TL:DR If you want your Ryobi mower fixed, take it somewhere else. If you want to be treated with respect, go somewhere else. In February 2023, I dropped off a battery powered Ryobi mower for a warranty repair. Over the next 10 months, I called 15 different times to get updates. They called me 2 times. Each time I called, I was told variations of they had "replaced some part but it did not fix the issue and they ordered some other part." On one occasion, I complained about how long they had had the mower and was told I needed to be patient because they "were in the middle of mowing season." In January 2024, I called and was told they had forgotten they had the mower. Then was told that they had to charge the batteries to figure out what was wrong. The next day, I got a call that the tech had tested the batteries, which showed bad, and wouldn't be covered by warranty. I explained that a previous tech had tested the batteries and told me they were fine. Additionally, the lead acid batteries were probably now damaged because they did not keep them on a charger. I asked why they had replaced the main relay, the drive motor controller and the DC to DC converter if the batteries were the problem. They said the previous tech didn't test the batteries correctly and it wasn't until this new tech called ryobi did they learn the correct way to test the batteries. They had no answer to why it took nearly a year to contact ryobi for support. The tech suggested I call ryobi and complain, but I was hesitant bc they had my mower and expected it might come back to me with a few missing wires. To which the tech promised he would never do that. I asked to have the owner or a manager call me. After a week- this still has not happened. Looking over previous reviews, it appears the owner actually reads these. Feel free to call me and we can discuss how I was treated. I called today (1/30/24) and said I was coming to get the mower. I was told "we'll have it ready for you." I arrived at the shop after more than an hour long drive, and was told the mower was in pieces and that there was a nearly $400 bill. They offered to give it back to me in pieces and deal with the cost later because they "couldn't put anymore labor into it" if the warrant wasn't going to be paid out. After some back and forth, they agreed to put it back to together and address the cost later. While loading the mower into my trailer, I noticed new damage to the seat, rust in several places and it looked like a rat nest had been under the seat. The batteries were completely dead again, and the ignition wasn't secured in place. I also found several loose screws. I've chosen not to use people's names throughout my review. That ends now. TJ was rude and sarcastic to me today. At one point, he said that he would have to wait until tomorrow to get a manager's permission to waive the outstanding balance. I suggested he call a manager on the phone. He sarcastically replied that it was every manager's day off and they aren't "on-call." He even asked me "how is my problem that you drove over an hour to get here." Finally, and I know this one is kinda petty, everyone there referred to me by my first name. IMO, that is an unreasonable level of familiarity. read more

If you want a recommendation for a good lawn equipment service provider, I would not suggest Causeway Mowers. I had a chainsaw repaired by them a couple of years ago and had nothing but problems getting the work done. One diagnosis after another to finally get it fixed. Thought I'd give them another chance with a gas trimmer, which has a 3 year warranty. After taking trimmer out of storage, where it had been for the past year, I could not get it to start without difficulty and would not stay running for more than 30 seconds. After three attempts with the same result I decided to bring it to Causeway Mowers. Invoice reads that the technician replaced the carburetor, replaced new spark plug, and tested the trimmer. They called me and I was told it was fixed. Picked up trimmer and went to use it the next morning. Trimmer starts fine but when I go to pull throttle and use the trimmer it shuts off in less than 30 seconds. Brought trimmer back to Causeway Mowers and tech verified trimmer would not stay running. Said it was probably an issue with the fuel lines or something related to fuel. Fast forward a few days and I get a call from Causeway Mowers stating that there is internal engine damage, without them actually conducting any type of breakdown of the engine, and insinuated that I ran the trimmer without oil. It is unrepairable, according to them. While the trimmer may be close to 3 years old, the total run time on the engine is less than 10 hours and was in storage for the past year. It never smoked when it was in operation and it did not have this fuel issue prior to being placed in storage. I never ran the trimmer without oil and no mention of this was stated to me when they performed the original diagnostic assessment of the trimmer. They stated they contacted manufacturer of trimmer and informed them that customer ran trimmer without oil. I was informed by Causeway Mowers that manufacturer will not warranty trimmer, due to running it without oil. Have my doubts they actually contacted manufacturer and I have my doubts they actually conducted a diagnosis of the original cause of the malfunction. It may be the case that the tech who replaced the carburetor and the spark plug may have completed the repair improperly, especially since he indicated he went ahead and adjusted the valves for the trimmer during the original repair. Could this be the cause of the internal damage? I am in the process to obtain remedy of this issue with manufacturer. It is my belief that it is unethical to indicate that your diagnostic evaluation of the malfunction is a singular issue with the fuel systems and after paying for that specific repair, which does not fix the original issue, then state that when the unit was first inspected, the tech states there was no oil in the engine and the unit is now condemned. I will post the unprofessional, in my opinion, manner in which Causeway Mowers conducts business with the Better Business Bureau. read more

