The smoked meats are some of the best around. We had brisket, sausage and even tried the ribeye. Staff here is top notch. They serve local Wagyu and smoke everything onsite. The meats are certainly juicy and smoked to perfection. I understand a bit more about people lining up for this food. That's just about where goes from great to ok. The BBQ sauce on the table was meh. The mustard sauce though gets a pass for sure and hit all the right notes. I guess even BBQ is very subjective like sushi. Some people like it and others don't. In this case it was the sauce that brought the experience down. I won't be back but that just leaves room for the next person.

    Potato salad was really bad

This spot in North Dallas has been on my radar for a while. Many good reviews are posted. As soon as I touched down in Dallas on a Thursday, I started making my way there. I got there around lunch time and found street parking. Upon entering, a small portion of the left of the restaurant is for ordering and the right side is for dining. There was plenty of seating area with large tables. The lunch time crowd build up was definitely in effect but the line wasn't long. While waiting in line, my focus was on deciding what to order. I always get brisket as a benchmark to compare with all other bbq places. When my turn came I ordered a brisket sandwich, a turkey sandwich, potato salad, coleslaw, and 2 beef ribs. The worker taking my order replied that I probably want one beef rib. It did not occur to me that these were the huge dino ribs at around $40 a pound. I took his advice and the one rib was more than enough. Everything was packed up to go and my total was $104. The one beef rib was a bulk of the price. Ok, so three of us tried some of the bbq and the sides. No great feedback was given from them. I got to try everything. The brisket was tender but not flavorful. The coleslaw flavor was undesirable as well as the potato salad. The smoked turkey had a good smoke flavor to it. The beef rib had more marbled fat than meat throughout most of it, however it did have a nice black pepper seasoning to it. The bbq sauce was not great either. Hopefully they were having an off day, but I doubt it and the cost of everything was too much for it not to be great.

Definitely one of the best BBQ in DFW! Limited hours but we had gone around 12 on Friday and no line. If you sign up for their emails they'll notify when there's no line, too. Softest Dino rib I've had in DFW yet, so juicy! Sides were great too which makes the difference always. Will definitely be back, 100% worth making it in the limited hours if you get the chance

We heard about Cattleack. They have limited hours to mostly weekdays, but with our luck they open the 1st Saturday of the month and we flew into Dallas that day! Once we got off the plane, we rushed to our rental car and made our way north to Cattleack. We got there around 1pm. The line wasn't too bad, it was still outside and into the parking lot. Nothing was sold out yet, until we inched closer to the front. They sold out of burnt ends, bologne, beef ribs, and then all the sides except slaw. Since it was close to closing time they were giving a ribeye special, buy one get one free. It was a good deal but a lot of food, so we didn't get it. We ended up getting pork ribs, brisket, and turkey, with slaw and their complimentary bread and pickles. Their pork ribs were delicious, so was the turkey. The brisket was chopped up in pieces, which I wasn't fond of the chopping. My favorite was the pork ribs and turkey. They are heavy on the pepper, so it gave it a little kick if you ate a lot. Probably not good for younger kids. I love it though. They also give you their soft bread for free and I believe their pickles are homemade. Pickles, jalapeños and pickled onions were very good and complemented the meats. I do wish they open more hours though... so that people can try everything! No alcohol sold here, but you can bring your own. Plenty of seating inside and some outside. Parking is limited in the lot and lots of street parking. They close early too, at 2. So many limitations for good bbq. Wish they capitalize their worth and open up more.

Bbq plate! Look at those pork ribs!

Right off the airplane and drove to Cattleack. Arrived around 1pm. Beef ribs ran out and so did all the sides except last of coleslaw. We got turkey, pork ribs, brisket and slaw. Super peppery but I like it, may be too peppery for people. Bread and pickles included. Free and the best bread Homemade pickles, jalapeños and onions Plenty of seating

This was my last must try BBQ spot around DFW area and I wished I had it sooner! Everything I got was good, my favorite were the pork ribs and the wagyu briskets. Cornbread was also very yummy. The sides were solid. Service was great, inside was clean and plenty of seatings. They also have outside seating so that was nice too.

    Inside with fun decor!

