First I must say the server Chris was so kind and so accommodating! The side is beautiful and accommodate large parties. The ambiance inside is so pretty and the lighting is modestly low. I tried for a weekend Brunch treat the Hobo Skillet . It consists of two scrambled eggs over potatoes (not exactly hash browns) , pieces of bacon , pieces of tomatoes nd topped with sour cream. The ambience of the restaurant is beautiful. It's very dark and intimate. Great date spot. The staff were pretty attentive throughout the evening and topped off water quickly. We started the night off with a bottle of white but it unfortunately wasn't chilled at all. The pasta was very good but the sauce leaned on the heavier side. We had an interesting meal at Red Restaurant. My wife & I were by the bar and drinking a glass of wine while waiting for my sister in law to yell surprise! I saw the bartender open bottle of red wine, my wife's white wine tasted... old. Something was off. The family comes, we give hugs and kisses as we're shown to our table. Our first starter was a huge salad that we all shared as well as a calamari platter. I love when there are baby whole octopus as well as the sliced rings. They did a good job on the cook, it wasn't too rubbery. My favorite pasta is Bucatini and they offer a Bucatini Carbonara. A carbonara to me is a rich sauce made with eggs, bacon or ham and grated cheese. Red is also making their pasta fresh so I'm looking forward to this dish. The entire dish was bland. Salt from the bacon, something? There were noodles, is there any grated cheese? Where is the rich yolky sauce? It was a nice night out with family, Red was average IMHO. read more

Review for Red Restaurant I have been a loyal customer at Red for years. I've spent a lot of money here, and I always believed I had a friendly relationship with the owner, Nino. Sadly, my most recent experience was beyond disappointing and has completely changed how I feel about this place. On my last visit, I calmly brought up a concern to the waitress about an incident my friend experienced during a prior visit, where she felt attacked by the same waitress. The conversation was completely civil--there was no yelling, no escalation, and I simply asked for the manager to come over. The manager's behavior shocked me: instead of listening to my concerns, they were extremely rude and dismissive. It felt like they were ganging up on me. I then asked them to call Nino because I thought he would be more understanding. I wasn't asking for him to come to the restaurant, just to call me or take my number to discuss the issue later. To my surprise, Nino actually came to the restaurant, stormed over to me in front of another patron at the bar, and immediately accused me, saying, "You made me come back here for this." This accusation was baffling--I never asked him to return to the restaurant. I simply wanted a phone conversation or for him to receive my contact information. Nino didn't give me a chance to explain or share my side of the story. Instead, he screamed at me to leave, stating I wasn't allowed to order anything, and demanded I go to the door. I walked toward the door, assuming he might try to talk to me rationally on the way out. But instead of acting professionally or respectfully, he physically shoved me and told me to "get the f*** out." To be clear, there was no yelling, no aggressive behavior, and no escalation on my part. I even had two witnesses listening on a three-way call who can confirm everything. Additionally, the restaurant's cameras would show exactly how calm the discussion was. There was absolutely no justification for this kind of treatment, let alone for being physically shoved out the door. After the incident, a local resident who witnessed the situation from across the street approached me. She mentioned she never comes to Red because she finds the staff rude and unwelcoming. She also pointed out how empty the restaurant often is and shared her own experience of being turned away despite the place being completely vacant. I am still in disbelief over how this situation unfolded. I've supported this business for years and thought I had a respectful connection with Nino, but his actions were not just unprofessional--they were outright unacceptable. To Nino: There is no excuse for putting your hands on a customer. No one--especially a woman--should ever be treated like this. If you were frustrated about coming back to the restaurant, that's on your staff for communicating poorly--not me. This incident could have been resolved with a simple conversation, but instead, you chose to physically push me out the door. I can no longer recommend this restaurant to anyone. If you value respect, professionalism, and safety, I suggest avoiding Red altogether. read more

A very good restaurant on Huntington's restaurant row. I gave them 4 stars and had an overall very good experience. I took away one star because the food was served too quickly. I hope the owners and managers take note as with all the available great restaurants in Huntington I'm hesitant about coming back. Don't get me wrong the food was great and our waitress Justine was excellent. We came in around 5:20 pm on a Saturday night, after ordering had the appetizers served in under 10 minutes. That's ok although the main course came out about 15 minutes later. I looked at my watch and it was 5:50 pm. This is suppose to be a dining experience. I checked the table that came in after me and noticed they were served quickly as well. I think I was out of the restaurant before 6:30 pm. When you are spending that kind of money and drive over an hour to get there you really want to relax. I understand they need to turn more tables with limited seating for COVID-19 although this was too quick. I