I really enjoy eating here. When I am in the mood for a steak or prime rib this is the only spot that come to mind. The Cowboy Cut Prime Rib is the best. With the salad, bread and other sides you get it is more than enough food. I see a few people complaining about the crab legs they get here and I must laugh. What a sophomoric move to order fish at a steakhouse. I mean it is called Cattlemens! I guess you are the same person that orders a porterhouse at Pier 39 and gets upset when it tastes like shoe leather. Get a grip on life. read more

This place honestly is not what it used to be. They have great services but great services doesn't make the food taste better. Neither does it forgive the fact we found a hair in our food. Like it was cooked in the meat. Not to mention when we told the waitress she was rolling her eyes and making annoyed faces as if we should be okay with hair in our food. My food (motherload burger) was very dry and had no flavor. It was also kind of cold not even warm. I would not recommend this place honestly it's not what it used to be. I would normally never ever dine at a place like this, but once in awhile curiosity kills the cat and we just couldn't resist. Ordered conservatively and got the 6 oz fillet Mignon cooked medium. It came out pretty rare and we suspected they had gotten the cooking temps mixed up on our order. Mainly because the man in our group who orders steaks 'as little cooked as legally allowable' steak was done medium and mine was redder then I like it. The beans are a joke. I suspect that is why they bring soooo little out. Nobody ate more then a scoop. Salad was decent. I enjoyed the family style with individual dressings. The sage butter sauce was tooooooo rich. The peppercorn sauce had a hint of spice which is nice. My pescatarian husband actually found something to eat. Can't go wrong with deep fried shrimp and french fries. It was calorific! We came to cattlemens for an after graduation dinner and it was fantastic. My dad really urged us to get the t-bone steak and I'm really glad he did. As we waited for our food we were served warm sourdough bread and a side salad. The bread was delicious and we kept asking for more which they were happy to do. I ordered my steak medium-rare with a baked potato. As other yelpers have pointed out they cook the meat just a little bit longer than asked so keep that in mind. But my steak came out medium so I was happy especially after tasting the first bite. I'm notorious for smothering my steak in steak sauce but not once did i have to reach for it. The baked potato was eh, but was saved from the bacon bits and cheese. For desert, my brother and I split the chocolate outlaw cake which was a great ending to our dinner. Love this place! Great place for steaks and any other kind of meat. I don't know why but I love coming here. We are always greeted with such enthusiasm. Once we had to wait an extra 30 minutes even though we had a reservation. They did not hesitate at all to compensate with complimentary appetizers! I love coming here for the $2 rib nights. I was originally brought here during my college days, for Monday night football... but who cares about football, because its BUCK-A-RIB night at cattlemen's. $3-$4 and I'm super full, totally sick of beef. I will eat salads for the next couple of days. Parking is ample. But business is booming, probably b/c theres not many dining options around here unless you want popeye's or subway or wendy's.... As far as the yumminess of the ribs during buck a rib.... Well you can order 20 ribs that come out on a silver platter (you get one t-shirt stating you are now in the 20 BONE CLUB) hahaha tacky cheesey, makes a good muscle tee if you're I dunno... like XXL. After for 5th or maybe 6th if you can even go that far.... You feel like you're eating tires covered in BBQ sauce. The beef ribs are HUGE like the size of my forearm practically. Chew chew chew chew.....Yeah, not so great. But if you're looking for a memorable time with some friends for cheap thrills, this will be something you will want to do once, maybe twice, each football season.... Their deep fried onion shoe string fries are super good. Pretty similar to what you get at buckhorn grill. Steaks are pretty good. they have the server tell you that their meat is from harris ranch and is aged for some 30 days... Def try their twice baked potaterrrrs. I had one of the steaks and it was pretty good. I liked how it came with some really thin onion rings, or whatever they're called. Hella greasy, but it's soo good. One thing I didn't like was that the salad didn't come individually. They combined everyone's salad into one small bowl. Even though it was unlimited salad, I'd rather have my own bowl. Wow had a great night! Driving up from San Jo every month I would pass by Cattlemens and dismiss it as a low brow, trucker pit stop for some decent-but-surely-disappointing steak. My GF and I got bored of the Davis scene and decided to venture out of Davis for our anniversary dinner. Why she chose Cattlemens, I do not know but hey a happy wife= a happy life am I right? Anyways, we arrived on a Thursday night at like 6:30pm and after bypassing one too many Romney 2012 bumper stickers, entered what seemed like a comfortable busy restaurant. We were seated in like 2 minutes, but if you come on a Friday or weekend night, be sure to make reservations, as a Thursday night was pretty hoppin'. After looking at the menu it was evident that we were going to get the "Dinner for two" which included an Appetizer, 2 Entrees, and 2 desserts for something like 56 bucks. Entrees come with unlimited salad, bread, a potato and beans. Between