I was in Texas for a work event and my colleagues invited me to have some Texas BBQ at Cattleleack Barbeque. When we arrived around 1pm there was a line out the door. After getting inside I could tell why. The BBQ smell hits you as you open the door and it smelled sooooo good. They had a giant menu written onto the wall. Some of the meats were sold out. We debated for a bit and then decided to do a group order. Our Group of 7 people ordered the Cattleleack Platter and sides of burnt end beans, potato salad, cole slaw, and Mac and cheese. Oh and don't forget to ask for cornbread too. Inside tey had large tables and benches to sit at and we secured our spot. The food was delicous. The Beef Rib was huge and melted in my mouth. The brisket was amazing and seasoned well. Everything tasted great. Everyone ate til they were full and we still had leftovers. I ate them later at night and they were still good. My first visit. I've been meaning to try this place for some time. I arrived during busy hours on a holiday weekend to try their brisket. The line took over 1.5 hours before I was able to place my order. At the register, I noticed I had been double charged and pointed it out to the cashier. Mistakes happen, especially during busy hours. However, she initially denied it and removed meat from my plate to reweigh it. The smoked meats are some of the best around. We had brisket, sausage and even tried the ribeye. Staff here is top notch. They serve local Wagyu and smoke everything onsite. The meats are certainly juicy and smoked to perfection. I understand a bit more about people lining up for this food. That's just about where goes from great to ok. The BBQ sauce on the table was meh. The mustard sauce though gets a pass for sure and hit all the right notes. I guess even BBQ is very subjective like sushi. Some people like it and others don't. This spot in North Dallas has been on my radar for a while. Many good reviews are posted. As soon as I touched down in Dallas on a Thursday, I started making my way there. I got there around lunch time and found street parking. Upon entering, a small portion of the left of the restaurant is for ordering and the right side is for dining. There was plenty of seating area with large tables. The lunch time crowd build up was definitely in effect but the line wasn't long. While waiting in line, my focus was on deciding what to order. I always get brisket as a benchmark to compare with all other bbq places. When my turn came I ordered a brisket sandwich, a turkey sandwich, potato salad, coleslaw, and 2 beef ribs. The worker taking my order replied that I probably want one beef rib. It did not occur to me that these were the huge dino ribs at around $40 a pound. I took his advice and the one rib was more than enough. Everything was packed up to go and my total was $104. The one beef rib was a bulk of the price. Ok, so three of us tried some of the bbq and the sides. No great feedback was given from them. I got to try everything. The brisket was tender but not flavorful. The coleslaw flavor was undesirable as well as the potato salad. The smoked turkey had a good smoke flavor to it. The beef rib had more marbled fat than meat throughout most of it, however it did have a nice black pepper seasoning to it. The bbq sauce was not great either. Hopefully they were having an off day, but I doubt it and the cost of everything was too much for it not to be great. read more

We heard about Cattleack. They have limited hours to mostly weekdays, but with our luck they open the 1st Saturday of the month and we flew into Dallas that day! Once we got off the plane, we rushed to our rental car and made our way north to Cattleack. We got there around 1pm. The line wasn't too bad, it was still outside and into the parking lot. Nothing was sold out yet, until we inched closer to the front. They sold out of burnt ends, bologne, beef ribs, and then all the sides except slaw. Since it was close to closing time they were giving a ribeye special, buy one get one free. It was a good deal but a lot of food, so we didn't get it. We ended up getting pork ribs, brisket, and turkey, with slaw and their complimentary bread and pickles. Their pork ribs were delicious, so was the turkey. The brisket was chopped up in pieces, which I wasn't fond of the chopping. My favorite was the pork ribs and turkey. They are heavy on the pepper, so it gave it a little kick if you ate a lot. Probably not good for younger kids. I love it though. They also give you their soft bread for free and I believe their pickles are homemade. Pickles, jalapeños and pickled onions were very good and complemented the meats. I do wish they open more hours though... so