We really wanted to like this restaurant. It came very highly recommended from a friend who had given us a good recommendation in the past. The restaurant is a storefront in a small strip mall in Newbury Park. They have a couple of outdoor tables but we chose to dine indoors. Based on several Yelp reviews, we decided to start by sharing a Caesar salad ($15). Boy was that a disappointment. Terrible presentation. Devoid of taste. We even got extra dressing hoping to pick it up. Nope - no help. Just meh. For my entree I got the Pomodoro E Basilico ($18). A small portion of housemade spaghetti with a red sauce. Again meh - just mediocre at best. My wife got the tagliatelle meatballs ($26). It was OK. The service was with a smile but spotty at best. The ambiance is nothing to write home about. Hearing about their recent Bib Gourmand from Michelin, pushed this to the top of our list, if we were in the area. With their recent accolades, we presumed even on a sunday night we'd need reservations (and were seated promptly) and there were a number of empty tables at 6pm; however they filled up very quickly. For starters a Bib Gourmand "signifies a restaurant with Michelin quality at a more affordable price than some of the other restaurants celebrated by the vaunted listing. The press release for the announcement noted, "Bib Gourmand restaurants offer a meal of good quality at a good value." I heard that meals are generally under $50/pp My Gnocchi Pesto Pomodorini e Burrata had great flavor and texture (perhaps too much sauce... but that just means I left some on the plate. There was a substantial quantity of super sweet tiny cherry tomatoes and burrata. My friend ordered the same dish and took half of hers home. Two others at the table ordered the Tagliatelle al Beef Ragú sauce and both thoroughly enjoyed their meals, the pasta was excellent and sauce had generous portion of meat. The Broccolini had another sizable garnish of sweet baby cherry tomatoes broccolini can be overly chewy, but wasn't, it was tender and I'd order it again. Service was super friendly. We waited longer than I would have expected for our meal, but it wasn't an issue. Weak Link here is the bread, they served 4 haphazardly slices of toasted bread with a bottle of oil and vinegar, not easy to dredge toasted bread thru the plate of oil & vinegar. Two of us were seated and we were waiting for 2 friends. They brought 4 slices of toast, before our guests arrived, so when they got seated the bread was already cold. This is not especially inviting and they should either upgrade the bread or not bother serving it. Or do as most places in LA do and sell the bread as a side dish with rich European style butter. We went to Cedro for my birthday. I had read about it in the LA Times, and while it was a bit of a drive from Northridge, we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is very quaint and decorated nicely, with music playing quietly in the background. Everyone is very welcoming and the service was impeccable. A basket of toasted, warm bread with balsamic vinegar/olive oil and water were served immediately upon being seated. We started with a basket filled with fried calamari, shrimp and the tastiest bell peppers, zucchini, onions, etc. The coating was light, crispy and absolutely scrumptious. There was more than enough for the 3 of us. I had the lamb shank with a rapini risotto. It was tender, fall off the bone delicious. My husband had the Tagliatelle Al Ragu. The pasta was homemade and cooked perfectly and the beef ragu was flavorful and inviting. Our son ordered the Amatriciana. Again the pasta was homemade and Al dente with the Guanciale cooked perfectly in a rich, savory, slightly spicy tomato sauce. We all took home leftovers so we could indulge in dessert and so glad we did. We ordered their homemade Tiramisu. It was so delicate and the whipped filling and coffee soaked lady fingers were mouth-watering and a moment of pure bliss. Thank you Cedro for a lovely and delicious birthday dinner. Cedro is open only for dinner, when we are usually not in Newbury Park. So we made a reservation at 5 when they open. Self parking is easy, since it's in a strip mall, off the 101. It's a good time to go, when the staff can be attentive. Mattia gave us good recommendations, we ordered accordingly, and we were served without too much of a wait. Mattia took great pictures of our anniversary dinner! Burrata is generously served on a variety of dishes. Tagliatelle, which I like, was very good, but Branzino with potatoes was even better! My husband and I stopped in here for dinner and man was it pleasant. We did have to wait a little at the door before we were greeted and then waited a few more to be seated. Service is a little slow, but everyone is so friendly. If you've been to Italy, you know the portions are smaller and this restaurant definitely replicates