Our salesperson was very friendly but I found Ethan Allen to be very difficult to do business with. Rather than honoring a $100 coupon (we bought $10k worth of furniture), they wanted us to drive back and present the coupon in person(not scan or fax). We've spent over $15,000 at Ethan Allen on a couch with chase, two chairs and an area rug. The rug and one of the chairs are fine. The other chair's fabric was bunching around the arms and the couch fabric's pattern was irregular and mis-aligned. Ethan Allen sent someone out to look at both pieces and after considerable wait time, they decided to replace the couch and chair as neither could be repaired. The new chair came with the same fabric bunching at the arms and the delivery person told us it would "settle out" in a few days. it didn't. The chair is brand new and looks 25 years old. The new couch came last Wednesday and we loved it. Today however, we noticed a 3 inch stripe of discoloration/fading running down the middle of the chase cushion (see attached picture). it just appeared out of nowhere and it runs the full length of the cushion. in all our years we've never had this much trouble with furniture. We bought from Ethan Allen years ago and were very happy with our purchase, so we felt confident in going back to them. We are very disappointed with this experience and though my wife is willing to somehow work this all out, I want to return everything and start over with a different company. The back and forth is ridiculous and clearly, at least to us, the quality of this company's furniture is sorely lacking. if you are considering Ethan Allen, do so at your own risk. i would not recommend them and I'm hopeful we will be able to return everything, get our money back and start fresh with a more reputable furniture store. I am thrilled with my purchase. Scout is a talented and creative designer with a lovely sense of artistry. My tastes are eclectic, and I like a mix of antique and contemporary furnishings. Our furniture has been well loved and well worn, to the point of being dilapidated. It's long past the time to replace our couches and chairs, so without knowing where to go and what to do after searching endlessly for ideas online, a friend suggested going to Corte Madera's Ethan Allen showroom. They offer professional decorating expertise at no charge. Really? That was just what I needed. So, I walked into the Corte Madera Ethan Allen showroom, met Scout Burgess, one of their decorators, and we just hit it off. I explained what I was looking for. She listened, we walked around and I sat on various couches and chairs, got some good first thoughts, and then we set up a time for her to come to my home. Once at our free home appointment, I walked her all through the house, explaining further what we wanted in this room and that. Her warm presence, clear level of expertise and product knowledge is incredible! She measured. Took notes. Then got back to me with terrific ideas and floor plans. I then spent time with her back at the showroom, discussing and then finalizing products, fabrics and finishes. Ethan Allen does not stand by its products. I have been a loyal customer for years (as have my 3 sisters) . I have purchased couches, ,chairs, entertainment center etc) and have been very pleased with the quality of their furniture until now. A couple of years ago I replaced my living room couch and chair. The chair is fine BUT the fabric on the arms of the couch has completely discolored. When I spoke to a manager, Susan Witkowski, she initially told me "we stand by our products." and they would make this right. The best she could come up with is that MAYBE they would pay for half of the cost to have it cleaned. ( there is not one spot on the couch except the discoloration of the arms , which cleaning would not fix. She also told me they no longer carry the fabric. Another manager told me that they only guarantee the fabric for one year, so unless u want to recover your Ethan Allen couch every few years, go elsewhere. read more

Love my furniture - Really disappointed in the service. I started by going through the profiles online of the designers and I picked one that had a background and experience that most met my needs. He did not respond to initial requests for consultation, but eventually I got a hold of him via phone and he handed me off to someone else. The other person came out and helped me pick and design a table and chair set but I feel like did not provide me with any knowledge or expertise. For example, they did not advise on the best shape/size etc for the dining room size I have, instead asking 'do you want this or that?'. She would ask me to pick a color from the samples, but I had to myself work out what matched the floor tiling and back splash. I honestly expected them to be the expert, but felt that all I got was the catalog of samples laid out. When asked very specifically this or that, she would provide answers, but never with any reasoning (such as it would bring out the corresponding tones in the tiling etc). One of the few things that I requested and was very very clear on requiring was a table that was solid wood - no distressing and no holes. I spoke with her about a friend who also go a table from ethan allen and it was distressed, even though the sample she looked at was not. I was told my table would not be distressed. The table however has a large number (15 or so) holes that are not lacquered or sealed at all. I am told that are part of the wood, which I understand, but they should have at least been painted/finished instead of raw wood in holes in a finished table. I am concerned that if just a bit of water/food/play doh/etc gets in there it will never come out and may damage the unsealed table. The sample I saw had not a single hole in it, to suggest that the table I would receive may also have a hole. I have constantly had to chase up the 'designer' to have them continue to follow things up, they simply forget to respond/get busy/etc. For a company seeking to differentiate itself as a luxury brand, they really need to provide the customer service to support this. Seeking help from them, or even an initial consultation, seemed to be more of an inconvenience to the staff than a part of their role. I just really hoped for a better experience. read more

