If you are trying to find a date night that is off the beaten path, look no further. This one scores major brownie points! I will mention that it is a bit of a drive and looks like you're headed to the middle of nowhere so your date may question where the heck you are taking them but the mystery just adds to the awesome experience. When you get there you check in at the gift shop. (Use the bathroom now, just trust me) Then you will see the most unassuming but intriguing free standing door that you have ever seen. Cave without a name is over a hundred steps down, down, down. Enter a quaint but spectacular space underneath the earth with the most perfect acoustics for an instrumental concert. I've taken my children, my fiancée and my brother! It is an incredibly moving experience every time! The violins, the cello, every key stroke resonating so beautifully inside the cave! By day you can tour this cave but by night they hold concerts on specific days and usually beginning after 6pm. The upcoming concerts are listed on their website and while you can pay at the door, I recommend purchasing ahead of time online. read more

This was an absolutely wonderful (and wonder-full) experience for our family. The cave is spectacular, and Kathryn did such an incredible job taking us through the cave and its history, pointing out amazing formations (and explaining how they came to be), and answering our questions. She's a natural teacher; our kids range from 5-10 years old, and Kathryn tuned into and connected with each of them. Cave Without a Name was a highlight of our spring break--if we were local, this is where we'd take all our out-of-town guests. As it is, we'd love to plan another trip to the area and visit again! read more

Authentic experience. The cave is fascinating and it has an interesting history. I love going there with out of town guests.

My best friend and I drove down from Houston to see the cave and it did not disappoint!! When we first got there I was super excited to see they had a geode cutting station set up outside. Once we walked in we were greeted by Elaine who showed us around the shop and answered any questions we had about the crystals they sell. Mike cut our geodes and he was super nice! Elaine was our tour guide. She's VERY knowledgeable and informative about the history of the cave and its formation. She made the tour very fun and interactive and was very patient and friendly. I highly recommend her as a tour guide and make sure you ask her to sing in the cave because her singing is beautiful! We will be back for sure! read more

The cave was absolutely gorgeous. I found the formations to be beautiful, it was wonderful and the air was cool (even in this Texas summer) and it was a great family based adventure. The walking was mild enough that my grandmother was able to do the entire cave (with occasionally holding onto my dad's arm or one of her grandchildren) including the 120+ stairs up and down (it totals about an 8 story walk, as our guide told us.) The three star rating had nothing to do with the cave at all, but everything to do with the manager. I believe his name was Mike, and he was our tour guide. I came in contact with several other guides, all of whom seemed to be very wonderful, but this man was the worst. He was impatient, rude about waiting for people (that had already paid), made unnecessary commentary about "straying" from the group and threatened to rush us out when we were simply trying to be eager and excited, and while I'm sure he was doing the best he could, was also just factually incorrect sometimes. If you can get a different guide, do! This cave is still a must see for anyone in the area, and it is a wonderful family outing. There were 12 of us (across three generations) and everyone had a blast. There were also some hiking trails that were pretty moderate (though not recommended in summer heat and pants). Overall, awesome place. Might go back with friends. read more

What could be a better setting for the presentations at the Texas Speleological (caves & cave exploration) Association than inside a Texas cave? We had that pleasure thanks to the generosity and efforts of the owner and staff of the Registered Natural Landmark show cave known as Cave Without a Name in Boerne, Texas. This facility provided not only an extraordinary meeting room for our cave-related research and exploration papers, but also a comfortable campground with a pavilion large enough to accomodate our outdoor dinner and auction. This meeting gives members of the TSA, the Texas Region of the National Speleological Society to convene once a year and learn about advances in cave exploration from Texas and around the world. The cave passage we used as a meeting room is suitable for events such as weddings or conferences of up to 200 people, and the campground would be a fine place for retreats, family reunions, etc. Highly Recommended! read more

This place provided the best cave experience ever. It is a smaller operation which makes it perfect. They don't really do tour times but just give a tour when they have people. They were only 8 people on the tour and it was the perfect size. Every one could hear, keep up and ask questions. The guy that gave the tour was very knowledgable and you could tell he loved the cave. The ticket prices were a little higher then I expected but it was totally worth it. read more

This is a wonderful cavern. Small in length but nice formations. It had a lot of lovely "cave curtains" formations. The ones that look like thin wavy fabric hanging from the walls. Tour lasts about 45 minutes. We passed through several huge rooms and ended at a large underground river. You turn and head back the way you came in. It's a steep stair climb down and up. Down being the easy part so be prepared. The cavern is relatively level once inside. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable but a little long winded in the answers. He pointed out the usual funny shaped rocks with names and turned off the lights creating total blackness. You can spot some bats on the ceiling and walls if you have a good eye. Worth a trip and you are allowed to take photos. read more

This is a great find off the beaten path. The tour into the cave is about 45 minutes. The temperature in the cave is about 68 degrees, but there is 95% humidity, so t-shirt and shorts are perfect for your trek down into the cave. The tour guide provided great stories as to how the cave was discovered and you are also able to take as many pictures as you want. I have never been to any of the other caves/caverns, but this was an incredible experience without the craziness of an attraction right off I-35. read more

Female tour guide very knowledgable and friendly! I was in a small group of 5 (tour guide included). We were told about geode formation -and allowed to hear the acoustic. There are concerts that take place in the cave, but not sure how often. You travel down 80ft into the cave. It doesn't seem like much going down, but coming up is a little rough. Everyone is encouraged to take their time on the way out. I attempted CascadeCave, but was redirected here due to fear of confined spaces. It was well worth the drive! Highly recommend!!!! read more

