I'm a big fan of defined fitness in general. I've been to every location. My family recently…read morerelocated to Rio Rancho and this is now our designated location. The good: The gym is jam-packed with equipment for everything you could possibly want to do. The counter staff are friendly, and there's childcare for the kids. Everything is pretty decently maintained. There's a ton of different machines for all types of workouts, a pool, classes -- by this merit alone this gym is better than planet fitness! Haha. The bad: Always packed. Some of the machines are facing each other which is really awkward (having someone stare into your eyes while you're exercising your hip flexors....yeah awkward!!) and as with any gym there are meatheads and bros -- but I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing (I know some people do, though). It's a quality gym, just wish it was bigger like the other locations. Also, price is a factor BUT there are tons of employee discounts offered. Still more affordable than sports and wellness! Haha.

EVERY LOCATION ALWAYS HAS A STEAM ROOM OR SAUNA OUT OF SERVICE! That's almost half of the amenities that is included in the membership. Defined is gradually going downhill and a majority of members are starting to notice. Each member I speak to have the same complaints about EVERY location. It's always an apology from the management team but no correction. Figure it out Defined.

I just recently moved from AZ and had a LA Fitness membership. This location is really close to me…read more Half the main workout area is about 4 rows of cardio machines, maybe like 25% is a functional fitness area. The rest is machines along with a spot for a dumbbell area and there is a row of 4-5 smith machines. There is 1 leg press machine that you can use with free weights. I've never used the locker room, so I can't speak on that. Otherwise this place is fine, it's always been clean and I've only interacted with the front desk when checking in and it's been fine. This facility doesn't have everything I would want in a gym for my personal needs, but it will not stop me from coming here because it is so close and has always been clean. There is plenty of parking, but it could use an update on painting lines. As long as you know what equipment is at whatever workout facility you want to workout at either within PF or outside, it's on the consumer to make that decision of what they want to do. I'm taking down a star because the Internet has been spotty and laggy for me in there, I don't ever use public wifi. This is when I need to check my email or load up an app on my phone, it can take a while for it to load. With that all being said this facility is great.. if you choose to work out here, just be aware of what equipment is available.

I also find a lot of garbage - bottles and towels, like they don't walk around. Well they really don't! Whenever I am there the employees are either talking amongst themselves or on their phones. I'm used to a gym where the staff talked to customers, walked around and offered help. Most of the time the new people don't seem too friendly, like your bothering them. I was super disappointed one night when a new employee apparently went on break and proceeded to join me in the massage chair room.....as she talked on her phone....loudly. Oh well. I will still go there! Hell I might even work there if I had a chance! But I would smile and be more engaging.

No matter the reason, it was very disturbing to see the receptionist talk about the members as if he was in high school and bragging about the girls he had sex with. I don't recommend any person I know to ever go there unless being talked about like a piece of meat is your cup of tea. Then by all means there's a teenage minded douche that wears booty shorts at the same time as a bandana that I'm sure will be there to disrespect you when your not looking. I tried returning when that Jersey Shore wanna be wasn't there(because my company had got a Hotel fairly close to that location)unfortunately it came as no surprise that he had nowhere else to be. As bad luck would have it I showed up before the sun is up, and even after our morning meeting. But everytime the booty short wearing womanizer was there... All in all its unsettling to hear and disturbing to see. Save your money and try a respectable gym.