wanted to put the negative part out first. Now for the positives. Nice atmosphere, very clean and well decorated. The restaurant is warm and inviting. All of the staff were extremely inviting. The bathrooms are spotless, everyone was wearing masks properly, they are socially distancing properly. The food was great and if I had to describe all the dishes in one word I would say FLAVORFUL! Started with the empanada and sea scallops. Both dishes had a sauce that was perfect. The empanadas crust was soft and easy to bite into. Main courses were the curried shrimp which was accompanied by coconut rice and a mango chutney sauce. I asked for the chef to make it spicy and it was just the right amount. The salmon was awesome and was accompanied by quinoa primavera which was a standout! Very different flavor and both dishes were filling. Red Restaurant was an absolute delight to go for dinner last night, as my girlfriend and I have been wanting to go here for a long time, except when we wanted to, it was Monday or Tuesday; and they are closed. But this time, we got a table on Wednesday through OpenTable no problem. A great perk is the parking lot they have in the back, was very easy to drive in and find a spot to leave the car. The restaurant was very nicely decorated. Candles on every table. Tables set pristinely. And some of the friendliest and personable servers I've seen in awhile, very nice welcome. We decided to go for a bottle of wine, which we tried and enjoyed, then had the bread with the spread, cheese, salted butter and olives, a big must for an app. The Carpaccio we had wasn't that special, it would be considered the miss of the evening. For dinner I had the Mushroom Risotto which was very good, a little watery but the flavor came across nice and was very filling. Gf had the Spinach Gnocchi which she very much enjoyed as well, she just wanted a little more spinach on it. The dessert was some cookies which were good and a capuccino which also was okay. For starters we had the poutine which was really glad then I had beef bourgeoisie which was delicious the meat was super tender, my husband had the burger with fries he said it hit the spot, my friend had the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes which I will get next time! We had a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon that paired nicely with my beef and for dessert we had donuts which came with chocolate and caramel sauce on the side. Since I love their sister restaurants "Osteria Da Nino" & "Sapsuckers", I decided to give this place a try. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. The decor is nice inside and the outside seating is eye catching as well. The food is another story... Dayboat sea scallops with pickled leeks and roasted sweet peppers - Three tiny little scallops on top of what tasted exactly like the veggies in an Italian sausage and peppers sandwich. Not a good mix for a seafood dish at all. And the $22 price tag for these 3 tiny scallops certainly puts an even worse taste in your mouth. Mussels in a curry coconut cream broth - This was the best dish of the night. The only good dish of the night actually. Nicely cooked fresh mussels in a balanced creamy broth. Good spice, well seasoned, and creamy. Excellent for dipping bread. $17...Well done. Chicken under a brick - This dish was just terrible in taste and technique. Everything! The chicken, brussel sprouts, potatoes, spinach, all the way down to the jus, had absolutely no flavor. No salt, no pepper, no herb flavor in the herb jus, nothing! Just completely bland. Also, the whole point of cooking chicken under a brick is to crisp up the skin to a nice deep golden brown! But then they pour the jus all over it which makes the skin soggy again. They missed the whole point of cooking it this way. Your supposed to put the jus under the chicken and lay the chicken skin side up on top of the jus. $34...Unreal... Branzino - This was just ok. Well seasoned fish, cooked well. Flakey and moist. Nothing special in terms of flavor but it was prepared nicely. The potatoes and wilted kale were under seasoned like the chicken dish. $38...meh I'm not sure if I will ever come back to give it a second chance. I had a wonderful experience at Red Restaurant. We found a free parking spot across the street in the back lot. When we entered the restaurant the hostess was polite and friendly and sat us. My husband and I had Shannon as our waiter. He was attentive to my gluten allergy. I wasn't overly hungry so I decided on a appetizer and salad. Shannon suggested the calamari. It was the best Sicilian calamari Ive had. Nice and soft and the sauce was perfection. I was very pleased with my choice. Then I had a Cesar salad minus the croutons. I asked if I should get a half or whole portion and Shannon suggested the half. It was a perfect amount. It's charming inside. Food was excellent and the staff friendly and attentive. We went to appliance world across the street and asked for an recommendation for dinner. 