the two of us, we ordered the stuffed mushrooms, rib eye, steak and shrimp scampi, a pizooki thing, and the deep fried apple pie. What can I say? All the food was simple, yet delicious. Well cooked/ seasoned and full of flavor. Even though the steak and shrimp scampi was good, don't get it-- the rib eye or filet mignon would be a much better choice. Our waitress was very nice. She forgot to put in our order (which is fine, everyone makes mistakes) but apologized profusely for it and gave us free dessert. After driving past this place all through college and back-and-forth numerous times from the Bay Area, hubby and I finally tried this place out....and we left wondering WHY DID WE NEVER stop by sooner. We have been missing out! Cattlemens has a cozy atmosphere. And we got seated in one of the small booths. We ordered the special dinner combo for two which includes an appetizer, salad, bread, beans, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts. WOW...we were hungry from shopping at the outlet but this was more food than we could handle. We choose the Tumbleweed (shoestring onion rings) as appetizer. And it was so crispy....with a hickory salt taste. The batter was very light. Came with BBQ and ranch to dip. For the entree, hubby had the rib eye and I had the prime rib. Both were done to our liking. The meat was flavorful and cuts well. And the dessert....we had had too much by now and had it boxed. We had a slice of the triple chocolate cake and a mocha cake. They were big and evil slices! We will be back to try more...but no more combo dinners since we learned our lesson this time. Having an entree will be quite enough. read more

Many a time their broccoli is very salty, and sometimes overcooked, the steak might be lacking in complexity, but still this place is worth a try! Try their martini, and their stuffed mushrooms. If you can get over the large dead animals plastered to the walls, then you'll enjoy their food. The meat is pretty tender and are large portions. I always make sure to get the carmelized onions on top and well as their mash potatoes....delicious! I dont know if they still have this but for a once poor college student, $1 rib night makes life easier. The ribs were huge and I didn't know many guys that could eat more than 5 or 6. The service is ok, not great and the waits usually not too long, but the earlier you go the better, and be ready to eat! read more

I hate all the dead things on the walls and I'm not a country music fan by any stretch of the imagination, so the simple fact that I put up with those things says a lot about the food and the service. We've been going to Cattlemen's for 3 years, usually for birthdays, and I don't think I've ever had a bad meal there. The worst thing that's happened is the server forgetting to bring A-1 sauce to the table, but he was back with it in less than 30 seconds. I usually get the Pete's Special, but the guys get the ribs and big steaks, and they both rave about the ribs and how good the T-bone is. For 3 people we tend to rack up a bill over $100, but we get *a lot* of food for that. And go on Tuesdays when the bar drink special is a Long Island Tea. Holy carp, they make a good Long Island. It doesn't taste overpowering, but after 2, when you get up, you'll know you've been drinking. If you see me there, go ahead and point and laugh. I'm a stupid drunk ;) read more

We saw, we succumbed and I kind of wish we hadn't. This is a super friendly restaurant with *huge* portions. The people sitting around you look like they regularly enjoy the massive dinner portions, and throw in an appetizer or two before dessert. Seriously, some folks couldn't fit in the booth. Cue Jamie Oliver. In general, the food was OK. Each meal is served with a ho-hum salad and warm bread. We may have been the only customers who actually ate the salad... The meat is rumored to be fabulous. What I will say is the ribs are great. Get the ribs! Unfortch, my ribeye was way over cooked. Ugh, who eats meat this well cooked?! If you want medium rare, I suggest you say BLOODY. I didn't bother sending it back because the ribs my husband ordered were great, and a serving was large enough for both of us. So, let me reiterate. People who eat here often will not be able to fit into the booth. To save yourself the workout, order everything on the side. The meat is supposed to be really good, and the ribs indicate that the rumors are true. Make sure to emphasize how you want your meat done so you can enjoy the delicious meat. My friend recommended this place as a restaurant famous for its ribs. We came in a huge group of 15 people. They have a huge open seating area as well as a bar area. We hung out at the bar waiting for our table, and got to sample their new Rambouer chardonney, which was nice. The $2 ribs are definitely worth it. Each one is pretty big, very juicy, and two of them already filled me up. Along with that, my friend and I also shared their "star-ed" appetizer that was a combo of the fried mozzarella cheese sticks, fried zuccini, fried chicken, and fried onion rings. However, this plate was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. The onion rings were WAY overfried when they first brought it out. They looked like ashes o_O The other stuff just all looked over-cooked and not fresh, so we had them take it back. Fortunately, our waitress was super nice and brought us another plate, which was better...but still not that appetizing. We only ate a bit of it and then moved on to the ribs. The portions are all pretty big, so sharing family style is definitely good. Honestly I'm not a huge fan of bbq and ribs, but once in a while, it's pretty