Well "Next Door" is pretty convenient and so we walked over from the hotel Cattleman's, I've been to a few over the years, reminds me of the Stuart Anderson's Black Angus I used to run. We were greeted by a basket of warmed french bread and a ramekin of butter Tyler brought to our table. He's pleasant man who wasn't new to food service, friendly and knowledgeable about the offerings. I thought he'd probably started back a bit in that kitchen. He was fun and did an excellent job for us and his other tables. We finally settled on our refreshments, M took a Cowboy Lemonade in a tall (pint) glass and I went with a strawberry iced tea. Mine was great just a hint of the strawberry and not sweet. M ordered a Rib Eye Taco's appetizer, I had my go to with my goto 1/2 baby back ribs. my sides were garlic french fries (2.99) baked beans are automatic and the "endless" salad with house-made blue cheese dressing. We shared the bowl of salad that you add a good amount of dressing and toss it till you're happy with the outcome. I forgot to say no croutons so I scooped those off. We shared the salad, probably a rule breaker but one bowl was enough. We waited awhile for the entree, I didn't watch the clock. We are on a holiday road trip to Oregon and needed a break. Dinner arrived brought out by another server or expediter, I like that practice. Thank you. 1/2 a rack there was a good layer of meat on the top of this rack, it was heavy and plenty enough for me. Fries a bit weathered but done right, could have been hotter. M re-prepared her taco's having me take the sliced jalapeños off the plate and she added some of my pork to her taco. I didn't clear my plate, I'd had my fill no need to overdoit. Dessert yes please, all are made in house a real treat. However; excess is not a sustainable diet plan... Thanks Tyler a great experience for us. Cheers Foodguy-martin

Unfortunately this was the worst experience I've had at a Cattlemen's location. I ordered the Caesar salad with a well done steak, but the steak came out looking closer to medium rare and the texture was extremely chewy. It felt like I was chewing on rubber. I tried giving it a chance, but after struggling through a few bites I couldn't eat it. The other steak also had quite a bit of fat, the vegetables were undercooked, and the beans tasted more canned than homemade. Service was okay. Jared took our order and brought out the food, but nothing really stood out during the experience. The ambiance itself wasn't too loud, although you'll definitely hear the birthday cheers if someone is celebrating. Overall the food quality just did not match the price point this visit, which was disappointing because I've had much better experiences at other Cattlemen's locations in the past. Sadly I don't think I would return to this location.

We had a great time here and our server Carol was exceptionally good to us. Negatives: -unfortunately there are no locations in SoCal......I would rather go here than an outback, black angus, or Logan's. Positives: -the porterhouse we got was very juicy, tender, and had just the right amount of fat. It was more than enough for us to share too. My wife loved the bread so much that we got two servings. The prime rib tacos were very tasty too. Very on point seasoning. Even the mash potatoes were delicious. -we got plenty of food that was more than enough even though we shared. -I love the ranch theme of the restaurant, the hospitality, and the overall size of the location. Overall 5/5 This place does live up to the best steakhouse in the West. We're definitely coming back next time we visit NorCal

My family and I only chose this place because we were staying overnight from 3 hours away. Worst decision. First off, there was a BUG IN MY SALAD. And the steaks? The star of our dinner was suppose to be medium-rare. Not too much to ask for, right? Considering it's a STEAKHOUSE. They plopped them out on the table overwell-done if that is even a preference of how one wants their steak cooked. See photos below for your reference. Did not get photos of the steak because I was in disbelief of how they had the audacity to serve such horrible steaks.

This was our first time eating here, and my husband and I LOVED it! We ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp skewer as an appetizer, and a 9oz prime rib entrée with horse radish. It was absolutely delicious and the real deal... The atmosphere was fun, the server (Haylon?) was super nice and attentive, and the portion size was perfect... Would definitely come back!