that people can try everything! No alcohol sold here, but you can bring your own. Plenty of seating inside and some outside. Parking is limited in the lot and lots of street parking. They close early too, at 2. Great brisket, super juicy and flavorful. The burnt ends were amazing too, definitely a 5/5. The sausage was good, but I've had better elsewhere, so I'd give it a 3.8/5. The broccoli salad pairs really well with the salty meat. It adds a sweet, fresh contrast that helps balance out the richness of the BBQ. The Mexican street corn is good, but it leans salty, which made it less of a favorite for me since the rest of the meats were already salty. I honestly wish they had a sweeter option, like creamed corn. The cornbread isn't bad, but I would've liked it to be a bit sweeter to better complement the meat. The crack cake is really good. My friend loved it so much that she bought four containers for herself in one visit. Overall, I'd rate the food a 4/5, but because the brisket, burnt ends, and broccoli salad were so good, I'd bump it up to a 5/5. I wish I had a better experience at Cattleack but unfortunately I left feeling a bit disappointed, especially after having to wait for a very long time. Since they have very limited hours on the weekdays, I finally managed to visit with my fiance on a Thursday. We arrived at around 11:30am and ended up waiting about 40 minutes before we even made it inside. Once inside, there is more waiting in line until you finally get to the counter to order your food (this took us probably another 20 minutes or so). By the time we got to order, they were already out of a few items including the cornbread which was a side that I was very much looking forward to. So we ended up getting the brisket, original sausage, and burnt ends along with the hatch chili mac & cheese, potato salad, and Mexican street corn. Among the meats, the sausage and burnt ends were both great and I especially enjoyed the burnt ends and how tender each piece was. Unfortunately the brisket fell flat for me; it wasn't very tender at all and underwhelmed me compared to how amazing the brisket is at Hutchins. For the sides, I loved the hatch chili mac & cheese and thought the potato salad and street corn were pretty standard. Finally made it to Cattleack Barbeque and it absolutely lived up to the hype a everyone feels like family atmosphere. I ordered the big platter that comes with a little bit of everything and it was stacked. Every single item on that tray was excellent. The brisket was hands down the best I have ever had. Perfect bark, incredibly juicy, and so tender it practically melted. It did not need any sauce at all. The ribs were spot on with great flavor and the right amount of bite. The sausage had a nice snap and was packed with flavor. Even the sides were great and definitely not an afterthought. And the Crack Cake was unreal. Moist, buttery, and completely addictive. We were seriously considering ordering another slice. You can tell they really care about what they are doing. No gimmicks, just amazing barbecue. Best barbecue in town! We learned about this place online and it is worth the wait! The parking lot wasn't very large, but most people parked on the streets. I arrived around 9:50 AM before they opened on a Friday. We waited about an hour before we got our food, but it was totally worth it. We ordered three Texas Trinity Plates, Wagyu beef cheeks, turkey, cornbread, mac & cheese, and potato salad. I highly recommend the Texas Trinity plate if you want to try the brisket, sausage, and the ribs. Our favorite was the brisket because it melted in your mouth and it was very soft. We also recommend the Wagyu beef cheeks, which is one of their seasonal items. And also get the cornbread!!! The ambiance is very good as well. Once you get your food from the line, you sit down at the picnic tables and everything else is self serve. They also have their sauces at each of the table. Even though we arrive before they're opening time at 10 AM there was already a line so I highly recommend getting there around 10 AM since you'll be eating around 11 AM. OMG! It has been 10 years since I last came here, and it is every bit as good. We arrived shortly before 2 pm after driving in from out of state. Staff kindly informed us they had sold out and were closed. We were permitted to enter and use the restroom. As we were preparing to leave, we were informed that they had enough brisket left for two sandwiches and a few sides. Holy cow!!! It was delicious and flavorful, with the pickles, pickled onions, and white onions as a cherry on top. The mac and cheese was thick and creamy, with just the right amount of chili heat. Mixed