2 different peoples first choice was Red. We were greeted by Nino, the owner. He was great. Funny and engaging. We both had the price fix which is $31 for appetizer, dinner and dessert. I started with calamari. It was fantastic. Fresh tomato, capers and cooked to perfection. My wife picked the cauliflower salad which was very nice. Entrees were paella and salmon. The paella was the best I have ever had. There was protein in every bite. Very, very bland food. My husband and I came here to celebrate 1 of our anniversaries and we opted for the Sunset Menu-31.95 for 3 courses. I got: Fritto Misto-Just fried seafood. The accompanying aioli was good. Cavatelli Bolognese-Could easily make this better at home. Tasted like plain pasta with jarred sauce and a few pieces of meat. Flourless Chocolate Cake-Good, but not the best I've had. My husband got: Tuna Tartare-I didn't try but he said had no flavor. Shell Steak Frites ($10 Surcharge)-We assumed this would be the same steak frites on the regular menu topped with gorgonzola but it was not) Flourless Chocolate Cake as well Service was good, though. Very attentive staff including being greeted by the host who is also a waiter. Our waitress was sweet and patient. She advised ordering the charred baby octopus appetizer which was served with cherry tomatoes, chick peas, white beans and rosemary. It was delicious and the octopus was crispy and tender. My bf has the ahi tuna pan seared with soy and jasmine rice. It had no flavor and I would have added gluten free soy sauce and sesame seeds. My son had a burger with fresh mozzarella which he said was just okay. I ordered gluten free pasta with shrimp to take home to my daughter. She had just taken the train in from the city and she was starving. She said it was pretty good! I would give Red 3.5 stars and will probably try it again soon. Great food. Great service. The prix fixe "sunset special" is definitely worth the price. Had we known there was both an outside area, as well as an adjacent, dedicated parking lot, my husband and I would've gone last year. based on other reviews and my wife's vigilant searching for after Northport Theater venue for dinner (Northport/Huntingdon/Centerport)......we through this looked like a good choice. i am a gluten avoiding whole food plant based eater. Scanning the menu it looked like I had a "friend" in the kitchen. So of we went. A varied and not just Italian based menu. Some Spainish and American favorites and lots of components for me to pick and choose and challenge the chef. My wife got the delicious beet and harticort vert with a goat cheese mouse dressing, (she loved it) and for her main she received a Pealla (Valencian rice dish with saffron) that she also said was very good!! I had some gluten- free bread (a corn and raisin affair that was very tasty) and a lentil soup (whole soup gluten free) for appetizer that was (while my expectations were low) turned out to be very tender and flavorful. for my main I chose a gluten-free pappardelle noodle made on premise from rice which I have to say was one of the nicest and al dente but not tasting like dirt gluten-free noodle I have ever had. (I actually wanted to get a TO GO box to take home??) with that I had a flavorful and varied vegetable ratatouille on top. A really nice touch was Nino came to visit us at the table and we chatted about diets, allergies/gluten/modern wheat, SAD and AFFLUENT diets and a few other foodie items. I work in town and usually get off late so my bf and I decided to try somewhere new! So happy that we ventured out because everything was amazing! Bf said it was the best salmon he's ever had, he swapped out the original sides for mash and carrots. I had the ravioli and that was to die for! I should of gone with the full size though. If you're starving (like I was) the side size won't seal the deal. For dessert (my bf has a sweet tooth) he ordered the bread pudding and said it taste just like the one he use to eat back home (Ireland). I had the 6 grapes dessert wine, also very good!! Wow is all we can say about another restaurant of this group. Again food service and ambiance in the restaurant was outstanding. This time however Tyler was the super star. As well as the chef of course. We come early because we are in Huntington for something else so it's like having the restaurant to yourself most of the time. Since it's not busy Tyler was pretty much a one man show. I would assume they have a bartender when it's busy but maybe they don't who knows. For us at that time Tyler was the server, bartender heck he may have even cooked the food for all we knew, just kidding about that. My mother is picky so they made her a special pasta dish that wasn't on the menu. The apps of tuna tartar and carciofi alla romana were amazing. The latter being different from anything we have ever had and incredible. It is baby artichokes with a beet and goat cheese fondue. Had to try something so different and so glad we did. Picky Mom loved her pasta which of course is great. Wife had the branzino which was cooked to perfection and well seasoned with great sides. I go for the filet mignon medallions with gorgonzola crust special. I can honestly say the meat was as good or better than any of the best steakhouses we have ever eaten in. Melt in your mouth, totally tender, full of flavor, perfectly cooked and seasoned. I made my wife try it and she had to agree absolutely one of the best filet mignons ever. Gorgonzola crust was the most amazing we've had as well. They also do half orders of pasta which is great because I also have to try their different pastas. I had the lobster ravioli which was incredible too. This all didn't even include Tyler's amazing drinks that he was making while also serving us. I met one of my girlfriends at Red Restaurant on Friday night. We weren't intending on going out to eat, and were just looking to have a wine and appetizer kind of night. At Red, we each ordered one glass of wine and ventured down the strip. The appetizers offered at Red felt more like heavy meals, with calamari and oysters, scallops and spinach dip. I must say, however that when I first got to Red and the bartender asked me if I would like a drink- I asked which red wines he had. I told him I liked sweet, and he offered a Pinot Noir- he allowed me to taste it before I got a full glass and I loved it. For two glasses of wine, it was $12.00 without tip and the Restaurant itself seemed very affordable and not overly pricey. I would definitely go back to Red Restaurant when in Huntington, for a low key quiet kind of night. read more

