Shepherd 's Pie
Tamara E.

This was a hidden gem of a find! We ended up here because we needed food (and drinks lol) that was nearby and had a cheesesteak: this location checked off all of our boxes. This building is old and historic. When we walked in signs directed us to go upstairs. As we walked up 2 (maybe 3) flights of stairs, we passed 4 different drinking rooms that were all decorated slightly differently. When we made it to the top, the room opened to a bar with seats all the way around it. This room made 5 drinking rooms in total and had a dart board and TVs for entertainment. There was bar and low tables for seating. The bartenders were welcoming and friendly. Both of them treated us like we were locals that were usuals at the bar/pub. This is an old school bar/pub so don't expect a cocktail list and plan to order a basic drink or a beer. My husband did a draft beer and I did a double Captain and Cranberry. Both drinks hit the spot and were refreshing. To eat, my husband had the Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich and I had the Shepherd's Pie. The Cheesesteak was extremely large with well seasoned meat that was very flavorful. The Shepherd's Pie was OFF THE CHARTS DELICIOUS!!! The aroma of the pie made your mouth water before it even made it to your seat. Each bite was full of flavor, peas, carrots, mash, and meat. It had just the right amount of moisture and was the perfect consistency. The mashed potatoes on top were seasoned beautifully, light and fluffy but with a crispy exterior. I am a HUGE fan of Shepherd's Pies and this is by far the best one I have ever eaten. This is definitely a place to check out! I cannot wait for my next visit and my next Shepherd's Pie.

Don't forget to check in on Yelp to get 10 percent discount. My husband and I came here to watch Liverpool game. There are many TVs so everyone can enjoy watching the game. Paul the bartender is very good and attentive. Drinks came out right away. My husband had Bloody Mary but it was not good because it was a bit frozen. Fried pickles: good portion size, enough for sharing with 3-4 people. The batter was light and crunchy, similar to funnel cake. The pickle itself was paper-thin and small, probably almost the same size as a quarter. The batter stayed in tact, perfect for dipping. Highly recommend. Buffalo chicken salad: a lot of strips of breaded chicken breast. The breading didn't fall apart and soaked the flavor of the buffalo sauce. The buffalo sauce had perfect balance of acidity and heat. I really enjoyed it. Sliders: cute presentation with a slice of pickle And tomato on top. The meat wasn't dry. It comes with fries.

Stouffers

Have been a big fan of Cavs food for a long time. Ordered pick up multiple times during this crisis and the food was great. HOWEVER, I just ordered and my order included Mac' n cheese. It looks NOTHING like I've had in the past and is not what is advertised. It is 100% stouffers. It is fake microwaved pasta delivered to my door for 15 bucks. I'm still going to eat it but complete disrespect. Won't ever be back. Good luck.

Extremely quick delivery order, and everything came hot! Really tasty fish and chips, with the fries being the perfect texture. Wings were huge and super flavorful. The burger was stacked with a huge tomato and tons of cheese. Fresh and tasty on a Friday night!

There really isn't a lot to say except that I've had some of the best FISH TACOS of my life here. Order them and devour them, they're incredible. Be warned though, they are spicy with that pickles onion and Habanero sauce kick but wow, I was definitely not expecting those. Don't order the chicken sandwich with fries, it's a little bland. It can get packed on a Saturday night so there isn't a lot of sitting room. If you see a table, grab it.

Bartender was awesome. Have fond memories of The Dark Horse and the place kept everything that was charming about the old Dark Horse.

The waffle was a waffle but the bacon burnt ends were amazing!! So good I would have eaten a plate of just them. The French toast comes four ways with an option of a sample plate of one of each. It's a great way to try them all. There would be no way I could eat a full plate of any of them due to the size of the toast and the richness of the toppings. My favorite was of course was the bacon. The Carmel bacon burger was hands down a mouthful of such flavor that all of the meat eaters at the table couldn't put it down. Rich Carmel sauce, thick cooked bacon with an amazing perfect-fully cooked burger. I would order it again with a side of burnt ends for the best combination.

