The meal started with a complimentary portion of bacon rinds, which weren't rinds at all but a flour and corn snack with a bacon-y taste and a spicy tang. They enticed me to buy a bag for the ride back to St. Louis. Other than that the service was very good and the 2-piece fish meal with sides was acceptable. It was a good value. I'm hoping the chewy catfish and the deep fried okra that lacked crispness were rare miscues from the kitchen. The creamy coleslaw was very good. This restaurant appears to be a local favorite for sure. Our group was a party of 5, and we got here before the mad rush. Bf and I are visiting from CA and this was our first time here. Within 30 minutes though, there was not an empty table in sight. We were there for the $13.99 AYCE of course. I have to admit, I do not like catfish. I avoided it when it arrived to the table. I loved the fried okra!!! I enjoyed the hush puppies, fried corn, fried chicken and cucumber salad. The fried shrimp was meh. Then it was time for me to try the catfish. Deep breath. I noted how well it was fried and took my 1st bite without sauce. Wow! Dipped it into Kettle sauce. Oh dang! The thin but crispy cornmeal batter was seasoned very well. The fish portions were meaty and stayed moist. That Kettle sauce is bomb. I was happy and relieved the catfish tasted so fresh and clean, not muddy like all the other times I've had it at other places. A mom and pop restaurant whose specialty is fried catfish and they have it in abundance. The best deal is the all you can eat shrimp, chicken, and catfish with three sides for $12.99. Based on the catfish alone this is a five star joint all day but you need more than just that to earn stars. We ordered the all you can eat and they do bring a ton of food. That being said the hush puppies are tasteless, the potato wedges came out cold, and the fried shrimp was just terrible. Based on everything this is truly a two star experience until we ordered pie, the pie alone bumped them up a full star. I'm thinking the winning combo here is catfish and pie, you can keep the rest. Came in after hiking nearby and working up an appetite. Perfect solution for two hungry hikers. We chose the all you can eat lunch for $13.99 on a Sunday afternoon. You can see the platter is loaded with catfish, fried shrimp and fried chicken. The chicken was by far our favorite, followed by the fish and we were not fans of the shrimp. We chose the sides of cucumber salad, coleslaw and applesauce. The coleslaw was the favorite of the three and cucumber salad was also good. The applesauce wasn't anything special...just applesauce. New owners & remodeled- I think the place is A-OK, but not great now. (More professional hours & better dining room, but lost some heart) Fried catfish- tasted OK, but was smaller & tougher fillets (vs chunks) than what should be at a "Catfish Kettle"... When the retired Home Ec teacher keeps asking "are you sure this is catfish", it is not a good sign. Fried chicken-seemed to to be all breast meat chicken tenders with homemade breading... I really liked how juicy it was even though the outside looked overdone. For my low salt taste buds, this had too much salt. Fried shrimp- this seemed to be the pre-breaded frozen type Hush puppies- tasted good, but very GREASY Cole Slaw- creamy & good (with added pepper) Fried okra- pretty good, but not great Cucumber Salad- this came from 2 batches... The food was amazing, we ordered the all you can eat lunch special which is a choice of catfish, shrimp and chicken served family style, we ordered catfish and shrimp, the portions were huge, far more than we could eat, you also get as many sides as you want (we got baked beans, potato wedges, and coleslaw) all very good! The service absolutely sucks. We came in with a party of 47and they feed all the people around us who had just go there then they feed one table at a ti. E which took 2 hours to complete the feeding. Made a quick stop here for lunch. Trying to park is difficult if you have a large vehicle. The interior is very casual and has a country-diner feel. My family and I seated ourselves, and were quickly served. The waitress was very friendly and brought a free appetizer to our table. It's chips that resemble bacon, but are not cooked consistently. Some are very crunchy and some are very airy, but all of them are extremely over-seasoned and will quickly dry out your mouth. They're alright, but they're also spicy. Just a warning. My family and I split 6 pieces of fish and 6 butterfly shrimp, with potato wedges, fried okra, and macaroni and cheese for sides. The macaroni and cheese resembles what you would find in a fast-food restaurant, although some of it was a little cold. The potato wedges were forgotten unfortunately. Our waitress checked on us several times and provided adequate service although forgot to fill up my coffee twice. The catfish came in very thick pieces, but they were so thick that they were chewy and not good. The butterfly shrimp was though. It was flavorful and cooked good and not overly huge like the fish. A good meal to share with someone. I ordered cheesecake for dessert. They have many different kinds of pies and they're on display at the front when you first walk in. Did not love this place. I had the fish, 2 piece with potatoes and fried okra. I disliked the fried okra. All you could taste was the fry. The potatoes were ok but nothing special. The fish seemed over fried and dry. Had to use tarter sauce for some flavor. All in all this is nothing special. If you are really into fried, tasteless food this will be the place for you. They did have a decent online menu and a drive thru for ordering, which was nice for Covid. read more
