The Food 5/5 As someone who follows a gluten-free diet, I had always avoided pasta restaurants, assuming options would be limited. I was thrilled to find an excellent gluten-free menu! I ordered the Salmon with Asparagus Pesto and a side salad. Both were absolutely delicious, the salad dressing is clearly homemade and very flavorful. My husband loved his Carbonara with Angel Hair, and our friends both enjoyed the Salmon Salad with asparagus and artichoke. We shared the Crème Brûlée to finish the night, and it was exceptional. The only downside was the service. Our waiter seemed a bit impatient from the start. Once our entrees were served, we didn't see him again until the very end of the meal. We all wanted a second glass of wine, but were never offered one, and our water glasses remained empty the entire time. It was a slow night, so the lack of attention was a bit surprising. The kitchen is doing everything right! The food is high-quality and safe for those with dietary restrictions. Absolutely terrible experience and some of the worst customer service I have ever encountered. We were planning my grandmother's 100th birthday celebration with approximately 50 guests. We met with Maria multiple times, visited the restaurant on three separate occasions, and were told we had a private patio room reserved for the event. Based on those assurances, our family moved forward with planning a once-in-a-lifetime celebration. Then, only a month before the event, we were suddenly told they could no longer accommodate us because it was a "busy hour." How do you tell a family they have a private space reserved for a 100th birthday, allow them to spend months planning around it, and then pull the rug out from under them at the last minute? This wasn't a casual dinner reservation--it was a milestone celebration that can never be recreated. What makes this even more disappointing is that my grandmother immigrated from Italy at 13 years old and specifically wanted to celebrate her 100th birthday here. That opportunity has now been taken away because management apparently decided that maximizing revenue during a busy time was more important than honoring a commitment they had already made. The ownership and management should be embarrassed by how this was handled. If they were unable or unwilling to host the event, they should have been honest from the beginning instead of leading us on for months. Their lack of professionalism, communication, and basic respect for customers turned what should have been a joyful family celebration into a stressful scramble to find another venue. If you're considering this restaurant for an important event, be aware that even after multiple meetings and what you believe is a confirmed arrangement, they may decide to cancel when it becomes more convenient for them. We had the most wonderful dining experience at Viva La Pasta and I truly can't say enough good things about it. We came as a family of five and each ordered something different, which turned out to be the best decision because everything was absolutely delicious. The portions are incredibly generous -- and every entrée comes with a choice of soup or salad plus a side of pasta or vegetables. You definitely leave happy and satisfied! I ordered the Pollo Limone with angel hair pasta and it was perfection -- flavorful, tender, and beautifully balanced. I also tasted the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo (rich and creamy without being too heavy) and the salmon with angel hair in a creamy white sauce -- both were outstanding. Every single dish at the table was a hit. They start you off with warm bread (two different kinds!) that was soft, fresh, and so flavorful. So we went to Viva La Pasta yesterday April 21 2026 and both my wife and I ordered Eggplant Parmesan. As you can tell it looks like Chicken finger's. This dish was tasteless, dry and not what we expected. We've had this dish on other occasions and it was completely different. By far the worst restaurant experience ever. Stay away from this place. We were sat at 6. 6:45 I got up from the table and told the owner we have not been helped. He yelled at one of the employees and said someone would be right over. 7:00 someone came to the table and took our drink and food order. 7:15 drinks come, in phases and incomplete (was only soda and ice tea). Nobody came for refills so I walked up to the front counter to get refills. The owner yelled at some of the employees. I stood in the front waiting 2 minutes to have a diet coke and ice tea refilled. Food came at 8, an hour after we ordered, and it was cold and dry. Sauce was good, but food was cold. Probably sat in the window 15 minutes before they brought it out. We finally got out of there at 9 pm. It took that long to get the check and for them to run my card. Nobody came to check on us for anything. They spilled water on the table multiple times and did not clean it. They brought cups of soup without plates under them and spilled the soup on the table. They made no attempt to clean it up and never brought us napkins to clean it ourselves. The soup was barely warm as well. Oh, and the servers carried the soup cups out in their hands, with their fingers all over the top of the cups. Management is horrible and they obviously have not trained their staff. There was a party of 10 that sat next to us. They arrived 30 minutes after we did and were done with dinner and deserts before we even got our food. DO NOT EAT HERE UNLESS YOU LIKE TO BE IGNORED BY WAIT STAFF AND WANT COLD, DRY FOOD. read more

