Had lunch at Caterinas today and was really impressed!!! I've enjoyed their yummy Avocado toast for brunch or the authentically Italian gelato before but had never eaten lunch there. The hubster and I had the Italian Sub and the Turkey Avo Panini, respectively. Both were mouthwateringly Deee-lish!!!! Look- this is my first yelp review but I just had to say something. This was, by far the worst "breakfast burrito" I've had. It was just a panini and the temperature was so hot I had to wait 15 minutes before I could even eat it. I got the steak burrito and I'm not even kidding when I say this, there was 1 small piece of overcooked steak on each side of it. It cost $14 and was served on a paper plate. Not to mention a bottle of water costs 6.50. Honestly guys, just give up. If you're charging this much for 711 quality food, I'd sell the spot read more

Had a great day taking the train near our LA County/Orange County home and stopping first at San Juan Capistrano for a mass at the Basilica and brunch. After some shopping and walking around, we jumped back on the train [still southbound] and chose San Clemente Pier over Oceanside. We had done a lot of walking around San Juan Capistrano so when we got the pier [on this very cold and overcast day] we walked out to the pier and decided it was time to sit down and have dessert and a coffee. We looked at a couple of places but the pastries really attracted us to Caterina's. I had a sticky bun with all those delicious pecans and cinnamon while my wife had an equally delicious apple strudel. The owner was very friendly and took our warmed pastries to our table for us while we fixed up our coffees. He was very friendly as was the entire crew. I did see some of my other fellow Yelpers complain about the owners removing people off the tables. I did see that myself but of course I can understand that they might want to remove someone that is using their tables but won't patronage the business. They could have bought anything and I would assume that they would have been OK with that. Anyways, it was well worth it. The pastries and coffee were good as was the view and getting to sit and people watch. We sat for about an hour when my wife saw an avocado pizza. Yes, and there's more. It was on a bed of cream cheese, no marinera. So of course we had to have one. We ate just a few slices and took the rest home. The prices reflect that you can see the ocean from your seat but again we were happy to enjoy our snacks as we relaxed on another beautiful California Day. read more

The food is very good, however, the older woman who i believe to be the owner, took my order was so incredibly rude. When asked a question about what was on the item I ordered (because I had forgotten my glasses and couldn't read the menu) A wonderful young woman behind the older woman was so kind to try to explain what was on the toast being served, and the older woman literally put her hand up for her to be quiet, which I found to be incredibly disrespectful, especially in front of a customer. I hope this is read by the young woman who prepared my order, as she was so kind and humble. Great coffee, perfect location and good baked treats! We stop by when walking on the beach and love their coffee. They have food options like burritos, avo toast, paninis, etc. everything has been super good but the best is their gluten free banana bread. Highly recommend!! They recently got a liquor license and offer some beer and wine options. They also have gelato! Outside seating with some covered and some under umbrellas. Parking is beach barking by the pier but if you go early you can find something reasonably close. Recommend for a good beach coffee or treat! read more

Our family of four spent the day in San Clemente. A couple of us wanted coffee and stopped into Bear Coast coffee which is next door to Caterina's. We then walked over to Caterina's and ordered four cups of gelato. We proceeded to sit outside at one of the tables in front of Caterina's. One of the workers (I don't know if she was a manager or owner) came out immediately and very rudely told us that she would allow it this time, but that in the future, we would not be allowed to sit at one of their tables with a drink from another business because they sold the same kind of thing. She completely ignored the fact that we were patrons of her business and had just spent almost $40 for our gelato. Don't worry. I will gladly take my business elsewhere. read more