a traditional Italian restaurant. They had music playing and music was. The perfect volume, not very loud but enough to be heard. We ordered the bruschetta, cacio e Pepe, promodoro e basílico and the tiramisu. Gave this place a try for the first time, and we all enjoyed it. Food ingredient and execution quality was A+++, one of the few handmade pasta places around. Portions on pasta dishes were a little small except for the steak special (which was a large portion), but I think I figured it out: Book a reservation online (they can only make so much pasta per day) Budget large Order the specials Order 1-2 appetizers Get one of their special Italian beers Definitely order the desserts I am not a big dessert guy, but their dessert quality was top notch, a nice touch on top of a great meal. Having been to Italy I can say the pace of the service is pretty similar to what I experienced there, except much more polite. Add that to their high quality ingredients and cooking technique, and it's one of the top Italian places within a 25 mile radius. I would say the only comparable place is Chianti, but that is just a completely different restaurant gameplan so it's kind of unfair to compare the two. Service was great at 5:30 when we started, but got a little sparse and slow as the evening progressed and it got busy; however, the service was always professional and pleasant. Bruschetta was excellent. Bread that was served before dinner needed a separate oil/balsamic dipping dish. Some nice fresh salty butter would be appreciated with the bread as well. Hopefully that'll be added in the future. Table of four of us, three bread plates, after to e bruschetta arrived, still no fourth plate and needed to ask for one. Just need a little more attention to detail from the wait staff. Wish they had a cocktail menu or bar, but understandable with the location size, not really space to put one in. Ordered a bottle of Brunello and it was great with the food. My wife ordered the Cozy Salad of spinach/madarins/beets with a balsamic glaze and it was fantastic. I ordered the Caesar Salad and it was a bit too light on the dressing and the romaine was a bit too pungent and bitter. I should've opted for the Cozy, I tried it and it was delicious. Main course also my wife picked the winner with the lamb shank on risotto. That was the dish I should've picked. I got their burger, which was very nicely presented with potatoes on the side. It tasted very good but got quite soggy with the Caramelized onions and meat juices. Sloppy burgers are delicious and this was great, but only paper napkins. Need some cloth napkins to handle all the juice. Food was great, just a couple of things to improve on. Cloth napkins soon would be great. Food was delicious and filling, with no room left for dessert, so we didn't get a chance to try any Tiramisu. Overall, highly recommend this little hole in the wall Italian eatery. Randomly stumbled across this restaurant without having any idea of its previous ratings or titles given. There is lots of parking which is a plus. I was seated right away for a table for 2 on a busy Saturday night. I do recommend having a reservation and not coming in a large group. The place is small but adds to the experience. Feels like a small hole in the wall you'd find in Italy. The owner was so attentive to everyone and stopped to clean tables and food off the floor. You can tell he put his heart and soul into this place and works hard for it. The other 2 waiters were also attentive and helpful. They were very busy and all 3 workers were running around attending to everyone. Have patience when you dine in. Appetizer comes out fast but the main entrees take time and that's ok. Practice your patience, converse with your party, don't expect fast food preparation time, this is a small business. Previous reviews complained about the bread, not sure why. We received another round and it was fresh rosemary bread with cold creamy butter. As for the ordered food, bruschetta was something new for me, I've never had it like this but it was delicious. Fresh burrata and the pate both complemented eachother well. Ordered the Branzino and carbonara which were both delicious and tasted fresh. Everything was seasoned well and great portions. Lastly, for dessert we got 2 espressos and tiramisu, decadent mixture. I'd go back just for the dessert, alone. Overall 10/10. This is going to be a harsh review because of their listing as a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant. This was definitely a highly anticipated meal that I wanted to enjoy especially since we have so few Michelin guide mentioned places in the area. Service in terms of courtesy and professionalism with the host, waiters and bussers was pleasant. Probably where they shine the most. Though during our dinner, service in terms of getting food out was very slow. We got sat