Visited the restaurant yesterday for the first time, and I'm sad I hadn't discovered this place sooner. Anytime I try a new restaurant, I pay attention if other customers are there. There was a good size crowd there already so that is always a good sign that people enjoy the food. There was plenty of parking and it's located close to the mall. We actually ended up staying later, because to our surprise, they had Karaoke and a magician that night. The atmosphere was fun and all the staff were attentive. In terms of food, we ordered a pepperoni pizza and chicken Parmesan. The portions were large. My daughter asked the server how big the small pizza was and it was much larger than what she described. Most pizza places their definition of small is actually a "mini personal" size but here the small size was actually enough for 2 or would even make a great appetizer. The chicken was moist and not overcooked. And the portion of the chicken was generous. I also had a margarita. It was so good I forgot to take a photo of it. I've been coming to The Original Pizza Cookery for well over 30 years, going back to the sawdust on the floor when they were on Topanga. We've been coming here since they moved to TO, and this was the first time with the new ownership, but sadly this was our last. We looked online and noticed that they now cut the pizza the way we all know but we could ask it to be cut the original way, and we would need to ask for the original dough which we did when we called. I've only order our pizza's from them with sausage and mushrooms, and when we got the pizza home, it was like we went to the wrong location as this pizza was nowhere near what we have come to expect. The pizza was cut in triangles and not the squares, they have not changed the sausage and mushrooms and the cheese was definitely not the same. The flavor of the dough seemed different also, and the entire pizza did not taste or come was we have come to expect. Very sad, and I hope the new owners take note, but we're out! read more

So disappointed!!! We have been wanting to try this place for quite sometime. I'm not sure where the good reviews came from. This was my first time calling business and first time we picked up to go order. I did an online order but called restaurant to make sure they got it because I hadn't received an email. I was put on hold 3 times for over 4 mins each time and had to call back twice. My husband went to pick up order and waited for 10 mins without anyone in restaurant acknowledging him. I ordered a vegan pizza sandwich (because their vegan items have had nice reviews) and the cheese was not melted at all. I also asked for extra sauce and did not get that. My husband's meatball sandwich did not come with the right bread. I had to put my food in the oven and still only took 2 bites due to the taste.. there was none. I thought about calling to speak to a manager or owner about this but do not want to have to call this place again and have to wait to talk to someone again!! read more

Definitely a pizza lover here. Unfortunately, my wings have been clipped as I can't enjoy dairy cheese any more. Thankfully, Pizza Cookery has the option of vegan cheese (from Follow Your Heart), which got the job done for me! Dear Hubby and I shared a medium pizza, and found it quite generous. We agreed that we could have shared the small size and still taken a couple of slices home for leftovers. Being a little bit picky here, but I enjoyed the crust. The pizza sauce was too close to tomato paste out of a can. I would prefer it to be a little lighter in texture, and have some Italian seasonings in it. If there are any now, they were added with too light a hand for my preference. Am also a fan of flavorful (not spicy) Italian sausage. The quantity provided was very generous, but it was missing the taste kick of fennel seeds / oregano. Just a suggestion to amp up the flavor a bit. Can't go wrong with added mushrooms, and olives. I should have added some onions, too. We had some fresh tomatoes put on, but they weren't at the peak of flavor yet. I still had a wonderful experience tasting fresh pizza again with gooey melted cheese. It's been a long while since the last time I found a good option for the vegan cheese topping. The ambiance was pleasant. There was a retro feel like a nod to the older Pizza Cookery locations in the Valley. The style of this Thousand Oaks restaurant is less kitschy and modern, but with a homey, comfortable vibe. When the weather warms up, there is a generously sized patio for outside dining. Great night of fun, food and karaoke! First time having dinner with friends at Pizza Cookery, we wanted to try something new nearby and karaoke night looked like fun, and it really was! As a group of 8 I thought it might be difficult, but the staff was great and we had a blast. We ordered so many hits. Starting with the cheesy rolls, that are legendary for a reason, followed by a massive Caesar salad, zucchini sticks and some fries. Then we moved into pepperoni pizza and a gluten free Hawaiian, which even as someone who doesn't need a specialty crust, I really loved it. Also, the chicken parmesan and chicken parm sandwich were crazy portions, and the stuffed shells and eggplant parmesan were really good too. For cocktails we're nice, we got Hugo spritz, couple