One of the few famous BBQ places I had not tried in the two years I have lived here. (Side note: this is ALWAYS a great place to stop for a bathroom break when you are visiting the Bishop Arts District.) We came in for a snack and, of course, left completely full. My friend absolutely loved the burnt ends. He liked them so much that after we finished the first order, he went back and got a second one, plus some brisket and elote. I thought everything was good, but I will say the menu felt a little limited. This is definitely one of those places where I am glad I finally tried it because it is part of the local DFW BBQ experience, but it is probably not somewhere I would specifically seek out again. Lockhart Smokehouse sits on a corner located in the Bishops Art District. I arrived on a Monday at 11:30. Parking was not bad, but it could be a challenge depending on the day and time you arrive. The restaurant was clean and the prices were very good. The BBQ was okay. I had a brisket sandwich which tasted as if the brisket had been warmed up instead of freshly smoked. My husband and I had plans to eat somewhere else, but when we walked by this spot, I had to stop in to try some brisket. Along with our brisket, we also tried their Spicy Mac 'N Cheese, and Bacon wrapped Jalapeño. The jalapeño was far too spicy for me. I'm not a big fan of the Velveeta style mac and cheese in Texas, but theirs was one of the better ones I had on my trip. The spice was a nice addition. The brisket was obviously the star of the show. When in Texas, you have to get BBQ, and I'm very glad I was introduced to Lockhart Smokehouse in the Bishop Arts District. The neighborhood itself is a great bonus. It's walkable, full of shops, and makes for a really fun area to spend some time before or after eating. But the reason you're here is the BBQ, and it delivers. The brisket was the star for me. Super tender, full of flavor, and exactly what you want from Texas BBQ. The ribs were just as good, fall-off-the-bone and well seasoned. The pulled pork was also really solid. The brisket was good, as were the ribs. I didn't really like the sausage, which is pretty rare for me. The stuffed jalapeno was very good. The brisket deviled eggs were okay, but I like regular deviled eggs a lot better. I put the leftovers in the fridge and they did not keep well at all. Eat them when you buy them. So, the mac & cheese... when I took a bite, I was thinking "Not bad... pretty good. No better than at most places". Then, that little spicy kick hit. It didn't change the flavor or the texture, but something about that little bit of heat elevated the whole thing. Like most places, they had pickles, jalapenos, and onions for garnish. There, we got their weekly special, which was a brisket pastrami, their brisket, as well as some baked beans and mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was very standard. It wasn't anything special. The baked beans were all good but again nothing special The really neat dish that they offered which was the brisket pastrami was really tender and it's more so of a marinated brisket and there isn't really much of a pastrami vibe except for its vibrant pinkish color. The brisket was very tender, but a bit too fatty in some spots. Still, very soft and it just falls apart really well. Nice staff and quick service. I was pleasantly surprised by my recent visit. This was only my second time here. The first being about 15 years ago when I initially moved to Dallas. During lunch, I ordered the smoked turkey and also sampled the sliced brisket. Both were excellent, and I realized I've been overlooking this spot. Deep flavor in the crust, big globes of delicious fat, and super juicy soft medium rare meat. Turkey was super moist and a white meat cut - so that's always impressive. Pork ribs were good, not great. I have yet to find pork ribs the way I like them in the 20+ Texas bbq spots I've been. The potato salad recipe has changed and the portions are noticeably smaller. The brisket was overcooked, and while two of the four ribs were a solid 10/10, the other two were so tough I couldn't even chew through them. There are 2 entrances and you walk to the back to order and receive your food and can grab a table after you order. There is also a full bar. Ordering and receiving the food was pretty quick.
