Beautiful restaurant, but unfortunately we won't be returning. We didn't even eat.We had a reservation and were excited to celebrate my boyfriend's 40th birthday. When we were seated, the host didn't mention the restaurant's hat policy. Instead, he waited until we had already sat down and gotten comfortable before telling my boyfriend he had to remove his hat. What made the situation even more confusing was that there were other guests wearing hats. When we questioned it, we were told those hats were allowed for "religious purposes."Our waitress was pleasant while explaining the menu, but then she began emphasizing the prices. That came across as unnecessary and, honestly, a bit insulting. We knew exactly what type of restaurant we were dining at and were fully aware of the pricing before making our reservation.We live on Long Island and regularly dine at steakhouses--not just for special occasions, but as part of our normal routine. We've never been made to feel this way anywhere else. While the restaurant itself is beautiful, the overall experience left us feeling singled out and uncomfortable. Whether intentional or not, the service made us feel judged, and it put a damper on what was supposed to be a special birthday celebration. Strip House has been around forever and is one of the better steak houses in NYC that's outside Midtown (they have a Midtown location as well). You can easily see the history when you visit the restaurant and see all the old photographs hanging around. They've since been bought by a bigger restaurant group, Landry, and no longer independently owned. But the food is still very consistent and the service is excellent. And as an extra bonus, you can sign up for Landry rewards. read more

Eagle-eyed and hospitable service, warm decor, phenomenal food - this place is to die for! I am a bonafide steak lover, and the charcoal crusted NY strip steak took me to another level, the kind where angels sing in your head as you taste the succulence of an extremely flavorful and well cooked piece of meat, medium rare of course! The accompanying potato puree and green vegetable were no slouches either, tastiness to boot. The scrumptious appetizer burrata and prosciutto set the stage for a truly enjoyable meal. The fresh bread basket and butter were yummy too, and a very generous portion of cheesesteak with strawberries rounded out the meal. I came here as a vegetarian and it was actually really good. The sides come in a large portion size and there's lots of vegetarian options. The bread to start was okay, the pretzel bread was a little hard and dry. I got the Mac and cheese, baked potato with no bacon, and creamed spinach and another layered potato dish. The Mac and cheese was delicious and so was the spinach which had a good flavor. The baked potato I wish already had the sour cream and cheese and butter in it instead of having to do it myself. Came here on a Thursday for dinner to celebrate my birthday. We made a resy the night before for 7:15pm so it wasn't hard to get seatings last minute. I've been here a couple times and can always expect the food to be high quality and consistent. I love the atmosphere. What I really appreciate, however, is definitely the excellent service. Last time I went, the waiter accidentally spilled something on my jacket. Not only did he immediately clean it off, but he came back with a flashlight, wiped it off again, and send the manager over who gave me his card and told me that if I noticed any issues with the jacket to call them immediately. I have been to so many steakhouses in New York City, and I have my favorites, so when some friends invited me to join them, I was ecstatic! I love trying a new steakhouse and reading the reviews about this one, I was stoked to try it. The walls were adorned with Hollywood-style photos as well as some other eclectic artwork. I felt like I had stepped back in time. I met my friends at the bar where I ordered a very dirty Martini and it was very excellent. After visiting and catching up, we were shown to our table and given menus and the wine list. Our host ordered wine and a few starters, namely the Seafood Plateau, as well as some other starters. I ordered a Baby Iceberg Wedge, a NY Strip, and a Lobster Tail. The starters were fantastic, the oysters tasty, the crab and lobster divine, and we all fought over the last shrimp! My salad was very good, but when my steak and lobster tail arrived- ooh la la! My steak was amazing, cooked perfectly and so full of flavor. My lobster tail was huge and tasty and tender- like butter. The wine was perfect, and the company even better. Even though we were all pretty full, we HAD to try dessert, so we ordered a Key Lime Pie and the Chocolate cake to share. I must be honest here- I am a Florida boy and am very protective of Key Lime Pie, and I always say no one can make a Key Like Pie like they do at Joe's Stone Crab in Miami Beach- but I now stand corrected as this is one of the best tasting Key Lime Pies I have ever had outside of Florida- even my own kitchen! Oh. my. god. This was so so so good. We got the porterhouse which was absolutely my favorite and it paired so well with their creamed spinach. It was cooked perfectly to medium rare. The bacon was good too and so thick. The desserts were all hits as well. The chocolate cake is almost as tall as the silverware!! Super rich. The key lime pie was my favorite though, especially since you can't find that in many restaurants!! The servers were so funny and everything came out in a timely manner. Boyf & I decided to celebrate his birthday eve w a dinner here on October 21st and truly thought it was good! Good service and atmosphere. Unfortunately, less than 30 minutes after leaving, both my boyfriend and I became extremely ill on the drive home and had to have the driver pull over. I hadn't eaten anything beforehand just water all day, while he did have his normal foods, so the only common factor was our meal at Strip House. I reached out to management directly before writing this review ... they said they'd investigate, but later told me that since no other guests had reported issues, they couldn't do much more. I appreciated that they took the time to listen, but it was disappointing given how severe the reaction was. It's a shame, because we really did enjoy the dining experience itself but the aftermath completely overshadowed it. I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars!! From when we walked in Aiden greeted us so warmly which was such a nice change in New York! What a great first impression, I immediately felt like family! We got seated at a booth and Stephen was our server. He was so fantastic! This was my friends and I's first time at a Strip house so we had lots of questions! What I love most about steakhouses (besides the food obviously) is that each steakhouse has its own personality. Strip house had such an amazing personality from the red lighting to all the picture frames lining the walls. I loved it! Jolie came by our table to talk to us and again made us feel like family which we absolutely loved! All of the staff went above and beyond in making our experience!! I have to say most of the other places we