Came in for dinner last night with some girl friends. Ambiance- the restaurant itself is cute, spacious and trendy. Loved it. Food- we ordered the ricotta, poke, Caesar salad, burger and fries Ricotta- not usually a fan but it was light, fresh, and had a very balanced flavor, especially when paired with the lavash Poke- I believe they used a halibut and was paired with fried rice paper. The flavor was fantastic. Caesar salad was a Caesar salad. Good, nothing fantastic or special about it. Burger and fries- so goood. Very much a classic, no frills burger & fries. Loved it. Drinks- they were out of basically half the menu. I was so sad I couldn't taste the Pimm's cup, espresso martini or the ube drink. Got a filthy martini which was excellent, the bartender working the bar cart was fantastic as well. Service- everyone was nice. I love this place. I've been here for just drinks, and I've been here for brunch, lunch, and dinner. All times have been fantastic! And I love the New Orleans flare they have to the menus. They offer a good variety with their food and cocktails, and both are equally impressive. Great staff too! I also like the mixed and cool crowd that comes in. It makes me feel like I'm in the City, but with Menlo charm (they also have a really popular location in SF). I will continue to come back as much as I can. Highly recommend! read more

I came to Causwells for brunch with a girlfriend and we loved it! I did not even know about the martini cart and it was soo fun to have our martinis made tableside. My favorite dish was the famous burger, it was so juicy and I loved the crispy onion strings it came with. Causwells is tucked in a residential apartment building and has free garage parking for 2 hours, and there are also lots of (paid) EV chargers available which is a plus. The interior is spacious and very swanky, and pretty quiet too. Would love to come back with my husband and toddler. read more

Saw this place online raving about the oysters so I had to come only to find out they were out of oysters and they had a specific menu for that day/time. Really didn't want anything besides drinks and oysters, but I found the chicken sandwich that was just ok. Needed some extra seasonings/ sauces. The fries was great! The drinks was just ok again. I had such amazing memories of the whipped ricotta and food from the SF location, so I was super happy to hear a location opened in Menlo Park. The food is good, but not spectacular. Had a really nice dinner at Causwells. They open for dinner at 5pm, We arrived a little early and asked to be seated outside as the weather was beautiful. There's plenty of parking both on the street and in their garage. The service was excellent. Everyone was welcoming and attentive, and checked on us throughout the meal without overdoing it. We ordered the homemade ricotta, charred Brussels sprouts, and the octopus. Everything was delicious. The ricotta with the rosemary honey and lavash was a great starter, the Brussels sprouts were perfectly charred with lots of queso fresco, and the octopus was tender and full of flavor. Can't comment on the cocktails as we only opted for sodas. Definitely a place we'd come back to. The food and service were both excellent. read more

We took my sister here for her birthday last night and arrived excited to try a new restaurant. Sadly, we left feeling very disappointed and would probably only return for drinks at the bar. The ambiance inside is beautiful, and we loved the bar area. We were seated outside, though, so unfortunately we weren't able to experience the martini cart, which was disappointing, as one of the main reasons we chose to come was specifically for that experience. Drinks - Deconstructed Pimms Cup was a hit! The martinis are tiny and not cheap. I had a dirty Shirley which was just meh. Food: Fried Chicken with Slaw - The menu should really specify that this is fried chicken wings, because that's what was served. I was expecting an actual fried chicken entrée with perhaps a breast and thigh. Instead, it was wings with no sauce, and the slaw was completely flavorless. Salmon - Cooked perfectly, but overall nothing particularly memorable or special. Prime Rib - The first plate arrived cold. Not just slightly cool but cold and the meat had an unappetizing grey color. We sent it back, and a replacement finally arrived after everyone else had already finished eating. It was hot the second time, but the color of the meat still looked off. And no creamy horseradish with prime rib? That was surprising. We ended up taking the $40 meal home for our dogs. Beignets - We ordered these for the birthday celebration, and they were actually delicious. However, after the prime rib situation, I