a bit before our 6 pm reservation and it took 2 hours for us to get through dinner for 2 people. There was such a a long pause between service of appetizer to entree I honestly considered stopping by another place to grab a snack while we were seated. It was Friday and the place was packed, so I'm sure they got backed up as another couple got seated way after us and they were in and out before we got to leave because it was less busy when they arrived. The restaurant felt drafty and cold the entire night. Which is surprising because it's such a small space that you'd think just having the presence of so many people would bring some warmth to the room. I'm still wondering on the food if we just ordered the wrong things but with such a selected menu, my expectation is that everything should be good. We were served table bread with olive oil and balsamic. Nothing really stood out about any of it. Which was disappointing. It's October and we went for the peach burrata caprese, mistake #1 since peaches aren't really in season anymore so they just weren't appetizing. The mozzarella though was fresh but the arugula and dressing were just okay. As we patiently waited for our entrees I was hoping for some redemption. We opted to split the branzino and tagliatelle with ragu (2 of my favorite things to eat at most places). The tagliatelle was very bland and too oily and lacked a lot to the point that it was unappetizing, but we powered through it because by this point we're starving. The pasta itself was both under and overcooked. I had bites that were super soggy and the meat and sauce were almost non existent in terms of flavor. Other bites the pasta was undercooked. I have no idea how they accomplished this but it was not great and I really felt like nothing could save this dish save someone redoing it completely. The Branzino we thought was well priced at first given that they give you a whole fish with sides for $32 and we've definitely paid more for smaller portions of Branzino. The fish was also disappointing. Bland, overcooked, the skin was mushy and usually id expect it to be pan fried to a crisp. It was clear someone pan fried this in butter and overcooked it. How it got to our table in that state is a mystery to me. It is served with a cooked lemon but must just be garnish because we got no lemon flavor even though when I tried to squeeze the wedge to get some flavor from this dish it was completely dried out. So who knows what happened to the juice. The potatoes were cooked and some were nice and crispy but mostly we're just bland. Ive on many occasions pan roasted potatoes with little effort that had more flavor and crispyness than these. Ultimately it's confusing why this plating is so brown which doesn't help from an appetizing standpoint. For some reason they tuck the bright green broccolino in between the filet creating an absence of color. Sadly the broccolino itself was the most appetizing thing on the plate. Tender and fresh. Alright so I'm still starving at this point so we give dessert a try and order a lemon panna cotta. We get served a cute Instagram worthy geometric panna cotta that looks like a lemon. And this is the moment where I think, hey this could be good. Now I'm getting why this maybe got a Bib Gourmand rating. I take one bite and I get nothing. Literally no flavor. Just a weird texture. And so my theory is that this is created by mixing panna cotta base with gelatin and then placed into a lemon shaped mold. Idk what happened but I'm not getting sweetness, vanilla, lemon, nothing. Just this weird bite of jello and semi creamy texture. So this was basically strike 3. Why a 3 star despite the completely unappetizing meal? I think there is an appeal here and I'm giving a lot of benefit of the doubt. At the end of the day we ate the food, no one cried, we were checked on a semi-regular basis. Maybe this was just a bad night, maybe we ordered the wrong stuff. Who knows. Do I think this was worth the $$$? Absolutely not, and there are other very good competitors in the area. I can't yet dissuade others from trying it themselves, I just wouldn't order anything I ordered. They are all skippable. read more

I suppose the place was fine, but nothing I would write home about. Granted, I was limited on the food I could enjoy here but even my family that could enjoy the whole menu was pretty disappointed in the place. Nothing in particular was BAD (besides the pesto pasta; apparently tasted "off") but it was overpriced for what it was. The bruschetta was $15 for three pieces of it (larger pieces but still). The best thing according to my family was the Truffle Burger, which is funny considering it's an Italian restaurant. Was it nice to try? Sure. Will I ever go back? Probably not (and my family agrees). I will still give the place 3 stars because again, most everything did taste pretty decent. Also note: They only have canned soda, so no free refills, which is a big negative. But I suppose very European of the place. read more