The furniture when it arrived was in perfect condition and exactly what we had ordered. Trudy who arranged the delivery worked with our schedule with no complaints. I purchased a kitchen table and 4 chairs with a designers complete help and assistance in the Dublin store. The store does not have have much on display so I was totally entrusting the designer to help me configure the pieces. The table came then the chairs six months later. Unfortunately, the chairs are so big that they don't push in under the table. Basically the chairs are WAY too big for the table. This is a costly and disappointing result after spending so much time working with a "designer" This is what the designer wrote me in email, "At no time did you mention that you want the chairs to be tucked under the table." ?? Who would NOT want chairs to tuck in under the table. What? Sorry I thought every person on the face of the earth expect that the chairs would be able to push underneath a dining table--- I did not think I had to spell that out. Super disappointed! I actually feel awkward and uncomfortable coming in here. When my little sister was born 18 years ago, my parents bought my brother and myself full bedroom furniture sets from Ethan Allen. It's held up great, and I love the wood, but just recently, one of the knobs broke off at the brass, so I went into the store to see if I could replace just the knob. I've been in here once before with my fiance, and we had probably 3-4 people each come up to us to ask us if we needed anything or wanted help. They each spoke and looked almost exclusively at my fiance without seeming to notice I existed, despite me answering most of the questions. This time, I came by myself. Maybe it was the fact that I was dressed differently than their typical customer, maybe I'm younger than their average funiture-shopper, but whatever the reason may be, no one helped me. I legitimately had to track someone down to ask them about this knob, and even then, there was almost derision in the employee's voice as they helped me. The website states that if any parts are needed, to go into a location, but they just looked at me confused and as though I were crazy. The employee had the audacity to ask me if I had tried the hardware store for the highly-specific knob that I had in my hand (photo attached, for reference). Absolutely appalling! I've never felt so out-of-place before based purely on my appearance. At the end, the employee told me to email the photo and the number of the bedroom set to see if the part could be ordered. That was over a week ago and I haven't heard back yet. I just sent a follow-up email to check on the progress. I would rather buy all my furniture from Ikea than come back to this EA after this whole debacle is over. UPDATE 6/13/19: Got a reply back to my email this morning. We had a great experience at the start and the designer helping us was very knowledgeable and helpful. We ended up purchasing a couch and the delivery came sooner than expected (about 8 weeeks). What was frustrating though was how they have no clue how long delivery might take unless you buy something (and even then it's uncertain). So you just have to buy it and hold onto hope. The other frustration was how quickly the price changed from one month to the next. We haven't even received our couch and the price dropped almost $200. Even though we've only paid the deposit, they were unwilling to match their own price of the couch; poor customer service. We'll enjoy our couch, but we'll remember feeing like we've overpaid. read more

Well, if my recent experience with getting our squeaky swivel glider chair (*under an additional paid for warranty*) is anything to go by, it'll take 10 calls, 7 employees and 4 months. Seriously. For paying such a premium for furniture *and* and even more money for the additional warranty, we were gravely disappointed. The staff there were ostensibly professional every time I called, but the actual follow through was lacking, as evidenced by 10+ separate calls to get this dealt with over 4 months. I wish I had paid attention to the previous one-star reviews. The purchasing process went fine - they got my money. But when the sofa was delivered, half of the pillows were defective at the corners. It then took me over two months to have this corrected. I called, nobody returned my call. Or, I was called by someone who didn't know what my problem was. Or, I had calls with a person who didn't remember what she had said in her previous call. I spoke with 5 or 6 people, each of whom had a different story. I'd let a few days go by, then start again and receive a call from a different person When they finally paid attention, it took only 4 days to correct the problem. But it took over two months to get to the point where a competent person would take charge. And even then, delivery of the repaired pillows was late. I will never shop there again, although I do like the style of their furniture. It's not worth the frustration. read more