thought it was in poor taste that they charged us for them. Service was fine overall, and the staff were friendly. I'm just really disappointed with the experience. We were deciding between coming here or going to my sister's favorite spot, Los Altos Grill, and ultimately chose to try something new. Unfortunately, it ended up being a big letdown. We came here Saturday early afternoon and tried the brunch menu. We were able to be seated right away without a reservation. The outdoor table had plenty of room for our stroller. My husband and I enjoyed our cocktails (I believe mine was called the dilly dally). The charred oysters were lovely, though a bit pricey for 6. We also had the chilaquiles and the burger. The chilaquiles were good but a bit simple if you don't add on the extras. We added avocado, but the dish would feel more interesting with tomatoes, beans, meat, etc. The burger was also good, and we ordered it with the onion strings. Those strings were delicious! The burger itself was meaty. As a ketchup lover, I asked for some ketchup on the side to dip the burger into (the burger does not have ketchup on it otherwise). The ketchup was weirdly spicy. Overall it was a positive experience, but nothing truly exceptional. Cocktails and location were the highlights. Side note: Only one unisex bathroom stall for an entire restaurant, but it does have a surface to change a diaper. read more

As the ice slowly melts, it infuses the gin with cucumber, strawberry, and lemon flavors. * Larger food menu with MP exclusives (If you live in Springline and lounging poolside, you can have food and drinks delivered to you.) * Spacious, more vibey dining area perfect for your socials. Comfortable, shaded outdoor patio. * Plentiful, FREE parking (underground garage). For food, we ordered two of the SF mainstays: * Housemade Ricotta w/ lavash ($15): Ricotta needed salt to balance the sweetness of the honey. * The American Burger ($24) -- Upcharge for fries (+$3), avocado (+$3), and pickled jalapeño (+$2) The patty was overcooked and dry, lacking the juiciness you'd expect from a good burger. Sorry but after three tries, I still find Causwells' burger mid and overhyped for the price point. We also ordered a new dish: Breakfast Jambalaya w/ chicken and sausage ($19) - it was boring and underwhelming, lacking the bold spices and seasoning you'd expect from a jambalaya. We came to Causwells for a quick bite after grabbing coffee at Andytown and ordered the crispy maitake mushrooms and duck fat hashbrowns. Unfortunately, both were pretty disappointing. The maitake mushrooms were cut into really tiny pieces. I was hoping for larger, more substantial pieces like the maitake at Twelvemonth so these felt a little underwhelming. The duck fat hashbrowns were the bigger disappointment. Instead of having that nice crispy golden-brown exterior, ours were pretty burnt. You could really taste the char which took away from the dish. On the positive side, both the hostess and our server were really nice and welcoming. I saw a reel on this place which really made me excited to go, but I feel like my overall experience was super blah and underwhelming. I came on Easter Sunday, I had made reservations but came early and they were able to seat us right away. There was hardly anyone in here on a Sunday afternoon. Drinks took a while to order and overall service was kinda slow for the amount of people in here. I got the espresso martini which was average, nothing grabbing me to really want it again even with the coconut cream foam on top. My friend got a drink from the bar cart and really nothing too special I felt like it could've been made at the regular bar. The caviar was eh, I felt like bread needed to be with it. We asked two different people (one I feel like was the manager and semi brushed off explanation of what the dish was) and the waitress just hit us with a "no" and walked away when we asked about bread lol. Also there was minimal caviar in it. The burger was really good but the onion crisps seemed odd eating like they were just so thin, more like a topping than a side. My friend wanted the French dip but they didn't have it today. She got the chicken sandwich cut in half and I felt like the half I got barely had any chicken. Super small thin chicken for the sandwich. Overall the ambiance is so incredible but the food really didn't hit. Reminded me of poolside food, I think the the fries are frozen. The table next to us got the pancakes and in my head I thought they were gonna be super fluffy ricotta pancakes like the description, but they looked like the opposite. My friend and I stopped by today since we had heard about their famous burgers. We saw online that there was an option