Came in to celebrate my hubby's birthday and Father's Day all on same day. We had reservations for our party of 5, but didn't need it since it's the "off season" and not too busy. We opted to sit outside to watch the sunset but it's a bit hard to see from the direction their patio sits, but still beautiful. Service started off friendly enough but sometimes the responses from our waiter came off as condescending and not friendly. Food was good and so was the cocktail I had (Gila Monster.) We will be back to try more of their dishes and hopefully we'll get a friendlier waiter. P.S. It would have been a nice touch if they acknowledged my husband's birthday as I had mentioned it when I made the reservation, but they didn't. I would have given 3.5 stars based on the two misses but YELP doesn't allow for half stars and since the food and ambiance was very good, I'm opting for 4 stars. Beautiful location! Great for a date night, a girls night or a group outing. We went for the happy hour on a Friday night in December and sat outside. The weather was perfect, but I'd suggest bringing a light sweater. We had the Cabernet Sauvignon and the loaded tater tots (which were definitely loaded with birria meat!) and cast-iron charred Shishito peppers. Everything was delicious. We'll be back for dinner! Roman (a.k.a. Jeremiah ;) was wonderful as was the entire staff. Everyone was professional, accommodating and genuine. The website has some misleading information: it says the happy hour goes until six and we saw a fish fry option which apparently ended in September. Hopefully they fix that soon! read more

We had our summit gathering and socializing taking place here against the backdrop of sunset! After the happy hour, we decided to try their menu option. We ordered wings, calamari and bread to share. Each of them was fantastic! We also ordered a few individual dishes. I got the shrimp salad which is alright (avocado not ripe enough). But the quality of service is at the top and really great! Pro tip: the google map has its location wrong (inside the Ritz Carlton hotel). It should be 5 mins drive from the hotel and the hotel offers shuttle too. read more

Probably our favorite casual dining spot when we visit Dove Mountain. The views of the sunset on the patio are spectacular! Service can be hit or miss. Friday we had Nicole as our server & she was FANTASTIC! bison burger is very good as is the Caesar Salad. Add shrimp & pepitas-thank me later. Unfortunately Saturday night they were using a new bartender who was struggling and when my husband ordered a drink our server actually said to him "Good luck with that". It was literally bourbon and an ice cube. The people next to us waited over 20 minutes for 2 beers. Management should have stepped in and helped out the person struggling. What a great change to eating at the Ritz main property! They provide a free shuttle back and forth. It is an absolutely beautiful property. I chose to eat outside. I had a view of the golf course and there was an event with a large group in another part of the restaurant. It was super pleasant outside. I even saw a road runner while sitting there! George was great! I said I was leaning towards pizza and he suggested the "spicy" meat one. It was thin crust and made from scratch and baked in a wood fire oven. I'm guessing it was 14 inches, so I had plenty left to take with me for lunch tomorrow. George even asked if I wanted a tea or take with. After I finished, they called a shuttle to return me to the hotel. Could not have had a more pleasant bite to eat! Recommended. read more

Nice option for those staying at the Ritz, just show up at valet 5-10 minutes before your reservations to hop on the shuttle. Great views from the patio - plan your meal around sunset - they have misters for warmer nights and a beautiful fireplace for cooler ones. Kids menu is the same across the board (meal/side/drink/dessert) for all restaurants/poolside service, with some more interesting options than you'll see on most kids' menus. I had the Dove Mountain burger which was delicious, the fries were only ok and the side of ranch I asked for was not great. Be sure to make reservations (can do online) as they don't seem to take walk ins and the concierge was not helpful for a same night request. read more