with spiral noodles, it left me scraping the container clean. The potato salad was creamy but seasoned so you tasted each ingredient, not the dressing. The vinegar slaw was balanced with green cabbage and celery, and there was no bite but a smooth apple cider accent. The open long tables encourage you to talk with people you don't know. A must-try for any visit to the city, but come early and be prepared to order when it is your turn. With a tip, it cost about $60, including two bottles of water. And they were on their game when bringing me here. Now I suggest coming as early as you can. You're gonna wait online, but trust me it's worth it. Make not of the specials. At the time they had a beef pastrami that knocked our socks off. Also, what they have is what they have. We got The LAST of the burnt end which almost made a half a pound. They were delicious all in the same. The sausages were fire, for real! They were mild and spicy and they brought the heat. The brisket I think was my favorite. It was literally the best I've ever had. It doesn't need the BBQ sauce in the table. They were more on the vinegary side which I wasn't in the mood for at the time. Came on the Fourth of July and waited in line about an hour and a half. But the wait was worth it! Even though you wait quite some time, when you get in, it is clean and calm with cafeteria style seating. The sausage was homemade and stuffed with cheese and chili. The brisket was moist and melt in your mouth. The turkey was juicy and had a nice bark on it. The Mac and cheese was creamy and had a nice crunch bread crumb on top. The beef rib was out of this world. It literally shreds between your tongue and the roof of your mouth because the fat is so well rendered. The bark was the perfect amount of flavor and salt/spice. Spending a week in the Dallas/Plano area this was the only place we came back to a 2nd time. When I told my friends that my first meal was such an incredible experience that it brought a little tear to my eye because I never in my life had BBQ this amazing (not so surprising since I am native life long New Yorker - our BBQ places generally are so so). They were intrigued and I was happy to go back to try more of the menu. My first outing was only for 2 people - we shared the Texas trinity and directed towards the burnt ends when they sold out of the beef rib (which was fortunate - this would have been too much meat for 2 people. They are Fred Flintstone sized lol). The burnt ends were my favorite - juicy cubes perfectly seasoned. Highly recommend if they are available (come early!). The sausage was amazing as well. The brisket was great, but actually way better when we specified a fatty cut on our second visit. The pork ribs were my least favorite, not to say they were bad, but it was just overshadowed by the greatness of other meats. Don't sleep on the sides - the mac and cheese is everything you want. Same with the burnt end baked beans. I loved the corn bread since it had jalapeno in the mix. We finished up with a piece of crack cake which gave me all sorts of nostalgia vibes with it strong yellow cake flavor, creamy custard and caramelized edges. The 2nd visit lived up to the hype despite the burnt ends being a bit over seasoned - which is understandable since we got the last .43lbs of it. All the seasoning sunk to the bottom. We got the Beef rib this time and this was simply incredible so much red tender meat and great flavor. As mentioned earlier the brisket was damn near perfect this time and the medium and spicy sausages were better than the mild we got earlier in the week. Pork Steak was a special, but we could have done without it - a little too dry compared to the other items. Pork ribs were the same as last time - recommend the beef and sausages over the pork items. The limited hours (only 10a - 2pm W-T-F and 1st Saturdays) make this less accessible than other BBQ spots, but getting here early makes it all worth while. BYOB, but sometime you can score a free beer. Plenty of seating inside and out. For me, Cattleack has set the standard to which all other BBQs will be compared. read more