I had never been to a Cattlemens before, and after a long day in the car and hiking around Lassen, a big juicy steak sounded perfect, especially with the prices here. I probably wouldn't have chosen to come here if it weren't for all the good reviews from some fellow Yelpers I know and trust, so shout out to them! We were blown away by how big the menu was, and even more so by how just about all of the steaks and entrees came with endless bread and salad, beans, and a side of choice. We doubled down on the bread and salad, the bread was hot and fresh and pretty delicious. The salad wasn't the best ever, but it was nice that you could pick different dressings. I tired the ranch and caesar, didn't like the ranch, but the caesar was good. I got the New York strip and my boyfriend Rustler Rib Eye. Both steaks were cooked perfectly. We tried a bite of each others and both were good, but I think the New York strip was a little bit better. For our sides we got the veggies and rustler spud to share. The veggies were a little overcooked and watery, but at least they were flavorful. The the rustler spud had something off about it, my boyfriend thought it was chemical tasting, but I just thought it was off. Our server Nate was friendly and helpful since it was our first time here, he checked in often and got us all the refills we needed!

Highly recommend Cattlemen's Steakhouse. We had the 14 oz Ribeye and 6 oz Petite Filet. Cooked to a perfect medium-rare All you can eat Salad, Sourdough Bread, and delicious Ranch Beans. Great service too Definitely exceeded our expectations. We'll be back

This was my first time visiting Cattlemens, and we did so on a Friday evening without a reservation made until about 2 hours prior to arrival. We had to park fairly far away, kind of towards the back of the hotel Nextdoor because parking was limited. Regardless of being busy, we were seated fairly quickly and our service was good throughout our dining experience here. My husband ordered the "Sheriff" which was a massive 2lb sirloin steak. And no, he didn't finish it there. We took a massive steak home and ate it with eggs the next morning, lol I ordered the 6oz petite cut fillet with a side of seasonal vegetables. Both steaks were perfectly cooked, and really well seasoned with a nice char from the grill. No steak sauce required, just the way we like it. They brought fresh sourdough bread and butter, baked beans, and salad for the table which was "all you can eat" but that really means, whatever they bring and how quickly. lol The beans were a small portion for our party size, so some people didn't get any with their meal, but they brought them some packed to go to make up for it. Overall, the food was great and the service was satisfactory. We enjoyed our experience here, and look forward to visiting again soon!

This is a small chain of steakhouses in Northern California. It happened to be next to my hotel (Holiday Inn Express) plus hotel guests get a discount. So I took advantage of the win-win situation and gave it a try. It had been 30 years since my last visit to a Cattleman's as I am no longer in the area. The facility has steakhouse vibes. Wood paneling, red vinyl seating, fire in the fire place. I sat in the bar area and was able to watch the game as I ate. The bar is full service featuring margaritas, Mike's, beers, wines and other liquors. The meal service starts with unlimited salad and sourdough bread. Dinner quickly came. I splurged and went steak and lobster. I found it... ok. The steak was an 8 ounce sirloin. It lacked on seasoning. Then the lobster was just ok. It, too, seemed to lack flavor. Also the consistency seemed a little off. Maybe a little overcooked??? Service was great and everything up until my meal was what I hoped for. Just the main dish left me somewhat dissatisfied.

Service was slow. Meals took forever to be served. Prime rib was mediocre and the horseradish was pure weak sauce.

Some that had been around since as far back as the 1920's. I love the ambiance, there's no bright LED lights, and the booths have nice dim lamps give just the right amount of light. The filet is always smoky and cooked perfect, and the fried scallops are amazing! I keep wanting to try the rib eye but I like the filet so much I order it every time. The salad is nothing to write home about, just over dressed lettuce and what tastes like canned green beans. But who comes here for the salad anyway? Service here is top notch, very friendly and professional at the same time. You have to get here early on a Saturday night if you don't want to wait for a table. We got here about 4:30 and the place filled up by 5. If you love great steak, great service, and a great atmosphere, you'll love Jack's.