margaritas, wine and beer. Nice sized pours and quality cocktails without mixers and junk, fresh fruit and juices, which is a major bonus for me. I came back and brought along some family members to enjoy a nice dinner (this was their first time). My second time dining here was even better!!! Yes, the garlic cheese rolls were still AMAZING, and the Cookery Works Pizza I think is my favorite! If you love Antipasto Salad, you will definitely love theirs. If you come on a Friday or Saturday evening, they have entertainment and we had the pleasure of listening to Jerry Breiner, who gave an energetic and upbeat performance. There was a little mistake with the way the pizza was cut, but it truly wasn't a big deal and it was still delicious! I used to go to this business back when they were on Topanga Boulevard in Woodland Hills. They used to have excellent food and service. I stopped in tonight at the location on Thousand Oaks Blvd. at the best Western hotel. All I wanted was a half a dozen rolls and all I got was a pile of soggy dough puddle in grease. There's no way you could go home and share this. There's no way anybody could eat it.. The guy that waited on me I don't know his name, but I believe I was overcharged for it as well. I've been going to The Pizza Cookery for a long time, and I was honestly a little nervous when I heard about the new ownership -- but I'm really glad I gave them a chance. The food is still just as good as ever, and the new owners are genuinely kind and welcoming. I ended up chatting with the owner and found out her family has run the Pizza Cookery in Granada Hills for about 30 years, which made me feel a lot better knowing it's still staying in a family that really cares. They have made a few changes, but nothing that takes away from the experience -- if anything, the updates actually seem positive. Prices even went down a bit, which was a nice surprise. They're also active with community fundraisers, which I really respect. One thing I was really surprised by is that they're now serving breakfast in the mornings and it's actually really good. They've also started offering brunch on some Sundays, which is such a nice addition (especially the bottomless mimosa If you're hesitant because of the ownership change, just give it a try. This fettuccine Alfredo tasted a little more authentic than typical fettuccine Alfredo from Olive Garden/cheesecake factory/etc. The portions were big so I took some home since I filled up on the mozzarella cheese fries at the beginning. Our server was good, she did seem a little unenthusiastic but our drinks/apps/food all came out very quickly so that made up for it. We sat at a booth. This was one of the best experiences I have had at a pizza cookery. (Not that it's not great every time at other locations) but everyone was so amazing, our server Brenden was on top of it the entire time and the food was delicious. Jeff was funny and sweet and Bernadette was so nice, she made me and my mom feel like family and made our birthday weekend 10x better. The stuffed shells, rolls and salad were so good, I saved the rest and I actually couldn't wait to eat my leftover later that day. 10/10 recommend this place, not only is the food perfect but the service and people make the experience so much better. My husband picked this place as we are avid happy hour explorers. Currently HH is 25% off EVERYTHING! We tried the cauliflower soup, the meatballs with cheese, a house salad with balsamic and ranch, and spaghetti with Alfredo and shrimp. And don't forget about their bread! Everything was a 10. We seriously loved the service and the atmosphere. Jason made me the most fantastic cucumber martini (I love ordering those but it's hard to find a bartender that can pull it off). We haven't been to this restaurant in quite a while due to a previous manager who made the experience... less than ideal. But after hearing they're under new ownership, we decided to give it another try -- and I'm really glad we did. Yes, they were definitely understaffed (it looked like there was only one server for the entire restaurant), so it took about 15 minutes just to get waters and close to an hour for a cocktail. The food has always been reliably good -- that hasn't changed -- but the standout of the night was Jeff, the new owner. He personally came over to check on us, made my drink himself upon learning I was still waiting and completely turned our experience around. Caring, personable, and clearly passionate about making this restaurant a stand out! The rolls alone are worth the visit -- seriously, don't skip them. The pizza is very good as are the stuffed shells! It's only been about three months since Jeff and his partner took over, and it's obvious they're working hard to get everything running smoothly. Updating my last review. This place keeps getting better and better. Tonight the band was amazing with a lead singer who could easily have filled in for Janice Joplin. My husband asked for a Swiss cheese pizza instead of mozzarella. They were out of Swiss cheese so they asked us if we were willing to wait a little while to order. Bernadette the new owner actually Instacart ordered cheese to make his pizza. Customer service like this deserves to be called out. Amazing!! Oh and there is a new menu. Prices are a little less.