We chose Cayton's for a birthday dinner with friends. We were seated on the patio, and the views at sunset are lovely. Throughout the evening, our server was attentive without being overbearing. We started out with libations, and the bartender kindly created a Finnish long drink for me (not on the menu). It was spot on. My partner and friends enjoyed the wine and margarita they selected. Our Old Bay Cheddar Biscuits arrived not long after. They are perfectly-sized (i.e., smallish), and the cajun honey butter adds an extra pop. Much better than those found at an unnamed chain. For dinner, my partner selected the fried cod and replaced the fries with a house salad. I took a taste and found the breading to be light with little to no salt, which let the fish shine. The fish also was free of grease. Yay! I selected heirloom cornmeal crusted salmon. The salmon was cooked perfectly, but the crunch on the outside was a strange texture to me. For me, the star was the brown butter corn pudding, butternut farrosotto, and chow chow that came with it. Yum! Next time, I plan to try the squash fritters. Our friends each had the lobster mac and cheese. The menu lists this under starters, but plan to share! While they both thoroughly enjoyed the dish, they also had ample leftovers. Finally, it wouldn't be a birthday dinner without dessert. Many reviews fondly mention the shakes. So, we got one of each. I really enjoyed my salted pecan praline, especially the ample caramel swirl and the "happy birthday" chocolate disc on top. My partner happened to have a gift card that covered the cost of our meal. If this hadn't been the case, I might have hesitated on the 5 stars. Prices are commensurate with the Ritz. Had dinner with nine of us on a Tuesday night. When we made the reservation, they asked us to pick our entree's prior, and sign a contract! OK, not the biggest of deals with a large party , but sometimes you're never sure of what you're in the mood for. Sign a contract, really? They said we can order apps, salads and drinks upon arrival. Fine, moving on since our choices were limited at the report. We were sat inside (though preferred outside), which was very nice. Wish they would have offered us a choice. This Northeast traveler would have preferred an outdoor meal. The waitress promptly took drink orders and didn't come back for quite some time. Once she returned, we asked for menus (for apps, salads) as planned. She looked at me like a deer in headlights. She said "oh your food is already being prepared. I wasn't told you'd would be interested in anything else." Well, how about asking? She shoved the contract in my face and said, see? There's no mention of anything else." Isn't that what a waitress does? Did she really think among nine guests there was no interest in salads or an app? She proceeded to get menus and soon came back to take orders. Most everyone ordered something. Unfortunately it got even worse. The food came out 10 minutes later, then our apps and salads 5 minutes after that. Just a huge breakdown in basic communication. Everyone that received a non-steak enjoyed their actual choice, though 5 people ordered the aged steak, which did not stand out or taste like a true aged steak. Not bad, but a consensus disappointment. Lobster risotto stood out, but small. The burger got a rave review. The Caesar salad (for my dessert) was great. Just didn't want that as a dessert. I would have preferred something chocolate! In summary, a swing and a huge miss for a Ritz Carlton dining experience. This one lays blame on the server. She just respectfully seemed clueless. Dinner last night was incredible. Drove up to Dove Mountain for the weekend the hotel suggested we have dinner here. Madison was our server and she was one of the best ever! We ordered quite a few things we sat outside on the balcony and the view was beautiful with the sunset at the mountains. Everything we ordered was extremely well cooked well seasoned and tasted great! They went out of their way to make sure that our cocktails were correct we made up a few cocktails and they came out perfect. But the food was over the top everything was on point every side every entrée I had no complain about not one single thing we ordered I would highly recommend this place if you're up in the Dove Mountain area and definitely ask for Madison! read more

This is a wonderfully situated space at Dove Mtn overlooking the course with a great view of the surrounding mountains. There's a roomy outdoor patio and ample seating inside. Service is ample and attentive. Beyond that? We used to joke it was 100 dollar hamburgers - back when the menu had half a dozen different burgers. That menu has been pared down significantly and you're paying resort (howdy Ritz Carlton) prices for generous but mediocre sandwiches. Chicken was over cooked and had an odd texture, Reuben was ok but nothing either one of us who grew up around great NY delis would have said was great. Best part for us - both this time and last - was the milkshake. Just delish. We come back for the place and the view more than the food these days. Recently went to try Caytons at Dove Mountain. Drinks were ok, and the appetizer was pretty good. Little Cajun style biscuits, I forget the name of them now though. Dinner was really good. Wife had the Salmon which was excellent and I had the Smoked Pork Chop which was very good. I think the collared greens might have need to cook maybe a minute longer but that's my only comment. We had an unexpected dinner guest join us for a bit which was fun. Brave little Roadrunner hanging around. Didn't see his buddy Wil E though. We had the S'mores and caramel milkshakes for dessert. Not a huge milkshake fan but there's were good! Menu isn't packed full of stuff which is nice I think. Easier to make a decision. Service was very good. We had a nice view of the golf course and mountains sitting outside. We'll definitely be going back for lunch or dinner. I would recommend giving Caytons a try for sure. read more