Came here for a snack after a long walk on the San Clemente beach. Ordered a turkey and avocado panini and an iced matcha latte. The panini was delicious and definitely hit the spot! It was cheesy, rich from the avocado, warm and crunchy! Normally I order sandwiches from urth cafe but I think I have a new favorite place for a delicious beachside snack stop without the hype of overcrowded long lines! It's not overly crowded and a small intimate vibe on a Saturday afternoon! It was nice you can have the matcha sweetened or unsweetened too! I would give this establishment zero stars if I could. They advertise gluten free on their entire menu, however were completely dismissive and utterly unwilling to be accommodating of an allergy in any fashion. I explained that I understand cross contamination is a risk in any restaurant, but said I hoped they could at least wipe down some surfaces. we were the ONLY customers there (this should have been a sign of service at first glance). I understand the 3 stars... The Gelato was amazing but customer service is seriously lacking. We entered and didn't even get a "hello, one moment please" they just straight up ignored us. After a few minutes a man, I'm assuming the owner told us he will be right with us. We asked to sample two flavors and it felt like pulling hairs. I got a Medium of Stracciatella and Bubba got a Medium of Green apple and Orange.. he asked for blood orange , but the guy serving did his own thing. Bought coffee for all and pastries paying over $50. We purchased large cups and when I opened the cups to add sugar, all of them were about 2/3. If I only wanted medium coffees, I would have paid for medium. Aside from that, personnel kicked us out because we had purchased an item from another store. Then they refused to give us a receipt. For better context, it is winter and very cold. We had an 80yr old diabetic man with heart problems with us and they didn't cared. Yum! It was getting pretty chilly at the beach, so we decided to opt for some warm drinks and dessert. At first we were a little worried that this place only sold gelato, but we were pleasantly surprised to see how much of a variety it had! So many different fun lattes and mochas to pick from! They also have other drinks, alcohols, snacks, pastries, and gelatos. There is seating inside the patio, but there is also seating out on the sidewalk (that's where we sat). Location was cute! This review is for the gelato shop only. Was in town visiting with my family and my niece and nephews decided they wanted gelato. Since we were staying up the street in condos, we walked down here to grab some. The gelato shop is located in the very back of this restaurant. They have a lot of really great options and the kids working were super nice and pleasant. They were patient with us and asked us if we wanted to try anything. However, I believe she was a manager or owner, was not the nicest. We were wearing our masks, but the two gentlemen in front of us weren't wearing any. We still kept our distance as we browsed, but she screamed at me and my husband and our niece and nephews to get out as there was only one group allowed in at a time. Totally fine rule! I didn't mind that. Her delivery just wasn't the nicest. We felt super embarrassed, and we felt like we were following the rules as this rule of one group in at a time wasn't posted anywhere. 2ND Time here. My friend and I come here to get some cardio done with a beautiful view and breeze by the beach. One of those times we walked all the way to the shops and restaurants. We tend to be super random and always try and find something different. We found this place and thought the set up was super cute! We decided to try it. It was good. MENU: Not overly complicated. Great choices. Healthy choices available for sure. They have an actual menu at the counter for the food options and a QR Code at the tables so you can point your phone camera so that the drinks menu can pop up for you on your phone. ORDERING: You stand in line and place your order. You get a number and find a place to sit. They will bring your food to your table. They have breakfast available, breads/desserts, gelato, piña coladas to name a few. So far what we have tried is delicious. Prices are reasonable. STAFF: The staff has been ok (nothing to brag about). LOCATION: By the beach. Seating is outside and spacious. We are visiting San Clemente for our 35th anniversary and we're delighted to find a place down on the ocean with great pastries and gelato. It was nice to have a place to take a break, enjoy the weather and some great treats. It was a daily stop during our visit and we likely would have continued to make it a daily stop. The service staff is very friendly and helpful however for whatever reason the twenty dollars we spent this morning didn't entitle us to sit at one of the many open tables because I happened to have a coffee cup from a different shop. I'm assuming the older grouchy women was an owner when she informed us "we don't allow outside food or drinks" and made us leave. Caterina's very easy to spot when you come off the Metrolink stop. The tiles, the nice outdoor area attract you to it. I knew they were selling gelatto, but we checked it out and were impressed with their pastries selection! And we stayed! We shared a wonderful cherry turnover and a caramel croissant, fun, original pastries, fresh with a nice, flaky crust. We also enjoyed a Cafe Mocha with whipped cream and decorated with chocolate chips! How fun! Customer service is good here, the girls working behind the counter couldn't be sweeter! The restroom is very modern, nice and clean, it requires a code, but the girls working here are ready to help! You can eat outside, they have a nice seating area, great for people watching and views of the pier and the ocean! The staff never brought our drinks until 20 minutes later when we asked and We only got them because I went up and waited till they poured two coffees. They were out of something ,but sold it to us anyways and substituted one of our meals with something else without asking us. I wish I could say they were packed and head an excuse but they only had 3 people in the place including us. Over priced as well and the staff was rude. When we waited and finally inquired about our drinks she rolled her eyes. I won't skip a beat on NOT recommending this establishment. Stopped by this cute place on a beautiful funny As day! I must have past by a ton of time not knowing that it was there. Decided to stop by for a coffee, initially but saw the tasty ice cream section and decided to try that instead. The nice guy gave us samples of as many as we like. I decided to go with Chocolate chip and Oreo ice cream since he said the orea is a popular flavor. Both were amazing- tasty with chucks of chocolate chips and Oreo inside. It added to the texture and made it even better. Parking was not a problem with Covid 19 and on a weekday. Weekends can be challenging. There's parking along the street and a parking lot around the corner - mostly metered though so make sure you pay before you head out. I read the reviews after my horrible experience and I agree with all of them. They very very rude to my husband about having a ice cream from another location in the patio area when they were closing and nobody was there while he was waiting for me to purchase my items in their shop.
