Came here for a birthday dinner on a Saturday night--although it looked like an upscale restaurant for a special occasion, looks can be deceiving! First of all, we had to wait quite a bit even though we had a reservation. We were seated in the rooftop restaurant on the 4th floor. Service was SO. SLOW. I cannot emphasize this enough. We had set aside 2 1/2 hours for this dinner before we had to be someplace else, and came quite close to running over. Once we ordered and received our appetizers, it was so hard to get the server's attention. They accidentally brought out the wrong sushi order and it took almost 20 minutes to get this amended. We ordered the catch roll, the hellfire roll, and also the caesar salad--everything was just okay. The drinks were quite good though! If only I saw the server more often, I would've ordered more rounds. My friends ordered other dishes like the lobster mac and cheese and the wagyu fried rice, which were all yummy but not quite worth the price or the wait. At the end, we asked if they do anything special for birthdays and they said they could put a candle in one of the desserts if we paid for it. I do feel this is a bit unusual as most restaurants bring something out for free for a birthday, even if it's just a scoop of ice cream with a candle in it. It was a packed night tonight at CATCH but the service did not disappoint at all! It's a very upbeat , but subtle and pleasant atmosphere. The host seated us maybe 5 minutes after we arrived. Without hesitation we jumped right into our drinks and of course we need that sparkling water with some lemons on the side. I had the mojito and if was good . I did not get an appetizer but ordered the salmon and veggies and side of the grilled asparagus. I loved the crispiness of the salmon skin and the texture was perfect..the asparagus was perfect ! You come to Catch for pictures and to hangout. The food isn't what you really come for... I wanted to know what's the hype of this restaurant but never been. I've been reviews and videos from Catch. I experienced it and it's just very mid. I feel like the overall was a 3/5 for me and my party. The food was just okay and it'a on the pricier side. The service wasn't the greatest, it was hard to find our waiter and place our order or get our check. We were checked on 1x only (besides the staff who cleared and reset our table). Our favorite was the fried cauliflower and donuts for dessert. The drinks were good and came out fast. The most disappointing part was the 5 pieces of a5 Waugh surf and turf roll!! 5 pieces only!!! The side veggies Brussels sprouts and broccolini were good- crunchy and tasty. Porterhouse was mediocre, if there wasn't any brown butter, it'll be even more bland. I have mixed feelings on this one. First things first. I had a reservation on Saturday at 8:45 PM. We got there promptly at 8:30ish and when we went up to the hostess, she said we were all checked in and we would get a text when our table was ready. I have no problem waiting a few minutes for my table, but what I do have a problem with is waiting almost another whole hour for a text that came in around 9:36 that our table was ready. I went up to the hostess initially after 15 minutes I arrived to check on the table and she said it would take a little while until we got that text. If I had been told there was a backlog of tables and possibly gotten more context on a timetable when my table was ready, I would've appreciated that. It almost felt like what was the point of a reservation if I had to wait an extra hour for my table? I could've just done a walk-in and be fine with that. Seems like we weren't the only ones with the same issue as I heard other people telling the same thing to the hostess too. I'll get to the food now after finally getting seated, and I will say the service was pretty fast with drinks through our main courses and the check. The Crispy Rice was probably the best part of the meal, I loved the even ratio of fish to rice. Everything else was just fine, but it truthfully left a bad taste in my mouth about how long the wait was with no apology or acknowledging the backlog of reservations or delays of tables. This is definitely a touristy/special event type of place. Very instagrammy kind of spot in the meatpacking district. There is a doorman where you enter making it feel like you're entering a club. You go up in an elevator to get to the main restaurant (evidently there's a more lounge-y vibe upstairs but was closed when we went). At night, when we went, the lighting is low and pretty. It's a reasonably wide open space but the tables are somewhat packed in together in the middle. The hostess was very pleasant, our waiter was very good - you can tell this is a well run establishment. We ordered Tartare trio, Crispy nori taco, Crispy shrimp, Brussels sprouts, Grilled Spanish octopus, and the Hit me chocolate cake for dessert. The tartare trio was very delicious (the creamy wasabi is amazing - almost licked it off the dish) and comes with crispy waferish thing for a good crunchy texture. The nori taco was good and the fried nori held its crunch pretty well. The crispy shrimp was ok - just your normal variety of well fried shrimp in a light sauce. The Brussels sprouts were terrific (when aren't they?) and plentiful. The octopus was just ok. The dessert was this high-multi component cake thing that the gimmick was that you smack it with a spoon to release the chocolate sauce inside. Fun and interesting different chocolate tastes and textures. Overall - definitely worth a try. Get the tartare trio and the Brussels sprouts for sure! read more