for a veggie patty, so we decided to come since my friend is vegetarian, but our waiter told us they don't actually have a veggie patty. That was disappointing since the burgers were the reason we came, but I still ordered one with fries, and my friend decided on the mushroom benedict with fries. We also had two mocktails and the beignets. All in all, the food was just ok- nothing bad, but nothing to write home about. The beignets were actually a little overcooked (not burnt, but super crunchy and dark brown). The ambiance/decor doesn't seem to have changed from the last restaurant they had in that space, which is fine. It's clean and cute. I'm glad I finally tried it since it's on my list of to-try places for a few years, but I don't think I'd choose to come back. read more

We've probably been to Causewells five times since they first opened for dinner and brunch, and it's become one of our favorite places to eat in Menlo. Like most new restaurants, there were a few growing pains at first, but every time we've gone back, it's been even better than the last. The cocktails are excellent, with our favorites being the Dillydally and the White Negroni. Our favorite food item has probably been the tagliatelle. One thing we've really appreciated is how great they've been with our baby. Eating out with a little one isn't always easy, and they've always made us feel welcome. Went for an early (5:45) Sunday dinner. There was only one family of three at the restaurant, who had already been served and was pretty much finished, when we arrived. We ordered cocktails. Our server came back and told us that the bar was out of one of the ingredients, Thyme. My friends ordered their cocktails without the Thyme, I ordered the Aperol Spritz. The drinks were fine. We ordered the Brussel Sprouts appetizer. They were a bit over done. Two of us ordered the Pork Belly and one ordered the burger. It was quite a wait to get our meals. Once they arrived, the burger was nice and hot, but our Pork Belly meals were basically cold. My friend ate hers and I sent mine back. It took almost half an hour to get another Pork Belly. During this time two more customers were seated Our server said the manager (who never came to our table) was comping my drink and meal and comped my dessert as well. The pork belly was good. For many years, I had heard about Causewell's burger but just haven't had the opportunity to trek up to SF for it, so I was really excited to see them opening in the Springline complex. The menu has elements of the SF location but has a lot more, and from what I can tell, a very different vibe, as well. Cocktails: - Off the Martini cart: Five spice sazerac, topped with absinthe air. It's spirit driven and fun to have the cart come by - Pina colada Royal: frozen, with coconut shaved ice on top. Loved this - it was very well balanced, not overly sweet - Ube milk punch: with pandan, aged rum, ube macadamia nut foam - way better than your average milk punch Food: - Steak tartare; American style with larger cuts, celery, pickled, thick toast - Crispy maitake mushrooms: absolutely loved these; not too much breading -Americana burger: their classic - hearty and generously portioned, definitely so the $3 fries upgrade - Tagliatelle: generous on the lamb. Surprisingly, the kids loved it! - Roasted romanesco: more like an appetizer portion, but that was some very flavorful and solid wild rice We were too full for dessert, but everything send really smoothly for day 2. If you have young kids like we do, the Caltrain and freight trains going with the open "garage door" are great for entertainment. Parking: spring line or street parking. Reservations are on Resy. We came here to celebrate my friend's birthday after hearing great things from a friend who had visited during the grand opening. She had such a good experience the night before that we were excited to come back, especially to try the piña coladas she had recommended. Even though we made reservations ahead of time, the experience was disappointing. We ordered three piña coladas, and after waiting for them, they were not what we expected at all. My friend, who had been there the night before, told the same server that the drink did not look or taste like the one she had previously. The server responded by saying, "We are still new and learning and trying new ways." That response was surprising. I expected an offer to remake the drinks or suggest something else, especially when we were paying $20 per drink for something we did not enjoy. Another issue was the service overall. No one really checked on our table to see if we needed anything. We constantly had to raise our hands just to get someone's attention. Lastly, when I asked for a physical copy of the receipt, there was another long wait, and then we were given the wrong receipt. Thankfully, my friend noticed it before we left. We went to the front desk to let them know, but there was no apology or acknowledgment of the mistake. This place has potential, but they definitely need to improve their customer service. read more