I hate to be writing this review as I previously gave Caytons a 5 star. Last night me and my friends went out for the evening to dine at Caytons, the evening started off amazing. We ordered the fried calamari and it was delicious. The night took a bit of a turn when our server, not sure on the name but was a blonde with glasses, disappeared and we didn't see her for the rest of the night. Someone else brought our food and drinks. We were also given the check by the bartender. We did see her at the end when we were walking out and I unfortunately did smell a bit of liquor when strolling past her at the host stand. I expect more from the management with noticing these things. I may return but will request not to have her. This is THEE premier dining experience in all of the Dove Mountain/Oro Valley area, 2nd to none, without a doubt! Ready for a secret? Happy Hour from 3-6 was VERY REASONABLE. Setting: 10/10 stars whether inside or out you have a choice of pristine seating options, near the driving range outside or inside by the swanky bar or double fireplace. Speaking of fireplaces, outside seating also offers a dual fireplace for cozy evening events. We had an incredible view of the golf course with a fabulous sunset in a stunning setting. Service: 10/10 stars with wonderful Alyssa (pronounced Eh-LISA) and her beaming smile, she was SUPER attentive, kind and over-the-top accommodating any reasonable request made by our dining party. Kitchen: 10/10 stars as they happily replaced the pork with salmon on their phenomenal flatbread. Uh....TRY IT! How delicious to meet you! If that wasn't great enough, their tap list featured one of our most favorite IPAs from Tirrito Farms of Wilcox, Arizona as their Tombstone-like NECTARON IPA is mind blowing. The wine list is nothing short of spectacular, but spectacular may fall a little short in describing this incredible destination. I'll give you the short version to start with, but I think you should read the rest of this review to hear more about our excellent dining experience at Cayton's. The food was outstanding, the service was phenomenal (more on that later, but I'm not using that word lightly), and the ambiance was not only safe but warm and very comfortable. The phenomenal service started before we'd even arrived at the restaurant, when I'd contacted them by email to inquire about gluten-free options, and engaged in a very helpful, informative, accommodating, yet personal conversation with a few of the restaurant personnel, including the gracious chef Peller himself, who assured me we'd have plenty of gluten-free options (usually, we get one or two options but when chef let us know they have a dedicated fryer and other equipment, so the number of gluten-free options actually exceeded our expectations even at that! It's great to know you can trust your gluten-free dining experience including the management of the risk of cross-contamination. You just don't see that kind of accommodating approach that much from other restaurants. Cayton's really delivered on this aspect, as well as all the others. But for us, eating out is not just a matter of whether we can get gluten-free items, but the quality of the food and service. Our server, Joe, was on top of his game. I'd seen other reviewers mention him by name and I can see why now. And I'm sure the other servers are very good as well, but Joe just had a pleasant demeanor, a solid knowledge of the menu (both food and drink), great timing (checking on us to see if we need anything else), and an engaging personality. It was really pleasant having Joe as our server. We were very fortunate to have chef Peller stop by our table and to be able to converse with him. He's got a very engaging personality and he is putting out dishes that are not just solid but memorably excellent. I mean, the food quality at Cayton's Burger Bistro is absolutely top notch! Don't dismiss the tater tots as just another comfort food appetizer. These babies were amazing! First of all, the presentation was great, in that metal mesh basket, so you can see that delicious load of tater tots sitting there, waiting for you to dig in. Secondly, the texture was just perfect. The way you remember tater tots from your childhood, but I sincerely doubt the tots you had as a child tasted nearly as good as these. Crispy on the outside, tender and fluffy on this inside, with true potato flavor and a little spice. I don't even know how he does it. I mean, there's not only no oily residue on the tots, but you're not even gonna see it on your fingers. You just keep on grabbing another one and enjoying. Chicken drumettes were also great, very nice crispy outside and tender inside, but it's hard to compete with the tater tots. Next time we may even go for the mini pork shank "wings" (the dish is called "if pigs could fly"). Just a lot to choose from here. Burger itself was excellent, I really loved how I could taste that little char on the outside, but still have perfectly (medium well) cooked temperature, delicious beef flavor, and the right amount of cheese and lettuce. In fact, I think he might have actually placed the slice of cheese immediately next to the bun, which I thought was a nice touch (instead of placed atop the burger patty), because it changes the dynamic in a good way, I think you get a better balance of meat/cheese taste that way, it was almost as if the cheese slice was part OF the bun. Anyway, definitely a solid burger, with several preparation options. Happy hour is a great deal, too. Pretty nice quality $6 wine glasses, very pleased with both the white blend and the Pinot noir. And plenty of dishes to choose from. And in terms of our comfort level related to health and safety practices related to COVID, we couldn't have felt more comfortable. Staff were wearing both masks and gloves, tables were spaced more than adequately far apart (plus it's a nice big dining area, so it's easy to separate folks safely), patrons were required to wear masks (including to/from the restroom), it was just good to see them taking it seriously. It really was just a very pleasant and even special dining experience. For us, Cayton's Burger Bistro demonstrated not just the ability to make dining out during the COVID pandemic work, but that you can actually have a wonderful meal and a very enjoyable dining experience - just like before the COVID days. read more

