Such a cool spot. You walk downstairs to get to this bar off Spring. It provides a bit of a speakeasy feel. The bar is dark but great energy at the same time. The bar tender made it a point to greet and feel every patron walking in feel at home. Very welcoming and friendly. I went to Crane's with a girlfriend to see a musician she knew who was playing on Saturday. The people at the door were friendly and asked if we were there for the band or bar and we said band, paid for the tickets and went into the bar. I don't know if they were charging for the bar but there was no difference in where we were as the stage was at the back of the bar. It was dimly lit but had a wide variety of spirits and the bar itself had character. My girlfriend asked what kind of Tequila they had as it was pretty dimly lit so more difficult to see what was available but she settled on a Correlejo on the rocks, splash of soda. I asked the Bartender, Chris, if they had Stoli Blueberry. He said yes. He went to make our drinks (I got a Stoli Blueberry Press) and I handed him my credit card and told him to close it out. I tasted my drink and it seemed off. Like fake blueberry. When he brought the tab back I went to see if there was an itemized receipt and sure enough, it said Hangar Blueberry. So I asked the Bartender again, excuse me, do you have Stoli Blueberry? No, I have Hangar Blueberry. Well, I didn't order Hangar, I ordered Stoli. He said he'd fix the error, so I asked for a Well Vodka Press. He came back with my drink and I asked if he needed my credit card to adjust the receipt, he said no, and just walked away. I think most people know that a Well spirit is going to cost less than a Call spirit. Considering the Correlejo was $14 and my Hangar was $15, I guessed the Well would be around $11. In this interaction, Chris came across as entitled and like he didn't care about us as patrons or whether or not we got what we ordered. I sipped that one drink the rest of the night but my girlfriend wanted another so she ordered her Correlejo on the rocks with a splash of soda but a drink in a bucket glass came with liquid to the top. She asked Chris what it was and he said a Tequila soda. She said she didn't order a Tequila soda but wanted it on the rocks with a splash of soda water. He fixed the drink for her and told her to keep the other one as well. We didn't order complicated drinks. We spent money to get into the bar and at the bar immediately upon entering but the whole experience just left a bad taste in my mouth. I love a great dive bar, but I wouldn't come back here due to the poor service and lack of concern for the guest. read more

Pretty cool bar! It's down in a basement and def has dive vibes. I didn't drink but had a sip of my bfs and it was strong! They were decorating the tree and asked the customers to help, so I helped hang some stuff. Everyone there ordered some drink called the "dickstorm". No joke. Haha. Have a couple guys order that! This place is a great hang. A nice dive bar. Bartenders are cool and on point. A block from the Orpheum so great for after or pre-show.

I love Crane's. Sometimes you just want a good dive. Cheap, strong drinks. Unpretentious and eclectic crowd. Dark, fun, and moody interior. A literal underground dive in an old bank vault. You might pass the sign outside next to Terroni that points you down the stairs. It's a great place to start or end the night. Inside is a bit tight but there's plenty of seating. It makes for a good social environment. Been here a few times and was always able to make small talk with other patrons. There's also some cool booths in the back of the bar. Staff was cool and friendly. They pour heavy, just how I like it. Add Crane's to your next downtown crawl. Street parking fills up fast, but there's also a few pay lots within a block or two. read more

Horrible customer service on behalf of the Bar owner and the Bartender Nick! We were a party of 4 attempting to place our drink orders with Nick, when the bar didn't carry our first nor our second choice of alcohol. I jokingly stated, "What do you have then?" Nick mockingly responded "It's a full bar!" and walks away to help other people as if he was done taking our order. At max capacity this bar holds 65 people last night there were probably 15-20 people inside and maybe 2 or 3 people waiting on a drink, including my party of 4, and there were 2 bartenders Nick and the owner. There was certainly no serious pressure on this bartender to help a thirsty crowd to say the least, other than my party of 4 who was prepared to drink the night away starting with not 1 but 2 rounds (just to get the night started), whenever Nick finally decided to come around to serving us. The $96.00 tab was charged to my card and because I'm not a completely unreasonable individual I gave him a well deserved $5 tip after all the man did EVENTUALLY make us our drinks. Apparently, the well-earned $5 tip didn't sit well with Nick, because when it was time for our 3rd round, my friend placed the order with Nick yet again (BIG MISTAKE) and he took our order alright, but SAT ON IT and made it a point to TAKE & SERVE 4-5 other orders before our eyes, and only after completing them he mockingly repeats our order to us, as if to REASSURE US that what he was doing was 100% intentional, pffft, the nerve on this guy! So, at this point, it's obvious Nick cares about his tips, and rightfully so, we gave hun one, "BE A PROFESSIONAL NEXT TIME" written right on the tip section, too which he responded, yelling the note OUT-LOUD for the EVERYONE to hear right to our face, in a delusional manner, and told us to "go fuck yourselves!" Shortly after the DJ was kind enough to point out the owner, who walked with us outside to hear us out only too cut us off mid story and dismiss us by saying, "I would've done the same if you wouldn't of tipped me, you girls have a good night". By sheer definition the word tip is defined a sum of money given to someone as a reward for their services. You aren't entitled to a 20% tip when you make a conscious decision to disregard a group of people for no obvious reason and provide service at your leisure. Tips do not work that way! You want a good tip Nick, then do a better job you Dick! As for the owner, dismissing your undoubtedly highest paying customer's of the night, you found it so easy to dismiss your customers concerns, but I didn't see you dismiss that $100 tab. At least pretend to empathise and hear us out instead of dismissing us mid-sentence, or better yet intervene when your bartender shouts out to your paying customers to "go fuck yourselves". My advice to anyone considering this bar for the night is save your money for a better deserving small business owner who actually values the hard earned money of his customers. My boyfriend and I decided to stop by and have a drink for New Year's Eve before heading home. It is a small cute space that is down a steep set of stairs. The bartender was very friendly and made us a fantastic drink. Then, we ended up having some family and friends join us and we ended up having more drinks. The manager of the place did seem a little on edge the entire night, but he just kept to himself. My brother in law had one of his favorite songs come on and he sang to the entire bar. This is when the manager started to lighten up and the patrons started to liven up. Overall, this was a good find. read more

