Saw this place on Yelp that averaged five stars with several hundred reviews (which is very rare and I think this is the only place as such in the area) prior to me and my wife visiting my dad in Columbus and we told him about it and decided to check it out for brunch before we flew back on MLK day. As they run a successful catering business on weekends, they are only open 8-2 Monday through Friday. The place was pretty packed being a holiday, but they did have a table for us. My dad and I each ordered The Zaftig which are half sized roast beef, corned beef, and turkey. Zaftig is used to describe a curvy person but it is also the name of a famous Jewish deli in Boston we may try this summer and I am just seeing that there is a brewing company in the Columbus area with that name. My wife had the Gina's Jewish omlette with smoked salmon. All of our food was wonderful and is on par with the great Jewish delis on the east coast we have tried but for a better value. To drink I had Dr. Brown's Cream Soda and my wife had a coffee which were also great. I think the best feature of the restaurant are the owners that talked to us and the other diners. Not sure if I am correct, but it looks like their names are Scotty and Gina. They are so friendly and treat you like family even if they meet you for the first time. I don't think we have ever dined in a restaurant or gone to a business where the staff makes you feel quite that way. I was also wearing a Baltimore Ravens shirt the day after the Cincinnati Bengals narrowly beat them. A guy from a nearby table came up to me and told me he was sorry and that the Ravens played a good game. The lady at the ticket counter at the airport told me the same thing. This made us all root for the Bengals until they lost to the Chiefs. It just shows how friendly everyone is in Ohio. read more

*extremely late post* My girlfriend works down the street from here and comes all the time. It was my first time there and I left really impressed. My fish sandwich was hot and fresh. The potatoe latkes were very tasty. I'll probably order them again. Not sure if it was my first time having them, but it will not be my last. Her club sandwich was good as well. I had the patty melt with a side of mac and cheese. The melt on rye bread and mac and cheese was sooo good and you can tell freshly made. I was at a Lifewise Academy event in Whitehall on Saturday April 26th and Scotty's catered a brunch. I enjoyed sampling their fresh omelets, fruit tray, bacon, and a very good, cubed potato product with their proprietary seasonings. But that's not all that they served. But it's excellent quality, and plentiful quantities. I got the Schmoozer, which is corned beef over latkes, and you can add an egg, which I did. Just what I needed on a gray December day... Comes with sides of applesauce and sour cream. I also got an egg salad sandwich to take for lunch at work later. Not something that typically travels well, but I got it toasted with veggies on the side and it held up fine. Excellent sandwich, fresh lettuce and tomato, plus a pickle spear. When I told him my name he called his wife over who was also named Gina. The customer service and friendliness is top notch! The food was good also! I had the Schooner which was corned beef on potato pancakes without the egg while some prefer with an egg on top. Many veterans were dining at the time wearing their service hats. The customers were friendly as well. I saw not once but twice, someone state that it was their birthday and Scotty went to the back and came back with a desert with a single candle calling everyone's attention to sing Happy Birthday- and they did! We were traveling to Columbus from Minnesota to see the Zoo and the Wilds. We wanted a late breakfast. Found Scotty's online. The place is a gem. Our breakfast was fantastic. The Greek Omelette was amazing and huge. My American fries were perfect. The wheat toast was 5 grain. The staff knew we were first timers and singled us out right away. We had a great conversation with our waiter and hostess. We were given free French toast as new patrons. We took a cream cheese brownie to go that we ate before retiring that night in our hotel room. Hubby and I decided to stop at Scotty's Cafe for breakfast one Friday morning. What a pleasant surprise. We met Scotty and he was so nice and had a great sense of humor. Scotty's is a place we visit often. The food is excellent the staff is the best in Columbus and Scotty is a hoot. Mrs Scotty is a lady of no comparison, she makes divine cookies. Little crowded for my taste but I just don't like crowds. can't You cam't get better grub or be treated any better anywhere. Now my hope is the next time I get the opportunity to chow down there I haven't created more crowd. That would be great for business but not so good for this old grouch.