good. Our family has been coming here since back in the day and I mean way before Outback and Tahoe Joes. It has definitely taken on that commercial feel with the menus and items being offered( "would you like blue cheese for an additional 1.99?") but none the less the food is good, the prices fair, the portions decent and overall it doesn't feel like anything has changed in the past 20 years. The Dixon restaurant makes for a great pit stop between SF and Tahoe. The bread and salad will fill you up so don't get the appetizers...otherwise you will regret it for being overly gluttonous full. Left me disappointed. I went here for my birthday expecting a really good steak, but I got a pretty decent steak. Let's start with the service. The waiter was very nice, but after talking to my wife there were a few things to watch out for. The waiter was helpful, but would very subtly try and upset you items if you didn't pay attention. For example, My wife was asked what sides fries, etc, and my wife said fries, but the waiter interjected you mean garlic fries, which actually cost more. Next the silverware was dirty and there was lipstick still on some of our water, so order a soda or something if you don't want water. I guess its part of the old West theme? That was pretty much it for my wife. The food. My steak was cooked as requested, medium rare. I order the cowboy steak, which is 20 oz. The steak was good, but I honestly can't remember the sides because they were not very good. My daughter had the ribs which she said were good and wife had the Pete's sirloin, which was supposed to be a favorite. My wife said the way I cook steaks and the meat I order at home was way better. :| Dessert. Dessert was another disappointment. I wanted the deep fried apple pie with ice cream. The presentation was great. I thought it was going to taste like a old school Mcky D's deep fried apple pie with ice cream. Alas, it was not. First of all, I'd like to start out this review by saying my family, and I have been here quite often over the course of the last few years, but this last Sunday, was probably one of the worst experiences we've had here. Granted, I know service is going to be slow on nights like Mother's Day, but we had a party of about 13 people, and half of our group got their meals, and they didn't bring out the other half until about 40 minutes later. All of our steaks were over cooked, too tough for anybody to even eat. When the fries came out, they were so cold, and seemed as though they had been refried multiple times. I personally had chicken and veggies, the chicken was too tough to even cut, and the bell pepper in the mix vegetables was sour, which made the meal an edible. Unfortunately, due to this experience, we probably will never go back as it was quite disappointing that our bill was roughly $400 and not a single person was happy. Granted I know it was a busy night, which I completely understand, but if our food is going to come out late, at least it better taste good and be cooked at the correct temperatures. Went here for the first time a few nights ago. Why hasn't anyone told me this place was so good? We went on tues. night and there are week night specials this night was $5 long islands. I had the bacon wrapped shrimp for an appetizer. The lime butter is the best. I ordered the 20oz rib eye with the baked macaroni and cheese. the steak was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. First time eating at Cattlemen for a party of 9 to celebrate a birthday. We made reservations and we did not have to wait even though it was very crowded and busy. Our waitress service was very friendly and attentive. The reason for the 3 star is that the food was just okay. We ordered prime rib which was not as good as other prime rib restaurants we have been to. Ordered the roasted butter squash and paid extra as a side but it was a bit salty. Bread and salad was always being replenished when we asked for more. Rib eye steak was very good. Do not order the burger (we should have known better to order steak or real meat) because it was not a good hamburger and the bread on the burger was thick and all you tasted was bread? I was so disappointed! Came here for my wife's birthday "50" and brought about ten others. My steak was Luke warm and mash potatoes Luke warm. Gave it back and the waitress brought the same piece of meat microwaved! They had the air conditioner blowing down on top of us so hard that our hair was blowing around. The waitress was slow and not all that good. Definitely will not come back; instead I'm going to Texas road house! Over priced and over rated. Had a reservation for 8 of us to celebrate my daughter's 23rd birthday. Wow! What a wonderful experience!! Everything was perfect. Our server, Shirley T, provided one of the best dining experiences we have had in a very long time. She was super attentive and anticipated our every need. On top of that, our food was absolutely delicious - we all ordered various steaks and some added lobster and everyone raved about how tender and perfectly cooked the meat was. We also had the calamari for an appetizer and it was super fresh and crispy. Went here on a biz dinner with about 15 of us. Amazed at the service and the degree of service we received. They start you out with bringing out sourdough bread and butter. Very nice. The meal is well presented and served at just the right temperature. I had the steak and shrimp combo. All cooked to perfection and the baked spud was spot on. One member of the party had the 20 OZ. cowboy steak. He ate about half then pleaded for two of us to kill it off. WOW! What flavor (almost wish I had ordered that!).