Worth the wait! Waited less than 30 mins (was standing on line just outside the door to give a rough estimate). They ran out of the Beef Ribs (regular and special of the week - Pastrami), so we opted for the burnt ends. Well seasoned and sooo tender. Kinda glad we got these. The Trinity Platter is great to sample their brisket, pork rib and sausage (we picked the original #17 - mild) The Brisket was very tender, with a balance of meat and fat The Pork Rib was fall off the bone and flavorful. The Sausage had a great crumbly homemade texture. Mild still has a bit of a kick, which I enjoyed. Small side of Mac and Cheese was full of gooey cheesy goodness. It clung well to the mac. The Burnt End Beans had no burnt ends in the beans we got but can taste the flavor with the sweetness of the beans. Beans were well cooked. The Corn Bread had jalapeno! I'm normally not a huge fan of cornbread but the texture was amazing. I dipped it in the beans. Everything is salted/seasoned very well! The Crack Cake is pretty sweet, if you're into that. Personally too sweet for me. Texture was good though. There are bbq sauces and napkins on the tables (indoor and outdoor shaded seating). There are takeout containers by the water cooler if you're too stuffed. We polished off everything! Definitely worth the trek and the wait. Cattleack BBQ missed the mark on several things for me. First, the brisket flat was a bit tough and the point (fatty part) was a bit chewy. I think it was pulled from the smoker a bit too early. The baked beans tasted standard for me, with the added few pieces of burnt ends. Pricing is in line with the rest of the craft BBQ scene, but it just didn't quite match up with the quality of the food. As for the good, the pastrami beef rib was outstanding. Tender, beefy, not too salty, with a good amount of pastrami flavor shining through. No matter how much you prepare yourself, though -- that sticker shock really punches you in the face. At $40/lb, for one beef rib you're looking at $80. I had never tried a pastrami beef rib, so it was a definite splurge. I ate about half of it and there was plenty of meat leftover. I packed it up and brought it back home for my wife to try. It still tasted great. Glad to to have knocked this place off my bookmark list. read more

Today I tried the best brisket I have ever had in my life! Everyone was super friendly. I am having dinner later with family later so didn't get much only a slice of brisket and one rib. Absolutely the best brisket I have ever had, moist, tender, savory, perfect seasoning. And the ribs are also amazing with the slight hint of heat in the rub, ever so slight but appropriated. This may be one of the top 3 bbq places I've ever been to. Food, service and ambiance were perfect. House made sausages in three types, whole hog pulled pork, Wagyu brisket. All standouts. Second time in Dallas, and got to slip something during hectice family wedding weekend. My cousin recommended this and we arrived here at 10 am in the morning on a Saturday , and we were so lucky because usually they close on Saturday and only opens the first Saturday of the month! We ended up waiting for an hour and it didn't disappoint (?) I still couldn't tell the difference between the other famous bbq place that my family took me last time. While waiting, I just realized that this place was part of Michelin guide restaurant collection and got more excited. We ordered bunch of their special weekend cuts. Cattleack definitely knows how to cook BBQ. The brisket is legit -- tender, flavorful, and easily the highlight. The other meats we tried were solid as well. No complaints on the quality of the protein. The sides, however, were pretty mediocre and didn't stand out. On the dessert side, the crack cake and banana pudding were both excellent and worth ordering. Where this place really falls short is customer service. The owner and staff don't engage at all beyond the cashier taking your money. No interaction, no welcoming vibe, no pride shown in the food. Yuppy overpriced bbq, tailored for out of staters who moved here and don't know any better. Decor is cheap junk from hobby lobby or some other temu like shop. What you see in the picture was $102 for two plates and some sides. Thin slice of brisket ( didn't paass the bend test even closely), one rib and a sausage that would leave any woman dissatisfied if brought on a date. The location where this place is at is in the middle of offices and business that have made it clear they don't want the bbq place's parking there and seem keen to tow. Hands down the BEST, BEST, BEST barbecue we've ever had. Worth standing in line for on a Friday late morning. And the line was honestly not a huge wait for lunch time. We had the brisket and it was 10/10 perfection, truly just melts in your mouth and had the perfect amount of crust to it. The sides were insane - I was honestly speechless. The Mac, the beans, the cornbread, all of it. And the banana pudding!!?? OMG. We were so glad we ordered extra to take home. And seating was easy, FCFS tables AFTER you order, and it was never a long wait to be seated once you got your food. Very chill and casual environment. This will for sure be our first stop every time we're visiting Dallas. read more