Change is inevitable. No matter how endeared we are to a moment, we can't withstand the tides of change crashing against our shores. Change can be the dark clouds ominously approaching our blue skies, or the sun bursting through the clouds. When Cayton's transformed into Cayton's Burger Bistro, this was a fantastic example of the latter. Offering tremendous creativity with burgers and shakes both of the regular and adult variety. A selection of gourmet-style burgers that competed, and in some cases exceeded, Zinburger in Tucson. Sadly, this was all hampered by the horribly inconsistent hours of operation that felt like you had to be a part of a secret society in order to find out. My previous review might of been three stars, but it never stopped me coming back. During the holidays with the family, or whenever else, we enjoyed a variety of burgers. While some of our favorites (bean burger, crabby patty) went into witness protection, there was always a delightful new wonder awaiting. This culminated with a family visit in July of 2021, where we arguably had our best meal there. Decadent appetizers like aptly named Loaded Tots, to mouthwatering burgers like the Steakhouse. It kept us coming back throughout the rest of the year, culminating with my last visit in January of 2022. The only thing that stopped me from updating my previous review to a five star one was a lack of time to sit down and write one. This was my first time back, and this time I was determined to update my review to reflect it. Unfortunately, my return wasn't to Cayton's Burger Bistro. It was to Cayton's Restaurant. I see those dark clouds coming in, and there's thunder and lightning accompanying them. Gone are the incredibly creative and divine burgers from the evening menu, they've been moved to the lunch menu from what we were told. The menu itself seems to of shifted towards a more southern(?) style of cooking. I was informed that there are plans to put a burger on the evening one, though. Gone are the creative takes on simple apps, so we tried a new one. The fresh bread! Reminiscent of Hawaiian Rolls, they're fresh and delicious, with a unique kind of spread. but a $12 app it was not. Especially in comparison to something like the Loaded Tots. I settled for a staple I had stolen a few bites of in the past, the Fish and Chips. I thought the sun might burst through, but instead the pouring rain came. Radically different, while the fish was delicious the rest of the meal was fairly mediocre. My parents, one who had the Blackened Salmon and the other who had the Fish and Chips also, reported similar sentiments. By no means were they bad, the batter on the fish looks thick but is extremely light and tasty, but considering the price of these dishes ($40 Salmon, $36 F&C) we weren't blown away in the slightest. The dishes themselves lacking that punch of flavor that the apps and burgers all had before. Perhaps that's from our expectations, and clearly there is talent in the kitchen, but our entire meal was a let down from what we had known over the years. However, the biggest change was to our wallets. Cayton's had always been on the more upper end of pricing, but this new menu is the most expensive I've seen this place yet. I posted a picture