This review will be broken down into many categories: Cost, Peak hours, cleanliness/condition of…read moreequipment, amenities, locker room/shower area, quality of trainers, cancelling membership, and final thoughts (Jerry Springer style!). After being a member for a few years, cancelling my membership and moving out of state, I've finally decided to review this club and my entire experience with it. Cost: This gym is definitely one of, if not the most expensive gym/club in the city. It was a bit over $100/month for me and my girl. Expensive, but looking back, I believe it was worth it. Why? Continue reading. Peak hours: Coming to the gym after work, weekdays between 5-7pm was manageable. I would usually be able to get what I wanted, when I wanted it. If something was being used, I would do something else, and a few minutes later, come back and it would be available. Defined Fitness was a nightmare. Yeah, Defined cost less, but during peak hours, the lines were 3 deep, and it got to the point that I cancelled my membership (probably in 2013-2014). Cleanliness: I've NEVER seen this gym dirty. A cleaning crew is always cleaning the gym. Any time there's ever been an issue with a machine due to normal wear and tear, it's fixed. I believe the company cares about the quality of the product they sell because of the way they keep the place clean. They've had issues with air conditioning, but that was resolved. I've seen cardio equipment break down, and within a few days it's fixed or replaced. A few years back, they also resurfaced/rematted the gym floor. Locker room/shower area: One thing I liked about the lockers, they have attached keys. Towards the end of my membership, they would actually assign a locker to you, and give you a key in exchange for your id, when you swiped in at the front. This was due to their old system in which people would take advantage of, by keeping the key to a locker, basically claiming that locker as their own. Lol. Perhaps this has changed????? Quality of trainers: Here is where they get a gold star. I've used their personal trainers, trainers that have degrees in kinesiology and sports medicine, and have certifications through the top certification companies. The trainers here know what they're doing. They even work with college students that are pursuing similar degrees, much like doctors working with interns. I thought that was great. When I was with Defined, I looked into the personal trainers at Defined, and some of the trainers at Defined have certifications that cost $200 and the test can be taken as many times as you want until you pass...what a joke!! Amenities: Their pools, one in and one outdoor are awesome. They have a two full sized indoor basketball courts, a hot tub, and sauna. One thing I really like about the club, which actually why I like calling it a club instead of just a gym, is that they have pool movie nights. They'll play a movie on an outdoor screen and you can chill on a float in the pool. They'll have bbq's and other events, and it makes the place more of a community. Cancelling my membership: Right before I moved from ABQ, if I remember correctly, I got the manager's email address, sent her an email saying that I'm cancelling my membership, and I think they took one more month of dues out. That was b.s., which is one reason I took off a star. Other than that, it was an easy cancel. Room for improvement: I think it would be great if they did what other gyms are starting to do, and do some HIIT classes, kind of like Orange Theory. Maybe they do, it's been a couple years since I've been there. Also, one time I took my girl's daughter to the pool, and we got charged $10, that was also a bunch of b.s. Considering how much you pay, if you pay for 2, you should be able to bring a minor to the pool without having to be charged extra. This is another reason why this is 4 of 5 stars. Perhaps the rules have changed. They should also be quicker to act on member suggestions, especially when a lot of members brought up a similar issue. I remember a few years back, they had some really crappy body wash in the shower. I know a lot of people complained, and complained for a long time. They eventually changed it, but it shouldn't have taken so long. Final thoughts: The membership cost changes the club clientele from that of a discount gym. The people that work there have always been wonderful, and have been a pleasure to engage. As I mentioned, I think there are some small things they can do to improve the overall experience. You definitely get what you pay for with this gym/club, and with that being said, the value is there.

If there was ANY other choice for an outside pool on the west side I would cancel my membership. So…read moremany areas for improvement - Cleanliness, staff attention to members behaving badly (pedicures at the pool, boys in the women's locker room), condition and safety of the pool area, high price, management that doesn't seem to care.... One positive is that the classes and teachers are good. Maybe after this transition to new owners is over things will improve....

UFC Gym is my therapist, my stress ball, my escape and the place where I find my focus. It really is that simple: all of that frustration, that powerless hurtle through the everyday, I need an outlet, and if you're feeling me, I can't recommend this place enough. Just drag your ass in the door, the classes are a terrific mix of old fashioned boot camp pain, aerobic exercise, hurt-so-good ab work, and yeah, plenty of punching, kicking, elbows and knees. I don't visit the Rio Rancho location often, but I like the facility, it's much more roomy than my usual spot, and it manages to maintain that familial vibe. If you're more into solo workouts, you'll like the selection of free weights, bikes and other machinery.