I wish I had a better experience at Cattleack but unfortunately I left feeling a bit disappointed, especially after having to wait for a very long time. Since they have very limited hours on the weekdays, I finally managed to visit with my fiance on a Thursday. We arrived at around 11:30am and ended up waiting about 40 minutes before we even made it inside. Once inside, there is more waiting in line until you finally get to the counter to order your food (this took us probably another 20 minutes or so). By the time we got to order, they were already out of a few items including the cornbread which was a side that I was very much looking forward to. So we ended up getting the brisket, original sausage, and burnt ends along with the hatch chili mac & cheese, potato salad, and Mexican street corn. Among the meats, the sausage and burnt ends were both great and I especially enjoyed the burnt ends and how tender each piece was. Unfortunately the brisket fell flat for me; it wasn't very tender at all and underwhelmed me compared to how amazing the brisket is at Hutchins. For the sides, I loved the hatch chili mac & cheese and thought the potato salad and street corn were pretty standard. Overall I don't know that I would come back, and I would much rather visit Hutchins which has way better opening hours!

    Best meat in the world.

Finally made it to Cattleack Barbeque and it absolutely lived up to the hype a everyone feels like family atmosphere. I ordered the big platter that comes with a little bit of everything and it was stacked. Every single item on that tray was excellent. The brisket was hands down the best I have ever had. Perfect bark, incredibly juicy, and so tender it practically melted. It did not need any sauce at all. The ribs were spot on with great flavor and the right amount of bite. The sausage had a nice snap and was packed with flavor. Even the sides were great and definitely not an afterthought. And the Crack Cake was unreal. Moist, buttery, and completely addictive. We were seriously considering ordering another slice. You can tell they really care about what they are doing. No gimmicks, just amazing barbecue. If you are in Dallas and have not been here yet, you are missing out. Easy five stars. I will definitely be back.

Im not a native Texan but I've lived here for a decade now so I like to think that I've been to my fair share of BBQ places. Cattleack might be my new favorite! Everything we had was so good and tasty! Would highly recommend and I understand why it is so popular!

Cattleack!!! Wow !!! So so good Tender Smokey. Flavorful. Amazing bbq Beef ribs. So good. So soft. Even the meat on the bone so easy to eat Burnt ends. Ridiculous good so soft so amazing Turkey was very soft one of the best I really liked both briskets. Waygu and pastrami. Both on point Corn bread. Is a must here Honestly nothing was bad here. And free beer

Back for a second time and it was even better than the first! Absolutely blown away by the pastrami brisket and Wagyu beef cheeks. The ribs are tremendous. Turkey is top notch. The Wagyu bologna is highly underrated, too. Don't sleep on that one.

Best barbecue in town! We learned about this place online and it is worth the wait! The parking lot wasn't very large, but most people parked on the streets. I arrived around 9:50 AM before they opened on a Friday. We waited about an hour before we got our food, but it was totally worth it. We ordered three Texas Trinity Plates, Wagyu beef cheeks, turkey, cornbread, mac & cheese, and potato salad. I highly recommend the Texas Trinity plate if you want to try the brisket, sausage, and the ribs. Our favorite was the brisket because it melted in your mouth and it was very soft. We also recommend the Wagyu beef cheeks, which is one of their seasonal items. And also get the cornbread!!! The ambiance is very good as well. Once you get your food from the line, you sit down at the picnic tables and everything else is self serve. They also have their sauces at each of the table. Even though we arrive before they're opening time at 10 AM there was already a line so I highly recommend getting there around 10 AM since you'll be eating around 11 AM. When we were done at around 12 PM the line was very long and people were waiting outside under the sun even though it was a Friday. Overall, I'd come back again since this is the best brisket I've ever had!

OMG! It has been 10 years since I last came here, and it is every bit as good. We arrived shortly before 2 pm after driving in from out of state. Staff kindly informed us they had sold out and were closed. We were permitted to enter and use the restroom. As we were preparing to leave, we were informed that they had enough brisket left for two sandwiches and a few sides. Holy cow!!! It was delicious and flavorful, with the pickles, pickled onions, and white onions as a cherry on top. The mac and cheese was thick and creamy, with just the right amount of chili heat. Mixed with spiral noodles, it left me scraping the container clean. The potato salad was creamy but seasoned so you tasted each ingredient, not the dressing. The vinegar slaw was balanced with green cabbage and celery, and there was no bite but a smooth apple cider accent. The open long tables encourage you to talk with people you don't know. A must-try for any visit to the city, but come early and be prepared to order when it is your turn. With a tip, it cost about $60, including two bottles of water. The best meal I have had in days.