Downtown dive you'd never know unless you got lost and walk downstairs this building. You'll see a neon sign over a bank safe that will lead you to Crane's Bar. You can tell this place is less travelled. Something, I like a lot since I don't care for crowds. It's clean and serves the basics. It's quite loud in here. Wish they could turn it down a bit. There's a digital jukebox jamming some 80's nostalgic tunes with a few people singing "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" in the background. I came over after having a mediocre dinner at Peking Tavern on a weeknight. There were probably 8 people in this bar all a bit different in their own way, a good thing. As you sit, you'll have a martini glass of popcorn to munch on. Besides the nice bartender, we enjoyed a glass of Black Label neat of course. I met a friend at Peking Tavern on 8th & Hill in DTLA, and he showed me this speakeasy that is across the hallway from PT in an actual former bank vault. Unlike Peking Tavern, Crane's only serves strong drinks at reasonable prices. Don Julio and Ketel One were $12/each: 5 Stars. The space is pretty dank w/ a short bar, a couple of booths, and a few high tables. In addition, there is a small room in the back: 4 Stars. The service was excellent. The bartenders were super nice, and the female one was pretty hawt. The only downside was the wifi wasn't working. You can't obtain a signal in the vault: 4 Stars. This place is a very cool addition to very popular Spring Street (The Falls and Spring St. Bar & Grill are up the street). I need to hang out on Spring more often at Crane's (another incognito place), the previously reviewed PT, or the recently opened Reserve (review to follow). read more

The sexy vault door intrigued us. Nice bouncer checked IDs and we walked through the velvet curtain to a gem of a dive bar. Great casual laid back vibe. A few booths, but most of the seating is at the bar so we took a seat to chat up the staff and learn a bit about the place. There's a game room in the back. Cocktail list was short and simple (see pics). Locals vibe. And they were promoting the fact that they had the NFL games on throughout the season (my dude friends loved that)! I'd come back for the atmosphere but not sit at the bar if she was working. No cell phone reception. Bathrooms are outside the vault door, to the left of Peking Tavern entrance. Yes, I know it's seedy and the clientele before 7pm are questionable, but I can't help it I like this place. Other than the fact that it has the cool underground vibe, I just like how authentic this place feels. It's not trying to be cool, it just issss cool. I came here after work while waiting for a reservation nearby. They had happy hour and so naturally I ordered a Dick Storm Mule (and added a shot of fireball for an extra buck because of some random promotion). I enjoyed my drink and how low key everything was. There are friendlier dives downtown. We had ordered our first drink and had just sat down. They have these fake plastic candles at the tables, my friend was intrigued by it and picked it up just to innocently check it out. This guy calls at my friend from across the bar to put it down. Then a minute he later comes around the bar to our table and takes it away while our whole group is still seated there. Unnecessarily aggressive and immediately made us feel unwelcome. Nice small place downtown. Great selection of beer and next door there is a restaurant you can order food from and they will gladly bring it to your table. I personally like the "high water campfire stout" If you're into stouts of course. Not exactly a sports bar but I still enjoyed watching the Lakers defeat the cavs tonight ! I was here on a Friday and they have a really good DJ who's name I do not know but today for a Sunday the juke box does a really good job! The space is small, most of which is a bar, several red pleather booths, and another small room. They even have enough space for a small one-person stage. We got Moscow Mules, which were just okay. Once inside, it was SO packed we could barely get to the bar. There were a bunch of people just at the bar, not ordering drinks. We waited at the bar for a bit, and were still not served so we left and went to Peking Tavern.