I took a weedeater in for service. Thought I would have to leave it and pick up later. It needed a new head. They replaced it while I waited and were only going to charge me for the part. I insisted on paying for their time. They charged me $5. This is true customer service. They are more interested in a customer returning than jacking up prices. Do NOT under any circumstance do business with this company.... it is 100% my opinion that if you choose to do business with his company you risk being sold a defective item and then NOT HAVING THE WARRANTY HONORED and instead being blamed for the defect. you do much better and minimize your risk by going to your local Home Depot or other store that will honor their warranty no matter what. If you MUST buy from this company use your AMEX as they support you as the buyer 100% unlike visa dont Make the mistake of allowing your heart to make business decisions..... we all want to do business with a local company that tells us they support our country and our troops ..... but if that means potentially opening yourself up to financial risk by being charged a restock fee for a defective item why does any of that matter? Horrible service. Brought a used lawn tractor in and when I picked it up, the charge was way more than the estimate plus, written on the invoice was "blades are shot" but, they never called to tell me so I could have authorized that repair, because of course I want to cut my lawn with broken blades. Now, for the over $250 I paid them, great service would have been for them to quickly check my air filter and spark plug both of which I have found to be totally needing replacement. I was charged an additional 3.5% on my bill because as the lady explained..."the bank is now charging for the use of debit/credit cards". No, the bank has ALWAYS charged this fee, you just decided to pass this along to the customer. What she said was WRONG. She should have said..."because the bank charges this fee and we can now pass it along to you, we are going to do that". Don't blame the bank. It has always cost the business a fee to accept credit/debit cards. Don't assume I am an idiot. I have a small business and that is the cost to do business. You don't lie to the customer about the fee. Funny, I don't remember being offered a 3.5% discount to pay cash when THEY were paying they bank fee and not the customer. Nice people overall, but the only guy there that seems to know what he is doing is Kevin. If you are unlucky enough to get one of the other employees, they can never seem to find what you need. Ask for Kevin if they can't find it. Both times I have gone there, he has stepped in and easily found what I needed. One employee stared blankly at me and said they would need a specific model number for my engine for a generic part. Kevin came by and just said "oh yeah we have those" two min later I was on my way with the part! read more

Very disappointed, as this was going to be our go-to place for everything landscape related. However, every time we walk in we are always trying to be talked into buying something. Employees are trying to sell us cheaper items from themselves personally "around back" which explains the owners watchful eyes on his employees and a real sense of mistrust between the owner and the employees. I call them up and tell them what's going on. The woman on the phone tells me, "no problem bring it in". I ask her if I need a receipt of the original purchase. She tells me, "no". I send my father with the pressure washer and a receipt anyway. Again the original purchase receipt is refused. A week goes by, and I call about my pressure washer. I am told that they are waiting on a part. Another half a week goes by and I get a call telling me my pressure washer is ready for pick up, and that it will be $150. We were immediately apprehensive about this. We asked her why it was $150 since it was supposed to be covered under warranty. This is when the runaround started. I asked her why they would not inform me that it was not covered under warranty before doing the repair. She told me they had to complete the repair to see if it was covered by warranty. Even if you know nothing about warranty claims you know this isn't true. My previous interaction with Eastside Mowers proves this. She started asking about the original purchase date. If that was so important then why was the original purchase receipt not taken? I told her the date of purchase. She then informed me that because I had registered it under a business that the warranty was only good for 3 months, which is true. I then told her that was a mistake, and the machine is not a commercial machine. She told me that she had talked to Husqvarna and they would not warranty it, because it was registered under a business. This sounds fishy to me. Another shop told me that the pump was a Briggs and Stratton warranty issue, and I had brought