I've been wanting to come here for a year and really had high hopes for it. The restaurant is…read morebeautifully decorated and cleanly kept. The host/bartender and server were both very nice. I'm not sure if the server was new but she didn't seem very familiar with their menu, though she did say she'd ask if we had questions. I ordered a $19 cocktail and asked them to make it less sweet but it was still very sweet and syrupy, so I didn't even really drink it. We ordered the hanging bacon for $19 which I was excited about. For the price and hype, I kind of thought it would be fancy or thick-cut bacon, but it was just regular thin bacon like you get at the grocery store. I will say it was cooked well, the sweet habanero sauce was excellent, and the cornbread underneath the bacon was good too. Just seemed kind of overpriced and hyped. I tried to order the bacon and lobster Alfredo. The server came back and said they were out of lobster so I asked for another menu. My friend tried to order the burnt ends entree, but they were out of that, too. They were out of asparagus so the server said they would substitute broccoli instead. We ordered the blackened salmon that was supposed to have a mango salsa topping. It came with mashed potatoes and asparagus (sub broc). However, it was plain when it got dropped off and I later asked the server about the salsa and was told they were out of salsa as well. I ended up using the habanero sauce that came with the hanging bacon to add a little flavor to the dish. It would have been a nice mention when they dropped the food off instead of me having to ask for it. The other entree we got was like a braised pork on mashed potatoes with cornbread. The server said "that comes with asparagus so would you like the broccoli instead?" I told her, "the menu doesn't say it comes with that but if so, I guess sub the broccoli." When she brought that dish to us, she said "I asked the chef to put broccoli on because you asked for it." I was annoyed because I already had told her the menu didn't say anything about a vegetable with that dish. They did charge me $3 extra for the "added" broccoli. It wasn't the price, but that the server was not knowledgeable about the menu, offered me something I questioned her specifically about, and then charged me extra for it as if I asked for it. I would like to reiterate, though, that she was very sweet throughout. The lack of menu items on a menu that isn't that big, and has some repeats between the appetizers and entrees, was laughable by the end. The food that we did get was cooked well and tasted fine, but was pretty basic and in my opinion, overpriced for what it was. I think it would avoid confusion and disappointment if the server told you what they were out of when you sat down, so you could make an informed menu choice, as I've had this happen at other restaurants where it was not a big deal that they were out of a dish or item. But this place was out of so many things on a Thursday night. I was really hoping this would be a regular neighborhood place for me, but I will not be back.

Now here's the strange part. The dining room itself is really cool. Big screens everywhere, great sports-bar vibe, and the staff was friendly and attentive the entire time. If the rating was based purely on atmosphere and service, this place would probably do just fine. But the wings... my god, the wings. These were some of the worst wings I've ever had in my life, and I've eaten wings all over the country and even in other countries. I've tried just about every level of heat out there, including sauces from the Hot Ones wing challenge. I ordered a mild order of wings. Instead, what showed up were wings that were absolutely nuclear hot. I'm not even talking about the fact that they were half wings, which already feels like a bit of a cheap move. The real problem was the heat level. I asked for mild and got something that felt like it belonged on a dare menu. Two hours later my lips were still burning. I didn't even finish them. Six wings sat there because there was just no way I was putting another one in my mouth. As for the rest of the food, I honestly can't say much. My wife ordered a cheesesteak, but I offered her one of my wings because there was no way I was eating all six of them. That one wing burned her mouth so badly she said she barely even remembers eating the cheesesteak after that. So yeah -- cool room, great staff. But if you're coming here for wings... you might want to bring a fire extinguisher.

I ordered two orders of the wings, two pizzas which taste like cardboard and an order of chicken tenders and tatter tots, it was like 9 tots, along with drinks(4 sodas) only three adult beverages...$268 like how???? Our server kept forgetting stuff like naps and straws, at one point I actually went to the bar to get napkins because I didn't want to feel like I was bothering her. Would I go back, of course, just don't eat anything from there unless you are desperate. Very clean and spacious. I will recommend if you go with a large group reserve two lanes.

Being located upstairs and off by ourselves was aHUGE help in keeping them all ion one place with no interaction with the other, older visitors downstairs, so thanks for that! Finally, I would like to note as we prepared to leave I saw Manager Arturo dash past our group and out the front door and I figured maybe his car was being ticketed....only to find out he had run ahead of us to help the students cross the intersection of Swanson Street and Oregon Avenue. The inside has a great cozy vibe, feeling like a small, quaint pub where you just want to settle in and stay awhile, which in fact we did. We started our meal with two incredible appetizers. First, we built an amazing cheese and ham charcuterie board, choosing 5 different cheeses that were all fantastic. We also ordered the Whipped Ricotta, which was out-of-this-world delicious. The maple syrup drizzle was a perfect touch, and it paired beautifully with the pumpkin seed puree and grilled bread. For my main course, I went with the Beer-Battered Fish & Chips. The fish was cooked absolutely perfectly, crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside, and just super tasty overall. The portion was pretty amazing too. It came served with parmesan chips, malt mayo, malt vinegar, and tartar sauce, which completed the dish perfectly. Even though I was stuffed, I couldn't resist dessert. The cinnamon beignets were light, fluffy, and the absolute perfect ending to a phenomenal meal. The other component I'll mention is there were four of us dining and every single one of us thought the food was just terrific! Not a single complaint! I should also mention the service was attentive and pleasant. Society Hill has a lot of dining options, but this place completely stands out. I'd definitely go back! Highly recommend!