We had an Ethan Allen designer come out to our house in hopes of replacing our dining room chairs with some from Ethan Allen. After spending time with her reviewing finish samples, fabrics and dimensions, we purchased 4 chairs. After she measured, the designer said the arm chairs would fit under our table, which was important. . They arrived 2 months later. The finish was simplistically done, with none of the distressing and glazing we'd seen on the finish sample. The 2 arm chairs did NOT fit under our table! The designer had me bring in a chair to the store and subsequently a service person came out. We're still waiting for a response. This has taken months, and, despite numerous phone calls etc, we are still waiting. We ,have heard nothing back about what Ethan Allen will do regarding the arm height and finish. The arm chairs won't fit under the table and the finish was misrepresented. We want some significant compensation for this or to return them and get all our money back! We're not letting this go, and are disgusted with the terrible customer service. read more

Our designer, Brain Combs, was thoughtful, considerate, knowledgable, and full of ideas and suggestions as we picked out our five pieces of furniture, including a leather couch. Scheduling and coordinating were seamless, and delivery was efficient and well-done. Brian followed through with emails and telephone calls to make sure we knew exactly where we were in the construction and delivery process. Although this store is a three-hour one-way drive for us, we would go the extra distance to work with Brian at this store again. Not a single criticsim or complaint. The quality, wide selection of fabrics, and ability to customize our selections truly set them apart from the other stores we visited. In addition, and perhaps most importantly, we had the opportunity to work with a wonderful designer, namely Brian Combs. Brian created a beautiful design plan based on our style, preferences, and need for kid-friendly furniture. My wife and I are quite meticulous (aka, "picky"), and we truly appreciate Brian's attention to detail and abundance of patience. We absolutely love the end result and our furniture looks superb (added bonus - the delivery team was excellent and managed to bring the furniture up 2 flights of stairs without a single scratch). Amazing experience working with Millie at this store. We wandered into the store on a Sunday afternoon (3rd time looking at couches and for some reason the hardest thing to decide on ever) and Millie immediately recognized us from our visit several months prior. She was the greatest, showing us different fabrics, leathers, couches, and end tables. When we got to a log jam in making a selection, Millie offered to come to our house that night after the store closed at 7pm. She spent an hour measuring out our living room and going through options. She then helped us out while she was on vacation, staying in touch over text message. 5 stars for Millie and her service at this store. Can't wait to receive our furniture. read more

This morning I spent 15 minutes in the Corte Madera EA looking for furniture and accessories. There were two employees and one other customer. Despite my obvious interest in certain items--taking photos, measuring, taking pillows to the store window to see the colors in natural light--I was not even greeted by either the woman at the desk or the woman assisting the other customer. A simple "Hello" would have made me feel welcome and given me an opening to talk about what I wanted to buy. There were plenty of opportunities to make a welcoming gesture, but none was forthcoming. I might as well have been a ghost. I left without making a purchase, the ladies lost their sale, and I will not be returning to the store. read more

I have been remodeling and redecorating my home, and have been working without a designer for most of the project. I am familiar with the Ethan Allen name, but had not previously bought anything from them. When I went to another local store that exclusively deals with window coverings, and is a Hunter Douglas dealer, I encountered a problem with scheduling, as they were backed up for over a month! I took a look at the Hunter Douglas website to find an alternate source, and that is how I came to Ethan Allen, and met Millie Adams. She met with me right away, and within 24 hours she had gotten the measurer/installer Greg out to my house - on a Sunday afternoon on his way home from another project. She also made sure that she confirmed each shade with me - fabric and model before we placed the final order. The order came in promptly, and she got me on the installation schedule quickly and held that spot for me. So, from a customer service point of view, my experience was excellent! I ordered Silhouettes, Vignettes and Luminettes for the entire house. Millie came to my house with the installer both times he was there, and she gave me valuable design advice for my office and bedroom. Those two rooms had some items that I was keeping that are rather large, and she had the vision to advise me on the placement of a rather large leather club chair that got relocated from the living room to the office, and the rather large folding treadmill that went back to it's original spot in the office looking out the window over the bay, and suggested I look for a tall narrow mostly backless white bookshelf that can hold all my books and reveal the purple accent wall behind it. The office has always been the most difficult room and it is looking quite nice lately. Now I just need to select a rug for that room . . . read more

