First of all, our male waiter was wonderful, but I can't say the same for the food. We were served rotten fish, the fish smelled like it came from a sewer. I immediately knew something was wrong when I took the first bite and the smell and taste was causing me to want to throw up. I picked the filet up to inspect it and found a yellow spot on the under side of the fish that looked like some kind of sore that wouldn't brown like the rest of the fish, and stunk to high heaven. It didn't even have a ruined fishy smell, it literally smelled like it came from a sewer, and Lord the flies, I've never been in a restaurant with so many flies. We literally needed a fly swatter. There were also other people not with our party who got this same bad fish. Thank God I didn't get sick because I didn't swallow the fish. I immediately spit it out in a paper towel and went to the bathroom and washed my mouth out. However, my two cousins got sick after leaving the restaurant. I have never been one to smell my food before I bite into it, but now I understand the significance of smelling your food first before consuming it. I am 62 years old, and from this day forward, I will always smell my food before biting into it. This used to be our "go to" spot for a little dinner date on the way home, but lately it isn't what it used to be. The food hasn't been as delectable he last couple of times and the service we received didn't seem very hospitable, especially for a good ole mom and pop place tucked away. You can definitely tell they know who the weekly regulars are, although we weren't weekly regulars we were still paying customers. To begin with, the food and service are very good and the prices are reasonable. I would like to give Catfish Country 5 stars, but they still allow smoking in the restaurant. This is a huge turn-off for me and my family. Just because there is a separate smoking section does not mean the smoke will not drift everywhere and ruin a good meal. I mentioned my disdain for allowing smoking when I paid the bill and, although the young lady was very nice, I got the idea that regardless of what I said, they will never change. Therefore I will not be back to Catfish Country. I am sure countless other possible customers feel the same as I do. They are running far more non-smokers off than they are attracting smokers. When will people learn? They might as well have on their menu - All you can eat cigarette butts with special cancer sauce, topped with cigar and pipe ashes. You'll leave with a hacking cough and the stench comparable to that of a sewage treatment plant that has been on fire. Catfish Country is about 10 minutes from our house - so when we were both hungry for catfish, we drove over. Had we not been there before, we would have left without sitting down. Several lights were out. The ketchup and tartar sauce containers on our table needed cleaning. The restaurant was empty and there were 5 employees in the dining room. It took 7 minutes for a server to approach our table. The menus she brought were stained. We overlooked all of this and placed our order. The hush puppies were good - hot and flavorful. The catfish appeared to be overcooked or cooked in old grease - very dark. Surprisingly, the flavor was okay. My husband ordered greens; he said they must be out of the can because they had no seasoning. I ordered fried okra; it was okay. Both restrooms were dirty. The sink in the women's restroom looks like it may fall off the wall at any minute. A dismal place and a poor experience. We won't return. read more

Great feed for our family! Came down from New England for visit with grand kids, and six of us stopped here on a Fri. evening.