The best, most authentic Italian meal I've had in the area! We ordered a couple of pastas - cacio e peppe, feel puglia and paccheri with lamb ragu. All were DELICIOUS and great portions! The lamb ragu was extremely flavorful and tender, and the paccheri was cooked perfectly al dente. The caccio e peppe was smooth and creamy and spicy from the pepper, and the pasta tasted freshly made! The feel puglia was fresh, unique and the pesto was extremely flavorful and zesty! The desserts set the meal over the edge! This was my first time having pistachio cheesecake! It had a delicious flavor and a creamy, smooth texture. I've never had anything like this and was unsure if I'd like it, but I couldn't stop eating it! Next was the fig, walnut and mascarpone tart. Another unique treat that i found myself absolutely loving! The textures of the creamy mascarpone with the crunchy nuts and chewy figs were Devine! Definitely a cute date spot, and there was a huge family party right next to me having a blast. I also loved the Italian waitstaff - really reassured me that the dishes were authentic and made the experience more exciting! Pretty good food, but slow service and uncomfortable chairs left an unfortunate impression. We dined at Cedro on a Monday with reservations. It's worth noting that their website says they are closed on Mondays but turns out that is not the case. We arrived on time and were promptly seated. There was only a single waiter for the restaurant and he did an okay job of checking in on us but there would be 10-15 minute stretches where that didn't happen. Our entire meal for 5 people took 2.5 hours and we were probably between 20-45 minutes between courses. We sat inside on the older style wood chairs and my entire party thought they were uncomfortable especially for a 2.5 hour duration. We did notice a few tables with banquet style paddes chairs which I would have killed for instead. All things considered, food was tasty the other issues overshadowed it. I had read that Cedro was on the Michelin guide so Ive been meaning to try it. I was able to make a same day reservation for a Friday night at 7pm. We arrived promptly and was seated at a small table that was really meant for 2 people but it worked and I was happy I didn't have to wait. Restaurant itself is pretty small but I was surprised by the amount of outdoor seating--something I may request next time on a nice day. Our host was friendly and explained the specials for the day. We ordered everything to share and I would recommend doing so. For appetizers, we really enjoyed the mussels and the rustica salad. We were in the mood pasta so that's what we all ordered to share for our entrees. The sauce in the scoglio had so much flavor. The seafood was good. And the pasta was almost at the al dente texture that I was looking for. For dessert, we shared the coffee mousse and tiramisu. The tiramisu is huge. We really didn't have to order the mousse but it was good. We didn't drink this time around but did see they have wine offerings and people bringing in their own bottles. Plenty of parking. Located in a small business center setting out in a quiet part of Newbury Park, Seemly hidden away from any major social hub in the area, We found this place online and thought to try some new Italian food. The appetizers were all solid. All pasta dishes ordered were absolutely fantastic in taste and in portion size. We all,ordered a pesto pasta, a tagliatelle ragu pasta and a carbonara that I thought was one of the best ones I have ordered here in the states. and I know pasta as I go quite frankly week after week to new Italian restaurants. The pasta noodles here tasted fresh and the sauces seemed like they were created in Italy. Just great food that can't be ignored even for its remote casual small setting. The "wine list" is a piece of cardboard with prices and "no name" wines. i'm glad we brought our own bottle and paid the $20 corkage. The tiramisu was delicious $11. The atmosphere is nonexistent.. the basket of bread was the worst bread I've ever been served at a restaurant, tasted like two week old wonder bread that had been sitting out on the counter, like sawdust. My wife and I came here on a Friday night in July with a reservation for 6:30. The restaurant wasn't that busy and the reservation was not needed but did start to fill up when we were leaving around 7:30. As an appetizer, we got complimentary bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I thought it was very strange that the bread was toasted and not fresh. The toasted bread was difficult to dip in the olive oil and balsamic. I order the seafood pasta and my wife order the ragu. The seafood and sauce were good didn't stand out. The noodles in the seafood pasta were too Al dente for me and should have been cooked longer. In my opinion, they were nearly not crunchy and needed a few more minutes. My wife's ragu was always good but also not very memorable. Overall, I'm not sure I would come back here. The prices were a little high for the smaller portions and underwhelming taste. read more

