During his first training session an associate (called a "Sensei") gently guided him and then let him work independently. When our son had questions, they were there to quickly address them. When I arrived for pick up everyone was upbeat about what they had accomplished that day. That was over a month ago now and we are still going strong. We will likely even increase our membership at some point. I was scanning through the reviews and Janet M. incorrectly wrote that they charge $75 an hour? Wrong. We are pleased, the owners are wonderful and very involved with their clientele. This business is spotless and everyone is very careful to follow COVID safety guidelines. Want to try something new? What was doing the teacher at that time I have no clue. But I can tell that the environment is unfriendly and unsafe anymore. He is a very social kid, but not much of a sports player. When the postcard for Camp EDMO came home, I was sure he would roll his eyes, but instead he said he wanted to give it a try. He chose game coding and, day one, he was hooked! His group is creating a video game. It involves potatoes, so that's already funny! The activities, the staff, the general vibe, are wonderful. The counselors are so good at encouraging him to use his creative side to its fullest, and rather than try to change him, they have allowed him to be confident with who he is and how he thinks. Having toured several other schools, we were unable to find the right fit until we found CIS. Not only do they check off all of our boxes but they offer so much more than we could have ever asked for. In addition to providing a safe and secure environment, every staff member truly loves what they do and cares about each and every student. It is a home away from home and I know that each day that I leave my child in their hands, that she is more than well taken care of. They are extremely communicative and share classroom updates, school news and photos of my child each and every day. We love that it is project-based and a STEAM school as she has already learned so much! Additionally she is learning how to speak and write in Spanish and Mandarin! There is one class per grade which adds to the home like feeling since the school is small and more intimate. 1:8 ratio, each class has a total of 16 students and a teacher and educational assistant. So each child gets the attention they need. They also provide individual educational plans. The students learn BOTH Mandarin and Spanish. And they also offer global studies. It's project based learning so not a lot of homework and busy worksheet type work. I'm blown away with everything CIS has to offer my child! This school is everything I thought it would be! My child is thriving so much! And it feels like a real family here. I love how small and intimate it is. And I'm really looking forward to my child growing up with her classmates over the years. Moved to area end of the school year / start of summer and to be honest was worried about kiddo…read more(4yrs old) settling in and being comfortable at a new school. "Application" process was easy and I did a virtual tour via FaceTime with Millie (one of the owners). She was super calm and answered every single question I had & showed me every nook and cranny or the school and where kiddo was going to be. PK2 here we come! 1st day I don't think it ever gets easier sending your kiddo to a new school. Kiddo was a touch apprehensive of a new environment but Teacher Nikki was so incredibly warm and welcoming to kiddo (and hubs and I)! Immediately I knew he was going to be just fine. We met Teacher Monique the next day or so - they coteach PK2 - and she's a gem. Both teachers are warm & caring (like aunties) and their love for teaching shines through! The classroom Together Monique & Nikki have created a thriving classroom full of areas to explore with defined spaces & boundaries. There a reading circle, pet fish, reading pod, and then nap mats for the kiddos to use after lunch before afternoon activities. If the kids don't nap they do have the option to read/look at books quietly. The PK2 classroom has two restrooms with kiddo sized toilets and sinks. Each season brings new decorations to the classroom (and school). There are days when kiddo is having a rough morning and both Teacher Nikki and Teacher Monique are angels getting him into class quickly, settled and then sharing with us that he's ok which I so appreciate because there's nothing worse than leaving your kiddo in tears! The school overall Goddard does a host of extra activities- summer bbq, Father's Day celebration, Trunk-or-Treat, holiday concert to name a few. Each brings the Goodard teachers & families together in a special way, along all to get to know each other a little better, enabling us partner for our kid's. Goddard is a pretty special place.
