I've been to Catch 22 several times and the experience has always been great, but the lunch I had there today compels me to write a review. Today I ate the best burger I've ever had. Chef Richard Miley took his already awesome hamburger and made a few additions. What additions? Oh, I don't know, how about FOIE GRAS! Yes, a foie gras burger with arugula, bacon mayo, Dijon mustard and manchego cheese on a popcorn bun. Boom. The only downside was I was too full to eat the ramen I saw come out of the kitchen next, but that is next on my list of must-haves. And if the food weren't enough, they have a killer craft beer selection. Catch 22 is destined to become one of Athens legendary destinations with their combination of great food and great beer. read more

I have always loved eating at this place, the food is awesome and until tonight, the service was always great. Tonight though, as I sit at my table, I feel I have to give a negative review because I am appalled by the service here. Our waitress wasn't interested in giving me a drink menu, though I'm well over 21. Then, only moments after she walked away to place our order, I asked if I could add more food onto it and she told me no because she already put the order in. Need I mention, she aggressively snatched the menus from the table and proceeded to slam them where she put them back. Didn't realize this restaurant was so well off they needed to turn customers away from spending more money. Guess you don't need mine, my friends, or my families business anymore. When I sit to enjoy a meal, the last thing I need is to feel as if my business is a burden. read more

I was a little hesitant to try this based in some mixed reviews I had read on Yelp, but I am really glad I tried it. The ambiance is casual with great beer themed decor on the walls. Whoever owns this place is a real beer aficionado. I love that! The server was super friendly and helpful. I ended up trying the bad mother clucker or some variation of that name. It was their chicken sandwich served on a garlic and cheese biscuit. Wow! I paired that with some filthy fries covered in cheese, bacon, and chives. The sweet tea wasn't cutting it for me, especially since this is a gastro pub so I decided to try a flight of beer. This place has a great beer selection. They even have a gose on tap. If you know what that is, I am impressed with your beer knowledge. Even though I live an hour and a half from here, it gives me a good excuse to visit my friends in Athens. What a fun place. Went for a work lunch and enjoyed it all. The decor and "attitude " of the place are just fun and it carries over into a staff that seems to enjoy being there. The food is different and delicious with both traditional (chicken wings) and not traditional (Sriracha grilled cheese) and everything in between. The wings with liquid gold were amazing. The French dip was flavorful well prepared and just different enough to keep your attention. The grilled cheese and mother clucker were also yummy (I didn't eat those but was told by those that did). The Southern BLT will change your perspective on life. Really enjoyed our lunch. Even though not on the day's menu, the server said she would get me the tuna tacos (the reason I wanted to try this place based on a Yelp review). My wife had the blackened tuna sandwich and we were both very pleased with both the food and service. The restaurant is deceiving from the front. In fact, I had passed this place many times and wasn't sure what it was until I saw it on Yelp. Very nice ambience. The fam ate here today. Great food. Great service. I love the quirky menu. The tots are great, and we're VERY picky on our tots. Hubby had the Porknado Burger. It was amazing (well, maybe not from bystanders on the ride home). Daughter #1 had Takedown Tacos (ahi tuna). AMAZING! I nabbed a bite when she went to the restroom. This is my favorite burger place and one of my favorite restaurants overall. The staff and food have been excellent every time I have visited. Their whole menu sounds delicious (and everything I've tried is), but my favorite thing to order is the Chef's Pick Burger. It is always unpredictable and extremely tasty. It is the perfect meal for someone like me who isn't picky and can be a little indecisive when a menu has so many appetizing options. If this interests you, which I hope it does, you can also have the chef pick your side item, although, the fries are wonderfully seasoned and yummy as well. They have a nice beer selection, including a bunch of local brews. And I especially like that you can order five beer samplers. It can get a little loud inside, but they have an outdoor seating area as well. read more

I know you guys hate Yelp, but I felt compelled to leave a review on here. A++++ experience from start to finish. Every single dish is individually prepared, and you can watch it being prepared through the kitchen window. Meticulous af. The bartenders, the waitstaff, the kitchen. All of it is absolutely exceptional. The food is fucking awesome. Smoked wings with a beautiful smoke ring, the bad mother clucker which puts both Chick-fil-A and Red Lobster to shame, and a slew of other unique dishes that can't be had anywhere else. If you're constantly having a hard time to decide what you want, order the Chef Special. They never let you down. Just tell the server what you like and dislike, the chef special will surprise you. BTW, there fries are insanely good. I know, fries are not that healthy. But if I am eating unhealthy fries, I will want theirs. Not to mention you can see everything in the kitchen when you are waiting. It's a nice pub to hang out with friends and have some drinks. We love to go to movies at University 16, which is very close to Catch 22. Spending some quality time with friends while we are waiting for the movie is really relaxing. Went in for lunch with the family. Maybe not the best place for small kids but is great for adults. If you are a foodie then this place is for you. I friend of mine said this place was really good. He must have had a better experience than us. The food temperature was not correct. My potato salad was room temperature at best. It tasted spoiled, but that it have been because it was made with sour cream. I had the Cubian and it was extremely dry. My husband had the special, a chili cheese burger. Great place with great food and drink - esp. craft beer. I have been to Catch22 probably a dozen times and I have yet to have a bad meal. I've been jealous of what others at the table ordered but, I've not had a bad meal. I'm always interested in the street tacos, which vary daily. Other than those, the sandwiches are very solid; I especially like the pastrami. I rarely order it but, the toffee pudding is really good for desert. My wife and I were here for the first time last night. They have a good selection of beer. I had an IPA, she had a stout--both excellent! Staff was friendly and helpful. Food-wise: I had the blackened tuna sandwich. I was not expecting the generous slab of 3/4" tuna, perfectly seared on each side on a bun that I got. I put the bread aside as it was all too big to eat as a sandwich. The tuna had no problem standing on its own. The slaw they served on the bun was noteworthy with a hint of horseradish. A nice touch. The fries were flavorfully browned beyond golden to an almost chocolate color. Delicious! My wife's French dip sandwich was equally a hit with her. We'll definitely be back. read more

I sat down at this place not knowing if the food was hit or miss. While looking at the menu I decided to order the Chefs Choice. Minutes pass by until I get my order. When the server dropped the plate on the table I didn't know what was becoming of me. It was a freshly baked bun with blackened salmon paired with three jumbo shrimp , three kinds of cheese " manchago , Gouda and Parmesan . It had also heirloom tomato , mesclun and a siracha aoli. The sandwich was amazing. Then I noticed a hearty scoop of there potato salad. It was unlike any other potato salad!!! It had fresh bacon , scallion and cream cheese. We had the bacon Brussels sprouts as a snack, and, at $5, they were delicious and ample. Sat at the bar and chatted up the kind and knowledgable bartender. Although we did not have a meal, all of the food that came out looked tasty and generous in terms of serving size.