One of the best caves ever. Way the heck out in BFE. You drive back some dusty country road and there is a little shack. When we got there, no one was there, a sign just said "down in the cave." So we just waited on the porch. A spell later, some old fellow rambled up and agreed to take us down. There are just holes in the ground, and one has a staircase built into it. Nobody else but else. Very pretty, not like a typical show cave. And at the back, an underground river (big too!) rushing through the cave. Who knows where it goes? you can go further, but you have to be a real spelunker. read more

This is the real deal. It made a fun, cool outing on a summer day, just far enough from San Antonio to know you have escaped the city and not so far that it takes all day to get home. You have to be able to climb 7 or 8 flights of steep stairs. Going down's fun for everybody, but some people had trouble getting back up. Once down, you see the natural limestone formations. They don't fancy them up with colored lights, just authentic geology. The tour lasts about 45 minutes so sometimes you'll have to wait for your turn. There's a little rock shop and porch swing to while away the wait. Highly recommend it! read more

The party pavilion is spacious and the clear enclosure and wood fire in the fireplace kept the temperature comfortable. First of all, the drive out to the cave from Blanco was beautiful. The scenery was meadows and woodland, the road was rolling hills and the sky was gorgeous blue. I like that they've painted on the building's wall "You Found Us" because it is pretty far off the beaten track. I pulled up to see Michael chatting with a mom and her two pre-teen (wild) kids. He greeted me, asked if I wanted to take the tour, and said I could get in on this one. I paid inside and we were off. No waiting! Yes!! Michael was beyond patient with the two children. He did have to remind them of the rules several times (Michael goes first!). He would describe an area and then ask if there were any questions. In this way we were able to learn about the giant clusters of daddy long legs on the cave's entry walls (I hope you are not squeamish!!). Michael patiently answered all questions and pointed out the four bats in the cave for the young girl. The tour does not involve a lot of walking and the cave is 126 steps down (80 feet). There were many beautiful formations (bacon, drapery, thrones, pillars, etc) and Michael talked about how extensive the cave is (and might be...it is not completely explored). The tour lasted about an hour. Michael was very thorough and gave us a lot of interesting facts and stories. The cave's name, by the way, is the result of a contest that was held to decide on a name. A boy submitted and entry saying that the cave was too beautiful to be named. And there you go. I liked that this cave wasn't run as commercially as Natural Bridge Caverns...no zipline, no 8x10 photo of you in the cave taken by a photographer and presented for purchase at the end. (They were also not as militant as Caverns of Sonora and their saga of the broken butterfly wing.) It seemed like what it was...a privately owned property where the owners want to share their treasure with the public. They do offer concerts in the cave...I thought that was cool. The acoustics would be awesome. read more

Privately owned cave and not part of a park system. Definitely worth going to see! It is a living cave and is constantly changing. The tour guide we had is the one that usually gives the tours. She is very knowledgeable about the cave and she herself has done some of the spelunking in the cave. The cave is beautiful and is unusually full of many kinds of different formations. Not that I am an expert but I have been in a few caves and this truly was a beautiful cave with many different formations. It is certainly worth going and spending the $10 to see. There was a couple who had just been in another cave in the area and they were astounded with "Cave Without A Name" saying it had more varieties of formations than the cave they saw earlier and some of the other caves they had experienced. It was also interesting to see and hear about the University of Texas' studies they were doing in the cave. It is a short drive east of Boerne. There is plenty of parking and even a place to camp. The gift shop is where you purchase "tickets" and wait to go down into the cave. The bathroom is clean and the water is non-potable water from the cave. read more

My 2 kids (5 and 2) my mother, 2 brothers and sister in law went to the cave yesterday. The cave was beautiful and amazing. The reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because the tour guide Mike was rude. He kept on my kids about picking up rocks even before they would go and pick up rocks. My family and I were on top of the kids making sure not to break the cave rules and he was over stepping numerous times. He made the experience unenjoyable. read more

My kids can't stop talking about our visit here over spring break. What a hidden gem! The cave itself is beautiful, the tour guide was great and presented information that even my 5 year old was later repeating. The gift shop is really special. Instead of selling cheesy plastic junk they have all sorts of interesting gem stones and minerals and fossils. My son got to choose a geode and watch it be cut open. A little out of the way, but way worth the time. Prices are a bit steep for a smaller cave, but the personable nature of the tour and experience make up for it. Joseph was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable about the history of the cave and the formations throuhgout. The gift shop is nice and the parking is plentiful. Tours start whenever enough show up to tour. Tour is about 45 mins to 1 hour and requires enough stamina to walk up 8 stories of stairs. A must see for cave lovers. read more

I surprised my husband with a trip here and it was amazing! My husband likes things like this and I was just along for the ride but surprisingly I ended up really enjoying myself! Like some of the other review, we felt like we were in the middle of nowhere and when we got there, we were the only ones there. We apparently got there at a good time so we received a "personal" tour. The tour guide was very very knowledgeable and you could tell she really enjoyed explaining everything. The history of the cave is extremely interesting and historical. When we were finishing the tour a large group of about 20 people were going down so I am glad we got there when we did. This tour makes me want to explore more caves in our area and really made me find a love for caves that I didn't know I had! read more
