! read more

This place is a true somewhat hidden gem of manayunk. It's off main street so it's nice and quite with plenty of space, very COVID friendly. We came on a Friday night with 4 people and had to wait like 20 Minutes for a table which isn't bad at all. We got drinks and sat on their comfy couches outside to wait. The food is amazing. The cheesesteak egg rolls were one of the best I've ever had. I also got the southern fried chicken sandwich with parm fries, amazing! I don't even like fried chicken sandwiches and I ordered this twice in one weekend. We came back the next day with some friends for lunch and the food was equally as amazing. Hilltown is truly a hidden gem. It is tucked away in the middle of the neighborhood, with a fairly large outdoor seating area. The atmosphere is very easy going and you definitely get local vibes from this spot (which I love). The bartenders are super chill and make your visits enjoyable and entertaining. They have a rotating craft beer selection and I've never had any issues finding a beer I didn't like. I've had pretty much every food item on their menu and have yet to be disappointed. I am mostly an appetizer girl, and they hands down have the best Cheesesteak Eggrolls in Manayunk. If you want wings, definitely go with the hilltown sauce. Overall, it's an awesome spot to grab drinks and food whether you're with friends or not. Side note - we ordered takeout from here during COVID and were extremely impressed with their preparedness and cleanliness. All employees were wearing masks and brought the food outside to your car.
