Going in, I think we were expecting something a little more free flowing and open creatively, more of an environment where there wasn't really a right or wrong way to create and kids could fully lean into their own ideas and style. What we found was that the class felt a bit more structured than we were personally looking for. That's not necessarily a bad thing at all, and I could definitely see how that style would work really well for kids who prefer more guidance and direction. It just ended up not being the best fit for my daughter's personality and the kind of creative environment we were hoping for. Everyone was nice, and the space itself was welcoming, it just ultimately wasn't quite the art experience we had envisioned for her. Helpful tip: If your child enjoys more structured instruction and guided projects, this may be a really good fit. If they prefer a more open-ended creative style, it's probably worth asking questions about the class format beforehand. Unfortunately it just didn't end up being the right fit for us personally.

In order to assess his level of interest, I downloaded the trial version of an iPhone game/app called Code Spark Academy. This app allows the user to create the intricate details (levels, rewards, etc.) of a game and then play the game. During this time I noticed that his traditional games and even television shows were put on the backburner. While driving through Elk Grove I noticed a new (at least new to me) establishment called Code Ninjas. I immediately found their website and saw that they offered a coding camp based on the popular platform Roblox. Thankfully, the class was being offered on a day that fell within my son's holiday break. Before registering my son for the class, I ran it by him and he enthusiastically said "YES!" After submitting the payment information, I received a welcome packet from Code Ninjas (outlining the facility rules) that I quickly completed and submitted. The morning of the camp I packed a lunch for my son (Code Ninjas does not provide lunch), and we hit the road! After being warmly greeted by the employee at the front desk, I signed in my son, kissed him, and sent him off to explore the world of coding! When I arrived to pick him up, he did not want to leave. Aside from putting the finishing touches on the game that he created for Roblox, he was "networking" with his fellow coding camp buddies. During our ride home, he could not stop talking about the coding camp. He explained to me in detail the game that he created and that his game was saved so that he could resume the modification of the game upon a return visit. I highly recommend Code Ninjas for any parent that has a child that expresses interest in coding. Yes it is a bit pricey ($89 for the coding camp), but it will definitely pay off (literally) in your child's future! I am already planning on registering my son for the Minecraft Coding Workshop. Thank you Code Ninjas!

Here they will learn the basic fundamentals of basketball and improve their footwork, shooting techniques, dribbling, ball handling & passing, etc. Roburt Sallie, is the owner and trainer who has first hand experience playing from the ranks of AAU, high school, D1 college, and professionally overseas. He has a keen eye for identifying strengths and weaknesses in a player, and using that to help develop them into a stronger, more confident person/player, on and off the court. I've seen him take a player with no experience to making their 6th grade basketball team. Another player that could barely make a 3 point shot if it could save his life, to scoring the most 3 in his division. Another player that was struggling in school and not qualified to play, to now getting a 3.0 GPA and leading the team and on his way to college. With Roburt Sallie, it's more than just training. He is extremely passionate and very much invested into each and every one of the kids he trains. His skills clinics and camps are giving what our community and youth need. A place to perfect your passion, while also keeping you safe and active. He typically has a skills clinic 2-3x a week split off into grades 1-5 and grades 6-12. $30 per 90 minute session. The first 60 minutes are usually skills training and the final 30 minutes playing in a tournament format. The camps are typically held during summer/winter. Always very well executed from the specialized training, games, special guests, etc. The facility itself is large and well maintained. Two full size courts and plenty of equipment. Roburt offers private, semi-private, group and team trainings. I personally have a 4 year old that has been with him for the last year. He is a bit on the younger side and can't necessarily shoot the ball into a standard height hoop, but he loves basketball! That being said, we want expose him to it as much as possible. In the last year he has gone from barely being able to dribble, to dribbling up and down the court with one hand, footwork, and basketball drills. While he doesn't play during the tournament style games at the end, he's able to keep up during the group trainings with the older kids that are grades 1-5. I can only imagine as he continues to train, the level he will be at once he actually gets to their age!

