Our favorite place of 25 years, Sesame Inn, has now been closed for several months. We are on the hunt for a carry out Chinese food replacement! Really would give this place a 3.5 Star if possible. The War Wonton Soup was packed with fresh vegetables, good quality white meat chicken, shrimp and lean pork, BUT tasteless. Like the broth was just water, no seasonings, just no zing. We bought 2 containers. Second container we reheated the next night, added chicken broth, garlic and onion powder. Better. The Moo Goo Gai Pan was a 4.5 Star, hence the overall 4 Star Rating! OK this was a hit, fresh vegetables, nice tender chicken, right seasoning! We will order again. The place is clean, a little banged up, but will try again, but skipping the soup. Red Wok in Newbury Park came highly recommended by folks on Nextdoor, so I finally stopped in. It's a quaint little spot with both indoor and outdoor seating. The inside is adequately lit, simply decorated, and had some background music playing--nothing distracting, though not particularly atmospheric. I was served immediately. I ordered the curry chicken, which arrived piping hot and came with a complimentary half‑pint of white rice. I appreciate this, since many places now charge extra for rice. The rice itself was cooked perfectly, was aromatic, flavorful, and fluffy. The curry sauce was tasty, the vegetables were fresh and crisp, and the "extra spicy" request was taken seriously. My only disappointment was the addition of pineapple. I enjoy pineapple, just not in my curry chicken. The dish's ingredients were not listed on the menu. Overall, it was very good, and I'll be returning to try their Wonton Soup and Shrimp in Lobster Sauce next time. read more

We needed to quickly, pickup dinner on the way home and decided to give Red Wok a try. I ordered Chicken and vegetables and a beef entree. It was ready very quickly and the worker was very friendly. Food is very good but I always ask to use less soy sauce, all their plates add extra soy sauce which makes their common plates look much darker in color. If you ask for house chow mien or fried rice just ask for less soy sauce and the noodles will be much lighter in color, I prefer regular Chinese food. They advised their food is from southern Taiwan where they use extra soy sauce on their plates, too much sodium for me but food is delicious. read more

Found a hidden gem, friendly service, delicious sizzling rice soup with chicken, pork and shrimp which feed 2. We also tried the cashew chicken and brought the good memories of the old school flavors we grew up on. We moved to Central Coast Ca almost 2 years ago. We love the area! There is one thing missing though. No good Chinese restaurants! Enough of that. When we lived in Newbury Park we had a favorite, go to restaurant that we always went to when someone in our family was sick. "Sick" could mean a cold or flu , but it could also mean I had a bad headache and called in sick for cooking dinner. No matter what, my son was always first in line requesting Red Wok? With a hopeful expression. Well, with our move and my son moving out those days were behind us... UNTIL! Drum roll please! I had an epiphany! When I need to come to Thousand Oaks, why not order what we love, put it in an insulated bag that we already have, and bring it home! Instant excellent food! So we tried it and it worked! Now having to drive to Thousand Oaks won't bee so bad. As for the food you can get here, everything is made fresh. I loved the wor wonton soup! House special noodles, kung pow chicken, broccoli and beef, shrimp with lobster sauce, the list goes on and on. You can eat there, it's a simple place, not fancy, or take it to go. Our favorite pho place was closed today so we wanted to try something new and loved it here. The service was awesome and the food was delicious. I have seen this place for decades and some reason went next door to the Alamo but not there. I gave it a shot when I wanted shrimp fried rice and my usual go to place was closed. A A friend and I went to try it out, both of us were virgins. We ordered the eggplant with tofu, shrimp fried rice, pork egg foo young, chicken with vegetables, beef with snow peas, and chicken dumplings. The server explained that the dumplings are made in house, along with their egg rolls. Big difference from those restaurants that uses factory created. Wow they were huge, the filling was delicious and the texture of the dumping was fresh. I love dim sum, and this place questioned the quality of those places I was going too. Will be asking if things are made in house next time I go elsewhere. Ordering to delivery of the food took some time, but they cooked to order, which I appreciate. Great place for Chinese. I've gone a few times over the years . Service is fast and they have great options. I highly recommend getting their lunch specials or dinner combos. It's a generous amount of food for the price and easily shareable to get a taste of different dishes on their menu. We ordered take out and tried the orange chicken, house chow mein, house fried rice and beef with broccoli and everything was just kinda bland and lacking flavor. They have a fish filet with black bean sauce that is out of this world! This has been my favorite Chinese take out/dine local restaurant for many, MANY, moons. The family who owns this little gem is lovely, and their food is consistently delicious. I love their steamed dumplings, BBQ PORK soft noodles, the BBQ pork steamed buns are almost like dessert, they are so good. And the pineapple fried rice is bomb, too! We Still like the large portions of food in the lunch specials menu. Just one comment: there is a loud mechanical sound in the restaurant, seems to be coming from ceiling or roof area. Great little restaurant tucked away in Newbury Park. I've driven by it enough times that I knew I wanted to get some take out to see how the food was. Called in an order today for lunch and they were quick! The guy who took my phone order was very nice and let me know that the food would be ready in about 15 minutes. I zipped over there and only had to wait a couple of minutes before it was ready. The lady who rung up my order was also lovely. Great customer service here. The restaurant is small but I liked that they had a couple of outdoor seats and also there is plenty of parking. Clean inside and met a friendly customer too. The vibes are good here, as we say! Pricing was average for a la carte items. But great portions and appreciate that everything was cooked fresh to order. Even by the time I got the food home it was nice and hot. A great spot for to go orders. We had a wonderful dinner at Red Wok. They have the best wonton soup I have ever tasted. It was flavorful and was filled with extra vegetables, chunks of meat , an of course, great won tons. My friend recommended the sautéed green beans. They were amazing and covered with little slivers of garlic and onion for extra flavor. Finally, we enjoyed the three ingredient tastes specialty dish. I got the fish with black bean sauce and I couldn't really tell what meat I was eating with huge chunks of green pepper and onions. It felt like old leftovers. I've been coming here since I was a kid, and even as an adult, it feels like treat! The two ladies who are always there are very welcoming and always have a smile on their face. Don't let the inside deter you from trying it out. It's a medium sized location with a very calm demeanor. We love the Chicken Chowmein and the Kung-Pao chicken. This little strip mall Chinese place surprised us! The portions are big enough for two - the moo sho was five full pancakes! The pan fried dumplings were twice the size of normal dumplings.