the pressure washer to Causeway mowers as a Briggs and Stratton Warranty claim. Warranty not being covered aside, Causeway mowers did unauthorized repairs to my pressure washer. In every other interaction I have ever had with a mechanic they diagnose the problem and then call you with your options, and how you would like to proceed. I was given no such call. I was not informed when I called to inquire about the status of my machine, that the repair taking place was on my dime. I started to realize what had happened. The person that did the intake of my pressure washer completely dropped the ball on the warranty claim. I have suspicions that they forgot it was a warranty claim. When I started to confront the girl on the phone about this she immediately gets defensive. I propose a compromise. I was not asking them to do the unauthorized work they did for free. I was just asking them to do it at cost. She found this ridiculous, as she had no reason to negotiate with me. She had my machine and was not letting it go for less than $150. No matter what. I asked to talk to an owner or manager. She told me that it was futile, as he would say the same thing. We go back and forth. She accuses me of yelling. I grab my receipt and head down there. I get to talk to Evelyn, who just so happens to be the only good part of this entire experience. I talk to her about what happened. I had two big sticking points. First was that the warranty was completely mishandled. Second I was not given the option to deny repairs. I would have chosen to just buy a new machine rather than spend another $150 on top of the $50 to get them to look at it. It was only a $500 machine in the first place. Evelyn was very receptive to these complaints and started trying to work something out. I make a suggestion that they enter the warranty claim through Briggs and Stratton under my personal name since I never registered it with Briggs and Stratton. Evelyn starts moving forward on that. The timeline gets a little fuzzy here. I had to go back to the shop and left without my pressure washer again, but I can't remember why. I think this whole process takes another week and a half. This would not have been if the warranty process was started at the beginning of the job, instead of at the end. At the end of it all, I am told that the warranty claim brings the total down from 260 ( I have no idea where that number came from) to me just owning an additional $40 on top of the $50 already paid. I pay it and go on my way home. When I get home I fire up my pressure washer to test it out. It is immediately apparent that the machine was never tested because now the problem is WORSE! Not only does the pump not get pressure now, but it is leaking water and oil. I call the next day and talk to Evelyn. She tells me to bring the machine back in. I tell her under no circumstances am I bringing my pressure washer back to them. A few days later they decided to refund my money, which actually surprised me. read more

Bought used mower, didnt last for long

Every year I take my Honda 5 speed mower in to have it serviced for my use during the fall and winter mowing season. I ask Kevin if the work could be done in a week and in a few days I have received a phone call that the work was done. The price is always reasonable and the the technician always makes the mower run in tip top shape. In fact a few weeks ago (11/2017) Tony, the technician, did the work and before we put the mower into my car he started it on the first pull. It runs fine and I am getting my exercise trying to keep up with the mower. Tony is top notch mechanic! Kevin, the owner, is very knowledgeable and he has been very helpful to me. I have been a regular customer of Causeway Mowers for the last 6 years....I wouldn't go anywhere else. I have had my ECHO trimmer/edger serviced there too. George P. read more

Went there to have chainsaws chains sharpened, and was charged $16 per chain or $.20 per link. Called up east side mowers in Palmbay . They charged me four dollars per chain up to 20 inches, when I call back Causeway mowers I spoke to Doug, he told me nobody would do it for four dollars that's a price from the 70s but Eastside mowers charged me four dollars per chain, I asked him why the over inflated price he could not give me an answer and he lost two customers. This morning I was given the name of a reputable repair shop. I dropped off me blower and gave them the history. They called me advised blower is repaired, when I picked unit up I was advised that it was their opinion I was lied to (By Causeway Mowers) about repairs/service, all that was done to the unit was a new spark plug was installed. AVOID THIS BUSINESS!! BE ADVISED: This business solicits positive reviews from customers by offering a $10 coupon off a $50 repair. Sign clearly posted on cash register in lobby. Causeway Mowers operates under D & K Enterprises USA, Inc. Highly unprofessional, extremely aggressive, belligerent, condescending, insulting, and generally unfriendly staff. Kevin Shelton, the VP of the company is one of the worst small business owners I have ever encountered. I brought my Honda generator for repairs because they are listed as a Honda Premier Service Center but the service I received was anything but premier. First they mis-diagnosed the generator and charged me $440.63 to "repair" it. Once they had installed that part, which I did not need, they informed me the real cause of the problem was another part that had failed. Roughly $600 for a new one but they had a used one in stock for $300. I declined repairs and questioned why they hadn't diagnosed that as the actual problem in the first place. It was then that Kevin began to become highly defensive, rude, and arrogant. He resorted to personal attacks of my character and refused to talk to me about the issue. After some time he did agree to repair to generator by installing the used part, which was $300, for $150 but insisted I must pre-pay for the repair. When I questioned him why Id have to pre-pay for a repair he once again became aggressive and stated that I didn't have a right to question him and his judgement. He went on to say that this was his business and he can make up the rules as he goes along and the customer must follow those rules. He continued to be very defensive and unpleasant. Finally we had reached an agreement to have the 2nd repair paid for upon completion and it was then that I mentioned the missing screws/bolts that they had lost during the 1st repair. When I asked the generator be returned to me with all the screws/bolts the repair tech Ed Kitchen became belligerent and began insulting me, insisting that I had no right to ask for the screws/bolts to be replaced. Ultimately they refused to repair the generator, asked me to leave the premises and threatened to call the police on me. Rather than provide good customer service they just scam customers out of money for unnecessary repairs and then resort to bullying tactics. In short, Causeway Mowers (D & K Enterprises USA, Inc.) and their staff are not capable of properly diagnosing equipment, they are incompetent at repairing equipment, they are unable to re-assemble equipment without losing parts/pieces, they have an extreme absence of professionalism, and a total disregard for customer satisfaction. So I bring in a 4yr old Honda lawnmower that is running rough for repair after speaking with Evelyn who tells me to swing it down. Sound like a simple problem...I told them we just replaced the spark plug and air filter with a new Honda brand part purchased there just a week ago and changed the oil. I called them 2 days later after being told they will look at it the next day and they had no idea where my mower was or that it was even there. Frustrated I hung up and called them back and got another person...They were just as cunfused and told me they were busy and to call back in an hour - WHAT??? Great customer service..I said NO. This was my third and final call and the guy said one moment I'll check with the techs.. He came back in like 5 minutes with a guess waht - It will be ready for pickup in 30 minutes. So my wife went to pickup and we mowed the lawn that night. Same problem--I asked her for the bill. Now very frustrated finding they replaced the spark plug, air filter and oil what I just did 1 week ago. Holy cow. I asked them to kindly refund me as if the tech read the repair order it's obviously a fuel mixture/carb issue or adjustment. The tech said well he wasnt told that. My husband has been giving Causeway Mowers his business for many years in part to support this small business...at least until today. Our 5 year old mower we purchased from Causeway Mowers started having issues so a week ago, my husband decided to purchase a new mower from Causeway Mowers and have them put the old mower on consignment. The gentleman behind the counter told my husband that even though our paperwork showed the mower was no longer under warranty, this gentleman assured my husband that the manufacturer of the mower would indeed cover the repair even though the warranty had expired. So decision was made to go thru with a no cost repair. A week later, my husband contacted the store to see if the mower was ready. Causeway Mowers said it was but that the mower was NOT under warranty, our mower was ready to pick up for a cost of $123! No one ever called to say the repairs would not be covered and to inquire if we wanted to have it repaired. But it only gets worse. My husband went down to discuss this situation and was told Causeway Mowers needed to recoup their costs due to the mower not being under warranty...so either pay up or we couldn't get our mower back. To settle the dispute, my husband decided to purchase a brand new mower, and let the vendor recoup what they could on the old. When he got home and we took it out of the box, we discovered the front wheels were not aligned correctly and the front of the mower looked bent. So we packaged it back up and took it back today. My husband was talking to a very nice lady behind the counter to get this situation resolved. Causeway Mowers agreed to accept the return of the new mower; however, while frustrated, but calmly discussing the issue of payment regarding the old/NOT under warranty mower, the owner, got involved. The owner told the nice lady to contact their lawyer, that my husband and I would have to pay court costs on top of losing the mower then looked at my husband said "I'm going have to ask you to leave the store"! The nice lady told my husband to stay and they worked at reducing the cost of the mower repair by a small amount. In the discussions behind the counter between the woman and the mechanic, my husband discerned that the 2 of them, who were not responsible in any way for these circumstances, would have to pay out of their own pocket - NOT the owner of the store! Due to the owner's "Customer- NOT- first" attitude, we will NEVER again give our business to Causeway Mowers. Hopefully there's another small business that deserves our business (or it will go to the big box stores). read more
