Despite our bill going DOWN after turning ON our sprinkler system, they insisted there was a leak. Matthew's Plumbing sent two guys out who listened to the story, checked the meter as I did, checked the crawl space (no leaks) and listened to me complain about the water department. I was expecting to pay $200+, instead they only charged me $75. These people are honest. I was upset enough that I would have paid the $200 or more had they asked me to do so. Upon unscrewing the metal hose, it immediately retracted into the curved faucet -- slid through the tube and caught at the end of the pipe under the sink. I was able to feed it back up through the curved faucet, and could see the end of the metal hose up near the top side but was unable to pinch the edge of the hose and pull it through. I worked at it for a couple of hours -- trying and hoping that I could fix it -- but finally threw in the towel. Professional help was needed. Melvin answered my phone call at 8:30 am while on his way to an already scheduled service call. Hearing that we had guests who had just arrived the night before, he agreed to try and make it by our house that afternoon. Melvin was able to come by that afternoon, reconnect the water line, identify the part number of the faucet head, connect with the company's customer service department to determine the replacement part. Melvin is knowledgeable, patient, fair and kind. He goes the extra mile in providing plumbing service. Unbeatable!

He installed the sink and went on his way. The charges were very reasonable for the work. And that's when I became a total idiot... I noticed cracks in the sink's bowl. I called Jayk's. The person asked for a snapshot of the problem. I sent it and (honestly) said I didn't remember if there were crack that large before. A minute later Jayk's sent me a photo of the pre-work sink. Yep... there were the cracks. I apologized profusely and they were cool about it. Apparently the old ugly faucet was all I could notice. So...yeah...I'm a dummy who has become too used to contractors creating as many problems as they fixed. Not Jayk's though - they're great.

On the Saturday of Easter weekend, the tenant in my rental house told me the water heater had…read moreflooded the basement. I called Cary Plumbing. The guy on the phone told me a new one would cost $1900. I thought that a good bit high but maybe water heater prices had gone up, and it was a holiday weekend, so I said okay. When the technician came he told me it would be the $1900 for the heater itself plus another $400 or so for his labor, and that if I didn't do it that day, who knows when it could be scheduled on a normal workday. By then I was frustrated and didn't want the tenants without hot water for a week or so while I haggled over money. I told him to go ahead. After paying $2600, including tax, I noticed in Lowes that their water heaters still cost $700. They actually haven't gone up much. $700 plus $400 is what this should have cost. I paid roughly $1500 more than I should have. The technician left a small paper indicating I paid in full but it had no information about the water heater make or model and nothing about warranties on the heater itself or installation. I texted their office asking for those things and was ignored. Then I left a phone message and was ignored. Finally I drove to their office and was told my case has not been processed and they'll send me everything when it is. I'm still waiting. I feel this is the worst I've been cheated by any company in decades.
