    Hangover burger
    John L. H.

Catahoula's is a great, casual spot for lunch. I ended up here after a work thing. It was recommended by a friend who lives in the area. When we were driving there I noticed a bayou and cypress trees. I asked him if it was man made so they would feel like they are part of Louisiana and not Arkansas. He didn't find it funny. Our server was great. She was super friendly and helpful and a great salesperson. She even convinced me to get a burger that came with gravy since that's what all the locals do. I made her put it on the side since who in their right mind eats burgers with gravy. Anyway, the gravy was good but I am still not convinced it belongs on a burger. Minus that, the burger was great. I will definitely be back. If you're looking for a casual spot with a great view, Catahoula's should be on your list.

I don't really get the negative reviews. Although, I'm from out of town and probably ordered something pretty basic and hard to screw up. This little restaurant/bar is situated near the water. I want to say it's either the bayou or river in town but half the time I can't figure out which is which. I came here for lunch with my family on one of the days I was visiting and it was somewhat still fairly early. Like just opening early. They have daily lunch specials which is nice for the wallet. I went with a half a po boy and picked the pasta salad as my side. I'm really glad I went with a half because a whole is absolutely massive. Opted for grilled shrimp and was pleased that the pasta salad wasn't saturated in mayo and was actually a vinaigrette. Saving my waist line one struggle meal at a time. The shrimp were pretty large and plentiful and the bread was soft and had a nice bounce to it. I really like when they don't give you half stale french bread that chews up the roof of your mouth. So this po boy was a huge winner for me. Things I couldn't care for were the appetizers my dad ordered. We got fried pickles and the fried mushrooms. The mushrooms were okay. The pickles were so salty they were nearly inedible. For me. My family still ate them but they'll eat everything. I can't speak for the drinks because half of my immediate family gave up drinking completely recently and I tried to restrain myself to some degree on this trip. But they sold frozen drinks that would have been tempting and maybe the route I would have gone on. The food is cheap, the service was fast and friendly. I really can't find anything to complain about other than please for the love of god lay off the salt.

Natchitoches meat pies. There are 5 to an order but I are 2:) These are delicious.

Great service and tasty food. Mom got the catfish poboy and said it was very good, we'll-dressed and plenty of catfish. Got warm bread pudding which was delicious. We'll be back next time through.

Catahoula's cheese fries are to-die-for! Their wings are naked and taste like Pluckers medium heat. So delicious.

Catfish poboy with minimum lettuce and tomato and very small slices of catfish.

I wish I can leave 0 stars lol. I told my husband I did not want to come here because the first time I came I was disappointed. However, I believe in second chances so I went along with it. Again I was DISAPPOINTED AND DISGUSTED. I ordered a poboy and they gave me a small half slice of tomato and very few shreds of lettuce. SKIMPY!!! They expect for customers to pay and tip yet they are so skimpy with their food. You might as well go to brookshires or something and cook for yourself a meal that will be worth your money. They're not just skimpy with food but the taste of the food isn't great either.

If you like warm beer and cold food then this is definitely your place to go. Plenty of other options around town that are better.

Service, atmosphere, waterfront view: all on point…read more Here's what we ordered: Appetizer: STUFFED MUSHROOMS. They were very dry. As if they were sitting under a heat lamp or forgotten in the oven. Flavor of the crab was good, though I think I would have rather had a majority of the cheese on the bottom, mixing with the juices from the mushroom and crab instead of heavily coating the top like a crispy crust. Entrees: SHRIMP RAHKEE. Saw so many good reviews for this. I was underwhelmed and disappointed. The whole thing lacked flavor. I had to shake a generous amount of salt on top and it was still lacking flavor. Shrimp were large and juicy, they just needed more flavor. Sauce was thin, could have been thicker and more complex. All of it was just bland. I ordered this over pasta which was cooked perfectly al dente. For my sides, I got the STUFFED POTATO and ASPARAGUS. Stuffed potato was nothing to write home about-- it also tasted as if it was sitting under a heat lamp or left in the oven a bit too long; flavor wasn't bad, though.. Asparagus was asparagus. Would have preferred a nice crusty bread like a French Bread over the Texas Toast. Not terrible, but not great. My teenager ate up my shrimp. My teenager ordeeed the SHRIMP SALAD. He said "it is what it is." Nothing super special but he didn't really have any complaints. My husband ordered the PORK CHOPS with ASPARAGUS and STEAMED VEGGIES. He really Enjoyed the pork chops and shared a bite with me, which was delicious-- cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. His steamed veggies were dry and asparagus was asparagus. My youngest ordered a KIDS CHEESEBURGER. Unfortunately, much like many places serving a kids cheeseburger-- it was pretty basic. My youngest had a few bites and wasn't interested in finishing it. This is served with chips. I should mention that all of the entrees looked visually tasty and we really wanted to like them. Maybe we were just there on an off night. Our server and everyone working there was very nice and attentive. The owner gave us a hearty smile and good bye. Service itself earned half the rating for me. View of the water was really nice, though I probably won't be back if I find myself in Monroe again.