Red has a lot of potential and I will probably go back, but I had a mediocre experience on my first visit. I stopped in on a weekday evening for dinner and was excited to try their prixe fixe situation, but after looking over the options, was pretty bummed to see the only vegetarian option was pasta and the fish option for the day was branzino. Instead, I went for just the "risotto of the day" entree, which was listed as lobster and seafood, but when I ordered it, the bartender informed me that it didn't have lobster (they did decrease the price by a few dollars because of that). I also ordered the summer salad special with pears and beets. My food took a while to come out and when it did, it was just the risotto. I told the staff and he came back a few minutes later with the salad. The food was really delicious, especially the salad, so I'd give Red a second chance. Hopefully next time I won't be fighting for service with a large group at the bar. read more

Red is easily my favorite restaurant on Long Island. The food is perfect every time I come. It is really worth it. The restaurant is adorable, cozy, and welcoming. There is wine everywhere. The review about Valentines Day seems a little out there, maybe you shouldn't have ordered what you did...since you are basically trying to change the menu.... I've been here about 5 times, twice during restaurant week (best deal). They also have a $32 prixe fixe Monday-Thursday which is also really good. I recommend getting a bottle of wine, or if you are more into cocktails they have some good ones. My Favorites: Short Ribs- MMMMM tender, flavorful, crisp fresh veggies always in season. The mashed potatoes are whipped to perfection, taste homemade like Grandma's on Thanksgiving :) Yellowfin Tuna- My absolute favorite meal from here. I get it rare, they are very generous with the portion and the soy glaze on it is amazing. I've had the tuna several times, and it is always consistent and never has any flaws. I actually get upset when this meal is almost over. *Another really great thing about Red is they will basically let you switch out anything, and prepare anything on the menu to your liking. For example, I sometimes want to eat a little healthier and they will give me a double side of steamed veggies no problem. Eggplant Caponata- ADDICTIVE. With that fresh warm bread, mmmm. It is more like a tapanade-ish version. Must try! Seared Scallops- Just incredible, seared crisp on the top and bottom. Excellent tasting and the ones I had were paired with a quinoa primavera. Tilapia- The tilapia here is farm raised from Costa Rica. It is flakey and cooked beautifully. I love the oreganata style, lemony, buttery mmmmm! Burrata Appetizer: WARM Bufala Mozzarella with ricotta inside...plus grilled veggies. Speechless. I've also had several risottos from here, I usually order it as an appetizer and we split it. There is a different one everyday, really cool combinations. Always delicious and something to look forward to. DESSERT! First off, get a cappuccino. FLOURLESS CHOCOLATE CAKE: I can't even put into words how much I love this dessert. It is decadent, warm, just melts away. AH, I want one so bad right now. BREAD PUDDING: This isn't your typical bread pudding, the caramel, ala mode it is just something that is impossible to resist. Almost as good as the flourless chocolate cake in my opinion. Great option if you aren't crazy about chocolate. All the sorbets and gelatos (they are different every time) are really good, especially when you need something to kind of cleanse the palette. The food was amazing here. I got the shrimp curry dish, it was delicious. All the shrimp on the menu are wild caught, which is important to me. My partner's dinner was excellent, also. Great menu selection, prices were not terrible. The service was outstanding. Mediocre ambiance. The big disappointment were the drinks. My partner had been here many times in the past, and he raved about a drink called "Gold something ", it contains Maker's Mark. He said it was nothing like the way they used to make it. I got the Margarita which was awful and I sent it back to be remade, which they did without question. It still didn't taste good but I drank it. Perhaps there is a different bartender. All their food is delicious. They also have a deal with their "sunset menu" - we usually order the cavetelli bolognese or raviolis & a dessert from it. from their regular menu, we have had the tuna, salmon, tuna tartare, calamari, or roasted chicken - and have never been disappointed. their side veggies are also good. I had the tuna tartare, and my honey had the Caesar Salad. Next came my shrimp curry, and his beef bourguignon. Dessert cheesecake and freshly made donuts with two dipping sauces. I had an ok experience here. We had reservations on a Saturday night, but the place wasn't very crowded. We ordered drinks and appetizers- fried ravioli, and friend mozzarella. Almost all the appetizer options were fried.. and the two we ordered weren't that good. The ravioli was flavorless and the cheese came on a bed of grilled onions that didn't make any sense. We also waited a solid 30 mins for them to come out. Would not recommend. They ran out of the filet mignon special so my friends had to change their orders. I got the mushroom ravioli and had to add a ton of salt because it had no flavor also. The creme brûlée was pretty good , didn't love the chocolate cake either. Our server Michael, was very fun and kind. However, we were still charged for the filet mignon we never got. Thank god we looked at the bill. Went to Red tonight and I'm sorry to say that the food was horrible . The calamari were rubbery , the salmon was dry , the paella was tasteless , the chicken had no flavor and the steak was a joke .