This place is a gem in the extreme suburbs. The TO area has its share of pretentious Italian places in beautiful spaces, but this is not that. This is a perfect little Italian slow food place for those who love the dolce vita. The service is perfect, and the owner and host are charming. The food is not fast, but that's the point, and they never kick you out. We had the Buratta nell orto and the clam appetizer. They were both good, but the veggies with the buratta were unusual and delicious. My group had the pasta carbonara, with a lovely al dente pasta and guancale, the rissto with short rib and truffle, and the branzino. All the pasta portions were perfectly sized to allow you to share an entre. The truffle with the risotto was special and spectacular. We finished with a light, delicious tiramisu. Go here, don't rush. And enjoy. And byob - they have a corkage fee but you'll save lots. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for date night last weekend. We had a 7:30 PM reservation and had to wait for a few minutes for a table to clear off. The owner was apologetic and seemed to handle everything well despite seeming like he was juggling a lot. I don't imagine it's easy! I was really impressed with the caesar salad. It has a fantastic lemon caesar dressing which I've never had before. My only complaint is that I wish I had way more of it! We both ordered Tagliatelle al Ragú. It wasn't the most amazing dish I've ever had, but we both finished our plates and it was good. I don't remember the name of dessert we had, but we enjoyed that as well. It's not too expensive to laminate one. The service is friendly. They are definitely very busy and highly recommend a reservation. Back again for round two. My Goddess brought me in for my birthday. Everything was FANTASTIC. I can't believe we have this gem of a restaurant in Newbury Park. This is the best food offered in Newbury period. Expect longer wait times. Everything is homemade. If you have never made homemade pasta or properly braised short ribs please understand these things take time. Here is a list of pointers to assist you: Bring a warm hoodie or light jacket, its a tiny restaurant that can easily get stuffy so they keep the door open making it drafty Beer and wine only Plan ahead to be there for at least 1 hour and probably 2 if its busy on a Friday or Saturday night Keep an open mind and enjoy your time with your loved one, I know this restaurant is in the USA where we all count our next internet experience in nano seconds. If you are in a hurry this is not the place for you. The restaurant has a very European flavour to it and is in fact owned by Europeans. Respect their food culture, take your time, sip some wine and feel grateful you are imbibing on a culinary treat not found many places outside Italy. read more

In the former Stella's location in Newbury Park...Cedro's is a small Italian spot reminiscent of locations in parts of Italy. Patience is a key (and something California diners don't have much of) as everything is prepared À la Minute. Sauces were flavorful - and plentiful. I found the salads a bit over dressed - but that's my personal preference. Pasta was cooked aldente and came out hot! Only issue at our table was our waiter ordered us a pesto salmon, rather than the Salmon Alla Luciana that was originally requested - the staff quickly rectified the issue - leaving the pesto dish on the table and quickly getting out the proper dish. I really wanted to like this place and heard great things about it, but we didn't have the best experience here. The bread service was the star of the show oddly enough. My fiance ordered the Chicken Milanese and I ordered the braised short ribs. Her portion was huge, but it lacked seasoning big time. Pretty much flavorless unfortunately. My ribs had an okay flavor but it was cooked so badly. Braised ribs should melt in your mouth, but mine was crunchy and hard. The broccolini was a little undercooked also. We also ordered a plate of pasta since pasta doesn't actually come with your meal. We got the Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe pasta. Again, flavorless and just wasn't tasty. The wine selection was nice and the ambiance was inviting even though this place is extremely small. Speaking of small, the tables are very tiny, we were constantly trying to reposition items on the table to make things fit. Service was great and friendly, this is the only reason I'm giving 3 stars at this point. I hate writing reviews like this, but I have to be honest to the public.
