My father and I were in Jackson for a medical visit and decided to eat at Catfish Galley for lunch. I've seen it several times in Jackson, but have never stopped. The place was packed! We seated ourselves as soon as we walked in, was waited on super quick and our food was out before we knew it. Our waitress brought fresh hush puppies while we waited. The food and service at the Catfish Galley are great!! We've eaten there for many years - and keep going back! I just recently became of a problem, however. In Tennessee (as with most/all states), it is illegal for a business to add a service charge for use of a debit card - although it is legal to do so for an actual credit card. Haven't been here in years but my son wanted to try it. The service was very slow and we were not getting our drinks refilled. The fried catfish was not that good. We didn't finish what we had because it was nowhere near as good as Catfish Cabin. It's hard to find good fried catfish. This is not the place. The fried okra was just ok but the bottom layer was sitting in grease so we didn't eat it all. The hush puppies were good. Almost as good as Catfish Cabin. Their baked potato was better because they were generous with the butter and cheese. Catfish Cabin is not. We sat under a large air conditioner vent or something that my son said looked like it hadn't been cleaned since the 1980s. I didn't look until I was finished eating. Kind of gross. This place was ok but overall not as good food as Catfish Cabin and not as nice an atmosphere. We won't ho back. read more

I was really looking forward to some great catfish, but what I got was a great big let down. The hush puppies although pipping hot were very greasy. I got the 12 oz lemon pepper grilled catfish which was under done, and lacked all flavor... you couldn't taste even an essence of the lemon pepper, it just had a yellow tint to the bland fish. This fish comes with 2 sides. They were out of fried green tomatoes so I chose a side salad and loaded baked potato ... on my plate when it came out was an extra surprise toast and a weird tasteless Rice pilaf neither of which were on the menu as coming with the plate. I didn't eat more than one two bites of my fish, and both bites had pin bones. The ranch dressing for the salad was awful bottled dressing like the cheap kind you get from Sams club, so if you like homemade ranch order some other kind of dressing. My husband ordered the seafood platter. The shrimp were butterflied and cooked until dry. The fried scallops were good, once you took the breading off. They were frozen, not made in house. The fried catfish was the best part of both meals, and the 2 pieces on the platter were really just one fillet cut in half. My husband generally likes any kind of stuffed crab, homemade or frozen but he took one bite and left the rest on his plate because it was terrible. As you can see in the picture it was way over cooked until dark brown. The waitress was nice, but to start with brought us someone else's food. Sat it down in front of us and told us what it was. I said, "we didn't order this." So she then picked it up and carried it to the next table. Then brought us the correct dishes but didn't check on us again besides to drop off our check. I wouldn't visit this place again nor would I recommend it to anyone I know. The restaurant was old and dated, and had a lot older clientele. The older gentleman next to us kept passing gas which absolutely didn't enhance our experience at all... but at his age I'm guessing my he couldn't help it. This is a restaurant seems to cater to the older crowd, it ... no alcohol was on the menu, there was no compromise on the way things were made. My husband asked if he could get his fish on the platter grilled and the answer was no, we only grill the "grilled fish on these 2 dishes in this section". My food was good/ok, but the service was excellent. Tonya was my server, and she was very pleasant and personable. I ordered the catfish, fried okra, steamed broccoli, and coleslaw. The catfish was not very hot. I prefer my fried catfish straight from the grease to my plate/table immediately. The breading on the fish was average and tough. The okra was delicious, but I went there for the catfish. The coleslaw was good; however, the steam broccoli should be renamed to a bowl of liquid butter with broccoli submerged in butter. I love this place, as you might have noticed. I am guaranteed to hear the oldest version of "Hey Good Lookin" on the Muzak, and it makes me 4 years old again. It's clean, but old-timey, and everyone who works there is good. We like Tini especially, but this time there was a pretty young woman walking around with a lovely smile on her face. Could that mean she actually liked working there? We really go there for the catfish, but the second- best thing is the baked potato with butter and sour cream--no, wait! It's the onion rings! You also win with the fried green tomatoes! I always say I'm going to try something else on the large menu, but the heart wants what it wants. The prices don't make us cry as the servings are gracious and we always have leftovers. When you stop in you'll know if I'm there because I'm cute and I am really happy! read more

My husband and I found this online, was driving through Jackson and decided to give it a try. We both had 2 piece fried catfish, baked potato, and hush puppies with cole slaw. The fish tasted great but the filets are tiny. Small than a snickers bar. So order 3, not to. Also it was $9 for the two little pieces we did get, so a bit pricy from where we are used to eating fried catfish from. The hush puppies, they are a mix from a box. Sweet tasting but not homemade or special. The call ahead service worked well, friendly server, and they gave us a lot of hot sauce, and tarter sauce, as well as plastic wear and napkins, the plan all along was to eat in the car. Catfish Galley has been a fixture in Jackson for years. On Saturday August 22, 2020, We ordered takeout by phone: 2 two piece catfish fillets meals with two sides. One order had sided of Corn on the cob and fries, and the other had sides of onion rings and a baked potato. It also included 3 hushpuppies. The meal was listed at 8.99, but I think they gave us the weekday lunch price , because I only paid 19.58 total. We ordered by phone and immediately left the house. It was ready when we got to the restaurant (@-15 minutes). We picked up via walk-in, but they have a pickup window as well. The inside was 6 foot distanced for the pandemic and masks are required. The pay desk was protected with a plastic screen. Everything appeared clean. The food was ample, hot and good. Even after the drive home, it was hot. They state in the menu that they fry in peanut oil. It tastes like they use real good oil. The portions were ample, and the fish pieces were large. It was a very good meal that was well worth the price. I was well pleased with the quality and the service. They have other offerings such as steaks and chicken on the menu. read more

I've never had a bad Waitress here or received bad service. The side items are good especially the white beans and hush puppies. The salads, burgers, onion rings all seem to be good. However, the fish IMO is not very good at all. I still would recommend it, just for all the other stuff. read more

We were driving through Jackson tonight and my boyfriend wanted some catfish. Found this place on Yelp and I'm so glad I did. The food was delicious. The portions were huge. So glad I wore leggings. I didn't even eat half of my plate but was too full for the free soft serve they offer. The sweet tea was so good I asked for to-go cups and my puppies will be happy with my doggie bag. The shrimp scampi is different than what I pictured but it has this thickened butter sauce on it that's phenomenal. They had every sauce you could want with the fish; tarter, hot sauce, malt vinegar, and pepper sauce. The hush puppies were very flavorful, not too greasy. My boyfriend didn't care for the onion rings but he doesn't like beer batter so that is the reason. They were cooked well. Our waitress was very nice and stayed on top of our drinks. Food came out quickly. I can't say enough. If you are in Jackson and hungry I highly recommend Catfish Galley. Our total with two teas was $27. Not bad at all. Definitely worth it. read more

We don't usually like hush puppies, but I was hungry when a basket of them was delivered right after the ice water. They were actually very tasty! We ordered a seafood platter to split. It was two pieces of fish, 3 shrimp, 4 scallops and 1 crab cake. The breading was so thick, it overpowered the seafood. I had to peel it off to taste the contents. The cocktail sauce tasted like straight catsup. No horseradish. Similarly the tartar sauce tasted like straight Miracle Whip. After the first bite of the crab cake all I could taste was the bread stuffing. You get two sides with the meal. My baked potato was delightfully flaky and hot. But my husband chose bean soup which he didn't finish because it was just blah. Service was mediocre. And the reason the prices seem reasonable is that without all the breading, the seafood offerings are minuscule. All in all, I could never recommend this place. read more