We are fortunate enough to be able to do a lot of the work from home. However, after month's without social interaction with other kids and us basically ignoring her during the day while were at the "office", we were all starting to lose it a bit. Our daughter's daycare hasn't reopened so we stumbled across Sammy's Summer Club. I'm can't tell you how thankful I am that we did. We've been to the Aquatic Center location for 2 weeks. After changed the program and increased the ages at the Aquatic Center, we signed up for a third week at the Pavillion in Elk Grove Regional park. Both locations have been very safety conscious. It's a large space so the kids are socially distanced at tables. They have the same seat and supplies all week. They have a clean pens with a dirty pen designation at sign in. Masks are required, if they are doing anything where they might be closer than 6ft apart. As for the program itself, my daughter is normally pretty shy and takes time to get used to new places. She loves her days there, doesn't cling to us when we leave, and is just generally happy to have something productive to do while we're working. She didn't even have a hard time when we switched locations (and we're talking about a girl that does not like to change her routine). We're feeling relief that we're not forced to use the TV as a baby-sitter during conference calls, ending up with emergency room visits or sifting through poop because she ate a glass bead (yep that happened), and that she's actually learning things that she likes to teach us in the evening. I swear were not horrible parents but things happen when you're trying to do too many things at once with your work days constantly dragging until midnight because of the constant distracts with a young one at home. We're very appreciative that they've been able to balance their services with safety and bring us some balance back into our lives. We'd recommend there programs to anyone even outside of the COVID situation.

In that time, I've trained all over the country and experienced a wide range of schools--but Waza BJJ stands out in every way. The owner, Derek Damano, is the real deal. He earned his black belt in 2006 from world champion Casio Werneck, and it shows in every class he teaches. On top of that, Derek is a Division 1 wrestler and has placed at multiple world-level international BJJ competitions. He's an elite athlete with an unparalleled depth of knowledge in grappling, both gi and no-gi, and one of the most well-rounded instructors you'll ever meet. Waza is home to a strong team of high-level black belts, and every assistant instructor brings their own flavor of excellence. The kids program is flourishing--the coaches are amazing, and the kids absolutely love being there. The environment is welcoming, structured, and fun. Beyond the instruction, the vibe at Waza is something special. Derek himself is probably one of the coolest guys in Jiu-Jitsu--laid-back, calm, funny, and just genuinely great to be around. He sets the tone for the entire academy. The facility is gorgeous--huge mat space, multiple bathrooms and changing areas, a clean waiting area for families, a kids' zone, and even a small cardio corner with machines for a quick workouts. Whether you're brand new to Jiu-Jitsu, looking for an amazing program for your kids, or already a black belt looking to sharpen your game, Waza BJJ is one of the best places you'll ever train. I personally love this place.

I appreciate the ability to easily switch up your class time, mark absent, and schedule make ups all online. The staff we've encountered so far are all fantastic! They really hone in to each child's personality and skills while still maintaining a way to be fun. And they're so approachable, especially to the shy kiddos. It's time for an updated review!…read more When Ms. Sandy first became director, I'll admit I wasn't sure what to expect. As a parent, I like getting to know the people caring for my children, and she seemed very quiet at first. Looking back, I realize she stepped into a difficult situation and was focused on getting the center where it needed to be. I'm so glad we gave her time because she has proven to be an excellent director. She's approachable, listens to families, understands my son's autism and our family's needs, and has hired kind, qualified teachers who truly care about children. Our Assistant Director, Ms. Latisha, deserves so much recognition. I was sad when she left the TK classroom because she helped prepare my older three children for elementary school. She has an incredible heart for children, takes parents' concerns seriously, adapts to every child's learning style, and genuinely gets to know each child. She is exactly the kind of leader every childcare center needs. I also appreciate that the center invested in hiring someone whose focus is helping keep the facility safe. While I haven't personally seen much of her work, it's reassuring to know leadership is making safety a priority. A huge thank you to Ms. Megan, Ms. Genia, Ms. Jazzie, Ms. Shayla, Ms. Kennedy, Ms. Arishma, Ms. Becky, Ms. Tae, and the wonderful 3-year-old teachers. Every staff member I've worked with has been caring, welcoming, and dedicated. Ms. Megan and Ms. Genia especially have become the heart of this center. My only suggestion is to improve the school-age program. I'd love to see more field trips, field days, special visitors, and exciting activities that give school-age children something to look forward to during breaks. This has been my only consistent concern over the past few years. Overall, my family has trusted this center with our children for years, and we've seen many positive changes. If leadership continues supporting and keeping this amazing team together, this center has the potential to truly flourish. Thank you to everyone who pours into our children every day!
