This was our first trip to San Clemente in June. Not really knowing where to go, we headed down Del Mar looking for somewhere to eat. We ended up down at the pier and what a great area! We couldn't bring Cako on the pier, so we looked at what was available. I did see Bear Coast coffee which I wanted to stop into. Walking down the street, there were these cool blue umbrellas that sort of reminded me of the French Riviera that you see in the movies...LOL! The menu was simple so we decided to stop, plus we needed outdoor seating for Cako. The young woman who was working was friendly and upbeat! Told us to grab whichever table we wanted. Even brought out water for Cako. I ordered the Frenchies sandwich, ham, salami, prosciutto, provolone and pesto! Very good! Scooter had the Jambon and fromage, which he said was perfect! Both sandwiches came with these seasoned crispy potatoes. The menu was small. But I'm sure they'll offer more. Would've tried the crepes but that will have to wait until next time, Again, the service was great! The young woman came out and checked on us and refilled our iced teas. Great afternoon to enjoy lunch and watch people. Cako Approves!

Frenchies is no longer open! Totally closed down! We were so disappointed. But there are 2 other coffee shops right next to it

It is the cutest little cafe tucked inside a beautiful historic building. They have a great assortment of pastries, breakfast, and lunch items to choose from. I decided to try the Turkey Focaccia, and it was fantastic! The focaccia bread itself was super soft, and it came with a MOUND of perfectly thin shavings of turkey. I also got the chicken salad on the side, and I loved that they included huge grapes in it! It added the perfect little crunch and sweetness. This place is a total gem. If you're exploring the area, you absolutely have to stop by for a bite.

I got the lucky Charms coffee and while it was great coffee it tasted like lavender to me (I rate it a 8/10). I will most definitely come back for another coffee purchase. I split a coffee cake with my bestie and it was dry :( it tasted more of a carrot cake to me to be honest. I really enjoyed my order of Shrimp tacos although I thought it was spicy but again really good 8/10. There are restrooms in the facility.

I usually get matchas, yogurt bowls and the ham & cheese croissant are family faves as well. The staff, drinks and food are great. Lately it's been harder for me to order at the drive-thru unless someone is physically outside to take orders. There have been two incidents now where I've sat at the drive thru with no response. I've tried to say hello to see if there's a response and there is none. I think maybe the sensors are in need of maintenance. Please fix it because I've just driven off when this happens. Update: I went back 3/3/26 and sat at the drive thru waiting. Nobody answered so I figured the drive thru is closed. I go inside to order and I asked if the drive thru is closed. The baristas say it's open and "we saw you but we weren't sure if you were waiting to order from us or Hendels (next door ice cream shop)" but then why would I be waiting at better buzz to order from next door?!! then I hear them taking a drive thru order while I'm ordering at the counter. it's confirmed it's not the sensors that aren't picking up my car at the drive thru, I'm just being ignored. Cool. I won't be coming back.

We sampled a lot of items and I loved the little gem lettuce. Hubby got the veggie burrito and it was quite tasty. Fruit, peace beans, toast and the citrus cake rounded out our meal. So, so good! There is also the farm stand next door to buy fresh food and cool products. I tried mulberries for the first time and was glad to have purchased a little container of them. It's a really sweet spot to spend some time enjoying pretty good food. We had fish tacos, tuna tostada, farm salad, orange olive oil cake, and the cold brew. Fish tacos-pretty good but a little short on seasoning, fish was fresh and perfectly cooked, served with cabbage slaw, thick tortillas, and avocado crema. Flavors were just a little bland and it needed some hot sauce or better seasoning to bring it up a notch. Tuna tostadas get high marks. Farm salad was nicely dressed with a tasty vinaigrette, replete with tasty and crunchy croutons on the bottom, delicious crisp fresh lettuces. Portions are not large here and you get exactly what you order, there are no extras on the plate. So if you're hungry, you probably want at least 2 of the entrees. For lighter eaters like myself, splitting two dishes was just right. Iced coffee-meh, I'll skip it next time. Service was fast and friendly. The food is fresh and tastes home cooked, no Sysco truck vibes here. If everything came out perfect, I would have given it five stars. They just need to work on the details a bit and it can hit five stars. I'll definitely be going back to see if consistency is there, and if they can maybe improve the flavors a bit.

Stopped by here exploring San Juan Capistrano area en route to SD for Memorial day wknd. Just walked around the alley and saw a strip of cool old craftsman style homes converted to restaurants. I saw on yelp there was a Tea house. That is what made me walk down the ally. Found the tea house and took a pic. Directly across from there was Ramos house. There wasn't a line. You can tell that the AMs that place will be packed. Food was so good and hit the spot.

It's on me that I didn't realize it was pre-fixe at $48/person on the weekends. So our party of 5 was outrageously expensive considering the fact that we ended up with way too much food and most of it was meh. For course 1, we got the beet and burrata salad, hush puppies, "salmon lox," beignets, and coffee cake. We could have been done after and would have had 1/2 the food leftover. The salmon lox was mild in taste, but nice. The beet salad was delicious, but would have been better with goat cheese. Hush puppies were good, but SO HEAVY. My kids had the beignets and coffee cake, which were served with a lot of syrup/sauce. Neither dish was finished and they were also SO HEAVY. For 2nd plates, we had the beef stew, flannel hash, crab hash, and 2 orders of the mac and cheese with duck confit and truffles. The flannel hash was outstanding. Everything else was meh. The beef stew was good, but the potatoes were unnecessary and there were bites of blue cheese that were disproportionately strong. The crab hash was not good even after adding salt and pepper. The egg portion of the dish was bad. The sweet potato crispies were overwhelming and ridiculous. And the large crab cakes were just totally lacking in flavor. The mac and cheese was also meh although it did reheat better the next day. But the portion of duck confit was light and I ended up with a large bone in my mouth when I had it as leftovers. I do not believe there were any truffles or even truffle oil in this dish, just mushrooms. In short, I would never go again on the weekend and would not even seek this place out on the weekdays. I wonder if the chef changed because the food was just so mediocre compared to before. The portions are very large so if that is of interest, they have that in spades. And the flannel hash was outstanding. So if you find yourself here, definitely order that. I hope a revamp is done on the food. If so, I would come again as the patio is absolutely lovely.
