So I drive by Catfish Sam's on practically a daily basis and finally went for lunch. The specials run about 8 bucks and they bring a bunch of sides to your table family style: coleslaw, pinto beans, tomato relish, okra and pickles, onions, rolls, and hush puppies. You also get plenty of fish on your lunch platter, so don't load up early! As a hot sauce snob, I have to recommend their house bottle that's on the table- very good! Found this place on Groupon and man am I glad I did. This was a little farther into Arlington than Mapquest showed but once we pulled up around 5:00pm on Saturday to see the parking lot was pretty busy, both my husband and I said, I bet this place will be good. We were quickly seated and soon after our lovely waitress comes over and takes our drink order. A minute later she comes back and we don't just have our drinks but this awesome setup that included: bowl of pinto beans, basket of hush puppies & little toast, a cold plate with coleslaw, green tomato relish, onion & pickles & pickled okra. Oh and I can't forget, it also came with rolls. We got to enjoy a bit and she kindly came back and took our order, also explaining to us newbies that if we shared a plate, the other person will be charged 5.99 for the setup, so heads up to those that want to do that. I ordered the small order which came with 2 nice pieces of catfish and choice of fries or baked potato, I chose fries (they are fajita fries-which I love). My husband chose the large order which came with 5 pieces and fries or baked potato, he chose the baked potato and it only comes with butter and sour cream. Our little one got the kids catfish meal, the catfish is usually one big piece that has been cut into 4 equal strips and it also came with fries. I promise you, I think our food came out in like 6 or 7 minutes, something ridiculously fast for a sit down restaurant but then again, I bet the cook just starts frying as soon as people start coming in. Now regarding flavor: The beans are just pinto beans, not under seasoned, not over seasoned, just right to prep you for your main course and my daughter couldn't have enough. The hush puppies were great finger length puppies. I am a little strange and enjoy dipping them in their tarter sauce. Green tomato relish is awesome. Not too overly sweet like bread & butter pickles, but just enough. The coleslaw was fresh, still a bit crunchy and not too sweet. The pickles and pickled okra were great, I should have asked for more since our kid ate most of it. The catfish was great, you could tell it was pretty fresh, didn't have too fishy of a taste, it was white & flaky, not too much cornmeal and piping hot. The fries were fajita fries which like I said before were pretty good. The baked potato, only comes with butter and sour cream, luckily for my husband he only likes butter on his potato. All in all, this will be one of top places to come for catfish, my other tops are Top Cat and Awshucks. It is a little pricey but for great fish, I am always willing to pay whatever. read more

My wife and I have been looking for a good catfish place for several years. I heard about Catfish Sam's from a friend and decided to try it out. I checked the reviews on-line to see what may be expected. The "setup" fee was explained on the menu. I think it is a good idea to discourage "freeloaders" who go to a restaurant, don't order any food and expect to eat for free. I don't want the price of my meal increased to pay for theirs because they are too cheap to pay for their own. By the way, it is not in a ghetto, yes you may see someone who is not Lilly-white in the neighborhood, but just lock the doors on your limo, tell your driver to not pick up strangers and you should be okay. From our experience, it is underrated in most of the reviews. The hush puppies were great, not too hard and not overcooked. The catfish was cooked just right and was piping hot. Jean had the small meal and came home with a doggie bag, I had the medium meal. I was a little worried that the 3 fillets would not be enough to fill me up, but they were more than enough for this 6'-2", 220 lb hungry man. We went at 6 PM on Saturday and they were busy the service was great even with a good sized crowd. We will definitely go back on a regular basis. read more

This place is very over rated. Went here after hearing positive reviews form everyone. Ordered the catfish dinner which was 17.99 or 16.99 a person which I think is very high. The hush puppies have no flavor at all. The fish has an extra extra fish taste to the point where hot sauce didn't even help it.