of the old menu, from December 2021, to demonstrate this with the Fish and Chips alone. A six dollar increase isn't much, but considering I found the previous Fish and Chips to be superior? It makes it hard to justify continued patronage. If this kind of meal was offered at half the price? I'd be hard pressed to say anything. but as it stands? I regretfully have to say this was the most mediocre meal I've had at any of the Ritz Carlton restaurants since I started coming here 12 years ago. While burgers are suppose to be on the lunch menu, given the almost entire menu revamping and changes to dishes we were familiar with I'm sadly quite skeptical of what those may be like. The service was fantastic though! We were informed that the menu change was geared to cater to the patrons, but considering this was the most barren I've seen the place since I started coming more frequently back in July 2021? It's with heavy heart that I say I think the decision makers were a bit off base. I can't speak to the day-to-day business, however. Who knows, maybe this has already been a huge hit! If this sounds harsh or cruel, I don't mean for it to be. I genuinely like this place. Having a unique burger that was nothing short of divine so close to home at a very reasonable price was a dream. I had a take out burger from here and chose The smokehouse burger, wagyu burger with all the fixings. It was a meal for sure, and sometimes the fixings overpowered the burger which is a shame because the burger was delicious and the fixings are delicious. They cooked it perfectly to order medium rare,but next time I'll likely get it slightly more done as the smoke flavor adds a dimension and rare doesn't give it time to develop. The service was impeccable and friendly and if I hadn't had to get back to work I would have loved to eat it there.. it came with fries and they were the perfect amount to fill you up. We recently brought guests and were embarrassed and disappointed... Cayton's needs to take their Margarita Pizza off of the menu: For $29, the pizza was thin, like paper, and soggy. The sauce tasted like it was right from a can and the mozzarella blobs were sparse and tasteless. Outdoor service was excellent, btw. Salad was to die for...like when I ate it I thought "wow, this is how people get salmonella". The food is awful and The Ritz Carlton Dove Mountain is shameless. We have been to this restaurant both times we visited the Dove Mountain area and both times it did not disappoint! I am a tater tot fanatic so they won me over with their delicious tater tots. However, everything we ate was awesome. We started with the loaded tater tots and the Mac and cheese-- yum-- I had the 19th hole for my meal, all paired with a couple glasses of their delicious sangria. My family all ordered one of their adult chocolate shakes for dessert, and they ended up making an extra so my fiancé and I got to share one. It was so rich and tasty. My only complaint would be we had made a reservation to sit outside, and when we got there they didn't have a table re for us, but we were able to enjoy cocktails in their outdoor bar area while we waited. The service was great, and if we vacation in this area again, I'm sure we will visit for a third time! read more