Parking is free, if not exactly plentiful near the doors, since it's tucked into an internal spot near Subway. There are more spots as you move over to the CVS side of the center. They have a comfortably sized indoor dining room, and a very generous outdoor garden patio space. It's all more spacious inside than you might guess when viewing the frontage. The menu is very user friendly from the standpoint of pleasing pasta lovers. They have many sauces from which to choose - select the one that appeals to you, then you can pick on which type of pasta you want it served. Marinara or Bolognese sauces are very hearty, and taste like they've been simmering for a while, providing a rich body. They do some lighter options like olive oil and basil with fresh tomatoes. Cream-based sauces also make an appearance on the menu. They also have baked favorites like lasagna, plus many meat options like chicken marsala. Warm fresh bread is part of the meal experience. Most dishes also come with either soup or salad included. Taking all that into account, their prices and food quality are a good value. The quantity provided is also on the generous side. We attended a birthday luncheon for two friends recently and my pasta order was enough for the meal on the day, plus two follow up meals at home! I'd ordered the red sauce with salsiccia (sweet Italian sausage) and a mushrooms over bowtie pasta. Very yummy, and very filling. I will definitely try a lighter sauce next time to see how they manage that kind of fresh take on Italian cuisine. Our group of eight received great service. Attentive, patient, and accurate. That added to our collective celebration. There were a couple of minor let downs - the lemon cake dessert was extremely light in texture, so a smallish portion didn't go far when split with my Dear Hubby. It would have been the right size for a heavier style cake, but I felt like it disappeared in only a few bites each and thus wasn't that satisfying as a sweet finish to a heavy meal. The dining room was lit with miniature clear lights, which is always festive. The string up high above our end of the table was not lit though, which took away from the general ambiance of that section of the room. We also had to ask for the music volume to be lowered a bit, as it was so loud that it was interfering with conversation. The restaurant did comply with that request. Overall, it's become a pleasant place for our friend group to gather and enjoy each other's company. I ordered this place first on DoorDash. After being presently surprised with the high-quality Alfredo I went there with my friend. It was a very traditional, simple mom and pop Italian set up. Most of the clientele are 80+ that live in the affluent Simi Valley country club district. My friend did not care for his chicken Parmesan, but I came back later on my own because the Alfredo is that good. The service is always nice and I even ironically had the chance to meet the two owners which are a lovely couple who asked how everything was. Overall, you can get out of there for $30 with an alcoholic beverage and an entrée. The bread that they give you is delicious and there's not too much more to say except the best Alfredo I've had in a long time. The cow chowder soup was good. My favorite so far has been the ravioli in Alfredo. The stuffed shells were good but they are with chicken instead of beef so taste a little different to me. read more