When is pastrami brisket on the menu?

The weekly specials are posted on their website. Pastrami brisket is a weekly special and you can see if it is available by checking the website that week.

If you are going to get 2 sides which two?

Burnt end beans are a must.

What time do you usually sell out of stuff on a Saturday? I can't get there until 12:30 to 1pm

Oh my. Unfortunately I wouldn't bother. Anything you want might be gone by noon

Are you only open the first Saturday of the month or every Saturday?

    1st Saturday

Can I pre-order for Saturday 9/3 for pickup?

Not on Saturday but you could on Friday

    Do they take Apple pay?

I know they do not take cash only cards. They do have and iPad pay. Call them To be 100%

Are you able to preorder carry out on either Thursday or Friday?

Yes. Please see web site for all the details

How are you going to be closed on a Saturday though?

    Don’t understand your question

Is the line for Saturday whole hog substantially longer than the normal Thu/Fri line of you get there when they open? Are they serving full menu on Saturday?

Yes to both. Overall, a significant longer line. The full menu is served.

Do they serve Beef Ribs and Burnt ends on the two days they are open? Or just the on Saturday they are open? And what time are they open Saturday's; Same times and Thursday's and Friday's?

They serve it every day they are open... Thurs/Friday for lunch and that first Saturday of the month. But it runs out fast!

    Can you order to-go?

    Yes

    Is it wheelchair accessible?

Yes it is! Great, great bbq joint!

Do they do catering? 50-60 people

Yes they do but you have to order two weeks in advance! Trust me too it is soooo worth it! :)

What day is generally less busy--Thursday or Friday? Are strollers allowed in line?

I took my stroller in and it was fine. We were there on a Thursday. Thankfully the line is inside so it's cool.

Is there a wait before the restaurant opens?

Yes. They open at 10:30am and people line up way before that. It could take 45 minutes to get thru the line once it opens depending on what time you arrive. Sometimes more than that. But it's so worth it.

I'm allowed to bring beer into the restaurant?

    Yes it is always

Do you sell the rub that you use for your ribs,if not would you share the ingredients?

soon you will be able to purchase the rub

Subtle & distinct rub. Very crisp but juicy. Nice smoke. 4 excellent sauces if you want them. The Dino beef rib was perfect. Salt & pepper infused. Moist with right texture, not fall off the bone, some gentle pull, but bendy...which is the best way in my opinion . Likewise for the brisket! The sides were perfect, the crisp slaw was tangy & not drowning in sauce. The potato salad was infused with scallions. Also right amount of dressing. Well seasoned. The biggest compliment: you really need no sauces for the meat. Thats what great BBQ should be. Maybe small dabs intermittently. Mind you, the sauces are awesome, but I preferred vinegar for beef & blue cheese for wings. Again: sparingly, letting the meat shine. If I have to critique a 5 star: maybe have a heat lamp. Because even the best brisket can get dry if you linger. Out of 4 big pieces, half a piece got a bit dry, but the rest stayed succulent. Ha ha. Nice staff. Nice guests during the football World Cup. The first stop was at the pit master to choose the meat and I made sure to tell him it was my first visit. I got a juicy chopped brisket there. The next stop was where I chose my bread (I again mentioned that it was my first visit) and the person there recommended that I get the jalapeño bun and it was really good. It was not too spicy and added a nice flavor to the sandwich. He also suggested the street corn and the macaroni and cheese and I enjoyed those as well. I had a sprite fountain drink which did not taste that great so I got the sweet tea for my refill and that was really good. All the food was really good and there was plenty for me to take back to the hotel. I liked the fact that they had to-go containers and bags readily available so I didn't have to go back to the register to ask. I didn't try the peach cobbler until a couple days later but it was really good as well. I would definitely dine here if I am in Texas again and I highly recommend this restaurant. Everyone I spoke to was really nice and helpful throughout my visit. There were people walking around and checking on everyone and one disposed of my tray/trash while I was getting a refill and another brought the to-go container and bag to me since I did not see the spot where they were situated. It was a great start to my visit.

