Radislav is a professional and a gentleman - he is also an HONEST LOCKSMITH - which are a RARE BREED !! He really enjoys his job - Does it well and treats his clients warmly and fairly !! For me... he made two copies of my Mul-t-lock key from a Mul-t-lock card I had from when I'd had the lock installed MANY years ago... for $25 each and copied a Medeco key for $12.50 - which are - as far as I'm concerned VERY reasonable rates !! They came to our place fast, but went down hill from there. We wanted a lock replaced. It went from $55 to 175, then shot up to $400. A lock that cost $25 with half an hours worth of labor, cost us $300. Doesn't add up.. If you know what I mean. read more

Very expensive but good service. I live around 2 blocks from them, so when I locked myself out of my apartment, I called them. They came in approximately half hour. The guy was very nice and professional but told me that he needed to replace the lock and it would be $350. For 5 minutes of work and a cheap new lock (I originally thought it was a $40 lock, but Google says the price is more like $12), that just seems very pricey, even for a Saturday 10PM evening visit. Also, he refused to take a credit card, and said that after hours they only take cash, and asked me to go to the ATM to get cash. I got a receipt from him, and as I said, the service was very good, just be warned about needing a lot of cash on hand for evening calls. read more

The service was very responsive and prompt. The prices are extremely high for the work that is done and no quote is given up front so it makes it difficult to weigh your options. I paid $400 for the technician to use a air pump to open my residential door. The base rate was $290 and there were 4 other miscellaneous fees. I will definitely shop around if I am ever in this situation again. read more

I just moved back into my NYC apartment in the West Village and needed to change the locks on the doors. I called a local locksmith first, who was resistant to give me a phone estimate, wanting to come out and give me the estimate, which is a bad sales pitch. Once they are there they pressure you. So I was lucky enough to have seen one of CBS Locksmith's vans on the street. I asked for a card, called and was given an immediate on phone estimate that was about 1/4 of the cost of the other guy. They came by that afternoon and did a great job, even spent extra time to make my old door lock fit into the frame better. The workman was very knowledgeable and friendly. And the price was just what they had quoted on the phone. In fact, as he was writing my bill up he asked if I had been told about the travel charge, which I said I hadn't. He called into the office to ask if he should charge me the extra $35-$50 for that but was told to just let it go. WHO ELSE WOULD DO THAT? I highly recommend these guys. I found myself one Friday afternoon locked out of my apt. Disaster, right? Well, on top of that the only other person who had copies of the house keys was my daughter and she was stuck in the middle of a big exam on LI. I didn't want to stay out of the house, all the while lugging fresh grocery that I got from the WholeFoods (which would end up becoming stale if it weren't refrigerated). I didn't have much choice but to call a locksmith. Good thing I had Reliable-Locksmith-Intercom business card, so I was able to quickly contact them. They came in minutes, opened the doors to my house without causing any damage to the door and replaced the old lock with a new one. Yes, they tryed to sell me a new and more secure lock, but without overdoing it, I guess they have to offer it. After that, they cleaned up after themselves and it looked as though they weren't even there! Two thumbs up for these folks, they are highly professional and fast workers. If you're looking for a dishonest locksmith, this is your place! I got locked out of my apartment and remembered this locksmith was just a block away. So I phoned them up and told them my door was dead-bolted and I didn't have the key to get in. How much would it cost to let me in? Answer: $75. Fine, come on over. 10 minutes later, they show up, he spends 5 minutes drilling out the cylinder and lets me in. He writes up the bill and says that will be $75 plus the $35 emergency service fee. And I said "What?! I just called you and asked you how much it would be and you said $75...with no mention of any additional service fee". Sorry, that is always the case he says. To me, that is not how to run a business. It is outright dishonesty. I shared my thoughts with him and the gentlemen could not have cared any less. Obviously, I will not patronize this business again and I urge you not to as well. There are several other locksmiths on the UES/Yorkville that are hopefully more ethical. read more

My lock started to give me problems so I decided to try to fix it myself. I took it apart but was unable to fix it on my own. I went to a few neighboring locksmith stores and asked if they could fix it for me, but everyone said that they were unable to and that it was a waste of time, and that I should buy a new lock. I did not want to do this as I was on a budget, and felt that it was a rip off. My neighbor suggested that I try Reliable Locksmith. This man was so incredibly helpful and nice. I called him for an estimate and he could tell that I was calling other people as well. He warned me that other people may be cheaper because they charge based on how long it takes and they usually drill your wall, destroy your lock, and that he would not do this. He charged me a $95 with a $35 service charge (flat rate). He came and unlocked my door so quickly and made me feel very comfortable as well. He was so nice and gave great advice. The lock this locksmith installed got wobbly in 4 months. It was difficult to lock/unlock. I phoned, gave my receipt (#17925 from April 2, 2012 for $179.64), and was told I need to pay $75 for the service visit. The warranty for the lock was 90 days(!), and had passed. The locksmith told me that after three months "normal wear and tear" would get my lock wobbly ... maybe I had been slamming my door? So if the lock lasts 90 days before it needs another fix, my first year costs would be $400 for the first, and $300 for the next year and so on. If it lasts 5 months, as in my case, the numbers would be $360 the first, and $180 for the years after. Let me assure you, we close the door gently and live in a doorman building. My neighbors do not try to break in, and I do not kick my front door. The locksmith told me he was offended that I do not want to do business with him. You see, he was proud to have installed hardware that went soft in five months. We agreed to disagree. I would not recommend giving him your business. read more