Fairly regular customer, that went for their Thanksgiving buffet ($29.99). Place was busy for the holiday. The spread was a mixed bag -- carving station had turkey and ham. The turkey was great! White meat was juicy and flavorful, and the chef carved nice, thick pieces. Ham was average. The also had leg of lamb, as well, but it was already sliced, and covered with some gravy in a heated pan. The lamb should've never been served pre-carved, and especially not as deli-thin as they made it. It disastrously dried out the lamb. Even with the smattering of gravy they put over the sliced pieces, the lamb had a Jerky-like texture. Sad, because that was what our party of 3 had come for, mainly. The dressing was decent, the mashed potatoes could barely even be called "mashed", there were so many lumps it them. However, the turkey gravy was surprisingly decent. A decent desert spread, with pumpkin pie, pecan pie, creme brule, and even baklava (nice touch, but a bit too heavy on the spices). The one major gripe I have though, is with the service. Kudos to the older server with the glasses, he was outstanding! (I cannot remember his name, but he's been there a long time). Unfortunately, he was overburdened, due to his incompetent, young coworkers. A couple of college-aged lads that were stapled to each other's hips, gossiping, and leaned up against the wall at times. I witnessed the older server chastise one of the younger ones on a couple different occasions, and for good reason (one being when the younger lad completely forgot out drinks at first). For a buffet event, I'd seen the younger servers bypassing many tables of empty plates, while the older server and busser were constantly cleaning up after patrons. Unfortunately, the manager (owner?) appeared almost disinterested in even being there, especially since when we showed up and told her we had a reservation, basically appeared with a scowl. (Also, whomever took our reservation, didn't even have us written down -- luckily there was still a table for us). All In all, the meal was average, the service was good, albeit a few folks there could use some training, or discipline, for how they were hanging their coworkers out to dry, and ambiance seemed festive enough to pass for adequate. "Viva La Pasta" Located in the heart of the Woodranch neighborhood in Simi Valley is a popular destination for pasta enthusiasts. We also had the Alla Romagnola, pasta topped with chicken breast, Italian sausage, and fresh mushrooms in a marinara sauce, #10. My youngest son had the #3 item, Alfredo chicken and cheese ravioli with Parmesan cheese cream, and a touch of garlic. My oldest son had the #21 item, pasta con salsa di carne, pasta with ground top sirloin with fresh tomato sauce and we also had the #106 sweet and spicy chicken sausage pizza. All of our plates had a nice presentation but lacked the burst of flavors I had hoped for. The pasta dish I ordered, was cooked al dente, but the sauce felt a bit underseasoned and didn't have the rich creaminess I typically associate with this dish. Left me disappointed. Similarly, the pizza I tried, topped with fresh ingredients, had a good texture and taste, but an oily crust, and the overall flavor didn't leave a lasting impression. It seemed like the dishes were prepared with care, but they fell way short of delivering the memorable taste experience I was expecting. In addition, despite the attentive efforts and friendly service provided by the staff our table was unstable and the problem was not fixed. Our table in the outdoor section had a slight bad wobble due to uneven ground. Despite their best efforts to stabilize it, the table frequently presented a major inconvenience to our dining experience. In conclusion, Viva La Pasta has an extensive and impressive menu that covers a wide range of Italian dishes. However, the taste of the food itself was only adequate, lacking the exceptional flavors that would make it truly stand out. If you're looking for a place with a diverse menu and just adequate taste, this restaurant might fit the bill. We held a 50th anniversary party for 76 guests at Viva la Pasta last Sunday afternoon. We were delighted every step of the way. We sat down with owners Tino and Maria about 9 months in advance to explore our options and reserve the date for the outdoor covered patio. We agreed on a fixed price per person and determined that we'd bring our own wine and pay a small corkage fee. We kept in touch to hold the date, and met again about 6 weeks before it to decide on 4 entree choices (meat lasagna, chicken picatta, 5-herb salmon, and pasta primavera) and 2 dessert options (tiramisu and cannoli). Tufi called me a couple weeks before to confirm the menu and arrangements. The morning of the party, Tufi and the staff helped us set up. The atmosphere was perfect-- friendly and casual, with a mix of large and small tables. The setting is beautiful, with a garden backdrop and small trees in the patio. Our guests raved about the quality and quantity of the food and service. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. (And it is for the most part quite clean and consistently good) But a full percentage tip, in advance for takeout before you even know how your food is, and if it is all there, is absolutely absurd. And you won't / don't know how your food is until you are home with it. There is a sort of pressure to leave a tip as well because there are always 3-5 people milling around the transaction corral who observe all that goes by.