I come to catch pretty frequently, it has become one of my favorite places to get dinner and catch a nice relaxed/moody vibe. The playlist is always amazing and the hosts are always so polite. Alright alright alright! Had been wanting to try this spot out for awhile! And this week was it! First off big props to Zach! Top notch stand up gentleman he knows the menu well and really gave us some good input! I'm a big seafood person so I was stoked to try some of his suggestions! There was an amazing Japanese fish special with peaches and pomegranate that was absolutely delicious! Each bite was flavorful and it was paired perfectly very fruity and powerful flavors! The A5 wagyu is a must! It's a 2oz minimum which for two is a perfect portion though you can get more if you'd like, it comes served on a hot stone where you can cook it to your liking! Whenever I'm in a city with a Catch, I love to have a meal there! Catch NYC did not disappoint. We came on an absolutely beautiful night in October and were able to sit out on the rooftop patio. The food was delicious as always. We ordered many things to share with the table but some highlights were the tartare trio, wagyu skewers, and the hellfire roll. The food came out quickly but the meal was still well paced. We also had the Klondike "hit me" dessert which was delicious and fun. We had a reservation for six people and arrived on time but still had to wait about 20 minutes for our table which was the only downside. We've been going to catch for many years now and we definitely love it. There's so many unique, fresh options. My main complaint is that they use msg in almost every hot dish. I understand that msg allergies are not real, that isn't my issue, I just generally don't love the taste of msg and my partner doesn't either. Service was as expected for a higher end place, nothing special though. It's dark and sensual inside, which makes sense it's a steak house, there's plenty of seating I like that too. We got the omakase boat which was fantastic and extremely high quality, but it's not a lot of fish and very pricey. Only get it if you're passionate about sushi/sashimi. The catch roll is amazing with or without the sauce (which contains msg), and the pastas were great too. The steak was by far the best thing we had, perfectly cooked and crisp I was shocked. The dessert is very Instagramable, we've tried pretty much all of them over the years. You really don't have to order dessert though in my opinion, but they are very aesthetically pleasing. The forecast had rain so I think that dissuaded the usual crowds. The service was on point with consistent refills on water and checking in on us. I was surprised that they let us loiter for another hour before we ended up leaving. Ambiance (5/5): The rooftop was absolutely lovely! There were umbrellas that helped to block the sun and the noise volume was appropriate to be able to hear each other. Food (3/5): Overall, the presentation of the dishes were superb but the taste ultimately did not blow me away. The price point per dish was also wildly over-priced but I guess you are paying to have the rooftop experience. Warm Grain Salad (3/5): The presentation is gorgeous with a plate of some red leaves circling the middle. I liked the warm roasted quinoa and the tartness from the vinaigrette. Tuna Poke Bowl (4/5): The tuna chunks sit on a bed of brown rice. It was fresh and was refreshing with the fruit but not too overpowering. Catch Roll (4/5): Once set on the table, the server used a blow torch to lightly cook the salmon on top! I was a fan of the sushi roll because it felt like it was filled with a good amount of meat. The miso honey had a very faint aftertaste but you could definitely taste the crab. Crispy Shrimp (3/5): The breading was relatively light on the shrimp chunks and savory when paired with the mayo. However, there wasn't anything special with it and some pieces tasted a bit overcooked. I thought the fish needed a little more seasoning and the sauce just wasn't my cup of tea (I thought it was a little too sweet). Been hearing Catch for months now so decided to have our brunch one Sunday. The vibes is super cozy and tables are perfectly placed that even if there are many people, it does not feel crowded. The servers are very attentive and know their product and offering so well. The menu is not that huge so it is not really hard to find what you want. From a savory to sweet breakfast and even a regular seafood meal. I ordered the Cinnamon roll pancakes because I was craving some sweets and iced latte. The flavor was so delectable and there was a crunch in every bite. It was also not overly sweet because the syrup was not overwhelming. It was sweet enough to just give enough moist for the pancakes. One of my friends ordered the waffle tower. He was sugared out after the 3rd piece because each layer has a different ice cream flavor to it. My other friend ordered the grilled branzino. Good food and cocktails but rather overpriced. I ordered the famous Lobster Mac and Cheese after having read many great reviews about it. It was indeed tasty with a nice layer of parmesan and breadcrumbs atop the elbow pasta and lobster chunks. However, the portion size was quite small and it didn't help that they gave a large spoon, which made it seem even smaller. For $30, I would've expected either a larger portion or more lobster. I also got the MRC Roll, which was a sushi roll with tuna, shrimp, and avocado. This was good as well, but not particularly special and once again, this was overpriced- $23 for only 5 pieces. Catch has an extensive drinks list and I ordered the One Too Many cocktail (strawberry vodka with coconut, avocado, and lime). This was actually one of the best cocktails I've had, and I especially liked how the coconut flavor shined through in the aftertaste to complement the other fruity flavors. However, $20 for this cocktail is even higher than a lot of NYC rooftop bar prices. Are you seeing a pattern here? The interior has dim lighting and a lively atmosphere, making for an intimate and fun dining experience. The service speed was decent and the staff are of average friendliness. I will note that I did not get a chance to check out the rooftop, though it seems like it's pretty nice up there. Overall, Catch definitely has tasty seafood and drinks, although it is quite overpriced. I would recommend coming once given its popularity just to try it out (and you very well might enjoy it), but thereafter, I think you will probably agree with my assessment and likely opt for other places with better value in the future. read more