Her design aesthetic was perfect. We also did not feel pressure to purchase more than we needed, and she listened to our preferences and concerns. Erika has been an absolute dream to work with. We are rebuilding our home following the Tubbs fire and Erika has been there every step of the way! Initially we just purchased our master bedroom furniture with her assistance. But now that our rebuild is nearly complete, she has designed a fabulous (and functional) great room, kitchen and dining area for us. Not needing the credits, I took the time and attended just to give myself a nice professional perk. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Got over half of my furniture here including sofa, coffee table, dinning table and chairs, cal-King bed, king bed, night stands and many other little home stuff. The staff was very nice and helpful. The designer came out to the house and give us a floor plan before all of this and everything went really well. The only the was the waiting time on all these hand-made furniture was all around 3-months. When they finally arrived we are very satisfied. Overall, 4 stars!! Highly recommended!! read more

Ethan Allen and Design Consultant, Cynthia Brunn Over twenty-five years ago, my husband and I completely refurnished our master bedroom with Ethan Allen furniture pieces and accessories that look as beautiful and are as functional today as when they were placed in our home by an outstanding delivery team. We still receive compliments on our stunning bow-front dressers, ceiling high bookcases, bed-frame and nightstands. Since that first purchase, we have completely redone our dining room and upstairs family-guest room with timeless, multi-functional Ethan Allen furniture. All the while, the quality, assistance, and attention to detail has remained constant. More recently, following a remodel, we turned to Ethan Allen to purchase our Hunter Douglas automatic window blinds for our kitchen, family, dining and living rooms. Our design consultant, Cynthia Brunn, was amazing and beyond helpful, guiding us throughout the entire process. The windows in our home present many challenges because each one is different, three pairs of corner windows abut each other, and our ceiling heights change dramatically over these pairs. Cynthia graciously provided constant and ongoing support throughout the entire process. She never abandoned us and made several extra visits to our home to reposition and work with the Hunter Douglas installers. On one occasion, Cynthia even brought along an Ethan Allen window design expert to make sure everything was perfect AND that we were pleased with the outcome! We are and we love our blinds! So, I do not know even where to start but I will try. I walked into Ethan Allen I believe it was a Sunday, thinking of a new living room. Erika was so kind said hello, I said just browsing, well from there I made an appoinment for her to come to my home to check out the living room project, thinking there wasn't much hope, well let me tell you I have the most incredible living room I could ever wish for. At first it was going to be bits and pieces then it was going to be months down the line before I ordered, and it ended up be everything and months sooner, not because of pressure but I couldn't believe the design that Erika drew I was in love! I went to the store met with her and fell in love with everything! lol Erika was so easy to work with. When it was time for delivery Erika, came to my home to make sure everything was perfect! I highly recommend Erika she is truly amazing with such a gift for design. P.S. one of the things I loved about her is she listened to me on my wants and needs and likes and dislikes! read more

I would like to comment two matters here: 1. In their Corte Madera store, the store manager Shari Watt abuses her authority to refuse to provide service to Ethan Allen's customers who she does not like. 2. Their employee SoYoung Mack is pushy, rude and hostile to Ethan Allen's customers. We feel SoYoung is only interested in closing a deal quickly to get her commission. She seems has much less interests in Customers' satisfaction. When we share a different idea with her regarding the color and style she recommended, she got impatient. She raised her voice and hung up the phone. We called her number of times to request the information of our orders, she ignored our messages and did not call back for days. When we asked the store manager Shari to change a different designer for us. She said" you don't need a designer because it seems you have your own ideas." No matter for the consultation of chairs, art works, Shari refused to assign another designer for us. Now we are considering a lawsuit against Ethan Allen for discrimination. It's so sad. I've bought all my sofas and chairs at Ethan Allen over the last 27 years and until 3 years ago with my last purchase of 2 sofas I was happy with the quality. The quality is not good anymore., The two sofas I bought just 3 years ago look old already and feel old when you sit on them. I called to report this and the main customer service for Ethan Allen had me send pictures. From these pictures they said they looked fine and there was nothing they felt they should do. I compared it to a sofa and chair I have that I bought nearly 10 years ago that still looks and feels great. Ethan Allen furniture is not cheap and I would expect they would last.