Walking in the door into the dining full bar area,we were cheerfully greated by the bartend-ress on protocol. 48 hours into this review and I'm just at 3 paragraphs and deciding how long or not this is going to be. Texas barbecue is so dear to my heart I'm feeling an extensive review coming on. Let me finish this paragraph by mentioning a significant historical fact regarding bbq just a few blocks from here. " The" king of Dallas barbeque started not far from here. In 1935 Red Bryan started a BBQ business and became a legend. Passing the torch to his son Sonny Bryan who solidified the elevated smoking of brisket in Dallas. That era has passed and now.... We have a new movement. With the price of beef, personnel retention, operating expenses,it's gotta be one of the hardest operations in food service. But,Red,Sonny and others did it and the bar is raised for anyone else who expects you to patronize their establishment and pay today's prices. I was very disappointed in the brisket here. I should have taken it back but, wasn't in the mood. While the owners may be connected to Lockhart Texas BBQ royalty, you can't rest on your laurels. Let's give them some time to tweek the operation before we try again. At this time it's a no go.

Even though the playground is usually his favorite spot, he didn't hesitate & insisted we go to Kafi for the brisket. That pretty much sums up how my family feels about this place. We've tried plenty of BBQ spots around Texas, but Kafi keeps bringing us back. The brisket is consistently excellent, and you can tell they use the highest-quality ingredients because the flavor really speaks for itself. Everything on the menu is done well, from the Wagyu and sausage to the burnt ends. It's become one of those rare places that the whole family gets excited about, and that's not something I can say about many restaurants

I follow the chef/owner on Instagram (@kafibbq), and the amount of effort and detail he puts into his craft has resulted in multiple return visits for me. This review is for my latest visit. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Kafi BBQ can be found in a shopping strip in Irving-Valley Ranch. Only opened Friday - Sunday, on my most recent Sunday visit around dinner time, Kafi was packed. The patrons were a great mix of families, BBQ lovers, and those looking for high quality Halal meats. Smoke was in the air. 1 Star. Service - The staff is super friendly and nice. Pro Tip - Go for lunch or before 6 before items are sold out. A few items were sold out on my most recent visit (my fault I arrived at 6:45) and the staff weren't aware of what was available, leading to some confusion, but they were so nice it didn't impact my meal. 1 Star. Food - By now, you've probably read or heard about Kafi's Wagyu Brisket. For me, I love following @kafibbq on Instagram so I can see what Salahodeen is cooking up. On this visit, it was the Brisket Sandwich. First off, the house baked bread roll is soft, but firm enough to hold Kafi's famous brisket on a pile of home made cole slaw and pickles. The result was one of the best BBQ sandwiches I've eaten. The bite was soft, smokey, crunchy, and tart (from the pickles). It was a special, and I'm not sure if Kafi will keep this on the menu, but I hope they do. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. It's pricey, but it's worth it. While the brisket is great, I suggest you follow them on Instagram to see what's cooking and plan your visit around the specialty items. 1 Star.

She is freaking awesome Food: 10/10 honestly my favorite bbq joint. From the meats to the sides and drinks. Community tea, so a nice stringer brew i like! Its rare to find a bbq joint that has delicious sides AND delish meats. Yummmmmm When you order sliced brisket they ask if you want moist (with fat) or lean. The poblano sausage (beef) is so good. Try their HG brisket quesadillas!!!! Brisket heavy and excellent for the price. I love all their sides. My fave is the bacon ranch potato salad. Their mac n cheese is really good but not my go to. Their corn mixed with the mac n cheese or potato salad is yummers too Listen, just do yourself a favor and "treat yo self" to Hurtado's. Dont walk, RUN out the door to get there

The brisket was nice and fatty and juicy, well seasoned. The sausage glistened and was very good. The sides were also really good from the mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. The service was welcoming and fast. It was late in the evening on a Friday night and it was pretty empty that night, but that was ok. We will come back for sure. They food is on point.

But I'm highly disappointed. Service was shit. They said "we are out of a lot of stuff" "idk if we even still make the chicken" it was just pathetic. Giving very careless service. Even when I came and went from the front door- bartender seemed like he hated his life. This was my first visit and I was thinking it was a restaurant- no, definitely more cafeteria vibes. And I was hoping the food was gonna be better bc I saw good reviews, but nope. I promise you I will never go back there. I'm disgusted with everything. Don't know why there were any good reviews in the first place I had better food and service at a fast food place. I'm mad I wasted my gas money and $25. Trash. Maybe terminate everybody, and start over bc this place isn't going anywhere but down. I never leave reviews this bad but I'm legit disgusted by the entire experience thanks to the staff giving off so much "I don't care" energy.