The first time we dined here was in 2017, maybe, during which time the server slung our children's food across the table while setting it down-- french fries can roll off a plate with gusto! It was when the server placed the food back on the plate for the kids to eat as if we didn't all see what had just happened that put us off to coming back here. Fast forward to June 2026, it's a Saturday evening and the place my husband and I wanted to go was packed. We decided to give The Fat Pelican another try. When we walked in, there were only three tables occupied. As we stood there waiting for any signs of life from someone employed by this place, we could feel the stares from a particular table, as if trying to warn us to leave while we still could. But hindsight is always 20/20. A sweaty man emerged from the kitchen and told us we could have a seat wherever we liked. As we looked over the menu, I noted the shrimp plates all indicated (imported), which is pretty odd, being close enough to the gulf, and because our booth was right next to a poster celebrating some Louisiana Shrimp festival. I ordered unsweetened tea, which was more watery than tea, and patiently requested a soda instead, which he forgot about. One of the original 3 tables energetically waived sweaty man down, asking for their check so they could leave. Another quickly followed suit. The third table may have been playing mahjong-- they were clearly content in being out and visiting their friends. When it was our turn for what may have finally been the undivided attention of the server, we ordered. My husband ordered a steak. "We're out of steak"........ I ordered while he reconsidered the menu, really wanting to just abort the whole mission. There is a $1.50 up-charge for the loaded baked potato, which would have not been a big deal, but my husband's "loaded baked potato" was dry. We didn't bother to hunt the sweaty man down to ask for more butter, because we were both pretty frustrated. Because we were looking forward to a place that included dessert with their meal, we absolutely ordered the chocolate fudge cake. Look-- no shade on Duncan Hines or their brownies, but that is clearly what we each paid $8.99 for. You could literally taste the Duncan Hines, which was topped with ice cream and some confusing blue berries. It was a relief to pay out and leave, especially since the indie hits playlist had started its second loop. If you're still reading and wondering.. no one else came in to dine while we were there. There won't be a third time.

Upon entering, I found the interior decor to be rather average and understated but do not let that fool you for a single moment. It is absolutely magnificent, providing the most glorious backdrop that would be utterly perfect for an elegant evening out, a romantic date, or a refined family gathering. While the setting isn't overly fancy, the natural beauty of the river paired with the immense warmth of the staff makes it incredibly special. To commence our meal, I opted for a classic, perfectly chilled Martini, while my partner ordered the Watermelon Breeze both were thoroughly refreshing. As we sat chatting and taking in the scenery, we ordered the Shrimp and Grits along with a side of hush puppies. When the cuisine arrived, it was an absolute triumph. The flavors were entirely delicious, capturing the very best of Southern comfort. Between the breathtaking view, the flawless hospitality, and the exceptional food, this establishment is a true treasure. It deserves every bit of its five stars, and I shall most certainly be returning

Advertised as fine dining is a joke, obviously must be a regular for a good service. The table next to us, a lovely older couple, had multiple members of the staff come and speak to them and bring them free drinks "from their favorite bartender." I understand the persistence of regulars for an establishment but that is no excuse to ignore and not give the same respect and priority to neighboring tables. I work in the service industry myself and have so much love for it and this place is nothing id ever experienced. Extremely dissatisfied with everything this restaurant had to offer. (Do you take call ahead orders?) Bummed I couldn't order ahead since we were in a hurry but it was very easy and quick to order at the counter, pizza was out in less than eight minutes. (It was slow at the time, so I'm assuming that helped). I asked for a to go box right away and we ate 2 slices, packed and left. We were in and out in about 20 minutes. I'm an IPA drinker and the one beer they were out of was their IPA. This was a bummer. I would have loved to have tried it. I would have bought a single can but they also don't sell singles (maybe they aren't allowed to do so) The pizza was delicious. Really, really good, and I'm a pizza snob. Just the right amount of cheese, enough basil, tasty sauce, great crust and well cooked. the one negative was it was too salty. It wasn't just salty cheese or salty sauce, it tasted like the entire pizza had salt on top of it. I like salt so this didn't ruin it for me, but I was pretty surprised how salty it was and would specifically request less salt (if possible) next time. The pizza is delicious, definitely don't need to make it this salty so if adding extra salt on top you can X that! I loved the atmosphere. Very clean and well lit, with a good amount of TVs but not too many. Comfortable seats well spaced. Cool outdoor space. The staff was very friendly. We will definitely stop again!