As a fan of the SF location I was thrilled when I first saw the sign that they were opening a Menlo Park location. In a very unassuming area where there's a Caltrain stop but seems to be the start of widely popular Bay Area. Restaurants shout out to farmhouse Thai and their brunch spot across the street.. was able to make an early 5 PM dinner reservation on a Thursday through the online portal. The location does have outdoor indoor seating. Weather is great, but because the Caltrain is so nearby if you're hoping to have conversations sitting outside, might not be the best. Inside the nice ambience and stylings of the San Francisco Caswell with a Menlo Park touch with big comfy seats. The dining room looks like it could be booked for an intimate party as well in the full bar with amazing cocktails.. We started with the Crudo, which was called. Very delicious. and for drinks, I got the piña colada that came with a coconut flavored shaved ice. It was so delicious. I would drink more than one and my other favorite the pickle beer Michelada we also got the deconstructed Pimm's punch because the presentation is always beautiful. We also ordered the roasted oysters and potato purée with caviar and fried Boudin ball as entrées. We shared the prime rib, fried chicken and salmon. The mashed potatoes that came with the prime rib were so delicious. I feel like I could eat that alone, a table really like the fried chicken and I feel like it was a good idea to share everything so everyone can get a little taste because I think if I only ordered one thing, I would be sad that I missed out on the other great entrees. Unfortunately, the espresso martini and chilaquiles were not the best; I've honestly had better at a hole in the wall spot. Short story: great food, incredible cocktails. Excellent spot for local dining. Longer story: Menlo Park has become a dichotomy- there are the standards for cheaper comfort faire, and the expensive, boujie restaurants that are great but too expensive. Causwells is no Dutch Goose or Bistro Vida. It's expensive. But it's also not Che Fico or Eylan: you get solid dining for what you pay. We came here on a Thursday at 7:30 and got a table immediately. Joe was our server- he was extremely nice and read our slow-roll program immediately. The raw oysters were insane. As good or better than Clarke's. The caviar was also amazing- the aerosol potatoes were an excellent base for the brine of the caviar. We each had the burger- excellent, but I'd recommend the fried chicken or pork even more. The burger was better than Gott's, as good as Shelby's or Village Pub- but that fried chicken has no equal, and the pork belly??? Stop it. It's unreal. Finally, to say that the cocktails are even better than the food makes me wince, as then it sounds like I'm putting the food down in some way. I'm not. The food is top-tier. Excellent. And the cocktails are insanely good. Incredible. The Ceviche is a must, as is the Baklava Old Fashioned. We hit the drinks hard, having ridden bikes to the restaurant, and left at $150/ person. You could go much cheaper if you showed a touch of restraint. Have the bar cart- the show is worth it and Christian is a performance artist. The sazerac was fantastic , as was the dirty martini. Really enjoyed finally trying Causwells at Springline. Came by for both brunch and dinner and had a great experiences overall. The staff were warm and welcoming and helped guide us through the menu. Brunch definitely hit the spot! The duck cochinita tostadas and jambalaya were my favorite bites. We finished with the French toast bites and good coffee for dessert. Dinner was equally solid. We especially enjoyed the pork belly and spaetzle, along with the burger with crispy onion strings, the fresh radicchio salad, and the tableside cauliflower soup. It was a nice option to have the burger cut in half as we were sharing everything. Also appreciated the thought and care behind the nonalcoholic cocktails. The green apple & snap pea NA G&T and the NA smoked beet cocktail both felt balanced and intentional rather than an afterthought, which is always nice to see for us non-drinkers. I came with a few friends during what we thought was happy hour (there was no happy hour). It is gorgeous inside! Dim lighting, beautiful light fixtures and stunning bar. Our server, I believe named Matt, was attentive, friendly & gave us good recommendations. We started with the martini cart and I have to say, one of the most flavorful martinis I've ever had! To follow we also tried the espresso martini, this one is pretty sweet so I would recommend leaving it as a dessert drink, but non the less it was delicious!! I don't want another espresso martini without coconut cream. My friend tried the ceviche which was a perfect blend of tart from the passion fruit with a hint of sweet, it claimed to have ají amarillo but I did not taste anything spicy, I would have liked a little more spice. We shared a few apps including the crudo, crispy sausage, baked oysters, & ricotta. The crudo was fresh but I felt like it lacked some flavor, it came with a strawberry oil but I couldn't taste it. The crispy sausage was flavorful, I really enjoyed this one. The ricotta was delicious but I wish it came with warm fresh baked bread, it would elevate it compared to the plain crackers it came with. The baked oysters were buttery and cheesy- how can you not love this combo. Overall I enjoyed my drinks and meal, I'll definitely come back to try more. They brought out our baked oysters, but my husband's drink took 10 minutes, and when we asked about mine, the staff just said they were understaffed and had no idea when it would come. The building is beautiful, the ambiance and service was stellar, but the most important part? The food? God-awful. Truly. Spectacularly bad. We ordered the prime rib and it was gray. It looked like a boiled shoe and tasted about the same. My braised lamb tagliatelle was lackluster but at least edible. The presentation of our entire meal was odd. The prime rib came on a mound of mashed potatoes with sunken anemic looking carrots. No jus, no seasoning just a wet gray slab of meat on a mound of mash. My tagliatelle had random piped rosettes of herbed cream of some sort. For the price point, it's a definite no. As we were leaving we noticed that more than half the tables had burgers. Man - this place was a massive disappointment. First, our reservation thru Resy was outdoors. However, aside from 2 tables, the interior was empty. I asked if we could sit inside and was told "no." Why? "We have reservations." Who? People who are coming. By the time we left 33 minutes later, there were still most of the tables empty. Anyway, on to the food - three of us. One ordered the burger, which was honestly very good and very appetizing looking. Unfortunately, only one of us ordered the burger. I got the tagliatelle with lamb ragu. Problems - (1) it was cold - like it had been sitting out for 10 minutes waiting for the burger to cook; (2) the pasta had a weird texture - it wasn't a nice italian pasta - it was more of a stiff, grainy texture that fell apart. It didn't hold together; (3) the portion size was more of an appetizer size portion; (4) it lacked seasoning or flavor. I guess if it had been hot and with a better noodle, it wouldn't have been terrible, but I'm at home now eating a 2nd dinner. The third entree was the salmon. Came here as a walk-in on a random weekday thinking there wouldn't be much of a wait, but they were only offering outdoor seating. Luckily it was a nice day, so we didn't mind too much. Unfortunately, the food was pretty underwhelming overall. It wasn't bad, but it definitely didn't live up to the hype you see all over Instagram and TikTok. We tried their signature burger with onion strings, and it was just okay--nothing that really stood out. The one highlight was the fried mushroom appetizer--it was definitely the best thing we had and actually worth ordering. Service was also disappointing. We never even knew who our server was, which made the whole experience feel disorganized and inattentive. I understand they just opened, but basic service should still be in place--this didn't meet that standard at all. For the prices and being in Menlo Park, I expected a lot more. read more

Almost didn't come here because the reviews were a little ho-hum, but so glad we did. My partner and I popped in for dinner on a Tuesday evening and had a lovely dinner. Our server was Joe, and he was the perfect mix of attentive without being overly overbearing. Friendly and warm, we felt taken care of for our meal there. We ordered the Ricotta and the smash burgers and they were both really good. In fact, I think The smash burgers are probably the best smash burgers we've ever had. I also was super pleased to find that they had Golden State Cider (my favorite!) We also really appreciated all of the outdoor seating - we especially liked being seated next to the fountain. Super convenient to park, but they're also right next to cal-train which would be convenient if you're taking transit.