went in New York I did not necessarily feel welcomed which is crazy since we were spending money so this was such a wonderful change! For appetizers we shared the tuna tartar as well as they had a special salon tartar. Both of those a fishes were so fresh and paired so perfectly with the correct sauces it melted in your mouth! The oysters were some of the best oysters I have ever had. They didn't have too much salinity at all and both the east coast and west coast had a very full cups! Now onto the steaks, they come with a beautifully charged head of garlic! Between the table we got the bone I. Ribeye and a few of the 12oz filets. All of the steaks were so perfectly cooked!! The presentation of everything was magnificent! For sides we shared the 1000 layered goose fat potatoes. when I say this is a must,although I was skeptical I thought it would be so greasy, it was not at all! They were so perfectly crispy and had such an amazing flavor profile it was the perfect pairing to the steak. I had also gotten the truffle butter for my steak and put some of that on my potatoes and it was delicious! We also got the mushrooms and the mac and cheese. I loved that the mac and cheese was pasta shells! I personally think that always makes mac and cheese better! Now onto the star of the show- dessert! Stephan recommended the 24 layer chocolate cake and the key lime pie. Since he gave us such amazing recommendations we took this one as well. I am not traditionally a fan of key lime pie but WOW. This pie had a charred marshmallow topping that made me have the biggest smile and I'd recommend that to anyone! My friends loved the chocolate cake it especially how moist it was! To the very last detail of this experience was amazing! As we were leaving my friend had asked Aiden if they had any matches (she collects them to remember her amazing experiences in the city and she especially wanted to remember what a great time we had). He went in the back to see if he could find some laying around. That was so nice of him since it was a Sunday around 7:30 that we're were leaving and that's busy time for anyone that dosnt know. Beautiful ambiance. Dark, dim lighting with a red theme. Absolutely loved the interior. Service was also prompt and friendly. We were able to walk in as a party of two with no reservation on a Sunday at 5pm. It was mostly empty the entire time we were there. There's another midtown location but this is the original. Food was fine but nothing to write home about. My husband liked the bone in ribeye and I enjoyed the sea bass, which was cooked well but the sauce was a little too thick and creamy, which became off putting. They use very, very coarse pepper, which my husband didn't mind but bothered me (both on our caesar salad and the steak). They kindly brought out the caesar salad on two plates after asking if we were sharing, which was a very nice touch. The salad was fine but wish it were a higher quality lettuce, like little gem. For sides, we got the baked potato and creamed spinach, both of which were also fine. Over all, great ambiance and service but found the food pretty average. The California pizza kitchen of steakhouses. I'm not even sure where to begin. I first dined at the strip house in the early 2000's - right after it opened. It was phenomenal. Reimagined what a steak house could be. The steaks were sizzling when delivered and a legitimate crust. The wait staff was old school professional. The ambiance was enviable. What i experienced tonight was an abomination to that legacy. You could feel them stealing money based on their past. We had a 7:00 pm reservation. We all arrived a little early, probably 6:50, and they sat us down. All was good. Maybe it was a sign, but the waiter was somewhat aloof. Kind of just going through the motions. Some ordered drinks. Took a bit for him to come back, but then we ordered appetizers and main courses. This is when the wheels start coming off the bus. Appetizers came out, all was fine, but the waiter was nowhere to be seen. And while it was busy - it was crazy busy. There were open tables scattered through the relatively small dining area (as compared to the 'jumbo' steak houses of recent) We sat for quite awhile without food. It stated to get awkward - we still hadn't seen our waiter. At one point, one of our group got the attention of who i believe was either the manager or someone near that title. I looked at my phone at this moment - it was 9:08. We had been seated for well over two hours, and still no entrees. It would have meant a lot for the waiter to have least stopped by in the last hour and even if he had just said - I'm sorry, things are running behind. That would have helped. But instead we got nothing The woman seemed overwhelmed, wanted to help, but honestly soon became worse than no help at all. She said the kitchen is backed up. But then we said - if that is true - why have multiple tables around us sat down after us, and been served before us? She just said - i don't know what to tell you, this is what the kitchen is telling me But then how are you the manager? That is obviously not the case. We weren't done 10-12 person party, we were just a normal table. It makes no sense who tables of similar size - right next to us - fished eating before we were even served Then about 10 minutes later - all of our food was delivered. As if by magic. But unfortunately, magic was not involved. Rather - it was hasty cooking. Everyone's steaks were significantly underdone. Mine was supposed to be medium rare. It was black and blue at best. Everyone at the table just kind of looked down at their steaks and were a little bit sad. This was a celebratory work dinner, and instead everyone was kind of just disappointed. The manager came over and agreed the steaks were not cooked right. I asked her - we knew there was a problem - why didn't you just admit you forgot the order instead of pretending the kitchen was backed up? You could have taken the time to actually make the meals correctly. Instead, everyone's steak sucked. She did comp my steak, and the sides, which was nice of her. But to be honest, she should have comped everything outside of the appetizers and drinks. Everyone's steak was terrible. Not cooked correctly. That's why you spend $75 for a steak. The bill was still $1,000, even without the sides and my steak. That's a terrible deal. Side bar - as i was complaining to her - and you can't make this up - another guest came up - interrupted and said - I've come here almost every week for years. I've been waiting for over an hour. I'm leaving. So maybe the silver lining here is it wasn't just us... When we were leaving, i let them know how disappointing the meal was - but mainly because i had been coming here several times a year - since it opened. I freaking loved this place. It was such a great, great place. And now it felt like a chain. And a bad one at that. And all she could do is say, I'm sorry you feel that way. Which is fine, but makes me feel like you are just punting on wanting to a destination steak house again. Which is fine. Your business to run. It just feels like you are running like a place that rides the coattails of its prestigious past.