On a recent weekend away with my husband, we spent back-to-back evenings at Cayton's to watch the sunset and have some drinks... Nested right on the golf course, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, attentive staff, live music, and a solid menu, I'm definitely a fan. They have heat lamps and fireplaces for anyone that needs (ie: me), which I appreciated. I noticed several families with kids enjoying the Ritz Kids Menu, so I hope to bring my kids back for a visit in the future. Dogs are welcome on the patio as well. (Just don't let them run as there are javelinas and coyotes in the distance)! If you're staying at the nearby hotel, change it up and take the shuttle (or walk or ride your bike) to Cayton's for a drink or a bite... you will not be disappointed. Enjoy! read more

I have heard talk for years about Cayton's and food from chef Quinn. Finally got the opportunity to try, and let me tell you it did not disappoint!! If you want the most delicious wings in your life, come here- my boyfriend insists I mention ("didn't need breading, they were cooked perfectly crispy, they would have been good with no sauce at all even") . The place itself is a little tricky to find. Google maps takes you the wrong way, so when the person directs you at the gate, listen to them ! Once there, every single thing we received was perfect, and so was the staff and atmosphere. Upon entry we met Ing, whom was so sweet and personable. There was a big party buyout, but within the first couple minutes she snuck over to tell us she had the perfect table she snagged for us near the fireplace . Aaron was our server and he was fantastic. We met George and Sarah and chef Brett...honestly the whole staff was phenomenal. The real heart of this place was clear when we finally met Chef Quinn - so friendly and polite and clearly knows his stuff. Wow!!! This is definitely a hidden gem of Tucson. This was the weirdest dining experience I have ever had. The first thing the server did once we were seated was ask if we wanted water and listed off the many options of water. Everyone at my table asked for simple tap water and the server came round with a pitcher to fill our glasses. We all took a sip at the same time, and we were all horrified as whatever we were served wasn't water. It tasted like a vinegar cleaning solution. We called the server over, and explained that what we were given wasn't water. She took a sniff and agreed, apologized, and after about 10 minutes brought glasses already filled with water. The weirdest thing was, none of the staff seemed concerned and the manger did not come over until I asked the server. We really only wanted an explanation and an appropriate-sized apology. We got a weak one at best. I wish we had left at that point, but we were all hungry, so we ordered. The overpriced food was mediocre. I ordered a salad which had a very weird flavor and tomato soup which was okay but a bit salty. My spouse got the BBQ special and he said it was pretty good. The only thing outstanding about this dining experience was the location and ambiance. I will not dine here again. read more

Also, really appreciated the vegan options on the menu - we had a kale salad with grilled pears & the impossible burger, which were both great! Service was prompt and views were amazing. Cayton's is set around the Ritz Carlton Dove Mountain golf course. We tried to get a table around sunset time but one wasn't available. The ambiance was great with light garlands all around and the breezy open patio. The menu is limited to mostly apps,salads, burgers, and perhaps three proper entrees. We got the birdie, one with salad and one with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was huge and delish! Fries were a tad overcooked... prices are a little on the higher side, but what can you do? Cayton's is by far the most consistent, enjoyable dining option available to guests staying at Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain. In fact, although the menu is casual and we had reservations at Core for Christmas dinner, we ended up cancelling to eat at Cayton's after having a delicious meal there for lunch (as well as the night before) and hearing from the couple we were paired with at the course that Core was not good at all. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner and will certainly be dining at Cayton's as our first choice the next time we stay at Dove Mountain. The only disappointment is the menu is inconsistent (not what is posted as current on the website) and there are a lot of up charges depending on the server. In addition, while we had great service on Christmas Eve and for lunch on Christmas Day, our server wasn't great for Christmas dinner. He was disengaged and clearly didn't want to be working. Unfortunately, my biggest gripe is that a couple of men wanted to smoke cigars on the dining patio immediately adjacent to where we were sitting (by the fireplace) and were told that while not "technically" legal in AZ, the restaurant staff wouldn't say anything and would bring over a heater. Well, I wasn't going to sit and have Christmas dinner while choking on secondhand smoke and told them that wasn't OK. Fortunately, the employee took the men to another area (although they should have told them it was non-smoking altogether). I've always loved Caytons. The service was good this trip but I was disappointed in the menu. We've always loved the upscale casual atmosphere of burgers, milkshakes, and incredible views. The menu left much to be desired. The cheddar briskets, although outrageously expensive, were very good. I really want to return, but I'm not sure it's the right fit for us anymore. read more

Don't order the fried chicken unless you like way overcooked fried to the point of the turkey from National Lampoons Christmas vacation. The Mac and cheese, sweet potatoes and milk shake desserts are excellent. read more