Assistance+ Balance+…read moreCleanliness+ Deliciousness++ Environment+ Assistance: service was prompt professional and kind, we were greeted warmly and treated kindly. Our waitress was wonderful, the cook was prompt and masterful, the Owner oversaw his restaurant like a proud Lord watching over his kingdom, greeting friends and customers warmly. Balance: quantity and quality versus price were good. Cleanliness: the restaurant was good and good clean order, only complaint is there were a few flys. Clearly the opportunistic as it seemed every time someone would open a door a fly would charge in as quickly as they could following the sweet sweet smell of barbecue. Deliciousness: when I tell you I'm a barbecue snob, I mean it in every sense of the word. I've been grilling since I was a child, I've lived in the south I've lived in the east I've lived on the West Coast and I've lived in the Carolinas. My palate is normally greatly displeased with every barbecue I encounter but I take it for its own merit. Each grill master has their own ups and downs. So when I tell you this was some of the best barbecue I've ever had in my life you can take it as gospel. What you taste when you eat the barbecue here is the meat, the smoke, and the love that goes into it which is a vague term that is hard to define, if I were to try I would have to say that it's a combination of care, the way they prepare it and take care of the meat after it's prepared, seasoning, seasoning is very easy to overdo depending on the meat how long it's going to be cooked what cut it is where it came from how it was processed etc, and how they cut slice or prepare it. That's what love means when it comes to grilling and barbecue. Care, seasoning, preparation. So yes, Old Mill Eatery and Smokehouse blew me away. I only sampled their ground beef, bacon, and tri-tip, but if those are any indicator at the mastery they have over meat I am looking forward to trying everything they have to offer. My tri-tip was cooked to perfection, I could taste the beef, although it was shaved very thin because I had it on a sandwich I could still tell it was tri-tip and not just roast beef being pushed off as tri-tip, the bread was fluffy and fresh and seared with a bit of butter, soft and warm but crisp on the edge, the onion rings were fluffy and yet crispy on the outside, the garlic tater tots were perfect in every way crispy crunchy and savory, the bacon blue Burger was cooked to perfection it was not overpowered by blue cheese crumble and the bacon almost seemed as if it was not only peppered but candied in thick slabs, the side order of garlic bread was perfectly cooked crisp on the edges fluffy in the middle buttery and garlicky as it should be. Absolutely incredible top marks! Environment: there are only a few tables as the restaurant is a bit smaller but what they do with their space is comfortable and works. The restaurant itself is decorated like a lodge, reminiscent of a sawmill or a logging camp, with treated wood and a log cabin aesthetic, the decorations themselves consist mostly of historic articles and photos of both friend and family and the history of the restaurant. They also sell very cool cups that I definitely meant to get and will have to go back to that one for myself and the Missus. I need to make a mental note of that. All together this was a fantastic experience and I can't wait to go back. Their menu had so many things I want to try. The French toast tacos caught my eye definitely going to try that. But more importantly to me I want more of that barbecue, I want to try the brisket, sausage, chicken, pulled pork, I want to try it all! If the other items are half as good as what I had today I don't think I need to eat anywhere else. If you find yourself in Shasta Lake do yourself a favor and try the Old Mill Eatery and Smokehouse. See if you can take on their Giant Smokehouse Burger or a Pit Master challenge.

We were seated along the large window overlooking patio seating and the Sacramento River. The views are truly lovely. Our server, MJ greeted us kindly and took our beverage order. I ordered a glass of their House White, which was a 2022 California Chardonnay and was quite good. My partner ordered an iced tea. For dinner we ordered the Ribeye and the Filet, both cooked medium. Our food arrived approximately 30 minutes after ordering. The quality of the beef here was absolutely top notch. Prime beef for sure. This was the best steak I have enjoyed in Shasta County in over 10 years. Absolutely cooked to perfection. My partner's filet was massive. This had to be at least a 20 ounce filet and he enjoyed every morsel. The sides accompanying our mains, mashed potatoes and carrots for him and mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts for me, were fair to good, but not great. The carrots were raw. As in, not only very crunchy but cold all the way through. Mashed potatoes were nice and buttery, but not nearly warm enough. These spuds sat on a plate until the beef arrived. The restaurant was very kind in offering us a complimentary slice of cheesecake since we were celebrating an anniversary. The cheesecake was dense and rich and accompanied by berry sauce and caramel sauce, both of which were lovely. Freshly piped whipped cream and mixed berries and powdered sugar on the dessert plate made for a very lovely presentation, indeed, and was most appreciated. Service the entire meal was excellent. Price for our meals: $135 + $27 gratuity for a total of $162. We have paid nearly as much for a steak dinner elsewhere in Shasta County for a meal that came nowhere close to this. Worth. Every. I saw so many reviews raving about the chicken Marsala. Maybe they got a new cook because the sauce was basically just heavy cream didn't look anything like other pictures people posted. My husband got the spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were very good and had lots of flavor but the marinara was also quite bland and the garlic bread was a joke. It was toasted bread with a smidge of butter, no garlic whatsoever. I will not go back for the price. Definitely not worth it.
